Did DR JOSE ever get into town?  Last I heard, he was descending.

DR JRand - Yes, I did. I did!

After I landed and deplaned, I headed right for the taxi stand at LGA, and head back into Manhattan. During my trip, I got a call from the casting director. Uh-oh! Did I write down the wrong time for the auditions? He was calling to confirm me for the afternoon session, which, as it turned out started at 2:00 instead of 1:30. Yeah! That extra half hour made all the difference.

I was able to drop my bags off at the apartment. I was able to pick up my mail - which included some very important papers. I was able to have some lunch too. In short, I was able not to rush to get to the auditions.

...And the auditions went very well.

I played for a bunch of old friends.

I played for some people I've admired for years.

-And there were a bunch of bk-related folks too.

And it was great seeing the team from Arena Stage again too.

And since I have another full day of auditions tomorrow, well...

I am home from Encores! The production is quite wonderful. the cast is excellent, the use of projections and films helps with the transitions and locales, the orchestra sounds great, this is probably the best possible production of this piece, and I still think the show is second rate.There are some wonderful moments, i think the addition of Franklin Shepherd, Jr in Act Two is a good touch, but Act One left me cold. I admired it and lked some of the score. Then, in Act Two, Celia Keenan Bolger, who is quite wonderful, joined in on a trio of "Not A Day Goes By" with the man she loves and pretty blonde he's marrying and it hit home hard; by the time "Our time" began I was a blubbering mess.

I think the production will be a huge success for Encores! and I wish it well.

I blubber whenever I heard Mary sing "Like It Was," but I think it's George Furth's characters that leave me cold about that show. I hate them at the beginning and can't warm up to their story as it regresses. Only the music does it for me.

Thank for the "Merrily" report, Larry. I always have tears rolling down my face during several of the musical numbers.

"Bobby and Jackie and Jack" is one of my favorites--was it performed well this evening?
That one makes me laugh and cry---such promise, followed by such tragedy.

Well, I'm off.  I'm ushering for the tour of Young Frankenstein that's at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts!  It's going to be great!!

It's later!  Tonight, I ushered for the touring production of Young Frankenstein and it (still) was quite a fun show!  The main leads all looked and sounded very much like the original cast, but they still were great performers in their own right. 

I was told that they only sold half the house and about the same for tomorrow night...and that they're going to lose money on this.  Not enough tickets were sold for the two performances. But the people who saw it tonight really enjoyed it.
