I don't trust ANY of those blogs that are drooling over Sweeney Todd.  It reeks of something.  I do know one person who has seen the film, and he has said that while he enjoyed it the blood-letting is so graphic that he feels it's going to preclude the film from being anything other than a cult film.  Plus, the studio is so over-hyping it (especially in the last three months - as relentless as Dreamgirls), as if they're trying to shove this thing down people's throats and tell them they HAVE to love it.  I am looking forward to it, but Mr. Burton's track record in the last ten years doesn't give me a ton of hope.

I'm back from Farmer's Market and various and sundried travels, and will now watch a motion picture on DVD before I dine with the Jones's.

Ugh!  We're under a winter weather advisory, calling for snow/sleet turning to rain as the temps rise, until 10pm.  Just hope I can get home before the roads get slick.

It's nasty here. I haven't really been out, other than to break the ice off of the corn for the squirrels and the bird food, but we had a little snow, then sleet, then freezing rain and now I think maybe it's real rain then it's supposed to be freezing raing again later. The trees are starting to look pretty though and we haven't seen the 30-40 mph winds they were initially prediciting.

Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - all critical successes and, save Big Fish, all fan favorites.

I spent most of the afternoon working on the big room in the basement, where I now have the treadmill.  I arranged the bookcases, emptied all my boxes of books, unpacked the remaining boxes and threw out a bunch of stuff.  I discovered the cable tv works down there so I set up the little tv I had in my office in Spirit Lake and set up an old stereo.   There is still much to do in there, but it's actually starting to look like part of the living space and not just a repository of things that don't have any other place to be

I know there are those who've enjoyed Burton's more recent films - I'm not one of them.  I didn't care for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory much, really didn't like Sleepy Hollow, and didn't see the Fish movie.

Matt H, will going on line & voting for Life as the People’s Choice best new show help? http://www.nbc.com/Life

Any attention the show can get will surely not hurt it. Thanks for the address. I'll be voting as well.

I liked all three of those Burton films, BIG FISH being my least favorite of the three but still entertaining.

I began my afternoon of viewing with another MURDER SHE WROTE episode. This was the Nashville-set one with Florence Henderson as a Tammy Wynette-type singer and Jimmy Dean as her disenchanted husband. Gary Grubbs was also a guest star. Florence was not born to sing country but she does an entire song during the show. I think it must have been written just for this episode, but I didn't check the credits to see for sure.

Next, I watched the remaining 35-40 minutes of DR. NO. Always enjoyable, and with the new surround soundtracks, very involving.

Then, since it had been the talk of some of the messages earlier in the week, I watched THE WIZARD OF OZ. I hadn't seen it on the new TV. (It was the first movie I watched on my ;ast HDTV.) Looks wonderful, but the extra resolution brought out the natural film grain in the image which I guess my last TV had hidden.

I didn't seeCharlie and the chocolate Factry, but I liked Big fish quite a lot and I loved Sleepy Hollow, which I've seen many times. I left it hoping Tim Burton would give us a dark and gothic fim of BRIGADOON, and I think it was a good test for the SWEENEY TODD, which I am very much looking forward to seeing.

DR Elmore, you should see SLEEPY HOLLOW on Blu-ray. A really mind-blowing experience, as close to 3-D as can be found without any 3-D process. It was one of my first Blu-ray purchases.

Heading down now to do a few small chores and then to settle in with CLOSE ENCOUNTERS in Blu-ray. And then TORCHWOOD.

Question for Cillaliz:

You prevously stated your intention to support Richardson in the Iowa Caucus.

Current polling data shows:

Obama 27.2
Clinton 26.8
Edwards 22.6
Richardson 8.2

Considering that a vote for Richardson is probably "wasted", would you consider switching to one of the top three where your vote could make a difference?
