This morning I looked up onto the top of the saguaro cactus, and this is what I saw:

White-winged dove

Gila woodpecker

The tiny white flecks are gnats of some kind, I assume.

Does anyone know if there was an American recording of "Everygood Boy Deserves Favour"? I was one my way home and I started listening in the car to what turns out to be an all classical NPR station. I tried to get it on my home radio and online but was not able to get it. So I was courious what I was listening to. I thought that it might be EGBDF by Stoppard but I'm not sure.

Thanks

This is not a good photo -- but I thought the egret coming in for a landing was fun:

Also NOT a good picture, but my subject was a long ways away, and blended in with the mud on the mudflat:

This is what he will look like when he grows up:

I know I expect criticism for this, but I prefer the Laurence Olivier-Greer Garson version of "Pride and Prejudice." I saw it as a kid and laughed all the way through. Dame Edna Oliver, what's-her-name Inescourt and the rest of the cast are hilarious. Because of that, and despite its flaws, it will always be a favorite of mine.

I think I need to see this again sometime.

Frieda Inescourt....created the role of Sorel Bliss in Noel Coward's HAY FEVER.

I also liked her in THE LETTER as the hostess of the last party Lesley Crosbie ever attends.

And of course she ended up in THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE in support of .... Beverly Garland.

She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1932 but kept working until the mid 1960's....often with a cane and then a wheelchair.

Oh yes!  I am sorry I thought I wrote about it!

Most entertaining and it looks very dangerous.

What the HELL did Dolores Gray think she was going to do in that number?

She took whip lessons. But I don't think she had any chance of being effective in that.

Michael, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "American recording," but I have the U.S. release of the OLC (with Ian McKellen) on an old RCA LP.

Just got word that an old associate at the newspaper I worked at in Florida died. Rich Brooks had had Lou Gehrig's disease for more than a decade, and he chronicled his life and living with the disease for as long as he was able. In recent years, the rare column was written with a mouth-activated computer.

He was a brave man who faced his disease with humor and as much vitality as he could muster. He and his wife continued to raise their children throughout this, and I'm sure that his work helped others dealing with something so daunting in their lives.

Thank you. I'm also, in a way, relieved to know that he is at rest.
