I am of course not speaking about Mr Hoffman, personally - could not do that having never MET the man.  Thank you for the information, DR ELMORE.

Good morning, all!  I wondered at all the posts and I should have known it was DR Jose waxing enthusiasic about sausage.  My first suspicion was that DR DakotaCelt had gone off the deep end over Matt Ashford.

Yep, I'm thinking right now about dragging out THE MUSIC MAN on DVD.  Tonight, as a part ofd her Christmas gift, I'm taking goddaughter Charlotte to THE FANTASTICKS, a show she's never seen.  when it colsed at the Sullivan Street Theatre, she gave her dad hell for never taking her to see it, so tonight's the big night.  I am looking forward to it for two reasons: spending time with her before she vanishes next year to college and every time I see THE FANTASTICKS, I'm eighteen again.

DR JRand56, I'm sorry about your Dustin Hoffman feelings; I've always liked him as an actor, and in the several times I've actually been in his company - once in Drama Book Shop, several times when he was rehearsing DEATH OF A SALESMAN, and I helped his production company with his research on MERCHANT OF VENICE - I've found to be intensely shy, intensely kind, very charming, and sly.  The cold, unemotional Peter Hall production of MERCHANT also featured Twiggy's husband Leigh Lawson, Nathaniel Parker, Michael Siberry and Ben Browder, and I thought Dustin was quite wonderful.  Someday, I hope I'll get a chance to tell you in person about the behavior of the various and sundry people involved in the DEATH OF A SALESMAN revival.

I'm all ears about anything you have to share on Ben Browder.

Wait...no....my brain is shutting down from lack of sleep.

Well...what the heck!  It doesn't seem to bother others who post all early a.m. and then into the regular day.

Or does it?

DR Elmore - I hope you and Charlotte have a delightful time today!

DR Ginny, whoever would have guessed in the 1970s that THE FANTASTICKS and its creators would figure so heavily in my future life?  I am certain there's a profound comment to that effect in THE MUSIC MAN, so I can write off the viewing today as a research item.

I've nothing but good comments about everyone I've met on that production of THE MERCHANT OF VENUS (oh, that's the Allison Hayes version!).  I did not, however, like much of the production, from the music to the unpassionate direction, and I find the comedy (?) a very passionate play.

LOL DR ELMORE.

Allison always said she wanted to tackle George Bernard Shaw's St Joan onstage...and I am sure there would have been an audience for that!

When I saw Act Two of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, I kept thinking of this scene in THE FANTASTICKS.  8)
