Independence Day greetings!  I slept quite late today - 10:45am - and have decided that I'm sicker than I've been willing to admit for the past week.  We were planning to visit the mothers and my aunt, but this cough of mine does not belong in a retirement community.

...
I repeat my Ask DR question from last night:  anyone with any good downtown San Francisco hotels to recommend?  It's been so long since I was there I have no idea of what's downtown anymore.  And of course when I used to go there with my father the General, we always stayed at the Presidio anyway.
...

DR JMK - my last visit to SF was for the ALA conference in 1997.  I stayed at the Handlery Union Square and had a very pleasant experience.  They advertise a Family Getaway package on their website.

We've only driven through San Francisco (and it was always foggy) and never stopped overnight, so I can't give a recommendation for a hotel. Besides, we usually stay in Motel 6, anyway.

Does any DR make a habit of watching 1776 every July 4th?

DR Singdaw - our family tradition is to watch Independence Day.

DR Jose, I think you're so talented that you don't need any vibes at all, but because you're such a dear friend,

And now to the market!

We are about to have a thunderstorm, so I'm going to disconnect.

Bye for now!

so, for ask bk day:

bk, did you have a real-life car accident, such as happened to teen-aged Benjamin Kritzer in the third installment of the trilogy?

Ask dear reader Jane  ;D

Yes, the accident described was based on a real incident.  I've had a couple of other potentially horrible accidents that I've luckily (knocking wood) walked away from.

Singdaw, darling, if you enjoyed the Kritzer books, why don't you do a leetle review for each on amazon?

I have not seen the DVDs (I remember them fondly), but I'm guessing DR MBarnum might have some of them. He seems to love the old TV of the 1950s. Are the available ones from Critic's Choice? Their DVDs are usually pretty bad looking, but often, that's all that's available.

Yes, I believe they are from Critic's Choice.

Thanks, Matt. Let's see if Mike (or anyone else) responds.

ASK BK DAY!

Could you remind us of the full list (as it stands) for the November fundraiser; and the price of tickets to attend?

Thus far we have Jason Graae, Brent Barrett, Bruce Vilanch, Emily Skinner (who may have to drop out should Witches of Eastwick come right in to B'way, which they're now pondering), Alice Ripley, Michelle Nicastro, Ken Page, Alet Taylor - I think that's it - next week I have to add at least ten more.

Right now, tix are $50 (could go up by 5), with student balcony tix at 20, and Gold Circle Premium Seating (four front and center rows) at $250.  I've already said that if necessary I'll make sure any visiting hainsies/kimlets can have orchestra seating for 20.

TCB and any people doing casting - That avatar really is not a flattering picture of Jason as he looks today; I hope that's not his head shot.

Welcome sixteen GUESTS.  Come on in, the fireworks are fine.  You can ask questions, too, since it's the day to do that.

I'll be watching one of the Cult Classics this afternoon; just haven't decided which one yet. I'm debating between CAGED, THE PRODIGAL, and SKYJACKED.

Last night I watched THE PRODIGAL.
James Mitchell was sexy.

I feel like Hell today.  I have a terrible sore throat.  Probably too many hours sitting on the tarmac the other night.  I am supposed to attend a July 4th party, but I think I will call and offer my regrets (what they will do with my regrets is anyone's guess).

BK, what a great line-up so far.  The fundraiser in November 7?

TCB - I'm really not talking about anyone specific for any specific project, seriously.  Just who knows who's lurking at this site and if someone sees the photo, they might peg Jason purely a character man when he can also do leading men at this point.  (Cold sore notwithstanding, of course.  :) )
