Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a mission and were accomplished, and now it is time for you to post until the accomplished cows come home.

Happy to say that our Tuesday night show is completely sold out - we're overbooking, however, because I think we all know how reliable people are.  The Monday night performance is over two-thirds gone right now.

Hmmm...I think I found another advantage to Blu-Ray...

Last night at Target, I saw the new release of WOODSTOCK.  They had the plain vanilla director's cut DVD release priced at $16.99.  But then I spotted the 40th anniversary super special edition for Blu-Ray that contained all kinds of nifty-keen extras (encased in a box that was covered in fringed suede, 'natch!)  Cool!, I thought--now where's the DVD version?  Well, they had it--but it came in a big round drum-like box that had a tamberine for a lid.  That would be fine if I needed a new container for my stash, but otherwise this thing was not going to fit neatly into any video shelf.  I passed it up--if I decide I want it bad enough, I can get it cheaper on Amazon...

Last night BK asked:

Quote
How do I set up a Kritzerland on Twitter that's not the same as BK on Twitter - or whatever I am on Twitter.

BK, you can set up @Kritzerland but you will need a different e-mail address other than the one you are using for @haineshisway.

Also, you might want to go out to Twibes.com and join up with the theatre "twibe".  It's a good way to find followers and followees.

Very cool!  I just found the 40th Anniversary WOODSTOCK special edition for DVD on Amazon that is like the boxy Blu-Ray set I saw at Target.  In fact, I didn't even see the drum/tamberine set--it must me a Target exclusive.

Ordered and awaiting its arrival.

Good morning, all! I slept late and that's that.

Today, Jerome Moross: I need to organize all the work I have for his scores. PHI, once again, is taking its time paying us, so I can't afford a walk to the corner.  I may watch a DVD this afternoon as well. I have one last Netflix sitting here, something Mexican, I think.

DR singdaw, Keith Garebian is a Canadan(?) author who, like Gerald Bordman, knows nothing. He works entirely from secondary sources - reviews and other books, often equally inaccurate sources - reports nothing new, and repeats errors from other sources. He has at least three show histories, GYPSY and MY FAIR LADY being the other two. I think for anyone living in the New York area, it's a waste of money: go to the NYPL theatre collection and look at the original photos, scrapbooks, programs, etc.  and form your own opinion. It's much more entertaining than a half-assed history and your discoveries and findings may be different from a hack like Ethan Mordden as well!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Wishes to Baxter the Clown !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep! why is it some good writers have a hard time finding a publisher and others like Mr Garebian can get three poor histories published?

See my previous post.

I have all three of his books and found them poorly researched and written. I wish there were better tomes out there about these classics. They're well represented in that marvelous coffee table book 101 GRAETEST MUSICALS (or whatever it's called), but they really deserve a thorough "making-of" book each.

Good morning!

It was cool enough this morning to open up the house once more, but it's going to be 92 today, so around noon, things will be closed up again. Such is life in the South. And there won't be many more days where I can open the doors and windows in the morning. Soon, it won't be dipping into the low 60s at night.

In classic style - I was awakened by a phone call at seven in the morning from Bill Rosenfield, who was then head of the BMG show division, telling me - needless to say that was quite the day.

These cretins who are building next door have taken up every single parking space not only on the street where the house is (one house north of me) but also the street that runs east and west (where the entrance to my house is) - the ONLY place they haven't taken is - where my car is parked.  And since they're gone every night at five and I'm home after that, they will never ever get that space until I leave for the day.  I think there's real bad feeling amongst all the neighbors here - real bad feeling.

I went into my history and found the page that came up when I restarted the computer, and that gave me the new jazzy page with the top sites stuff, which I like - but I have the roadrunner page set as my home page and now when I come back to Safari that's what I get.  Do I have to get rid of that to see the new top sites page?

Betsy is probably flying back to Wisconsin (again) next week to help her Mom and Dad.  The Producers' director was semi-irate that I'll have to bring my kids to the rehearsal, but, you know what?  C'est la vie.  The producer (no pun intended) is a mom and is totally fine with it.  My kids are always well behaved at rehearsals, as BK will attest (Zach even went in the other room to vomit on the floor during the Bacharach rehearsals, LOL).

It looks nice, but I was thinking the same thing.   A simpler font (or one that isn't italicized) might work better.  Then again, the original may be large enough and clear enough to not be a problem.

It's actually quite easy on the hard copy--it doesn't translate well to the web.  Black didn't work--we did try it.  But I'm thinking a nice dark blue would be nice, so I'm going to experiment today.

I do have a garage and I do not use it for two simple reasons - it's very crowded in there (although I could park the car since the Handy Man organized everything) and I would not be able to get to the Kritzerland stock if the car was in there.  More importantly, it's a really steep incline going up into the garage (don't know why, really, but it is) and it's impossible to not scrape the bottom of the car and when I was parking in there regularly it, in fact, punched a hole and caused an oil leak - so I park in front of the house now.

Safari 4 is just an update to Safari 3. It opens the same way as it always has.

However, if your tool bar is grayed out, it sounds like you may need to re-download and re-install it again.  ???

The same thing happened to me when I tried mailing George a DVD some time ago.  IIRC, Master George forgot to include his Unit Number (not a euphemism).

Have you tried the graphic background in reverse/negative? With more white, the text would pop out more. Or you could also try taking down the gray another notch of two for a half-tone effect.

Well.. The whole landlord/apartment saga continues here in Hamilton Heights.  I just had another discussion with our property manager, and even though some of it was confusing, I did find out that she went ahead and put us on a month-to-month situation right now since she did not give us a new lease to sign when it was supposed to given to us.  ::)  So...

We are "safe" until the end of the month. However, unless we find two new roommates before the end of the week, it looks like we're going to have to move.  Alas, with my current work situation, well... Just got lots of thinking to do.

I was very productive before leaving & did get a lot done around here.  Once I'm feeling better I need to finish what I began & clean out my closet & drawers.  I have clothes from 30 years ago I'm such a rat pack.

Not exactly.  Make the (original) gray white; and the white gray.  As if a white image was being printed on gray paper.

And if you un-bold the font, and maybe take it down one point in size, all the text could possibly fit in the middle of the star.

"THERE was a time, before my husband got all of us hooked on watching old episodes of “The Wire,” when our block behaved like a typical suburban neighborhood.

Families ate dinner together. Laundry got done. Parents spoke to their children.

But then one night, a few weeks ago, my husband started passing around DVDs at a dinner party. The next thing the rest of us knew, we were addicted — and not just to this particular series about cops chasing drug dealers in Baltimore, but to a new way of life.

We started mainlining old TV..."

DR elmore - I made myself the tenant-landlord liaison since we never heard word back from our landlord until the middle of last week.  I just didn't like the feeling of not knowing exactly what was going on with the lease, especially from a legal "what it says in the lease" standpoint.  However, it has sort of worked in our favor.  I was able to negotiate a reduction in the rent, and under the current arrangement, we can still stay in the apartment until the end of the month.  And, if in the meantime, we do find two new roommates, then we'll just sign a new lease then.  I'd say more about the negotiations, but... :-x

As far as work and rent are concerned, I can cover the rent right now.  I just don't think I can cover rent, a move, another security deposit and another month's rent right now.  Just breathing and taking it one day at a time right now.

And Anthony thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

We just got back from a day out in New York.

We went to Grant's Tomb (122nd Street)

Lincoln Center branch of the New York Public Library and the Astor Gallery for an exhibition of some of the papers of Katherine Heburn (66th Street)

and then

New York Public Library at 42nd Street for an exhibition on 1969, the first year of Gay Liberation (as it was called back then).

Now we are home and will go out to eat later.

Anthony received a card in the mail and a package from a friend in Wisconsin. I haven't given him his card and gift yet.

All in all, it's been a nice day. I'm out of the office, hell, it's been a great day!

I left the door to my office open and all the cool air from the AC flowed out into the rest of the upstairs that I don't cool, so when I came upstairs it was hot as hell in this office. I have a question for anyone that might know the answer, and it's about Hello, Dolly! - something of which we can never have enough of.

In 2000 or a little before, Tams-Whitmark began providing alternate keys for the character of Dolly Levi.  I guess after many years of inquiries and things like that, they finally gave in.  The new keys were a 5th or so above Carol Channing's original keys in the score.  It was an additional rental, but worth it.  Recently, a friend of mine who is directing a production of the show, noticed that the alternate keys were no longer listed on the TM website and when asked, TM said that they were not offering them anymore.

Does anyone know the reasoning for this?

A few minutes ago I had my monthly phone conversation with AT&T. I bought an AT&T phone a few months ago and the billing has been a nightmare. I call them up, they seem cooperative enough, and tell me that they've straightened it all out and I owe nothing. Then I receive a bill saying that I owe them hundreds of dollars (literally!). Today I made sure I got the name of the rep, so if we have to go through this again we won't be starting from zero. I take notes of all these calls and that helps, but when I asked for an email (or something) to document our conversation I was told that wasn't possible.

Gawd, what a drag!

OK, rant over.

I need to run an errand and grab some lunch. Maybe that will help.

Oh...

DR Jeanne - If you happen to be near an AT&T store in the near future, I'd go in there and talk to a sales/billing manager in person.  Just to make sure it's documented.  In person.

Boy, is it hot, and boy, am I ever STUPID! I left the door to my office open and all the cool air from the AC flowed out into the rest of the upstairs that I don't cool, so when I came upstairs it was hot as hell in this office. I have the floor fan going, and the AC is doing its thing, so it'll be pleasant in here soon enough, but I feel like a complete idiot.

Read my post about the exploding eggs yesterday and feel much better!

DR George,

The DVD I sent you of PUSHING DAISIES got returned today, so I must not have your correct address or I addressed it wrongly. Please PM me with your currenty address. Thanks. I'll try to mail it again on Friday.

The same thing happened to me when I tried mailing George a DVD some time ago.  IIRC, Master George forgot to include his Unit Number (not a euphemism).

Well, spank my butt and call me Dodie. ::)

;)

Did "Dodie" leave the SW, #M2 off the address he gave you?

AARRGGHH!! :P

It's called a "brain fart!"  Sue me (a Guys and Dolls reference)!

I meant to comment last night on DR Jennifer's wish that the GUYS AND DOLLS cast had done a number featuring the four leads.  Unfortunately, there is no song in the show that all four leads sing, except for the brief reprise of GUYS AND DOLLS at the end of the show.  In fact, other than a few bars in THE OLDEST ESTABLISHED, Nathan Detroit only sings one song and that is the duet of SUE ME, which would have gotten lost on the stage at Radio City.  If they had wanted to showcase a number that might have sold a few tickets, they probably should have used LUCK BE A LADY TONIGHT.  It features not only the male chorus, but also the far more charismatic Craig Bierko.

I'm sorry this happened, DR George. I had the best of intentions. The address I had for you was obviously your previous address (when we exchanged those WILL & GRACE episodes several years ago). I have never had the address you sent me for your new condo. I'll put it in the mail on Friday if you still want it.

11-YEAR-OLD GEORGIA GIRL ORDERED TO LEAVE U.S. FOR POLAND OVER PAPERWORK ERROR

The last thing 11-year-old Ewelina Bledniak of Cummings, Ga., had in mind for her summer vacation was a deportation fight.

But Hubert and Agnes Bledniak's daughter, who has been in the U.S. since she was 2 years old, faces getting thrown out of America if she doesn't "voluntarily leave" the country by July 23.

If she doesn't go "home" to Poland — a country she hasn't seen since she was a baby — on her own, she'll be sent back involuntarily and not allowed to return for 10 years.

Ewelina's family came to America in 1999, and her father has become an American citizen. Her mother, a permanent resident, also is seeking to become a citizen. But because of a lawyer's mistake eight years ago, according to the Bledniaks, Ewelina can't stay in the U.S. with her parents.
The Bledniaks say their lawyer failed to file the proper documentation for Ewelina back in 2001 — a mistake that stayed under the radar until the family applied for their daughter's green card. It came back denied, automatically putting Ewelina into deportation proceedings.

Tempting but too risky.  Don't they just send the kids off?  I found the following:

"The Bledniaks plan to travel with Ewelina to Poland on July 20. Once there, they will have to wait for an interview with the U.S. Embassy. Embassy officials will evaluate Ewelina's documentation and make her undergo a medical examination. If the family's petition is granted, she will be permitted to return to the U.S., and to re-file for a green card."

Of course not. She didn't want the information on the site to become public.

After it happened the second time i would ask to speak to the person who answers boss. That is ridiculous!

It would be nice if one the the Talk Show hosts took up the cause.

Yes, Carol has decided on one more revival!   ;D

She might enjoy visiting Poland for part of the summer, what we saw of it is beautiful.

I suspect her family who will have to take off work for months and bear the expense of a foreign trip will not enjoy it at all.

der Brucer

I wonder what would happen if the family said to INS - fine, she's all yours - please find her appropriate accommodations in Poland.

That"s called Consular processing.  She's a minor so she won't accrue ulawful presence.  My guess is she'll get a green card

I feel for ya!  I do.

High here in Oakland CA today was F 69.  It was a "warm" 69, though.  Not like yesterday's very breezy and chilly F 69.  We are supposed to get rain today.   ANOTHER rain....IN JULY!

I don't know where I am any more.

Or what month!

I am very angry at the moment at PETSMART (I think that is a national chain).  They always brag about how much they care about pets and people and how they only do adoption of animals through the Humane Society.

This morning I was there getting Nicky his hairball medicine, and I decided to take a look at what cats they were boarding for the Humane Society.  I saw this one incredible little kitten (8 months old) a lynx point with a beautiful mask.  His name was Jedi.  As soon as I walked into the area he jumped down off of his bed and came to the front of the cage and started reachng through the bars to touch me.  We immediately bonded, and although he was a little younger than I wanted, I decided to take him.

I took the paperwork for the Humane Society, we put a hold on Jedi until tomorrow at noon.  I planned on going to the Humane Society at 9:00 when they opened, pay all the fees, then pick up Jedi and spend the rest of the day aclimating Jedi and Nicky.

PETSMART just called me and this snippy little bitch told me that there had been a mistake and that they already had a hold on Jedi, and that the people just came and got him.  She said the other hold slip was stuck between the two pieces of paper. I told her I taken all of the paperwork off of  the clipboard and read everything, and there was no other hold slip with his paperwork.  That is when the girl got snippy and said, "Well, I don't know what to tell you, but there was two holds on the cat and the other people already took him."  Good bye and thank you.

I feel like I lost Angel a second time.   :'(

Well, I must say I'm amused that "The Donald" has -- after a couple of weeks -- FIRED Miss California USA.  Not for her stance against gay marriage, but for her missing events at which she was required to appear AS "Miss California USA".

None of them, of course, were events against gay marriage which seem to take up all her time these days.

No, but it's so much fun when the representatives of so-called morality get caught with their pants down!

Another set of topless modeling photos of her just turned up as well, which were taken only last year (when she was 20 years old). She evidently forgot about those, since she claimed all the previous nasty photos she had posed for before were taken when she was a teenager, and didn't know any better.

Just read that soap actor Johnny Palermo died in a car accident today in North Hollywood. His girlfriend also died in the accident. If he looks familiar it is because he has appeared on a lot of TV shows lately (I remember him appearing on RULES OF ENGAGEMENT). Very sad, he was only 27 years old.

Great photos, Jose. Looks like you had a nice walk.

I really did.

What's truly amazing is that the portion of The High Line that is currently open is only six blocks long.  And I was up there for two hours!  Right now, it runs from Gansevoort to 20th Street.  Eventually, it will go all the way up to 34th (I believe).

*And some of the seating is on the tracks, and some of the seats do move on the tracks!  Such a great re-purposing of a space and structure that almost got torn down.

It also turned out that City Bakery has two of their "birdbath" carts set up at The High Line selling cookies, lemonade and other treats.  When I entered the park, I noticed the first cart set up right by the entrance.  Of course, I had just been to City Bakery about 30 minutes before... ;)  So, I just browsed.  Well...

As I was leaving, the carts were still set up, and one of the clerks still remembered me from before... And since they were about to close up shop - the park closes at 10:00 - the cookies were being offered 2-for-1... And then 3-for-1.  :)

I think their Oatmeal Cookie will make a great breakfast. :)

Holy moley on rye, this is the first moment today that I've had to actually sit down and, well, sit down.  Unbelievably crazy day - got almost everything done that was planned which is in of itself amazing, blocking sixty pages of act one's sixty-nine pages.  Then at the end of the day, my stage manager made an off-handed comment about there being risers or levels in the theater where we'll be doing the reading.  This was news to me.  So he called the theater and had them send us the floor plan and it's a four-star disaster - risers everywhere, the entire set is facing towards stage left so that if you stand facing the audience you look weird, and little room for actual flat across staging, which is, of course, exactly what I spent the entire day doing.  Adam and I talked it through and it's just going to have to look different than I want it to, which is infuriating - the actors will just have to keep their positions but now some of them will be on risers, some won't, and I'll adjust everything once I finish blocking the show.  The SM will tape out the floor tomorrow and I'll start doing the new stuff according to the floor plan.  When I spoke to the theater guy about it he got all attitude-y with me, and I think you know how that sort of thing goes down.  I reminded him that when I booked the theater I was told that there would be at least as much playing room, if not more, than what was currently then available due to their then set.  No one said there will be risers all over the stage (it's one of the stupidest stage designs I've ever seen), no one said anything.  Nothing to be done about it, so we'll make the best, but I can assure you that I will be mentioning this fact to our audiences (in a humorous way, of course) so that they don't think Adam and I are completely inept visually.
