That scene where she throws herself on the coffin at mama's funeral. High drama!

We were supposed to see LAD, A DOG at summer camp when I was 12, and they got the movies mixed up and showed us IMITATION OF LIFE by mistake.

You called it perfectly, DR ELmore. DR MBarnum does indeed look like Aldo Ray in his wonderful new avatar. COngrats, Mike.

Just booked the flight to L.A. for Dec. 8 - hoping Skip's HERRINGBONE schedule doesn't conflict, and even if it does, that there's no need for me to be in NYC when it's happening.

Yowza, that's some spiffy avatar, MBarnum.  Wanna come hang out by the pool at the Shearton Universal in December?  I'd bet you'd be a chick magnet, especially in Hollywood.  :) :)

I had no idea Juanita Moore was still alive. I really wish she had won the Oscar in 1959 instead of Shelley Winetrs since she never really had another shot at it, and SHelley had so many other chances (not always nominated for worthy work).

I do remember Juanita fondly from her brief work in the Rosalind Russell film ROSIE.

I put in the FRIENDS Season 8 DVDs this evening and watched several episodes. Of course, the Thanksgiving episode with Brad Pitt is one of my all-time favorites.

I am only sad that Carla Fiore was kicked out BEFORE this all started...

Carly was a featured interview on 60 Minutes tonight.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES

was the best it's been thus far this season with really interesting stories involving so many of the characters. Still can't stand Nora, even if she did give Lynette a helpful tip about her hubby. She is just so annoying that she ruins the show the SECOND she appears on the scene.

Loved seeing the gorgeous Jesse Metcalf again, even if it was just for one episode. And glad to see Andrew back home.

Really enjoyed BROTHERS & SISTERS the most since it's been on the air, too. The characters and their intricate relationships with each other are really addictive, and I'm invested in their stories now.

An unofficial BD Wong site mentions the possibility that Skip's show HERRINGBONE may play the Zipper Theater starring BD under Roger Rees' direction - didn't know any of this was public info yet, but since it's on the BD Wong site, I figured you guys should at least be the second to know.  (You need to scroll down a little.)

I traveled down to Costco today to get the pictures removed from my memory card and put onto a CD,  Since there were 432 pictures on my card I was afraid of overloading the computer by downloading there.

(Be not afeared dear readers, I will not post all 438 only a selected  few... if I can get it to work at all that is!)

Looks like COLD CASE and the other CBS lineup of shows started pretty much on time. I set the DVR for thirty extra minutes just in case.

I just saw a wonderful movie I highly recommend: THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE. Available on Criterion.

http://www.criterionco.com/asp/release.asp?id=351

A Spanish film from 1973 that I'd never heard of, even though in a number of articles I read after seeing it, it's called an iconic work of the Spanish cinema.

Harharhar! Good one!

That scene where Juanita Moore comes to the strip club and the other dancers tease Sara about having a mammy and Juanita plays along so she doesn't blow her cover...it always makes me cry!

BK, you wrote: "For someone who considers himself a major director, Mr. Hyams filmography is mostly loaded with really bad movies".

I worked as an editor on a movie directed by his sister, Nessa. Her directing style involved lots of master scenes. To quote her: "If I give you coverage, you're only going to use it!" As a result, we lacked the ability to perk up any of these scenes, which probably seemed funny in person but were deadly on screen. It was one of the worst films I've ever worked on, so perhaps this is a genetic condition!

I remember loving "Lad, A Dog", too. Any movies with dogs were fine by me. I never guessed at the time that I would turn into a cat person. I was afraid of them when I was young...
