DR MBarnum - As for those Tamari and Seaweed Rice Cakes...  Well, I guess know you know that Tamari is Japanese soy sauce.  -Which most definitely does not go with coffee.  However, maybe with some tuna salad...

Wow!  Thanks for the Depp/Todd photo, DR ELMORE.

I am very excited about this movie.  Well....excited and scared.

Excited and scared is right (I'm not a great fan of Johnny Depp ::)), but I really do want to see it. :)

BK, will you be dining at Musso and Franks with DR Musicguy and I on the evening of April 24th?

I will if someone reminds me.

I agree. Well, not that I've seen Ed Wood. I agree that he looks creepy. I have never seen a Johnny Depp movie. He must be a good actor, though. He seems to be busy.

For shame. No truely worthy parent allows their children to grow up without seeing Edward Scissorhands.

I really want another pastrami sandwich from Art's.  Haven't been able to rustle up anyone to lunch with, though, so I'll either forget it, or mosey on over there and eat by myself - bring a pad and do some work or maybe even bring Ye Olde Laptop.

If you've waited/put off/refused to buy the existing GREY GARDENS off-B'way cast recording, it's now on sale at PSClassics.com for just $4.95 plus 3.00 shipping.

On the other hand THE BLUE BIRD has always left a me feeling sort of icky...I just never cared for the movie...with the exception of the beautiful Helen Ericson as Light. My best friend in Jr. High and High School loved this movie, though. I may give it a try again and see if I like it any better...it does have an interesting cast...and I will be meeting little Sybil Jason when I go to L.A. in April.

Well, it's an allegory and thus a little thick for today's tastes. I've still always loved it.

And I just saw "little" Sybil Jason in another Shirley movie which I'll be talking about presently.

I just want that masterpiece of a score to SWEENEY TODD given the respect it deserves. I'm going to be heartbroken if it gets gutted like A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC was (and that was at the hands of Hal Prince of all people).

Johnny Depp doesn't always play weird. Try FINDING NEVERLAND. Not quite true to the real story, but a lovely and magical film in many ways.

I began my afternoon with the 1937 THE PRISONER OF ZENDA, one of the real classics of the golden age of moviemaking. Stupendous film in every way, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. never had a role that better rivaled what his father became famous for playing (well, his father usually played heroes while Jr.'s Rupert is a cad, but what charisma he showed in this!). Of course, ROnald Colman is perfection in the dual role.

But the DVD is a sad reflection of a truly great movie. I guess this is the best they could do with it, but it's grainy and filled with scratches and dirt throughout. The film must truly have been in terrible shape.

AMAZON is now selling:

One review:

Quote
Delivered by the bronzed descendants of Roman Gods (dressed as postal workers) my Tuscan Milk arrived! Upon opening the container, the heavens opened and the angels sang! It was really quite a nuisance. My house is now littered with unemployed Romans and angels that won't shut up. They drank all my Tuscan milk.

I finished my afternoon with another full length film - THE LITTLE PRINCESS with Shirley Temple. A beautiful mounting of the story and in glorious Technicolor. Once again, Fox has darkened the transfer a little too much for my taste, but the color is rich, rich, rich.

Thank you, Fox, for rescuing this film from public domain hell.

I am on the board of CINE (Council for Non-Theatrical Events), and have volunteered with them for about 20 years. They were formed during the Cold War to foster relationships with other countries by sharing our film and video with them and vice-versa, and getting award-winning films out to international festivals.

I am also on the board of the Atlanta chapter of Fight SMA (Spimal Muscular Atrophy).

I rarely volunteered for anything until I married Mr. Linton, who is an über-activist. Since we knew we wanted to stay in Marietta, most of our free time was taken up with trying to make the city a better place, since it was facing issues that challenged our quality of life dailiy.

We are founding members of:

The Loop Group, which succeed in combating crime and uniting the various ethnic/cultural groups in our neighborhood (which has now been virtually obliterated by developers.)
We do quarterly cleanups, and May Day and Christmas events and are now developing a community garden with those who are left in the neighborhood.

IMPACT: (Involved Mariettans Planning Actively for the City of Tomorrow) and Greg also served 3 terms as president and VP.

Cobb Preservation Foundation, which we formed with other members out of frustration because the local preservation group, Cobb Landmarks, was a social group that would not take an active role in preserving anything. We buy, fix up and resell historic properties and have been tremendously successful for such a small (@30) group. Cobb Landmarks has about 10 times as many members and we all belong to that group and volunteer with them as well.

Riverkeepers: we monitor streams for water quality monthly. Greg won the state's data colleciton award last year. He also helps another woman with her stream data collection. She is 80 years old!

Greg is on the board of the Cobb Land Trust, and we do clearing and maintain properties on work days.

Greg is President of Friends of Nesbitt Chapel, the ruins of a historic church that we have been trying to protect from development and convert into a learning center.

We also volunteer for
Taste of Marietta, and clean up after the ravenous hordes every year
Marietta Tree Keepers, planting trees about every other month.
Marietta Christmas Tour of Historic Homes

We also work behind the scenes to coach other neighborhoods in organizing and working productively to try to get their needs met when faced with development challenges.

Greg almost singlehandedly saved a local community theatre from going under, and volunteered his time with tech support on many of their productions.

Since we're moving, we are slowly trying to pull away from most of these groups and for the last year we've been volunteering with our new neighborhood group. But once we move, we are going to keep our activist side "in the closet" for awhile and spend our time living our lives. After being repeated  stomped on by the city, we're pretty jaded and will be happy just doing basic volunteering---clean-ups, etc.

Once we move and I have a plce to edit, my volunteerism will mainly consist of editing projects for others ---labors of love which have been piling up for some time now.

Whew! I'm tired just thinking about how much of that time was wasted by a city that didn't care about its residents.

I'm thinking tonight I'll watch POPPY, the next film in the W.C. Fields box. It's just a bit over 70 minutes so I should have plenty of time to watch it before IDOL comes on.

I refuse to do any dance in which I am instructed to "shake it all about."

I would think that that greatly limits you. Are you not, JRand, a dancer?
