Title: THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Post by: bk on March 27, 2018, 12:04:00 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a public service announcement, and now it is time for you to post until the public cows come home.

I sent an e-mail over an hour ago that we would go live at midnight - no one looked at it, so now he has to go scramble and get it up - unbelievable.  Should be live in ten minutes or so.  Thankfully I didn't send the Constant Contact blast or put it on Facebook so whew.

The birthday event was a lot of fun: nice dinner, a lot of gossip and dish, and a lotta laughs.  I got home around 10:30 to two angry kitties wanting a bedtime snack.  By the time I fed them, did my eye drops and got ready for bed, it was 11:30.

This morning I will leave for the East side around 9:30.  I have a visual test for my eye doctor at 10:30.  When that's over, I will head to my pharmacy, pick up my monthly meds, and head back here for more Me & My Girl work.

I always looked forward to the SPECIALS.....but often times I didn't watch more than thirty minutes or so, because they were.....not so hot or SPECIAL.

There were exceptions:

Peter Pan with Mary Martin, although I never understood why that OLD woman was playing a young boy and why he was looking for his shadow when it was behind him on the wall since he came into the room.....

Carol and Julie at Carnegie Hall

Once Upon a Mattress - though NOT an original television musical

I am enjoying the lists others are posting and remember some of them.

DR Jennifer are your studded tires metal or rubber?  There are states here where snow tires are illegal because the are hard on the roads.  I have only lived in one of those states yet Oregon is the only place we used them because of living in the country.

Our last couple of winters in Ashland we decided to skip the tires and stay home if there was too much snow on our road.  Once off of it we really didn't need them.

I am not an expert on tires. But I don't believe people use studded metal tires. I think the winter mandatory tires are rubber.

Can it really be Tuesday already?

Honestly!

Yesterday was an odd day.  Do not expect an explanation of it.  It was just odd.  It involved a drive to a shoe shop in not-so-nearby Batesburg where my mother took two pairs of favorite shoes to have new heels put on them.

From there, we detoured a bit to visit the local Bi-Lo. My mom pushed a cart while I whizzed around with a hand basket.  Between us, we amassed about $17 worth of necessities.

Then, we went to Cone's Meat Market in Ridge Spring (on the way back from Batesburg).  I bought ground beef and ground sausage for a batch of spaghetti sauce I plan to make tomorrow.  I also picked up a pound of country ribs and six center loin pork chops, all of which is now in our freezer.

The evening was nothing remarkable, either. We had Belgian waffles and sausage for dinner.  Very tasty.

Today is also unremarkable, thus far.

I have picked up mail, stopped at Gary's for burgers, fries and fried okra, and my mother and I dined on all of that.

Then I ordered a couple of "specialty" CDs.

And here I now am.  Amazed at nothing, but shocked at the ludicrous GOP reactions to the massive march of young people this past weekend.

I believe Stormy Daniels. I also believe she didn't have to do anything she didn't want to do.  BUT...there is a not-so-fine line between two consenting adults and payoffs and bodily threats if she didn't remain silent.

We have a thug in our White House, but we have no leadership at all.

Jane, as far as DECEPTION is concerned, each of the episodes is basically a stand-alone episode, but there is a back story running thru the entire series.  If you decide to watch it now, I can easily tell you about the back story.  It all took place in the first ten minutes of episode one.

Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068361/reference) is one of the two Buñuel movies that Stephen Sondheim and David Ives' new musical will be based on.  The other is The Exterminating Angel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056732/reference).  I need to watch both of them.  I did buy them, but haven't watched either, yet. ::)

I wised up to having snow tires late in life, around ten or twelve years ago, and around here they're the best thing ever.  I'm surprised more of my friends don't indulge, but they do make a difference.  I'm pretty good about going easy on them, so my first set of snows lasted me something like eight seasons.  I've got two seasons, so far, on the second set.

I don't think metal studs are allowed here.  What I remember from L.A. is that people driving up into the mountains (e.g. Big Bear and Arrowhead) in winter were *required* to put chains on their tires starting at a given elevation.  I never had them (and they always seemed like they'd be a nightmare to put on), though I did have them put on the snowblower.

I, too, had an eye exam today. I had a mad hatter's ride through Beverly Hills on Uber, then a long wait to see the ophthalmologist. She confirmed what I'd already been told.

Call me difficult, but I DON'T LIKE all the poking and prodding and having very bright lights in my eyes. Enough! I'm having medical/dental procedure fatigue!

Jane must be reading a book.

Unfortunately not.  We went to the dentist to have our teeth x-rayed and cleaned.

We then stopped on the way home for a short walk.  Too short but fortunately I walked to the market this morning.  If I do a little march around our condo I will reach 20,000 steps.

After our short walk we went to Beaches to eat.  The owners of the restaurant do a lot of charity activities.  Today 50% of our meal went to the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools.  That 50% included alcohol.  Those drinks felt good on our teeth after the cleaning.

I don't like eye exams either.  Figuring out which slide I see best with is extremely difficult.

I am TOTALLY ready for an eye exam.  My last was a year and a half ago, and I know I'm well on my way toward requiring the ever popular cataract surgery.  My favorite optometrist just retired, so I have to do a little doctor research.

Last week and the week before, one of my staff had cataracts removed from both of his eyes.  He HATED having to be awake and see everything coming towards his eyeballs. :P I have the beginnings of cataracts, but fortunately they won't need any intervention anytime soon.

That's good. I was told $8-9K/eye, but prices vary quite a bit, I think.

:o I had no idea it would cost that much.  We have a vision plan here at work, but I don't (yet) know how much is covered for cataracts. :-\

That's pretty cool about the donating!  I'd go there all the time (assuming I liked their food ;) ).

Well, they only do it on special occasions, highlighting a different charity.   Sometimes when we have out of town guests we reserve the special charity booth for $10.00.  At least we try cuz on a buy summer night it is often booked.

If you come down here for dinner we will go to Beaches.

The first time we went to Beaches our realtor took us for lunch.  During the 6 weeks of staying in hotels before moving in to our condo we often went there to eat, usually lunch.  Most times we had the same waitress.  Since we go early we see her as she is wrapping up her day shift.

Today she showed us the photos of her recent volunteer work at Best Friends Sanctuary.  We knew she loved dogs but not that she volunteers at a local shelter or would go to Best Friends.

We had a come to Jesus meeting at work today, and you know what? It was rather laughable. The newcomers don't want their supervisors to direct them or tell them that they don't understand they aren't doing the job properly. They don't want guidance and they don't want input and they don't see what the problem is.

I pity the new director that comes in.
