Well, you've read the notes, the notes were mixed up, and now it is time for you to post until the mixed-up cows come home.

As I was saying... ;)
Cropped a bit, this will be the cover art for the WMSMA's new Christmas album...

With Brent, we know who wears ... the pants! :D
Well, even if he does wear the pants, I think the bigger question is: Boxers or briefs? Or à la Schottische?
-
I believe briefs - when we were recording Rebecca Luker's album he stopped by and she was, how shall I put it, going through some emotional stuff having to do with a breakup and she was getting all weepy, so I told Brent to take off his pants and go in to say hello. He did. It did the trick and the rest of that vocal day went swimmingly.

Wasn't SUBFUSC one of Irwin Allen's tv series in the sixties?

TOD:
I bought "I Want to Hold Your Hand"/"She Loves Me" after seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan....and many other singles and a couple of albums...."Meet the Beatles".....
We saw HARD DAY'S NIGHT on its second run, I think....the little movie theatres near us never had the first run movies.....but it was most enjoyable.

Today is the 20th anniversary of our first date. In honor of that, I've arranged for a presentation on the giant screen at Radio City Music Hall of one of Skip's all-time favorite films (Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring) to be accompanied by a 300-plus-piece orchestra. I've also arranged for there to be about 6,000 other audience members whom we don't know there tonight as well, just to provide some atmosphere; they've been instructed not to acknowledge our anniversary, nor are they to sing the Flintstones' Happy Anniversary song.
-
What a lovely gesture, DR FJL! :D
-
DR FJL - how thoughtful of you! What a wonderful way to remember the day!
-
On my birthday in 1967, a local station showed an Allison Hayes movie, and I was sure the programming manager did it just for me.

Favorite Beatles Album:
Tough choice, but, the first cd I played from the new boxed set was RUBBER SOUL, which has always had a place in my heart.
Favorite Beatles Song"
No contest: "The Long and Winding Road"
runner-up: "Golden Slumbers/The Weight"
-
Happiest of Anniversaries to DR FJL and his ever-lovin' Skip.
-
Good morning, all! I have a quiet day around the apartment to catch up on work and putter around until I catch tonight's performance. I need to go through Act One of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and check out the corrections, and I believe that's the priority. I was working on the new vocal score to Jerome Moross' GENTLEMEN BE SEATED in July whewn I became infirm, and I need to get back to that as well.
I loved the Beatles. I believe I saw both HARD DAY'S NIGHT and HELP on the first day of each release and became a huge Richard Lester fan, although it took me a while to forgive him for what he did to A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. Favorite songs:
Ticket to Ride
Help
Eleanor Rigby
The Long and Winding Road
Yesterday
Here, There and Everywhere
-
TOD - hearing "Hey, Jude" always takes me back to the snack bar in the basement of Bursley Hall, my freshman dorm at Michigan.
I'm off to get my hair cut and to the post office - bye for now!
-
I am not much of a fan of the Beatles, though some of their songs are fun. For a favorite I would choose The Long and Winding Road. It is certainly very pretty.
-
Happy Anniversary to the Dynamic Duo!
-
HEY, JUDE, is another one I really like.
Maybe I like more Beatles songs then I realize.

FJL, have a wonderful 20th anniversary date!

TOD: When the Beatles invaded, all the girls my age went crazy over them. I was listening to Peter, Paul and Mary and was annoyed by all this fuss and craziness. (Even as a child I was an eliist snob!) I didn't even watch them on Ed Sullivan. I couldn't stand all those screaming girls and thought it was embarrassing!
When I was in Jr. High, I finally became a fan. I think Sgt. Peppers won me over, and the White Album made the biggest impression on me. I loved every song on it. And I became a big fan of John Lennon, particularly, and loved his books and his acting...in fact, his whole pre-Yoko persona. I was devastated when he was murdered.
The song I remember the most is Strawberry Fields Forever. My brother and I listened to the single over and over again after we bought it. After about the 10th playing, we didn't immediately take the needle off the disc and thus discovered the backward track at the very end. We looked at each other and then looked at the record player like it was possessed. How could we have listened to this song over and over and not heard this? It was really kind of scary!
Last month, we went to hear a band from Athens, GA perform "Abbey Road Live". It was a group of musicians who loved the music and played it really well, adding their own tasteful touches. They didn't try to emulate the Beatles' personas, and they had really nice arrangements for their little 6 piece string and horn ensemble. It was wonderful to hear the whole album performed live.
That was their first set. For the second set, they played songs spanning the life of the band. When they launched into Strawberry Fields, I told Greg: I will be REALLY impressed if they do that backwards part at the end".
Needless to say, I was VERY impressed!
-
Tomorrow night we're going to see a show at the Fox called "Rain". Some kind of big Beatles stage show. We're going with our architect, a huge Beatles fan. We call him our architect because he did all the designs for renovations on the house in Marietta. We spent several years and thousands of dollars on these beautiful plans which added living space to the upstairs and captured our wonderful view of Kennesaw Mountain.
Since the loft was built, if we had built our plan, we would now have a great view of a brick wall. So...glad we didn't go that far!
If he comes over early, we will probably hang out and play music for a little while.
Anyone see this show?
-
Good morning. I am tired today, but is gray and cloudy and lovely, so I will enjoy the day.

In '78, after working in the editing room on an NBC movie called SUMMER OF MY GERMAN SOLDIER, we finished it in London, where the editors lived. We mixed the sound at George Martin's Air Studios in SoHo. Mr. Martin popped in several times to check on us. He was working in another studio on a Lonnie Donnegan tribute album, and there were luminaries coming and going all day, doing guest appearances, including Clapton, George Harrison, et al. I enjoyed talking with George Martin about his YELLOW SUBMARINE score. He was so gracious and handsome; definitely the genius behind The Beatles!

It was sunny when I woke up, now it's cloudy.

There's a new revival of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN in London with an orchestra of 4 pianos! As if the poster isn't frightening enough, I cannot imagine paying ticket prices to sit in a theatre and hear a show played by 4 upright pianos. It must sound at best like LES NOCES without the brilliance of Stravinsky and the percussion or at worast like a really manic rehearsal. I thought the 2 pianos in the last revival of MOST HAPPY FELLA sounded like I was seeing a tech runthru, but 4 pianos seems desperate. So much for declining theatre economcs.
Speaking of which, a poster on "All that chat" whom I know gave me a nice comment in his rundown on the first FR preview. This prompted a whining "why aren't they using the original orchestrations" post from a jerk I think may be a previous HHW poster who only lurks these days. I don't remember the moron's previous user nanme, but I may start referring to him as Miss Information since he's constantly out in left field in his pronouncements.

We're off to see the matinee of LORENZO at NYMF at 1. It's the musical about the librettist of so many of Mozart's operas.
Thank you so much for the anniversary wishes. individual thanks will follow between LORENZO and LORD OF THE RINGS, and yes indeed some assorted tax returns, but this is such a warm and giving place both in times of happiness and times of adversity.
-
Condolences to vixmom from all of us.

TOD: I liked a lot of the Beatles stuff when it came out, but only a handful of things would I count as favorites. off the top of my head and in no order:
Julia
Martha My Dear
In My Life
Girl
I Will
Mr. Kite
She's Leaving Home
Blackbird
Norwegian Wood
Here, There and Everywhere
Fool on the Hill

HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO
FRED AND SKIP!
I can't wait to see what you have planned for the 25Th.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
"Let It Be"
"Michele"
"Strawberry Fields"
"The Fool On the Hill" - I still remember a trio of girls singing this in unison during a talent show when I was in 6th grade.
"Penny Lane" - It's all about that piccolo trumpet solo.
"In My Life"
"Blackbird"
"Eleanor Rigby" - Love that string arrangement.
-

Actually, librettist of three Mozart operas: DON GIOVANNI, COSI FAN TUTTE, and LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Lorenzo da Ponte ended up migrating to America. I believe he died in Philadelphia. He was also a good friend of Casanova.
-
Thank You, DR elmore. It will definitely be a quick trip - I'll basically be down there for just 24 hours. However, I'm also planning on attending my college piano teacher's annual faculty recital. -I haven't seen nor heard her in years! I'll probably cry as soon as she steps onto the stage. And it looks like I'll be heading down next weekend too since a friend of mine is playing with the Richmond Symphony in the newly remodeled and renovated Carpenter Center.

RAIN is probably the ultimate Beattles tribute band. They have been around for probably twenty years or more. They do all the different eras of The Beatles from the beginning through the Sgt. Pepper era and Abbey Road. With all the lights and sound, they are pretty incredible.

Supposedly, Casanova is the lyricist of some lines in either DON GIOVANNI or COSI FAN TUTTE, I forget which.

I am not much of a fan of the Beatles, though some of their songs are fun. For a favorite I would choose The Long and Winding Road. It is certainly very pretty.
When I was young, in my neck of the world, The Beatles (Les Scarrabés) were considered "evil" (You know, those guys with long hair ...) and since my knowledge of the English tongue was quite limited ....

I was not a Beatles fan. In high school, my best friend Lulu (Lolo in The Book) was indeed a Beatles fan and screamed along with the others. This was not for me. It wasn't until several years later when, sans screaming, I actually heard how lovely and brilliant the Beatles' music was.
-
Thank you, Jane.

Back from the long jog and the Hollywood Show (as it's now called). I'd guess Ray Courts is now completely out of the equation, since this was the first time he wasn't there at all (even after he sold the show he was there as an advisor). As to the show, it just gives me a headache now. Several long time dealers are no longer there. The ones who are left are pathetic. Now not only are the celebrities in the inside room, but they line every inch of the lobby and it's just too many and too confusing as to who is where, and when there are lines you'd really never find people. I did say hello to neighbor Earl Holliman. And I did buy Stan Freberg's autobiography, which he signed to me. He looks very frail (he's eighty-two) where as Jackie Cooper, who must be well into his 90s, looks pretty good. In the most shocking department, Sharon Farrell, who was so ridiculously cute and who now wins the Margot Kidder award for someone who does not in any way resemble their former selves. Helen Slater looks great, and Debby Boone still looks very pretty. Jeff Conaway is using a walker and looks nothing like he used to - and I believe he's younger than I am. Billy Mumy looks like he always did. Didn't see Debbie Reynolds but did spy Mickey Rooney, who just gives off such a weird vibe. Jane Withers looked like she's looked for the last thirty years. Bruce Dern looks pretty good. Biggest line - Sean Astin. And I have to imagine Mr. Cassidy will have a huge line tomorrow - so I don't know that I'll go back because I doubt I could get near him to say hey. And frankly, the whole show seems like a circus and has none of the charm it once had, and it gives me the creeps a little and also a headache.

I shall now drink some water and wait for friend Nick Redman to drop by.

Need to catch up on yesterday's posts.......................................

Just had lunch... About to pack, but first...
DR MattH - As for "FlashForward" - I think the question that is raised is whether or not their visions of the future already take into account any second guessing and attempts to change the future.
Well, it hasn't been explained to MY satisfaction, hence my questioning and confusion.
-
Good afternoon!
Got back a little while ago from my overnight trip. Pleased to say I suffered no discomfort from the long car trip, sitting in the theater for two hours, or sleeping in a bed other than my own.
-
Larry, we can talk or communicate on Monday regarding plans before the show.
-
However, I'm also planning on attending my college piano teacher's annual faculty recital. -I haven't seen nor heard her in years! I'll probably cry as soon as she steps onto the stage.
Why?
Is her piano playing that bad?!
-
The Fox Blu-rays never did come, so I didn't have any work related projects pressuring me from having a good time on my trip. I did get WINGS OF DESIRE (the DVD version) today in the mail, but it's not going to be released until the first week of November, so it went to the bottom of the Criterion pile. I'll likely work on MONSOON WEDDING on Blu-ray tomorrow jsut so the stack of Criterions isn't so large.
-
THE SHADOW BOX was an ambitious play for them to choose and attempt to perform without first rate talent across the board. It wasn't a very successful show, but there were good elements in it, so I'm glad I saw it.
I wouldn't mind seeing that TV-movie version of it again. It must be close to 30 years since I saw it.
-
Happy Anniversary, DR FJL!!!
-
Since I have this evening free, I'll attempt to watch some of the many shows built up on my DVR from last night. I also recorded THE FOUR FEATHERS (the 1930s version) from TCM Friday morning. Believe it or not, I've never seen this movie and will watch it at some point tonight or tomorrow.

How did Bruce Kimmel look like?
Pretty good, I am sure! ;)
Well, Jeff Conaway is my age, even though a few months younger, hence younger than BK (But, obviously not as "wiser"!)...
I checked the internet and found that he has had BIG problems with drugs and booze!
Always sad to read.
In that regard, i saw a few recent interviews of Jan-Michael Vincent and I could not help but cry!
They say he was the Brad Pitt of his time; well, he's not anymore and it is so distressing to see what alcoolism does to human beings. He looks like a very old dejected man ...
-
Yes, there are these poster children for abusing drugs and alcohol. They spend their lives doing so, believing it will never catch up to them, but it does, Blanche, it does. If you saw Conaway now you would just be shocked.
-
I think one of the reasons I look okay and not like a decrepit old man is that I have never once had a drug and I don't drink.
-
DR Matt H, glad you had a good [& trouble-free] trip.
Thank you, DR DAW. Needless to say, it was a tremendous relief for me. Three months ago, I truly felt my traveling days were over. I couldn't even drive two blocks to the grocery store without serious pain.
-
I am heading down now to unpack my travel bag, and then I will settle in for some TV veg-out time.
WBBL.
-
Dear friend Shauna Hicks (whom we originally met by referral from BK) just put her reel on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwtv4ZQ4oMc
If you have a chance to watch it and rate it if you love her reel as much as I do, it would be so great.
-
I lost my thank you list. It must be in some tax return info somewhere. :)
I'll find it and until I find it, thanks so much for all the anniversary wishes.
-
Larry, we can talk or communicate on Monday regarding plans before the show.
Of course!
-
Good Afternoon!
Greetings from the New Century Bus. Journey on...
-
Larry - Thanks for clearing that up about Lorenzo! That it's only three collaborations is clear in the show.
-
Safe travels, Jose!
-
Thanks for all the Travel Vibes. So far, so good: there's hardly anyone on this bus. I get two seats to myself.
-
As for Jeff Conaway, I guess bk does not watch "Celebrity Rehab", or whatever that show on VH1 is called. Scary and depressing.
-
I <3 Shauna Hicks!

OOPS!
TRAVEL VIBES TO DAW!!!
(Sorry i missed you, David.)
-
And thanks, David, for all the vibes.
-
Happy Anniversary, Fred & Skip.
Did the LORENZO musical say anything about him plagiarizing (or, more nicely, borrowing) large swaths of DON GIOVANNI?
-
Vibes to Jeanne.
-
Just posted by Doctoral Thesis, otherwise known as the review that would not end, to the big new boxed set of SNOW WHITE. Oy.
-
Must try to get through these Warner catalog titles, WILLY WONKA, GHOST SHIP, and THE NUMBER 23, before we leave for Wisconsin. BBL.
-
Vibes to Jeanne.
Thank you, JMK.
-
Vibes to Jeanne from us, too.
-
Can't find my thank-you list so I'll have to reconstruct it. (And I had some witty stuff :) on there, too.)
But for now, off to the LORD OF THE RINGS concertized version. Turns out it's 300 musicians, including the chorus, not 300 orchestra members. But it's still a lot of musicians, though.
-
Conaway looked much worse than those "now" photos.
-
I never met Miss Hicks, but I enjoyed her tremendously in BLOOD BROTHERS.
-
Shayne's lovely review of my novel is now up at amazon. Check it out.

Happy anniversary to FJL and Skip. 8) 8)
-
I shall now be on my way to sup with the Jones.
-
BK, did you spot William Reynolds at the Hollywood show?
Star of THING THAT COULDN'T DIE, THE BIG BEAT, and THE LAND UNKNOWN.
-
Condolences to Vixmom. :'(
-
Dear MattH, glad you had a nice mini vacation. :)
-
Lots of good vibes for Jeanne. ;D
-
Night all.
Off to a neighborhood revisiting prop 8 in 2010 / 2012 ballot discussion. I'll be surprised if any pro prop 8 neighbors live here.
-
THANKS FOR ALL THE VIDEOS AND LINKS. ALWAYS ENJOY THEM.
-
Had a marvelous evening of film and TV viewing.
I began with last night's MEDIUM, a somewhat different outing for the show in that the bad guy pretty much got away with his crimes. SOme interesting touches to the show, and the "Joe-looking-for-a-job" with help from Bridget was fun and involving.
-
Dear MattH, glad you had a nice mini vacation. :)
I did, and the one day away was just right. I still have SO much to do here house-wise. But it was nice to let it go for a day and night.
-
Next I watched last night's GHOST WHISPERER. They REALLY drew out the BIG reveleation concerning Eli's parents (a bit too much in order to pad out the episode), but it was still an entertaining hour.
-
Then I watched IDIOT'S DELIGHT from the Warner Archive collection. It's an old VHS master, and the first third is low on contrast and with lots of speckles, scratches, and reel change markers. Thing improve later in terms of grayscale, but the sound is hissy throughout. Still, I hadn't seen the movie all the way through in a long, long time, so I was glad to see it again. Norma Shearer really does a grand job in it. 1939 ended up being a banner year for her with this and THE WOMEN to her credit. Sadly, it was the last year she had big hits to her credit.
-
And I ended my evening by watching, yet again, the Blu-ray of THE WIZARD OF OZ. I again watched it all the way through and just marveled at its color and magic. I never tire of it.
-
Page Seven Dance!!!
-
I seem to keep missing Jeanne. I just wanted her to know that I continue to send hugs, vibes, and prayers for her improving health!

-
Matt H., I am glad that you had a pain-free mini vacation.
-
Matt H., I am glad that you had a pain-free mini vacation.
Thank you, DR TCB. I really appreciate good health now and will NEVER ever take mine for granted again.
-
Now I guess I'm going to tidy up a few things in the office and then head downstairs to bed. I slept OK last night, but I'm looking forward to an even more comfortable night's sleep tonight.
Good night!
-
Thanks for the HHW-patented travel vibes! Smooth sailing all the way. Now ensconced in the Twin Cities!!
-
I am back from another performance of FR. The friends I thought I was meeting at the stage door didn't show so I stood around and watched the cast sign posters and programs. On my way home I stopped at McDonalds for a filet'o fish and caught the end of IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, a show I love because of its cast of completely moronic, repellent, irredeemable characters.
-
This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:

Today is the 20th anniversary of our first date. In honor of that, I've arranged for a presentation on the giant screen at Radio City Music Hall of one of Skip's all-time favorite films (Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring) to be accompanied by a 300-plus-piece orchestra. I've also arranged for there to be about 6,000 other audience members whom we don't know there tonight as well, just to provide some atmosphere; they've been instructed not to acknowledge our anniversary, nor are they to sing the Flintstones' Happy Anniversary song.
Congrats and Happy First Date Anniversary, Fred and Skip!!
-
Happy wedding day to Vixmom's brother!
Ditto!! ;D
-
Topic of the Day: I was never really a fan of the Beatles, so I don't have a favorite album. However, there are some individual songs that I like:
Eleanor Rigby
Help
In My Life
Penny Lane

Although (according to the article), "'there is a legislative process' and progress can't happen overnight," Obama reaffirms will end 'don't ask, don't tell.' (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20091010/US.Obama.Gays/)

I had jotted down witty pithy comments that i now can't find, so I'll just say thanks for the lovely 20th anniversary wishes to DAW, Jrand, Michael S, Ginny. td. Larry, Amy, MBarnum, Kerry, Miss Karen, Ben, Jane, Jose, bk, TCB, Jennifer, Jeanne, Laura, MattH, Sam and George. Hope I didn't forget anyone!

Good Evening!
Greetings from Richmond!

Yep! I was following the tweets from tonight's HRC Dinner in Washington, DC. No timeline yet, but at least some more Hope.
*My favorite "tweet" of the night courtesy/via Bravo's Andy Cohen (a.k.a. @BravoAndy):
Obama: "it's a privilege to open for lady gaga. I've made it"
:)

Thanks for the HHW-patented travel vibes! Smooth sailing all the way. Now ensconced in the Twin Cities!!
Will you be making a return visit to the Mall of American this trip?
-
And speaking of Twitter, the following incident occurred at tonight's performance of "Love, Loss & What I Wore" - Nora and Delia Ephron's new off-Broadway show:
Worst audience incident EVER at LL&WIW, woman sitting in the front row had a colostomy bag that broke and leaked onto the woman next to her.
:-\
-
So...
Apparently, my Dad has to go to traffic school tomorrow. However, it's not related to the accident they were in last Tuesday... Nor is it related to another subsequent moving violation. Hmmm...
-At least we're all laughing about it.
-
I am back from another performance of FR.
And how was the show tonight, DR elmore? Did those two bits of magic reappear? And how was the audience? And the cast (on their first two-show day)?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!! :)

DR FJL - I just read Skip's Facebook Status - WOW!!!!! Did you arrange to sit behind Howard Shore too?
-
DR MBarnum - The next time you come to New York City, I think you need to hail the cabbie we had last night, Ali Shadiq. Since we had to travel from down in the East Village all the way up to Washington Heights, we had plenty of time to get to know him. He was a blast! Truly one of the best cab rides I've ever had.

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
I'd make a joke/comment about a "lonely goat herd", but I'm not sure that's a goat. ;)
-
Well, I'm a bit road-weary, tired, sleepy, and I have to get up in a few hours to drive my father to class...
Goodnight.
-
Jose - That was an astonishing surprise, and there was a little added bonus of watching Howard Shore watch his music being performed by 300 musician mixed in with watching the show.
-
It's a juvenile desert bighorn sheep.

Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner with the Jones folks. Many things were discussed.
-
I am quite irked right now. She of the Evil Eye was here today and therefore did the laundry. My sleeping shorts, which are really comfy and which I've been wearing for the last four years are not in their usual drawer, and are, in fact, nowhere to be found. I have another pair that I don't like nearly as well, but I guess I won't be solving this mystery for two weeks. I even looked in the trash to see if she'd thrown them out for some reason, but no, nothing is out there. I've run out of drawers to look through - they're nowhere.
-
That's too bad about your sleeping shorts, BK. I hope you find them soon. I hate it when I can't sleep comfortably.
-
I want my SLEEPING SHORTS!
