TNT won't pull reruns starring Thompson
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2003863480_campdig01.html

I don't think that'll be the last word on the subject! TNT will have the networks allied against them with the FCC. Indeed, this could add fuel to the push to put Cable under stricter FCC rules.

I understand the reasoning, yet it really doesn't seem fair the stations can't air their shows  because the guy is now running for president.   But then in a rational world his acting career t wouldn't make a difference politically.  You vote for the person because you like their political views, not because you liked the character they played.  I'm sure that is how everyone chooses their candidate, despite their looks, political party, etc.

And on occasion -- especially when things get gassy --  an editorial comment.

Hummm.... I think you're confusing this with a "coussin péteur" which does not make the same... statement!

The first one is silent; from the Silent Majority, I guess! ;)

I understand the reasoning, yet it really doesn't seem fair the stations can't air their shows  because the guy is now running for president.

The real issue is whether or not the government can require broadcast TV stations to pull re-runs and not cable. The Feds have relied upon the "public airwaves" theory to justify their control over broadcast television. However, many (mainly conservatives) would jump at the chance to pull cable under the same rules as broadcast using a "public policy" justification.

Note: The Conservatives want Fed fairness controls over TV (where the liberals hold sway) but reisist the same control over radio (where the conservatives hold sway).

My view: I think requiring the pulling of re-runs of dramatic shows under a fair-time argument is silly. That said, I do think that whatever re-run rules are applied to NBC should be equally applied to TNT (I do, however, support stricter censorship rules for broadcast TV).

You vote for the person because you like their political views...
Not necessarily!

Analyzing the electorate gets a bit tricky.

In the last Presidential Election many votes were cast "against" a candidate rather than "for" another. (I voted to deny Kerry the White House, and the only way to do this was to vote for Bush.) In 1996, I wanted to deny Clinton another term, but by the time I got to the polls (I delayed on purpose) the election was already over, so I voted for Perot as a protest (I didn't really like either Clinton or Dole). It was interesting watching all the analysts dissect the Reform party vote looking for the policy reasons people voted that way. The political pros even split over whether the Reform Party registrants should be classified as "left-leaning" or "right leaning" - a critical issue for those of us directing direct-mail political campaigns.

der Brucer

And for what it's worth, come 08, I would vote for Clinton to deny the Oval Office to Sam Brownback or Mitt Romney

DB, Sad but true.  It has been a long time since I have voted for a candidate because I liked the person instead of simply voting against the other candidate.

TEXAS SOCK-PUPPETS?

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Quote
Texas Woman Claims to Have Found Mythical 'Chupacabra'
CUERO, Texas —

Phylis Canion lived in Africa for four years. She's been a hunter all her life and has the mounted heads of a zebra and other exotic animals in her house to prove it. But the roadkill she found last month outside her ranch was a new one even for her, worth putting in a freezer hidden from curious onlookers: Canion believes she may have the head of the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra.

"It is one ugly creature," Canion said, holding the head of the mammal, which has big ears, large fanged teeth and grayish-blue, mostly hairless skin.

Canion and some of her neighbors discovered the 40-pound bodies of three of the animals over four days in July outside her ranch in Cuero, 80 miles southeast of San Antonio. Canion said she saved the head of the one she found so she can get to get to the bottom of its ancestry through DNA testing and then mount it for posterity.
