Well.. The whole landlord/apartment saga continues here in Hamilton Heights. I just had another discussion with our property manager, and even though some of it was confusing, I did find out that she went ahead and put us on a month-to-month situation right now since she did not give us a new lease to sign when it was supposed to given to us.
So...
We are "safe" until the end of the month. However, unless we find two new roommates before the end of the week, it looks like we're going to have to move. Alas, with my current work situation, well... Just got lots of thinking to do.
Lordy, DR Jose! This is terrible news. Didn't the tenants have a copy of this new lease? Are you the designated tenant-landlord liaison?
DR elmore - I
made myself the tenant-landlord liaison since we never heard word back from our landlord until the middle of last week. I just didn't like the feeling of not knowing exactly what was going on with the lease, especially from a legal "what it says in the lease" standpoint. However, it has sort of worked in our favor. I was able to negotiate a reduction in the rent, and under the current arrangement, we can still stay in the apartment until the end of the month. And, if in the meantime, we do find two new roommates, then we'll just sign a new lease then. I'd say more about the negotiations, but... :-x
As far as work and rent are concerned, I can cover the rent right now. I just don't think I can cover rent, a move, another security deposit and another month's rent right now. Just breathing and taking it one day at a time right now.
