Title: THE MISSING SHORTS
Post by: bk on October 11, 2009, 12:01:13 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were mysterious, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - perhaps they've taken my sleeping shorts.

BK, about your sleeping shorts:

Did you look in the dryer? Or in the washing machine? The shorts may have been inadvertently left there and thus never made it to any of the drawers.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm having breakfast at Shoney's. In other words, I shall be taking a nap once I'm back at my parents' house. ;)

I haven't eaten at a SHoney's breakfast bar in ages, but I remember when I did go there, I always regretted it because I ate WAY too much and always felt like I was going to explode on my way out the door.

Good morning!

Clouds have moved back in, and it's cooler than the last two days which is nice. Hope it stays like this for a little while. I like cool without being cold.

I'm going to go ahead and do the Blu-ray of MONSOON WEDDING today just so the stack of Criterions doesn't get too high. If the Fox Blu-rays come tomorrow, I will do one of them on Monday. If not, I'll have Monday off.
Title: Re: THE MISSING SHORTS

And, of course, no USPS tomorrow; a Monday holiday. The newspaper said that UPS will be running tomorrow, and the Fox Blu-rays do come via UPS, so I could still get them tomorrow.

I'll likely watch Friday night's PSYCH while I eat lunch. I also still have LAW & ORDER, MONK, and THE OFFICE to watch.

MONSOON WEDDING will take part of the afternoon, but I've seen and written up the bonus features already, so it won't take much time today with the work.

Looking in the dryer was going to be my suggestion, too, DR MATTH.

Your posts from yesterday also made me want to see THE SHADOW BOX again.  I have always wanted to do the show - but it's time seems to have passed for a lot of local theaters.  The subject is a downer - although the play isn't....well....

I am going to head down now and get laundry ready for washing. Then, I'll likely watch Friday's LAW & ORDER. When it's over, it'll be time to start thinking about what's for lunch.

Back to sleep for me.

And back to the park today to sit in the sunshine and finish the book, and maybe buy something else from the Rotary Club Arts and Crafts Faire.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, all! I didn't get out of bed till 9:15 and in the last 90 minutes I have cleaned up the bathroom, since the ceiling continues to fall in bits of wet plaster, and mopped the floor, listened to the neighbor above me with the dog have noisy sex again - the first time was around 2 a m this morning - and when I see him, I'm going to suggest he look for a new bed that's quieter. I've also written, and sent, an invoice and the laundry is in the washers. I need to make a trip to the corner pharmacy for some Icy Hot Patches and razor blades, and then I have a quiet day here until arounbd 3 pm, when I head downtown to see the Chase Brock Dance Company.
http://chasebrockexperience.com/

My friend Bruce Pomahac is a big fan of his work, and he's recommended Chase to choreograph several Rodgers & Hammerstein projects. I'm looking forward to the performance. It's in a godforsaken area of Manhattan for me to get to easily from the Upper West Side, so, with all the subway madness this weekend, I want towant to allow myself plenty of time to get there.

Managed to get through WILLY WONKA and write most of that up last night.  Just need screencaptures now.  Then watched GHOST SHIP, which was fun if totally predictable.  Started THE NUMBER 23 which at least has Virginia Madsen (I'm trying to accentuate the positive).  Must get these three done and hopefully the 6 disc Nat Geo High Def Collection also by the time we leave for sunny (?) Wisconsin in a few days.

I haven't gotten to watch this week's GHOST WHISPERER or MEDIUM yet. Although i did watch this week's THE MENTALIST. I loved it. And i had an idea near the end who was involved. But did not catch on to "the plan". But it was a very different episode (in that one of the team was involved).

Tonight we have TAR! Yeah!

MattH, etc. - the first place I looked after discovering they weren't in the drawer where she always puts the shorts was the dryer - in, behind, to the side, and then the washing machine, too.  The only stuff in the dryer were her rags that she uses, and I even went through those twice.  I looked in every drawer, in every cupboard, and in every closet, and even where she keeps her cleaning stuff - and couldn't find them.

I guess I slept in today - I think I must have gotten up just before ten, and my head was swimming with stuff so I made two pages of notes so I wouldn't forget anything.  They're also doing a garage sale across the street, so it's a little noisy out there and all the parking spaces are taken - plus it's really gray out, even looks like it could rain.
Title: Re: THE MISSING SHORTS

DR MattH - There was a time when I could go back for plate after plate after plate of food at Shoney's, well, at any buffet for that matter.  Thankfully(!?), those days or over.  I probably could have saved a dollar or two this morning if I had just ordered something off the menu.  However, since there were about four tables of bikers in the restaurant this morning - I think they were on their way to the State Fair - the turnover on the buffet was quite frequent.  I guess it takes a lot of food to ride a hog.  ::)

DR elmore - Just take the 1 or the C to Columbus Circle, then (wait and) transfer to a D train there.  -And the D train is running express this weekend from 59th to W. 4th so, it's not too long a trip to Grand.  -However, probably a crowded train.  -And be sure to check which trains are running local for your return uptown.  *And just remember that that Grand Street stop is usually a madhouse with all the Chinatown- and Little Italy-bound straphangers.

OK...

I guess I should get ready for the rest of my day.  My college piano professor, Dr. Sonia Vlahcevic - also and affectionately known as "Dr. V.", is giving a recital this afternoon.  I haven't seen nor heard her in a few years, and I'm really looking forward to this afternoon's recital.  -And, I'm guessing, that she'll probably be hosting her own recital-reception again too.  In any case, I want to get to VCU a little early to walk around for a bit before I head to the concert hall.  I've always loved The Fan in the Fall.

I watched Friday's LAW & ORDER this morning. A good episode with lots of complications for the D.A. since the police were involved in what turned out to be a terrorist act.

I have to say, however, that the actress they used for the defense attorney was probably the WORST actress I've ever seen on LAW & ORDER in that role of defender. She was atrocious!

Next I watched MONSOON WEDDING on Blu-ray. The colors are really lush, and parts of it looked stunning in HD, but there are focus issues with the original photography, and in HD, the softness seems even more pronounced since other shots are so razor sharp. Sounds is DTS-HD MA 5.1, so the music had a nice heft to it.

I ended the afternoon watching one of the less interesting NCIS episodes from last season, one that focused on Rocky Carroll's new director character as he took on the case of investigating an old friend who was murdered in Chicago. The identity of the killer was pretty anticlimactic as we never even got to interview the character.

On TV cop/detective shows, I can almost always spot the killer within the first 5-10 minutes.  I just ask myself: "Why would this character be there if he wasn't the killer".

The other big giveaway is if the episode has a "name" guest star.  99 times out of 100 they will be the killer.

DR TD, I have to admit that I was unable to get through that naked ERCOLE opera. I didn't find the guy playing Ercole to be very appealing, so the whole naked actor aspect was not as enjoyable as I had thought it would be....and most of the male characters sounded like women.

I will stick with Steve Reeves and Mark Forest movies, I guess.

If the writing is ingenious, I can be fooled (which is why I continue watching all of these procedurals). And when the cast has great camaraderie (BONES, CASTLE, THE MENTALIST, NCIS), there's pleasure to be founbd in their interpersonal relationships even if the mystery is lacking.

I'm home from what was a great vacation!  Sundee and I had a fabulous time at Taliesin yesterday.  It was cold and we had to bundle up, but we hung in there for the whole 4 hour tour. Including over 1 1/2 hours outside.  It was definitely worth every penny. The tour guide was one of the best I've ever seen.

It was also great to get to spend so much time with my nephew, Adam and great nephew Gabe.  Gabe was just a delight.

I'm glad I drove Mom and Dad out there. we all had a good time. It took me from 8:00 AM to 3:30 Pm to get home.  (including lunch and dropping off mom and dad).  It's been a long day.  The girls were very happy to see me and all seems well here

Even though I'd rather see Michigan win, losing a close game is OK.  Just so they don't make a habit of it.  The team we're really watching around here is the University of Cincinnati - their 6'7" quarterback is amazing - Go Bearcats!

Maybe it got stuck to something else she washed.  Maybe it was never washed (could it be in a hamper). Maybe she thought they looked comfortable. :)

I don't know that she would necessarily know where they are unless she put them somewhere else. I would just look around the places she might have put down the laundry. Maybe it fell off the pile.

I went into it expecting a more 'serious' take on myths and legends, and instead I got what I found to be a delightful opera buffa.  I really like Vivaldi as a composer, so the music was merrier and more mirthful than I had expected.
Also, I liked the tenors and certainly one of would have been quite an eyeful as Ercole.
But, as they say, "Different strokes" and "That's what makes horse-racing."
Today, in between Boyzone tunes, I have been listening to the Ercole recording.

I know what you mean. A close game is really fun to watch and everyone leaves knowing it could have gone either way.  Much easier to keep your head held high.    The Hawks are undefeated after 6 games for the first time since 1985 - my last year in law school at Iowa.  It's getting fun to watch them again

I think he saw a lot of it during our Varese Sarabande days.

I am back from The Chase Brock Experience, and I enjoyed much of it. He's a very talented choreographer and his dancers were excellent. I'm still pondering the main piece, "American Sadness," which I think I admired more than I liked. DR MBarnum would have liked the naked dancer who showered and did not sing.

Like DR td, I liked some of the other guys in the ERCOLE opera more than I did Ercole proper.

I watched Mr Gordon Mitchell in Atlas Vs the Cyclops and Mr Reg Lewis is The Fire Monsters vs the Sons of Hercules.

Mr Mitchell certainly as BLUE eyes in his movie, although most of the other Eastman Color has turned pink or brown.  And Mr Lewis had red/blonde hair.

Interesting movies.

Missing Shorts are not in the hamper.  Last night, I also went through the towels to see if they'd somehow gotten mixed up there, and, as I said, all drawers.  I suppose I could take the comforter cover off and see if they somehow got in there but it's really doubtful - I could also take the bedding apart and see if they're there, but I kind of felt around the sheets and didn't feel anything.  I looked under the bed, too.  Nada.

Got some fun things watched tonight. I began with PSYCH. There were some good laughs in this werewolf story (I guess it was supposed to be the Halloween episode, but since the show finishes its fall season next Friday, I guess they just went ahead and ran it now.) Not much of a mystery, but fun to see David Naughton in a werewolf story since he starred as a VERY famous werewolf all his own.

It was sort of interesting(?) when I was running into people earlier.  Almost everyone seemed quite surprised to see me.  They were all pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless.  -I guess it had been a while since my last appearance in the VCU Music Building.

My teacher, Dr. V., was also pleasantly surprised to see me.  However, at the reception, she not only introduced me to some of her current students and friends as "one of the most talented students" she's ever had, she also said that I was "looking handsome".  <blush>

Enjoyed tonight's episode of DEXTER, too. I was sure I knew who the neighborhood vandal was, but I was mistaken. I liked the way Dexter resolved that problem. Too bad he didn't have his syringe with him!

From the link Jose posted:

"Singing also seems to be an issue for John Stamos, who has an impressive ability to hit notes outside the chromatic scale, production sources say."

Isn't that what they say about Darlene Edwards?

But Darlene was a genius!

So, exactly how do people who cannot sing get cast in Broadway shows?

And please, when you answer that, remember that this is a family site.

Do we think the tonsillitis is the same as the Pal Joey situation?

Do we think the tonsillitis is the same as the Pal Joey situation?

I wondered the same thing... But since at least two or three members of the ensemble have been out sick - really sick - for the past week and a half... Well...  But maybe some of the "boards" know the real scoop. Or at least the presumed real scoop.

;D

However...

I have been a part of two productions where there was an actor who had a great audition, did very well in the callbacks, but then once the rehearsals started, we all realized that what we saw the actor do and give during the audition process was all that actor had to give.  Last minute cast changes - whether by necessity or otherwise - are never a good thing for the company as a whole. Tension. Tension. Tension.

...And then there was a production where the casting breakdown for the audition notice was put together by someone in the office who didn't really "know" the show.  Consequently, when the vocal breakdown and ranges were listed, they were almost too literal since the all the women in the show had to sing within a certain range of notes, however, not all of those parts "lived" within the same range of notes.  And since the show was cast without a musical director in the room, well...

-And, yes, that does happen from time to time too.  More often than anyone would ever admit to.

I think I'll finish the show, take a shower, and then just relax and cruise the Internet and maybe write a little bit more of the liner notes, which I will have to finish by Tuesday so I can start the next one.

There was a big stink concerning rumors about a certain director's casting couch when he took over SCARLET PIMPERNEL several years ago and he's currently directing the show in question.

And I'm (still) sort of surprised that the "mess" that the director-in-question had with Actor's Equity a couple of years ago seems to have abated.  Or something like that.

If Mr Irwin is flummoxed by the rhythms of "Kids" - and since I've done the show - and will be doing it again in August, I can understand that - somebody for God's sake give him a CD of the OBC!

It's my experince with Bill tyhat it isn't the lyrics causing the problem; it's singing in rhythm that's the problem. I did TONIGHT AT 8:30 with him.

DR JRand - Thank You.

*I've been trying to remember the last time I saw Dr. V., and I think it might have been just before I made the move to NYC. So, about four and a half years ago, I guess. What's even more sobering(?) is that I started studying with her 23 years ago... And I was anywhere from 25-30 pounds heavier then too.

I never got the specifics, but it basically had to do with rehearsing an Equity company on non-Equity time. Or vice versa. If you track his directing credits, you'll notice a "gap" in his timeline, as well as a bump in more non-Broadway and overseas work.

There is a bug bite on the back of my neck. I think it is from one of those humongous spiders I keep seeing into in my yard. I hate them!

Those things are so darn plump...I think I know where those missing cats ended up...and maybe the across the street neighbors, who I have not seen in days.
