Today and tomorrow and then I'm off until January 3rd.

I have my performance evaluation today, plus I have to finish as much work as I can so I can leave on Wednesday afternoon with as clean a desk as possible. Then I have a dentist appointment at 4pm and then I'm reading for my friend's playwrighting class from 8pm until 10pm.

T'will be a long day.

Today and tomorrow and then I'm off until January 3rd.

I have my performance evaluation today, ....

AARRGGHH!!  That reminds me that I have to DO evaluations for my staff!  I've never done them by myself (my former supervisor did them last year).  I also have to do my own self-evaluation...but it's all not due until the end of December, so I have a little time.

My computer is taking longer and longer to start up. It now takes about 10 minutes before I get the browser going. I've downloaded a clean up programme, which I was recommended, to see if that helps. At the moment it has spent several hours analysing the computer. So it's either doing a thoroughly good job or else it's stuck.

Good morning, all! I'm wondering, from this morning's news report, how many more accusations of Herman Cain's sexual behavior - she said . . . and he said she lies  - will be turning up. I also like Andy Borowitz' report about the FDA declaring Rick Perry a vegetable.

This morning, I have a date with one of my copyists to scan the ROBERTA full scores and prepare them for copying. I hope we can finish it up by noon. I want to get to the office soon to check over all of my info and have the scores ready when he arrives. On my way home, I need to stop at the pharmacy for December's supply of meds.

I have no more to report. Sorry about the Time Warner mess, BK!

Tuesday morning greetings!  Today I'm off to the booksale site to donate 2 boxes of books - one from my sister-in-law and the other containing mostly those cookbooks that I weeded out of my own collection last week.  I offered first picks to all the guests who were here over the weekend, but the only taker was my nephew's girlfriend who took 2 for herself and 2 for her niece.

Later today Richard and I are going to Oxford, OH, to

1) shop at the Miami University bookstore for part of our niece/goddaughter's graduation present
2) take a look at the newly-opened B.E.S.T Library (Business, Engineering, Science, & Technology)
3) have dinner at a favorite Chinese restaurant
4) attend a holiday concert by the Men's Glee Club and Collegiate Chorale

And here is our new release - available to order at www.kritzerland.com:

Kritzerland is very proud to present a new Broadway Cast Recording:

THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE Original Cast Recording
Book and Lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart | Music by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler

Once the darling of the Yiddish Theatre in pre-war Poland, now a grandmother in New York City, Bubbie has had quite a life. But what will it all mean if she can't pass on her stories to the next generation? Though her granddaughter is enchanted by her tales, her daughter Red will do anything to keep from looking back. A fiercely funny and deeply moving new musical that spans three generations, The People in the Picture celebrates the importance of learning from our past, and the power of laughter.

The "bubbie" of the 1970s and the diva of the 1930s are played by one woman — Donna Murphy, the star of Broadway's Passion, The King and I, Wonderful Town and LoveMusik, who received a 2011 Best Actress (Musical) Tony Award nomination for her performance.  Also starring are Alexander Gemignani, Christopher Innvar , Hal Robinson, Lewis J. Stadlen, Joyce Van Patten, Chip Zien, Brad Bradley, Rachel Bress, Jeremy Davis, Emilee Dupre, Maya Goldman, Louis Hobson, Shannon Lewis, Jessica Lea Patty, Andie Mechanic, Megan Reinking, Jeffrey Schecter and Paul Anthony Stewart.

Produced by Roundabout Theatre Company, in association with Tracy Aron, The People In The Picture was directed by Leonard Foglia (Master Class), with musical direction by Paul Gemignani, orchestrations by Michael Starobin and musical staging by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler (In the Heights).

The People In The Picture has a book and lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart, the acclaimed novelist, TV writer, and playwright.  Dart’s most well known book, Beaches, was turned into a hit movie starring Bette Midler.  The music is by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler.  Stoller, who as half of Lieber and Stoller, has written many of rock-and-roll’s most iconic songs, including “Hound Dog,” “Kansas City,” “Yakety Yak,” “Stand By Me,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Potion #9” and hundreds of others, including Peggy Lee’s brilliant “Is That All There Is.”  The smash hit jukebox musical, Smokey Joe’s Café, was based on the Lieber and Stoller catalog.  Artie Butler is an immensely talented and successful composer, arranger, and producer.  His song “Here’s To Life” has become a standard, thanks to recordings by Shirley Horn and Barbra Streisand.  Butler has worked with an incredible number of legendary singers, including Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee, Barry Manilow, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Sammy Davis, Jr., Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, Natalie Cole, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as well as composing scores for film and TV.
The original cast recording of The People In The Picture is produced by Steve Epstein.   The packaging includes a full color twenty-four-page booklet.

CD is priced at $19.98 plus shipping. CDs will ship the second week of January – however, it is our hope that this will ship before Christmas or the week after.   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com

New CD ordered!

I am very pleased with Comcast - which is the only provider I have ever used with the exception of Freewwweb - the FREE dialup service that I had for about a year in 1998 when I first got on the inner web......I used the "free" services, I think there was one more, before I finally went to Comcast and modem....

I don't think there are any more 'free' web services anymore.

I would not recomment U Verse from AT&T - there are download limits there.....I download a LOT of stuff and do not have to pay extra.....and there is no slowing down of the web when I reach a certain level of downloading....

So....Comcast it is.

I have DSL from Verizon. If it's possible, I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, (do you get the point?) Time-Warner even more than BK and we never even had Internet from them, just cable. We no longer even have cable (it's a long story and you don't want to know).

Time-Warner is a putrid, rancid, piece of sh*t company run by pigs with legs, in my humble opinion and if they went out of business I would go to the top of the Empire State Building and cheer to the heavens.

End of rant. Back to work.

Re: Time Warner. I have them, too, and haven't had too much problem, but I'm not trying to host a blog.  My complaint with them is COST. I think the $50.99/mo. that they charge for Internet only is far too high. I did a Google search some months back and all sorts of items came up, yet I've been told that TW is the only game in town. There's a box offered by Clear, but I know nothing about its reliability, and heard that they are in bankruptcy. Does anyone know more about this??

I am happy to be home; it's been a most peculiar day. The buses were screwed up, so there was a long wait until two showed up at the same time, I got to the platform as an ampty train pulled out, and the next one was packed, and I'm toting around a heavy shopping bag with too many pieces of music, I'm overdrawn, and I'm dealing with too much tsuris today from a control-hungry colleague.

So, that was the first half of the day.

I tote everything back to the subway, which is packed by 66th Street and I wonder, what is it with these idiots wh get onto a train, set their fat asses in a doorway, and then refuse to move so people can get off the damned train? All in all, not one of my better days. I hope there's a check in thw mail. Or food,

DR Jane - When you pre-order a book or CD or DVD from Amazon, you lock in that pre-order price which is usually lower than the eventual sale price. Additionally, you are not charged for the item until it ships. *And I also know that if the price drops on the day of the official release date, Amazon will honor that price.

Thank you.  I will confirm Barnes & Noble does the same.  I prefer to purchase from my local book store & will have to ask if they plan to have pre-orders in the future.

Just before I went to post the notes, Time Warner went down. I called and was told they have a schedulled six hour maintenance. I completely lost it and used my tired voice more than I should have. How dare them not let their customers know in advance! So no notes until I get up in the morning.

SCHEDULED!!  I don't blame you for being angry.

How frustrating.

So Conrad Murray has got 4 years imprisonment (watching it on TV live). I'm rather surprised. I don't understand why the judge referred to him as still being a danger to the public.

I feel bad for the guy.  Jackson was determined to get the drugs & what he wanted he got.

DR DOUG, sometimes opticians will stock earpieces for this very reason. You might want to call a few. Of course, that is a pedestrian solution, whereas DR Jrand and DR JMK offer much more elegant and creative ones.

It wasn't mentioned in the listing, but it turned out to be a signed copy.

Thanks for the travel vibes yesterday.  My flight arrived only about 30 minutes later than originally expected.

I went to meet friends from California for lunch.    I was about to write on the forum last evening and fell asleep!

30 minutes, not bad & you didn't have to make a connecting flight.  I hope you slept well.

And when you go back to work, I will be retired.

I had a nice day with a good work out at the gym & a nice hike.

After our hike we stopped to do an errand & ran into our neighbor who can be very frustrating at times.  He is always pleasant & friendly the problem for us is his attitude towards situations.

For years we have watched him race his lab up and down our road at full speed while he, or his son, ride the ATV. The guy was shocked when the dog didn't pass his 2 year old hip x-rays that were required before he could breed the dog.  Now the dog has something wrong with the shoulder that could be serious but he won't x-ray because if it is serious he isn't amputating.  Instead he is medicating, for what I haven't a clue.  Then he says, well these gun dogs have lots of shoulder problems.  I'm sure most hunters don't make a habit of running their dogs full speed up & down a long hill twice a day.

End of rant.

Been another long day. Two more suppers, but the amazing thing was that in the midst of dinner no. 2 tonight, I encountered a dish that was so good, it made me sit up and take notice. I'm not as jaded about this, even as we near the end of the book. What a beautiful feeling that was. And for those who care, it was perfectly fried hamachi kama, or tuna cheek, at the second of my Japanese meals tonight.

On the flip side, this morning I went to a pretty little coffee bar and everything I had was horrible right down to the ginger tea that was so sweet I couldn't drink it. Blech. And all the baked goods were day-old and not better than a box mix.

I didn't realize it, but it's a numbered limited edition.  We looked at the numbers on the top of the packaging and several were in the 10,000-20,000 range...a couple were over 30,000.

Back from a really good dress/tech.  I basically had no notes for the cast, who were all terrific.  I had a few notes for myself - I am NOT having enough fun in act one - act two is really fun for me, but I have to loosen up in act one and not have it seem like I'm lecturing - in fact, I think I'll make a joke about it.  I also think when we have theatre savvy audiences the patter will be more interesting.  Our semi-audience tonight were all kids.  A few numbers really killed tonight, especially Silverware from We Take The Town.  I got tongue tied in my opening speech - which I do off-book - couldn't get out "Something's Coming" and "Somewhere" - I don't know quite what I did (it's never happened before) but I could not get the words "Something's Coming" to come out - I finally had to make a joke out of it.

Post by: bk on November 29, 2011, 10:47:14 PM
Just prior to the show, I made one final change at the end of act one - while the entire cast is in the number, it was all Alet in terms of singing, but I had the company sing the final line with her, and that really makes it solid.

We had only a handful of lighting issues and fixes, and those will be done at three tomorrow.  I'm in a private dressing room - can't be around people or I'd just yak and use my voice too much.  I like just sitting and relaxing.  I did fit into my black pants and my outfit, I was told, looked good.  Jose played the best he's played - we have to have softer dynamics whenever the cast is on the platform, so he'll adjust that.

Time-Warner even more than BK and we never even had Internet from them, just cable.

See ya tomorrow, bed time.
