Hello, everyone. I understand that some people have been asking about me so I'll just drop by and say hi. A friend from California was visiting last week, plus I've got waaayyy too much to do. I had a bit of damage from some high winds last week, so Marvelous Matt will be coming by to take care of that. I finished Maeve Binchy's CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. Nice book.

I'll try to visit regularly again if and when I get caught up. Oh, yes, here come the bitch-slaps!

Do you get an Oscar ballot?  And do you vote?

I'm not an Academy member, so, nope.

I'm up, I'm up.  Rained earlier and a fella with an umbrella just walked by so maybe it's still drizzling.

As mentioned in the notes, eBay has been incredible in terms of finding rarities, but certain categories are now just impossible because dealers will not allow anything to go for a bargain price.  When certain collecter/dealers found out what illustration art was going for on eBay they swarmed in and irrevocably ruined it for everyone, and that ruination, despite their having left long ago, continues to this day.

I used to sell on eBay regularly at the beginning and did very well, but ultimately eBay got very greedy and their fees were so much for the pricier items that I just stopped and haven't sold anything on eBay for years.  All these Oscar promos I've been getting rid of would have done much better on eBay, but I just can't do it.

Speaking of selling, I have a bunch of duplicate books I'm thinking about selling - so I'll list them here in case someone is interested in something.  They'll all be reasonable and there are some titles that some folks might want.

In other news, after taking a glance at my calendar for the next couple of days, I realized that today would be a good day to get some laundry done.  So, I've sorted my whites, light colors, and dark colors, and the machine is currently agitating upstairs.

No Way To Treat A Lady by Harry Longbaugh - a very rare paperback original (Gold Medal) which became the film starring Rod Steiger, George Segal and Lee Remick.  Harry Longbaugh was, of course, the pseudonym for author William Goldman, who would go on to write Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - and the Sundance Kid's real name was, of course, Harry Longbaugh.  This copy is very nice, with just a slight spine lean its only real problem

The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe - Jane Wagner.  Lily Tomlin's amazing one-person show.  Hardcover that had many, many printings.  This is a first edition in mint condition.

Punchline to a washing machine joke from the 1960's:

Because it has a black agitator.

Yes, and the interesting thing is the UK and US releases contain different items (some overlap, too), which has some people in an uproar.

Especially since two of the plays in the non-USA set are her MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and CYMBELINE from the complete BBC Shakespeare series that have never been available as individual titles in the USA.  I think it's criminal the entire set and individual plays have been available in Region-2, but only a few titles are available in the USA and only in sets of titles.

And, of course, EBay is where I found MANY of my BK-produced CDs from years gone by...!

And where I purchase most of the promo copies I hand out.

Not yet.  Not enough time in the day.  I'm still battling bedbugs and a buggy neighbor, Miss Jaymie in 3E.  No sign of her fireman friends yet.  Hmmmm . . .

No, this one is a Stephen King story starring Anthony Hopkins with a Mychael Danna score.

I believe Warner Brothers released it.  Castle Rock produced.

More:

The Lady From Dubuque - Edward Albee First Edition Nice copy, save for some fading on the spine and a small hole-sized tear at the very bottom of the rear dust jacket panel.

Tenderloin - a First Edition of this musical by Bock and Harnick, published by Random House.  A beautiful copy save for some minor smudging - rarely seen in this kind of condition.

Promises, Promises - second printing, perfect copy except the price is neatly clipped, and there's a read remainder slash on the bottom page edges (visible only if you hold the book up and look at the bottom while it's closed).

A Death In The Family - James Agee.  An almost impossible book to find in decent collector condition.  The jacket was very cheaply produced and is always ratty and torn.  This copy has no tears or chips to the jacket, but the very top right of the front panel has some wrinkling.  There is a former owner's signature on the front free endpaper, otherwise a really nice copy of a book that keeps going up in value.  The original price (3.95) is present, and this has all the correct first state points (later state of the first edition has the title page in black - here it is blue).

Paul McCartney - Poems and Lyrics 1965-1999  The true UK first edition of this book, which became a collectible within a week of its being released.  A perfect as new copy.

The Underground Man - Ross Macdonald.  Not a rare book, but never ever seen in this condition.  Virtually perfect in every way - the jacket is Very Fine and looks new (no typical fading to the spine, and the book itself looks unread.  Macdonald is my favorite writer of private eye fiction.

Jasper Fforde - The Eyre Affair - Fforde's critically acclaimed first book, here in its true UK first edition.  As new in jacket, a book that goes up in value every year and with every new book Fforde writes.

The Tenth Man - Paddy Chayefsky.  First Edition play.  The book itself is in very nice condition - the jacket is complete but looks a little dusty.  There's some residue for a price sticker on the front, and a chip out at the top of the front panel.

If anyone is interested in anything, just drop me an e-mail at the usual place.  These will be much less than the going rates - in fact, they'll be bargains.

Ah, I got confused.  Yes, that is still available.  Just make a reasonable offer.
