In my CD player, DVD player, VCR, CD burner:  nothing.

I have been out and about all day with my family because my aunt from California is visiting.  She will be leaving Monday morning, so Sunday will be her last full day.  Today, however, we went to see "Spider-Man 2" at Seattle's Cinerama Theatre.  It's pretty darned cool to see it on a HUGE screen.  It's a pretty good movie, fairly well written script, great special effects.  A woman that I work with walked out of it after 20 minutes, though!  The beginning of the movie is how down in the dumps (a Cole Porter reference) Peter is because he can't tell Mary Jane that he's Spider-Man.  He loses two jobs, Mary Jane won't have anything to do with him, his aunt is going to lose her house...it is a little too depressing.  The co-worker didn't like how depressing his life had become.  Anyway, things have to get worse before they get better, which they do, but he does discover himself at the end and he comes to terms with being Spiderman.  Very well handled, I think.

Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

Estate Sale today from
One o'clock till four.
You go and get ready.
I'll go start the car.

Better to be early, then we'll be the first in line.
You know how I love this, it's amazing what you'll find.

Going through dead people's houses
Wonderful things they have collected
Open the drawers and trunks and closets
Don't leave a corner uninspected.

I'll head for the kitchen - you check out upstairs
Old postcards 'n pens 'n blue fiesta ware
Shaving mugs 'n winged eyeglasses -
Giant plastic pins.
Linen suits and flowered dresses - I'm so glad we got in.

They just don't make 'em like this
It's an incredible prize
We can hang it in the kitchen
She was just your size
It's a beautiful frame
And the picture's all right
Salt and pepper airplanes
And that deco light.

Tonight we'll go home and sort through our array
We'll find the best spots to put things on display
You can't get this great stuff anymore, I don't know why
But I'll bet we make some young strangers happy when we die.

Going through dead people's houses
Wonderful things they have collected
Open the drawers and trunks and closets
Don't leave a corner uninspected......

Cheryl Wheeler....Circles & Arrows CD....  I love Cheryl, she is a kind of a mix of Buffy St Marie, the Roches, and Joni Mitchell....a folk heroine!

I just read the synopsis on the Cinerama website:

Having graduated high school, mild-mannered science student, part-time photojournalist, Peter Parker--also known as the occasional web-spinning superhero, Spider-Man--is now attending college at Empire State University. Two new villains, Dr. Octopus and the Lizard, set out to ensure his demise. Complications ensue on the romantic front.

I have no idea where this synopsis came from, but there is no "Lizard" in this movie at all!

I just read the synopsis on the Cinerama website:
Two new villains, Dr. Octopus and the Lizard, set out to ensure his demise.[/i]

Even though his evil alter-ego doesn't appear in the movie, one of Peter Parker's professors, Dr. Curt Connors, does show up.  He's doomed to become The Lizard.

By the way, the fellow Mary Jane Watson almost marries, the astronaut John Jameson, is doomed to become the Man-Wolf.

And of course, Harry Osbourne will become the Hobgoblin in the next movie.

How do I know all this stuff?  Because I'm a geek, that's how!

Robin, thanks for the info!  It also took me a while to realize that the astronaut was the newspaper editor's son.

After the movie ("Spider-Man 2") we all had lunch at Dick's Drive In.  We then walked to the Seattle Center and went up the Space Needle!  I hadn't been up there in so long...the last time I went, the gift shops were still on the observation deck!

Anyway, after that we went to Tower Records and I bought the CD archy and mehitabel:  a back-alley opera, with Carol Channing, Eddie Bracken and David Wayne, which includes "echoes of archy," as well as "carnival of the animals" with noel coward (all the titles on the CD are in lower case).  I also got the new recording, Fine and Dandy by Kay Swift and Paul James with Andrea Burns, Mario Cantone, Carolee Carmello, Gavin Creel and Mark Linn-Baker.  Those will be in my CD player this weekend!

...Peter Parker...is now attending college at Empire State University.

That may be what they call it in the movie, but that beautiful campus you see in the film, with its classic beaux arts design (by the firm of McKim, Mead & White), is none other than Columbia University.

Roar, Lions, roar.

George what day are you thinking of?  What are the hours of the Road Show?

The date of the Antiques Roadshow event is Saturday, August 21, 2004 but I don't know the hours.  When I signed up for the raffle to get free tickets, they asked if I had a preference for the morning or afternoon.  I chose either, thinking that it might give me a better chance.  I got the tickets, didn't I?  ;)  Anyway, I would assume that they stagger the entrance times so that they can have an even flow of people throughout the day.  The A.R. website says that one should arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before the entrance time on the ticket.  I'll post when I get the tickets and what time I'm supposed to be there.  I would think that we could meet in the evening.  I don't think they have the event go too late into the evening.

At least, I would hope that they don't go too late into the evening.
