This afternoon I shall be seeing "Dream Girls". I've only ever played the OBC recording a few times! The only songs I can remember are "That one!!!!!","Steppin' to The Bad Side" and "One Night Only".

My supper is preparing itself right now.

A potato is baking in my toaster overn.

A N.Y. strip is relaxing in a bath of olive oil, pepper and kosher salt until it attains room temperature.

I may or may not prepare a vegetable.

Hmm... If you sprinkle some powdered, dried porcini mushrooms on it, you could have a Bistecca a la Fiorentina.  And if you haven't selected a vegetable, if you have some broccoli rabe...

I have some dried porcini mushrooms.

I have some frozen broccoli pieces...

How odd to think it's Monday afternoon in Australia.

It's barely Sunday evening here (pst).

Jose, would they have a pianist at this beginning stage of auditions?

Hopefully some of those vegetables met up with some complementary other vegetables...plus some herbs and such...and turned out to be nice souffles.

Ron, a few months ago that was the subject of one day's posting - the fact that I felt 1962 was the equal if not the better than 1939.  And if you search it, you'll see those lists, which are incredible - as a year of great cinema, it really is hard to top 1962.

Of course, the play is different...but when you play a train conductor ("River City...next station stop River City") and a townsperson ("Trouble, Trouble, Trouble")("Shipoopi, Shipoopi, Shipoopi") ya don't need to know more than the lyrics.

Hmm... I've never really thought there was much of a difference between the stage original and movie versions of The Music Man.  Different, yes, but not divergently so.  Or something like that.

-Maybe I should have taken a nap too.  ;)

You're right.  Not more than a tweak or two, IIRC.

YES!

-Like they did for the casting calls that I played for for the other roles a couple of months ago.

*Although, I seriously doubt that most of these people would have sheet music to bring in for their auditions.  In the proper key.  In a binder.  Etc., etc., etc.

I remember that!  I knew I had seen it discussed somewhere.

I also recall a separate discussion on another forum about 1962 as a year of phenomenal film scores.

We watched "Random Hearts" last night.  I wonder if the source material was a bad as the screenplay.
Why the "stars" bothered is beyond me.

I was rearranging some stacks of stuff today when it suddenly smacked me in the face that I've got major "catch-up" problems in the DVD department.

I have so many DVDs I've simply NOT watched yet.

I confess I have never heard a song by "Beyoncé" or for that matter by "Pink".  There's seem to be a world out there that I have not found time to discover!

Alas, even at some of the "big Broadway" auditions I've played, there are still plenty of "less than ideal" candidates.  And the bigger they are, the bigger they crash and burn.  Alas, some of them don't know that they crash and burn.  Time after time.  After time.  :-\

I am feeling the urge to do some writing right now. I have not done any fun writing in a while and I think I am going to go and take advantage of it. I  will be back a bit later.

Also I want to watch a movie that has been lying patiently on my DVD player to be watched: Best years of our Lives.

I'll readily admit this one can put me into a deep snooze in my rocker any time it plays.

I could not tell you the name of a single song that Beyonce may be known for.

On the other hand, you may well recall that year at the Oscars when she sang most of the nominated songs...and made them all sound as wretched as they pretty much were, IMO.

That was as bad a move on the Academy producer's part as the nonsensical presentation of music from the Oscar-nominated scores that Debbie Allen choreographed for tap dancers the year that "Schindler's List" won.

Hmm... Watching "You're The One That I Want", I'm reminded of some advice a friend of mine who is a high school theatre teacher gives to her students on the first day of class:

Life is a Drama,
But don't make Drama your Life.

GOD!!

BK - You HAVE to watch the final two minutes of "You're The One That I Want".  (The previews for next week's episode - which covers the New York auditions.)  *Although, it could already be old news to/for you.

So, is this anything like a real audition?

For a reality-TV talent show... Yes (unfortunately).

For a real theatrical audition... No.  -And most definitely not a real, Equity audition.  Just too many things not "up to snuff".  I know some people who went to the calls, and the waivers they had to sign if they were a member of a entertainment union (AEA, AFTRA, SAG, etc.) were quite extensive.
