DR Ginny i have set off my smoke alarms many many times.

So have I.

At least I didn't actually have a fire break out in the oven - which has happened to both Richard and me as we were starting a dinner for the other!  We've gotten rid of that stove.  We've also now opened the windows to let the lingering smoke out and the cool evening air in.

I'll be curious to hear about the PBS IN THE HEIGHTS shows.  The PBS station i get on digital is not showing it (or at least it's not scheduled this week). But i have another PBS station that i can record on my VCR and i see it is on at 5am on Friday.

I really enjoyed it.  I loved IN THE HEIGHTS, so it was really fun to see the documentary

Such a well done program!  Now I really want to see ITH, but I'm glad I didn't drag Richard into it cold.  We needed the closed captioning to understand the lyrics on PBS.

I'm heading home now with my new computer!  It'll be a while (a few days, maybe) before I can set it all up, but at least I have it!

Until later!

I've watched the Ellison documentary, about which more later, and am now listening to the ten-minute bonus suite for the new soundtrack release.  We had the original LP masters, but I also had access to two reels of cues from the composer's archive - the tapes were really problematic - an audible audio hum throughout, along with loud static every now and then and wildly big volume shifts - I figured out which music wasn't on the original LP and my mastering guy somehow got it all to sound acceptable - no hum and no static (have no idea how he does this) and the music is wonderful, so what was a thirty minute CD is now a forty-minute CD.

DR CP did you see this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Pieces-The-Crucifier-of-Blood-Willie-Rourke-Dance_W0QQitemZ200345075933QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea57f40dd&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

Jrand,  I did not see it.  But then I wasn't looking for it.  I have that poster framed and hung on the wall by the door of my office, along with a pic of Heston, Brett, and me signed by Brett, a photo of Ian Richardson who was my film Holmes, and a picture of my pal, Eric Johnson, who played Holmes in my play THE EBONY APE.

The Harlan Ellison documentary arrived and I think I'll view it.

Speaking of Harlan Ellison, according to my Futurama calendar, today is his 75th birthday!  Happy Birthday to Harlan Ellison!

:D

It is Ellison's birthday, I called him up and starting singing that ole childhood bit of nostalgia, "Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, You look like a monkey, and you smell like one too."  And he hung up on me!

I have just a couple of things in common with Mr. Ellison - namely my car behavior (I'm actually much worse than him in that regard), and I usually say what I mean rather strongly.  I've been known to be called a curmudgeon, and like Mr. Ellison, I don't give a flying Wallenda what people think.

I had a grand evening of mystery and music. I began with THE DRAGON MURDER CASE. I didn't think I had ever seen it before, but I had and remembered the murderer's identity about 20 minutes into the film. Still, it was fun to see it again, and the cast was just wonderful.

Good Evening!

The gray that was over New York City for most of the day turned into more of a "bright haze".  Perfect for a nice walk around the West Village.  :)

The next PHILO VANCE picture I hadn't seen, and what a surprise to find Rosalind Russell in a strong supporting role. This was THE CASINO MURDER CASE. I was mad that I didn't guess the identity of the murderer. I should have figured it out.

After having watched two Vance mysteries in a row, I thought I'd save the other one I recorded for tomorrow or later in the week. It's THE GARDEN MURDER CASE. It's only 62 minutes long, so whenever I watch it, it won't take very long.

To finish up the evening I watched STAR! again. After "Dear Little Boy," I turned on the commentary track and enjoyed listening to the various edited together interviews about the movie. Very well done.

An Unmarried Gay Man's Dream Casting!

Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are set to star on Broadway in Keith Huff's A STEADY RAIN.

A friend of mine posted a link to the Playbill.com article, and followed up with this comment:

"please please please let there be at least one moment where they are forced to take comfort in each others arms."

I have actually finished my review pile for a day or two.   Larry, have you seen the new BD of the 2006 Covent Garden Don Giovanni?  It was great!  Not a moment of Eurotrash in sight.  :)

My favorite SETTING OFF THE SMOKE ALARM story:  in our old house, I had purchased DS Betsy one of those pasta maker thingamajigs.  After you've rolled and cut the pasta, you're supposed to put it on wax paper.  Well, Betsy placed one of the pieces of wax paper too close to the stove burner and it caught on fire.  OK, here's the deal--it was on fire on the stove, which was right next to our sink.  A sink has water in it which will douse the flames.  So what does Betsy do?  Start screaming and running through the house with a piece of flaming wax paper, which is spewing mini-flaming pieces all over the hardwood floor.  Not only did the smoke alarm go off, Betsy ended up actually scorching one of our bushes outside where she ultimately threw the remnants.  It was hilarious.

LOL.....exactly what the man in the documentary would have done.  I remember him writing in THE GLASS TEAT that on the night THE OSCAR was scheduled to be on television, he planned to just take his phone off the hook and ignore any communication......but he forgot it would be on three hours earlier on the East Coast and had to field several calls....
