I got an email offering a discount on SPIDERMAN tickets.....Orchestra Flying Circle through February 27 - the optimists!
Use code SMBWW1 to get $137 tickets for $79 or $142 tickets for $99.
For some reason they are pushing December 19 at 3 p.m.
TOD - Librarian dream, trying to close the building and not being able to get everyone out.Not to make light of your dream, but I was just at the main library on Tuesday when they had to evacuate everyone. I don't know what it was for; the voice over the intercom crackled as badly as if I were at a fast food drive-thru.

My enthusiasm for going to see SPIDER-MAN has waned. I had planned on going up to see it in previews this month, but then the 60 Minutes segment played and its pretty much sold out for the month, matinee-wise. And the reports haven't been all that glowing. I think I can wait until I start hearing better news about it.
I agree with you. I think the worry factor would override the entertainment factor. Yep, it's been interesting seeing the discount codes popping up for Spider-Man....
I'm still kind of interested in seeing it, however, I'm just not sure I would be able to enjoy it. I mean, there's quite a difference between exciting moments and fearing for someone's safety throughout the course of an evening. I just really hope that Natalie Mendoza is able to return to the show sooner rather than later. And I still haven't heard if the actor who broke his wrists during the group sales preview is actually back in the show, or just sitting in the wings each night.
Just popped in "The Bishop's Wife." Don't think I ever noticed that Jerome Moross did the orchestrations.
I never saw this movie as a kid, so it doesn't hold as great a sentimental attachment for me as, say, "Miracle on 34th Street," but watching it this morning has made me realize just how much I enjoy the movie. (Not the Penny Marshall remake.)Just popped in "The Bishop's Wife." Don't think I ever noticed that Jerome Moross did the orchestrations.
Moross was brought to Hollywood by his friend Aaron Copland to orchestrate "The Heiress." A lot of his income before he started writing film scores was as a film orchestrator.
However they did get the right suite number on my bill.
In happier news...I hope you wear blinders. Their teeth are said to hurt retinas.
It turns out a friend of mine is playing in the band for Donny and Marie's Christmas Show here in NYC, and he had an extra ticket for their opening night tonight. :)
Does anybody else think that the Ronni Chasen murder is getting a bit strange?Truly bizarre.

Last week I rented, from Netflix, a documentary on Fred Phelps and his family...quite fascinating...very disturbing, especially the interviews with his little 6 and 7 year old grandchildren...oh, the vile things that spewed from this little children's mouths....it was horrifying and sad.
BK, ..speaking of lovers who meet in dreams, have you ever seen the old Gary Cooper movie, PETER IBBETSON based on a novel by George Du Maurier (it was also adapted into a play with John Barrymore). Gary Cooper kills the tyranical husband of the woman he loves, goes to prison. The bond between the two lovers is so strong that they meet in their dreams, always staying young, never aging as they do in real life. Eventually, they just spend their time sleeping so they can meet. I haven't seen it in years, but you can see the problem. With the two sleeping all the time and meeting idyllically in dreams, it becomes rather dramatically inert. Or at least that's my ancient memory of it.

DR JOSE have you ever seen DONNY & MARIE live?
I haven't seen them together, but have seen them each in different projects....and met Marie after the show....nice lady....I have a friend who was called on stage during their Vegas act to sing with Marie. He and his wife got to go backstage for the after-party and he had the exact same comments to make about her.
We saw her in THE SOUND OF MUSIC.....and all I could think of when she started the show lying on a "hill"......is.....that girl is STACKED....whew! Very unexpected.

As of January a lot of paypal businesses will be bolting thanks to yet more intrusion by the government. The rich get richer and the people using paypal and make over a certain amount will now be subject to the prying eyes of the you-know-who. Paypal has fought this for years, but you can't win - so people will now have to find other ways. We'll have to switch over to a shopping cart system where people will use their charge cards. We'll keep paypal as an option until we get near the limit, then we'll stop.Whatever work best for you. Let us know the best method and I'll use it when I can order.

Jose - with three people injured, none while actually onstage performing, is there any indication (other than the extreme scrutiny of the reporters) that SPIDER-MAN is more dangerous than other physical musicals like SHOGUN?
Aren't there injuries on many musicals?

I have no friends involved in SPIDER-MAN but it does seem that the reporting has been greater on the injuries.
One actor, Adrian Bailey, filed a lawsuit against Disney and others in 2008 after falling through a trap door before a performance of “The Little Mermaid” and suffering fractured wrists, a broken back, a shattered pelvis and several injuries. Mr. Bailey alleged that there were inadequate warnings and safety devices to protect performers. The litigation remains ongoing.

Eeek...
And then there was that horrible accident during the Kennedy Center run of Sweeney Todd - the tour - although, I believe it happened during the previews... Angelina Reaux was playing the Beggar Woman. She's in the barber chair, she gets her throat slashed, he pulls the lever, the trap door opens, the chair turns into the slide, she starts to slide... then the trap door closes too early on her ankles... :-\

SMILIN' THROUGH was made into a Vincent Youmans floperetta "Through the Years," but the score is quite wonderful.

I thought Merle Louise was - and always was - the original Beggar Woman.
I also remember Walter Charles telling us the story when we were teching Sweeney during the Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center. Needless to say, there were extra stagehands on hand to make sure things ran smoothly when they tested the chair.

When FJL likes a show he will defend it and be protective of it until the cows come home - does he know someone involved? That I do not know.Don't we all do that with the shows -- or books, food, etc. -- that we like for whatever reason? Some of us are more vocal, but we do stick with what moves us. Nothing wrong with that.

To me, the problem with "Inception" was Leonardo DiCaprio. His performance, at times, was just embarrassing. He was a black hole at the center of "Shutter Island," too. I just don't see why people keep hiring him. He's nowhere near the actor he's made out to be.

Sylvie Cachay, 33, was found in a Soho House room after police received a call from the Manhattan hotel at about 3 a.m., police said. Water had been leaking from a ceiling, and hotel staff went to the floor above, where they found Cachay, dressed in a sweater and underwear, submerged in the tub.
Cachay's boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, the 24-year-old son of "You Light Up My Life" songwriter Joseph Brooks, was seen leaving the hotel earlier and returned at about 3:30 a.m. to find police there, the law enforcement official said. In an unrelated case, the father is fighting charges that accuse him of molesting would-be actresses in his Manhattan apartment.

The younger Brooks had not been charged with any crime. Police said he was speaking to investigators without an attorney earlier in the day, and it was unclear if he had retained a lawyer.

Cell phone service at our house has always been terrible. Often the phone will ring but I can't talk, but at least it rang & I could see who called. I could send text messages & receive them in a few areas in the house. Now texting rarely works and sending them is almost impossible or can take an hour unless I go outside. It is getting rather cold to stand outside.
Standing outside is what I had to do in order to call for my PIN so I can check voice mail from a land line.

I don;t think the show was ready for the critics as of a week ago, but as someone who thinks it's OK for Taymor and Berger to mess with the comic book story, I hate to see it not gte a fair shake - and I don't think it should be held to a higher standard than other shows in terms of mishaps and such.

Ugh... I just got sick to my stomach reading a report that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing at Elizabeth Edwards' funeral...
Why on earth are they picketing her funeral....
She must have had some brilliant thought that vibrated the braces on their tiny brains.
“The message of Elizabeth Edwards is an affront to God-fearing Christians and an aberration to her maker. This diseased and demonic modern-day Lilith advocates universal health care and women’s rights. This is dangerous rhetoric. First of all, medical science defies the intent of God, just as much as gay, drug-fueled sodomy does. Ask Ted Haggard. And if God strikes you ill with something like cancer, it’s because He wants you off His earth. Why? If you’re Elizabeth Edwards, maybe it’s because you refused to clean the house or satisfy your husband. Of course, if you’re saved, as only members of the Westboro Baptist Church are, it’s to bring you back into the heavenly flock. Either way, prolonging the inevitable through ‘healthy living’ is just giving the Lord the middle finger, right in His holy pooper. And then there’s all this women’s liberation claptrap. Had Eve not eaten the apple, had she displayed an ounce of integrity or smarts enough to know her place under man, the human race would not be condemned as it is now. But no, she pestered and prodded poor Adam into sin. I guess my point is that God hates nags.”
TCB - I'm guessing that $65-million includes a lot of "false starts" along the way. To me, except for the costs of the flying and the projections, I don't get why it costs much more than SHREK or MARY POPPINS.

That said, I am glad I was sitting both times where no one could possibly land on me. :) I hated being almost under the car at CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, for example.
Ugh... I just got sick to my stomach reading a report that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing at Elizabeth Edwards' funeral...
Why on earth are they picketing her funeral....
She must have had some brilliant thought that vibrated the braces on their tiny brains.
This is why they are picketing her funeral:
***WARNING!!! This is the statement that they released. It is truly sickening, maddening and outrageous. You may want to skip it. I'm going to "downsize" it, so if you really want to read it, well... You know what to do.Quote“The message of Elizabeth Edwards is an affront to God-fearing Christians and an aberration to her maker.
