I also thought the idea of chicken and waffles sounded odd.

I still do. :-X

Well, I got the last of the Mel Brooks movies watched: ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS. It has a simply wonderful cast but all doing such tired, rehashed material (Mel even resorts to repeating his "It's good to be the king" joke here) that it's just not much fun. Of course, Cary Elwes is ALWAYS a pleasure to watch, and Roger Rees plays silly-evil wonderfully well. Not quite sure what Richard Lewis is doing in the movie, and the great Tracey Ullman is completely wasted. Dom DeLuise channeling Brando's Godfather is hilarious, even if the character makes no sense in a Robin Hood movie.

Not a great number of special features either, but I watched them all and listened to most of Brooks' commentary (carried over from the laserdisc). Nice transfer.

I did have time to watch one program for fun, last night's 30 ROCK which featured Cheyenne Jackson doing some beautiful singing and some lousy singing (on purpose). Pretty fun. The scenes he wasn't a part of weren't all that interesting (though it was nice seeing Julianne Moore doing a Boston accent and playing comfortably with Alec Baldwin.)

I did get some of my packages in today's mail (expecting plenty more tomorrow), and I got one review disc, too: the Criterion Blu-ray release of 8 1/2. It doesn't come out until January 12th, so I think I can safely take a day off tomorrow.

Back from PENELOPE. I don't think Faure was a very good opera composer and, while I believe some pieces that fall from favor need to be re-examined, I don't think this is one of them. I spent most of the time admiring the orchestration but i really disliked the scenery, costumes and direction. Makes me want to reread the Odyssey, though, and see the old Kirk Douglas film ULYSSES, which I loved as a kid. Kirk Douglas, because of this film and 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, was my idea at the age of 10 of what a movie hero should be.

So, time for some gin and tonic. Mikey, call BK, you oaf!

Tonight I went to a Christmas pageant. It was a very cheesy musical done by very enthusiastic children. The kids I went to see were thrilled we came. Well, thrilled my son came.

I am ticked off at the local cable company.  I'm trying to get cable in my new office because they are far cheaper than dish or directtv for the basic waiting room channels.  They keep saying someone will get back to me and no one has.  Today I found out the last time they installed cable in our building the installers broke a water pipe and caused a lot of damage.  So, I'm afraid that they don't want to come because of the building I'm in. I'm going to go down there and find out what's going on.  I'll do Dish if I have to, I have been told I can put it ont the roof of the building, but it's more expensive....oh bother

I should say I've contacted them three times and talked to a human each time who told me someone would be getting back to me right away.   The last time I called was almost 2 weeks ago!

Elmore, the Douglas ULYSSES is out on a pretty decent looking DVD.  I can't remember if I reviewed it for HTF or DVDTalk, but I remember reviewing it.  ;)

Yes that was Jeff Harnar.

And yes it was a wonderful evening of cabaret.

Jeff performed his Sammy Cahn show.

He is one of my favorite singers. He loves what he does and it shows. I can watch him again and again.

Afterward Alex Ryback got together.

We caught up on what was happening in our lives and talk about other people we knew from Roberta Peters to Davis Gaines. A most enjoyable night.
