Heads up, Seattle- (and environs) - ites:  A certain "royal" tv station may or may not have contacted me about a certain obsession I may or may not have for a feature story they may or may not be contemplating.  ;)

A feature story on that tune you can't identify.  WOW :)

Thanks, DR MBarnum, for the photos.  Would like to see more if you happen upon any.

Did all you kids ever take a group photo?

As spread out as we are it has been a long time since I think all of us have been together at the same time...my 40th birthday was likely the last time. I will have to go through some photos and see what  I can find.

I may or may not be excited bout this.  :D

KING-TV getting JMK to do a feature on Frances Farmer?

What's not to be excited about?

Great.  If you happen upon any of you guys taken as smaller tykes, that would be a kick to see, too!

I grew up with one sister - Patricia - we were both adopted.
We "get along" but we are I think, quite different in terms of values and attitudes.  She has two children.

From my "blood family":-  (My Father is 101 and My Mother is 83)

I am in more frequent contact with my Father than I am with my Mother. They divorced 30+ years ago.

A brother and sister from my Father's first marriage.

Lloyd is 78  He has two sonss, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren
Fay is 80. she has two children (I've not met them) and two grandchildren.

I am not in contact with Fay but we have met.
I am in regular contact with Lloyd and his children.

From my Father's marriage to my Mother,
Two Brothers:

Grant who will be 53 in two weeks time.
(He is in contact with My Mother but with no-one else - his choice)
Chris who is 51.
(I am am in regular contact with Chris)

I almost thought that you were going to write that you miss him but you miss the soup more. :D

No, I miss him because he died two years ago and although we weren't close any longer before his death, he would call once or twice a year just to touch base. The soup I miss because he didn't leave the recipe here for me to replicate. (He did leave some of his recipes here.)

Lunch ran late, but I did have time to watch several things when I got home.

I began by finishing the featurettes on the Criterion set of B.A. There was a documentary filmed in 1979 where we get to see Fassbinder directing and get to see how certain shots were set up, "cheated," done over and again in big crowd scenes to get things exactly right. Most of the scenes were shot in one take except for the big crowd scenes with lots of people on the streets where things had to be worked out painstakingly.

Amazingly, the movie came in four weeks ahead of schedule.

There was also a featurette on how the movie was remastered. Filmed in 16mm, we get to see them digitizing it frame by frame (after clean-up, color correction) and then transferring it to 35mm film.

Funny thing, though, the scenes they showed in the telecine machine look far, far better than what ended up on DVD. They "enhanced" it TOO much and made it a brown mess.

And a final featurette was a film professor compairing the original book to the 1931 film version and to Fassbinder's version. That was interesting, too, and when I go back down, I'll be watching the 1931 version. It's about 90 minutes long.

Next, I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. The gay characters weren't present, but Luke's parents were. The previews show Luke and Noah to be on tomorrow's show.

And I ended my afternoon watching the first 40 minutes of MY NAME IS EARL. It was another COPS episode parody, and very, very funny. Looking forward to seeing how things wrap up.

Thanks, DR Jane.  My grandparents were amazing people.  Once we moved back to the East coast and would see them more regularly, we'd go for walks in the woods around their house.  They knew the Latin and common names for every growing thing you could point to, and all the birds by sight or sound.

Good Afternoon!

Ah... Nothing like an unexpectedly short day of auditions... When you're still being paid for a full day.  :)

So...

As I mentioned in my previous post, the turnout for today's auditions was surprisingly small.  We were scheduled to go from 1:00-6:00, but we done at 2:30.  There were a few(!) good people who came in, but, alas, it was sort of a lackluster afternoon filled with lackluster talent.  However, there were a few "good bad" ones that brought a secret smile to my face every now and then.  ;)

And I believe I "witnessed" my favorite audition so far this year during the course of today's session.  It would take a while to describe exactly what happened, so instead I will describe it in the following list of "Do Nots"...

-DO NOT ever think that you can find the starting pitch on your own.

-DO NOT ever think that singing along with the movie soundtrack is the same thing as singing with a pianist.

-DO NOT ever assume the music you bought is in the same key.

-DO NOT cut out the exact 16 measures of your sheet music you're going to sing, then give them to the pianist in a "puzzle" that needs to be taped to the piano in order to be readable.

-DO NOT ever place money of any sort (coinage, bills, etc.) on the table in front of the casting agents during the course of your audition.

And, finally, most importantly...

-DO NOT ever leave the room, and then ask the monitor, "What do you do when the pianist can not play your music"?

YES!  All of the above happened - or rather did not happen - during the course of one 16-bar, 20-second audition today.

;D

I like gazpacho, vegetable matzo ball, and tomato soup. I am also considering developing floop soup.

And, yep, the WGA is on strike  - As I was walking up through midtown after the auditions, I noticed a couple of picket lines in front of various theatres/studios.  :-\

As for DVR issues...  Well, we've been having them lately too.  A lot of the Series that were in our Series Manager just suddenly went away.  However, we also realized that it only affected those shows on ABC.  Hmm.. ???

Thanks to DR SINGDAW (just keep driving), DR JANE and DR DAKOTA CELT - our trees will be nakey as well within a week or so I am thinking.

BUT I WANT SOME RED LEAVES!!!!!

Hmm... If tomorrow is as beautiful as it was today, maybe I'll venture to Central Park with my camera after my audition session.  -And today really was quite nice and Fall-y - not too hot, not too cool, and a beautiful sunny, blue sky.

Jose, congratulations to DB Jay.  I enjoyed the photos & reading about his run.  Continued vibes for DB Mike & his family.

And it was VERY cool picking up today's New York Times, and scanning the special NYC Marathon supplement and seeing my brother's name among the finishers' listing.  He came in 17,145th place.  Or the 17,153rd finisher out of 30,604 runners/finishers (if you take into account tie times)... The 13,344th male to finish the race... And the 4626th runner in his age group.

:)

Oy!  What a weekend.

I have, finally, caught up on my reorganization of DVDs and CDs.....and ALL are now ensconced in cases.

All plastic jewel boxes and keepcases are gone, gone, gone.  My condo feels light and airy now.

And just how did you dispose of the remaining jewel and slip cases?

Some of the used CD/DVD stores I've across will buy them for 50 cents a piece - sometimes more, sometimes less.
