Good Evening!

Well, I'm back from rehearsal and another trip to Trader Joe's, and I'm also now caught up on the Notes and Posts, so...

In no particular order...

DR Jane - Ah, yes, Billy's Bakery.  -I believe I listed that on the Eating and Walking tour itinerary.  -And if we had walked up to Fred and Skip's from Chelsea Market, we would have passed Billy's Bakery on the way.

I forgot to mention that the opening credits for KISS KISS BANG BANG were as imaginative and fun as any credits I've seen in DECADES! They certainly set up the tone and pace of this frantic movie.

I liked the opening credits too. Glad you enjoyed the film.

DR Ginny - I may still be in the city that night in January.  Since we'll be in the middle of the run at that time, I won't have to head back until Tuesday morning/afternoon - just as long as I'm back for the Tuesday night show at 7:30.  I'll keep you posted.

Topic of Yesterday...

I had a bunch of places in Richmond that I secured on my own both while I was in school and after school.  Each of them had their "charming" qualities.  Of course, my favorite apartments were the two I shared with Steve.

Topic of Today...

I'll buck the trend and say that I'd like one of those spacious loft spaces in SoHo.  Complete with one of those freight type elevators.  Of course, it would also come with a great rooftop area/garden with views into Brooklyn and across the river in Jersey.  And the midtown skyline to the north.

A "winter" house in Syndey - well, two of them.  An apartment in the city, preferably with a great view of Syndey Harbor (the Opera House, Bridge, etc.).  And one along one of the canals (I think they were canals?).

A "standing" room in the Crowne in Melbourne.

And for good measure, a chateau in the Po Valley.

As for a car...  I've never really been into "nice cars".  As long as the vehicle runs, gets good mileage and has a working radio, I'm happy.  A friend of mine has one of those sporty Mercedes convertibles.  It's nice, but I'm still happy with my 1993 Ford Escort Wagon.  -Which is about to hit 220,000 miles!  *And it averaged 42mpg this past weekend on the trip up and back to and from New York City.

It appears that one of our actors is definitely set, and the other is almost definitely set (he's accepted the role, but his agent has some "questions").  I'm presuming the "questions" are ones of schedule, especially as pertains Christmas.  We'll know tomorrow, but I'm hoping it all works out early.

Hmm if money were no object. I think I'd still like my home base to be in the North Central part of the country.  Maybe a nice cozy home on a lake close to Minneapolis/St Paul or Chicago. I may even stay in Iowa. I really do love the people here.  I'd have a live in cat sitter for the times I traveled.

I don't think I'd want more than one house.  If money was no object I could stay in fabulous suites in different hotels whenever I traveled and all my stuff could be in one place.

Topic of the day:

If money were no object I would buy a brownstone in Park Slope Brooklyn.  Something with a garage or parking spot where I could park my hybrid car for use on the weekends.  I would love to be able to stay within a very close distance to Manhattan and have the luxury of a beautiful park and residential neighborhood.

And then a house in Spain.  I do believe my paternal grandfather's blonde hair and green eyes can be traced back to Spain (he was born in Mexico) and I think that a lovely home in Spain would be a nice way to get in touch with my heritage.  (And a nice way to escape the some of the problems I see with our culture and society...)

And finally, if money truly were no object, I would love to be able to take six months out of each year to travel around the world with Doctors Without Borders or some other like minded organization, providing therapy to families and children in need, doing community organizing, and HIV prevention work.

I love my 2005 Prius. Wouldn't want another car....well, maybe a Mini-Cooper. I could fit them both in the garage I have now!

I was going to say I'd get an apartment in New York on the Upper West Side overlooking Central Park, but I'd already have so many friends there, I wouldn't need one of my own!!!

Congrats BK, on having one of the actors set. Good vibes for tomorrow and hopes that the questions are easy ones to answer!

DR Michael Shayne - As others have mentioned...

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is good, not great.  I'd say see it via TKTS of TDF.  Not full price.  And Mark Kudisch is currently in See What I Wanna See down at the Public.  -I'd actually recommend that show to you.

In My Life - Just not worth it.  I saw it for free and I still felt sort of cheated.  As DRs Ben and Jason stated, it's bad, but it's not "Carrie bad".

Avenue Q- Highly recommended.  The ticket demand has died down a bit, so you may be able to snag a decent seat or two.  -Although, I understand that most shows have a pretty good advance for December - Happy Holidays!

Have you seen Spelling Bee?  The Color Purple?

DR MBarnum - Thank you for the card!  And the "liner notes".  They were waiting for me in my P.O. Box when I stopped by the post office last night after getting in from NYC.

Oh...

Of course, after I win the $317 Million (and growing) MegaMillions Lottery tonight, I will start looking at loft spaces and booking my standing reservation at the Crowne.

After doing my cleaning and some reading, I only had about a half hour before network TV began, so I took out THE SOUND OF MUSIC and put in THE KING AND I.

The color on this non-anamorphic transfeer is very nice, and when Fox redoes this next year with anamorphic enhancement, it should look really wonderful. It's acceptable now but not nearly as good as it could be.

My evening of TV started with BONES. As DR Danise said earlier, the show featured a guy with a cane. The mummification of a body was rather interesting but the list of suspects was pretty narrow for this episode. Not one of the series' best.

Next on my agenda was HOUSE which had an excellent episode with its usual medical mystery of the week but some really excellent comedy in the early sequences and some melodrama later with poor House who's nursing a lingering love for his ex-lover. Sela Ward is a terrific actress, and the two of them bantering back and forth is something to see.

And then LAW & ORDER: SVU featured the still handsome (more rugged now, less pretty boy) Dean Cain as a rapist manipulating the justice system to his own ends. The story lost focus three-fourths of the way through veering into the area of who has the right to decide pulling the plug on a brain dead patient: a husband of a week or a mother. And then, as usual, SVU provided a very neat surprising twist to the story. Love this show!

I will have tonight's SUPERNATURAL and MY NAME IS EARL/THE OFFICE to watch over the next few days.

I also recorded A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS off TCM which I haven't seen in years.

All of this plus sure-to-arrive DVDs tomorrow. (Of course, I was sure they'd arrive today, and they didn't.)

...During a break today, I happened to notice one of the schedule guides for the AFI Silver Cinema was left on the table on the green room.  In the next two months alone they will be having the following film series:

2005 EU FILM SHOWCASE
THE CINEMA OF LOUIS MALLE
ERNST LUBITSCH, PART 2
HOLIDAY CLASSICS
16TH WASHINGTON JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL
ERNEST LEHMAN REMEMBERED
THE JIM HENSON COMPANY
CinemAFRICA
CINEMA TROPICAL
MONTGOMERY COLLEGE SERIES
TALK CINEMA

I may try to make it to a few of the Louis Malle showings.  However, I'm most interested in catching "The Sound of Music" and "The King and I" on the big screen.  -Oh, and "A Muppet Christmas Carol" is part of their Holiday series!

:)

www.afi.com/silver

It's a very nice theatre complex, and, thankfully, the people that go to see films there, actually go to see the films.  Not talk on their cell phone or play catch up with their "neighbors" while the movie is running.

No. I found their collection to be very small. You can look for TV shows to watch...but the collection is not what I thought it would be....and looking up ALLISON HAYES I found....nothing!

Thank you. I guess I can look up a few names and see what they have. More interested in dates and production info than watching it.

Would the Lincoln Center Library have any references books for tv?
