Well, you've read the notes, the notes led the way, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently leading the way to who knows where.

BK,

You commented that She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's Avatar reminds you of Edith head - Well it should: it is the image of Edna Mode from the Animated Film "The Incredibles" which was intended to be a caricature of Head.

DR Ben - So... How early do you think you'll be finishing tomorrow? I really was hoping to make it down there last week, but, as I alluded to earlier, I've been in research mode the past couple of days. In any case...

I really do admire the work that you and Ant and the rest of the volunteers do around this time of the year. On behalf of some of my friends past and present who benefit from your generosity, "Thank You".

We begin around 10am and will probably be done sometime around 1:30 or 2pm.  If you can make it, great, if not, unfortunately, there is always next next year.

One of our dear friends, who is a client of Actors Fund, receives a bag every year and he always tells us how much it means to him to receive the contents. It makes the whole time worthwhile.

And again, a big thank you to Kevin for jumping in yesterday as a newbie and emerging as a Hero member, even if his numbers don't show it yet.

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'm up early today to get some puttering done here at home before going out to help Mom pick out the new carpet they're going to install in her home-to-be.  She's color blind and has always depended on others to help with big color decisions.  We'll also take the measurements of her furniture along and try to get some idea of what will go where.

Good morning, all! Today, after the move to a new law firm, this is my first day back to the McGlinnventory in some time. We're now at Park Avenue and 23rd Street, which means a subway to 23rd and a crosstown bus from Seventh Avenue to Park. Following that, I need to stop at Toyland at 6th and 27th to pick up a book from my desk, and then I am off to MTI at 54th and 10th to drop off the remainder of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA score.

I'm currently proofing the Moross score to RACHEL RACHEL, which I hope to finish today or tomorrow, and then I move back to his Civil War show, GENTLEMEN BE SEATED. I need to win the lottery big time so I can do recordings of this show and THE GOLDEN APPLE. He's too good a composer to be unperformed or unlistened.

I'd love to have a Winston Churchill autograph.  I think he was the greatest man of the 20th century.

I do, however, have a Simon Wiesentahal, who I greatly admire.

Among my many most cherished show biz signatures are autographed lobby cards of Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Orson Welles, Clark Gable, Randolph Scott, Ronald Reagan, John Garfield, a LC from STAGE DOOR signed by Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers and Lucille Ball, a LC from KISS ME KATE signed by Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, Ann Miller and Tommy Rall, etc.

I also have some sheet music, signed by George M. Cohan, Al Jolson, Fred Astaire, Maurice Chevalier, etc.

>>>haven’t had that in a while, but whilst we were having fun, one “person” had to show up and do her business. And that’s all I’ll say, because she obviously gets off on having the attention.

Hi, Bruce!

Not at all. If a "certain person" hadn't mentioned my name  here, I wouldn't have had to post anything.  You dont' want me to post here, don't mention my name here.

As for getting off on the attention -- pot, kettle, black.

I mean, come on.... someone starts putting signed postcards in books and all of a sudden it's your idea?  And you want them to tell every single person who buys such a book that it was the idea of the great Bruce Kimmel?  It is to laugh!

Couple of days ago you posted that YouTUbe URL to the Brain. Not enough people waxed rhapsodic about it...so you post it the next day!  Then people realize you're a bit ticked off, and t hey rush in to say good things about it...

Not enough people wax rhapsodic about your new CD...so you complain about it and then of course your friends wag their heads ruefully and say, Jeez, he's off again, I'd better go praise it.

Heck, I'm sure the CD is just great...but do you really think anyone would have the nerve to say otherwise?

You and your pecedillos are well known, and thought of fondly, I"m sure.

I did a LOT of autograph collecting back in the early 1990s...and of course, continue to do so whenever I am able to attend the Hollywood Collectors show in Burbank.

Among my most favorite autographs are Dorothy Neumann, June Kenney, Pamela Duncan, Penny Singleton, and Gordon Mitchell. Actually all of my in-person autographs mean a great deal to me. One of these days I will scan them and show them off.

I have a script from the first season of LAW & ORDER: SVU which is signed by all of the cast regulars then (which means Dean Winters' name is there but Ice-T is not, thank goodness).

I've got Patty Duke's signature around here somewhere, done when she was doing her television series (I was a big fan).

And lots of Playbills with signatures - Ann Miller in MAME and Brian Stokes Mitchell in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN come to mind immediately.

I don't collect autographs, persay, but have hundreds of autographed books, many by favourite authors.  Two favourite autographs are a letter I have by H. Rider Haggard (author of SHE and KING'S SOLOMON'S MINES) and an autographed copy of the Knight's Code that I wrote for DRAGONHEART which was Sir John Gielgud's working copy which he used when he played the Voice of King Arthur in the movie.  It has his notes on it, lightly pencilled in, and is inscribed to me from him.

I have lots and lots of interesting autographs from various and sundried people.  Of course I have many Frances autographs, which belies the commonly accepted myth that she never signed anything.  I even have some interesting "group" autographs with her, and in fact some "Group" (Theatre) autographs, LOL, including several pieces of sheet music signed by her and her co-stars like Cary Grant, Bing Crosby, Jon Hall, etc.  (Unfortunately World Premiere had no title tune, hence no group auto with her and Barrymore ;)  ).  I also have her autograph on some interesting paraphenalia, including her 1935 passport, a beautiful big pastel portrait done for the Washington Post when Golden Boy was on tour, and a bunch of the Golden Boy Playbills (one of them interestingly also signed by 20th Century Fox's Arlene Whelan, who was never in the play, at least that I can tell).

In the political world, due to my father's prominence, I have a ton of senator and governor autographs.  Plus, as I've probably mentioned before, I have a personalized letter and signed picture from none other than Richard M. Nixon.  Unfortunately 18 words are missing from the letter, so it's a bit hard to decipher.  ;)

TOD - My souvenir program book from my first Broadway show - original cast Cabaret - was autographed at the stage door in 1967 by 4 of the 5 principals:  Joel Grey, Lotte Lenya, Jack Gilford, Bert Convy.  We missed Jill Haworth because we didn't recognize her - as Sally she had short dark hair and in real life she had long blonde hair.  I took the same program book to a touring Cabaret at Cincinnati's Music Hall in the mid-1980s and Joel Grey re-autographed it.

I went to the US Post Office this morning to mail a couple of CD's.

I mailed a CD and card to a friend I worked with at the Dept of Labor for many years.  I mailed a card to my friend Richard who lives in Hillsdale, NY, I mailed the MISS SAIGON book back even though I haven't been sent any postage money yet, AND a mailed a CD and two lumps of coal in a nice red bag to my sister Molly.

It was not crowded.  There was a youngish woman waiting next to me.  The clerk returned and told her she had 7 change of address cards on file.  I guess a letter had been returned and even though she had her current address in the return area, it had gone to one of her old addresses.  She went crazy and started yelling and said she had only lived in two places in the last year - it was a most loud and obnoxious rant.  And she said she thought "Tony" had taken care of it last time she was in - so that means it had been a problem before.  Who knows how many changes she had and how many addresses she had.  The clerk finally walked away after saying she would see what she could do.  The woman kept ranting and raving as someone who knows she is wrong is wont to do.

THEN at the Dollar General Store, the ladies at the register are glad that Tiger is taking a year off from golf - they think it will help his relationship with his wife - but they are convinced he will do it again.

As for the Topic of the Day...

One of the few autographs that I wish I had would be Matthew Broderick's.  -Mainly because he was the only actor not to come out to the stage door after the first Wednesday matinee during the previews of Biloxi Blues.  My Playbill is signed by everyone but Mr. Broderick.

As for historical figures, if I had something signed by John F. Kennedy, I'm pretty sure I would cherish it greatly.

When I worked as a summer clerk for the Coast Guard, one of my duties was to get the officer promotion certificates signed by the Secretary of Transportation and the President.  I would head over to L'Enfant Plaza, go up to the Secretary's office, and then sit in a closet with a "signature machine" for a few hours. So... *However, any special commendations were sent directly to the desk of the Secretary and the President whenever possible.

There have been another string of weird incidents on the New York City subways over the past few days... Yesterday, a man was killed on the tracks at 110th Street as he tried to retrieve his MP3 player from off the tracks himself.  (Instead of waiting for a station attendant with a long-handled "grab stick".)  And last night, as I was heading back from Queens, there were police above ground at 50th Street and 8th Ave.  They had closed off the station, and had apparently stopped the E Train for a while.  -A friend of mine who was coming in from Queens at the time was kicked off his train at the last stop in Queens.  -I read the reports the about the incident at 110th this morning, but nothing is coming up about what happened at 50th Street. ???

Autographs.   Well, I still wish I had Angela Lansbury's. . .I do have a nice note from her late husband Peter Shaw though.

My first autograph was from Vincent Price, who was doing a lecture at my high school.  He signed his autograph and gave me a big hug.

I treasure the cds which I have had autographed on the Varese/Name-that-Not-Be-Uttered/Kritzerland label, including Jason Graae, Alice Ripley, Michelle Nicastro, Susan Gordon and of course, BK, among others.  Off the top of my head:
Judy Kaye. Karen Morrow, Paige O'Hara, Michael Piontek.  I'm certain there are more.

Betty Buckley, of course.

RE: Barbary Coast

Yes DR MICHAEL S - it's a bit of a mystery.  I shall keep my eye out for a TV GUIDE from that week - none on EBAY right now.  And it should have the network listings for 10/20/58 no matter what local edition it is.

We shall discover what this is all about.  I am sure the world will not rest until we do.

DR JMK I used to watch the BARBARY COAST show you wrote about....I think Dennis Cole was in it....and maybe Rod Taylor.  It was way back in the 20th century.  :D

Shocking news reports DR JOSE.  Be careful out there.  :-\

You could also go to a local library and look up the tv listings for a daily newspaper on microfilm.

Greetings from Toyland!

>>>haven’t had that in a while, but whilst we were having fun, one “person” had to show up and do her business.

I don't think it's my pecedillos (sic) that are in question here - they are yours.  But let's break it down for our dear readers:

First of all, this woman was on a Doctor Who board complaining about ME.  Let's just ponder that for a while.  I've never posted on a Dr. Who board and, in fact, have never seen the show - but she goes on there and posts about ME.  O-kay.

Second of all, if a book dealer from out of town had begun putting signed cards in books, maybe I wouldn't have mentioned it.  Since it's a local dealer, and one I know well, and one to whom this site is known - I don't think it's much of a leap to figure it out.  Of course, that doesn't suit your peculiar pecedillos (sic).

Third off, I re-posted the URL to the Brain clip because I think the clip is adorable, not for people to post things.  Some people are too busy to occasionally see all the posts and therefore I occasionally re-post things.  You really are a bit insane, I think.

Fourth off, I don't consider the particular CD in question "my" CD - I would post the same thing no matter who released an incredible Elmer Bernstein score or two.  But that doesn't suit your pecedillos (sic).  Anyone who knows me at all (you're not one of them) knows I cheerlead other label's CDs ALL the time.  And yes, on the occasion someone hasn't liked a CD we've issued, they've said so.  And though I know you know this - they're not talking about the quality of the packaging or sound, they're talking about the MUSIC - it may not appeal to everyone.  But that doesn't suit your pecedillos (sic).

Fifth off, I apologize for feeding the troll - she really does follow me around wherever I post - and she really does have a plethora of usernames with which to attempt to cause problems.  But its obvious when it's her - I mean, like when an actor's acting slip is showing, 3DDiffusion's pecedillos (sic) slip is showing.

Sic indeed.  Go away on your own.  Otherwise I'll just make it easy for you to never post here again.

I'll tell you what just occurred to me and which says all that need be said about pecedillos (sic) - Jrand made one comment in a post buried in the middle of a lot of posts - that means that a certain person must read every single post on this board every day.  Seems kind of creepy to me - I'm sure the certain person would say she just finds it all amusing how everyone's pecedillos (sic - and especially mine own) are on display, but that would not tell the story, oh, no, that would not tell the story.  The story is one of obsession and must include a subplot about some perceived slight the certain person must think she received from the likes of me.  That's the only thing that makes sense.  Of course, rather than simply write me about it, she creates many usernames and begins to follow me around the Internet, finding whatever chat boards I occasionally post on, and doing her thing.  But her pecedillo (sic) post speaks for itself and I shall say no more, oh, yes, I shall say no more - EXCEPT - kiss my ASS.

Buddy Hackett was doing a show at the WinterGarden with Eddie Fisher.  One night after the show at the bar,  Eddie's ex Miss Elizabeth Taylor was Topic A.  All the show biz types were saying what they would offer La Liz to appear in one of their motion pictures....a million dollars, a million and a percentage....etc etc.

Mr Hackett said he would offer her "one thousand dollars."  Everyone at the table was aghast and questioned his sanity.  Mr Hackett then replied:  "I would offer her one thousand dollars.  She would say 'Kiss my ass' - and that's all I wanted to begin with. "

I did. I was reading the journals in 2007 and posted about them on June 13, 2007. I wrote:

I have nothing else to report after my second sentence at the moment, but to mention how much I am enjoying Leo Lerman's journals, which I'm reading before going to bed.  I'm reading about Henry VIII on the subways and buses.

Lerman's journals begin in the 1930 and I'm currently in the 1970's.  I didn't know that Maria Callas was one of his best friends from 1955 or so to her death, so I was reading about Callas and the Juilliard master classes, a number of performances he attended, itroducing Marlene Dietrich to Callas, and a lot of fascinating and scandalous gossip:  the best last evening was the Jackie Kennedy-Onassis-Callas triangle and Leo's speculations on how Onassis' predilection for anal sex was affecting his marriage to Jackie.  Mrs Kennedy also became friendly with Lerman, he suspected, out of a desire to keep tabs on Callas, but there in an interesting journal entry on helping Caroline Kennedy with her homework on art and how well-behaved the Kennedy children were.

My late friend Paula Lawrence keeps turning up a lot, and I wish I'd had her introduce me to Leo. We had several friends in common, and I'm enjoying his wit, kindness, and grace as a writer.

OH!  But before I go... For any DRs who may also happen to be on Facebook.  Facebook recently changed their Privacy Settings and Policies.  However, it appears that they've failed to mention - at least up front - one other change, so... -This is from a friend:

To change this option, go to Settings --> Privacy Settings --> Search --> then UN-CLICK the box that says 'Allow indexing'. Facebook kept this one quiet. Copy and paste onto your status for all your friends ASAP."

Depending how you set up your profile, the "Allow Indexing" box may already be un-checked.  In any case..

The important thing to note here is that even though you might not mind having what you've posted on your own Wall to be "indexed", keep in mind that it will also "index" what your friends post on your wall. Check and uncheck accordingly.

Jackie Onassis would also be one I would like. She was a remarkable woman

Topic of the Day:  I am most fortunate to have BK's autographs on quite a few things.  I also was able to get our very own Guy Haines' autograph on his first CD! ;)

I have seen Live and In Person:  Betty Buckley (in Sunset Blvd. on Broadway), Bernadette Peters (in concert, here in Olympia!) and Patti LuPone (in concert, in Seattle) and was able to get each of their autographs!

I also have autographs from all of the members of The Manhattan Transfer.  I bought a couple of different sets of autographs on eBay, but last year, the group performed at Jazz Alley in Seattle and I brought a CD and a couple of DVDs that I was able to send backstage to the group to autograph.  I didn't actually get to meet them, but they signed my DVDs and CD.

Jose actually was able to get the autograph of Laurel Massé, the original soprano and founding member of TMT, for me.  Several years ago, he was dining with (if I remember correctly) Amanda McBroom and Laurel (and maybe Michele Brourman).  I mentioned that I LOVE Laurel Massé and Jose was kind enough to get her autograph on one of his origami papers for me. :-*

Cheryl Bentyne, the current soprano of TMT (for 30 years, now) performed a solo gig with her accompanist/husband at The Triple Door (also in Seattle) a couple of years ago and during the two sets (I stayed for both), she came to the back of the audience area and signed autographs and chatted with everyone.  She recorded Among Friends (http://www.amazon.com/Among-Friends-Cheryl-Bentyne/dp/B00009Y3L7/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1260911175&sr=8-2), an audio-DVD and I brought that for her to sign.  Nobody else there had even heard of this. :D

And the one time that I went to London, my sister, niece and I went to see Kiss Me, Kate with the WSMA Brent Barrett, Marin Mazzie, Nancy Anderson and Michael Berresse, as well as several prominant British musical theater performers.  I got almost everyone's autographs, except Brent's. :P

But the show was fabulous!

I watched a bunch of TV episodes today. I began by watching the remaining two episodes of PERRY MASON from the season 1, volume 1 box set. These shows were definitely shown out of production order since the private telephone on Perry's desk kept changing from episode to episode. One episode had a very obvious murderer. The other was well hidden and ended up being a surprise to me.

Then, I cracked open THE MENTALIST, Season 1 and began watching the episodes in order. I began with the pilot which was made months before the show was given a green light. Everyone looks considerably younger than they look once the show went to series. It's an excellent pilot, however, and very easy to see why the show sold.

We are officially finished with Gift Bag Packing this year. We finished about 1pm. We then broke down everything and returned things to their proper places and Anthony and I returned home. I ate lunch then went to Barnes and Noble to get a "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" calendar for Anthony's father. He enjoys the questions and when we are out there we spend time reading the questions and answers after dinner.

Tomorrow I will try to sleep as late as my body will allow and then I will get a haircut. I may also go to the Union Square Greenmarket.

We have a friend visiting on Friday and we have holiday parties on Saturday and Sunday and the post-Bag Packing Volunteer Party on Monday the 21st then we head out to Long Island for a few days.

I finished everything we didn't finish yesterday, i.e. addressing and prepping customs forms for all the bigger orders - all that's left to do tomorrow is actually put all CDs in packages and then attach postage to only three boxes - everything else is done.  I'm hoping we can do it all, get it to the post office by ten-thirty, and be done by eleven, at which time I'll run the biggest order to UPS and get that on its way.

Back from helping my color-blind mother select carpet for her home-to-be.  Not what I would have chosen, but she was insistent.  We then visited the apartment to take some measurements.  It was all torn up and they were painting, so I left her in the hall.  She has such sensitive lungs, I didn't want her breathing any paint fumes.

Good news:  pool is in great shape.

Bad news:  Got home to my realtor phoning saying the bank had rejected the offer.

Good news:  Realtor was confused why they had listed "inspection and repairs" as reason since the bank had already said they wouldn't make repairs and we had put that in there just to let them know what it was going to cost.

Bad news:  Bank and/or bank's realtor never bothered to look at subsequent pages of our offer, which included an "as is" offer at a reduced price.

Good news?  We'll have to wait and see.

If you could own any autograph in the world, whose would it be and why would that one be the one you’d want?

If I could own any autograph that I don't already have, it would have to be the autograph of the very one, the very only...Mr. Stephen Sondheim.  I have been a fan of his music for many, many, many (that's three manys) years.  I know several people here already have it, but I don't.  Sigh.

You do have an extensive TV Guide collection, don't you!

The other night I came across a box that contained the remnants of my once-huge collection--only a few Christmas week issues and some with Amsel drawn covers.  I have here the 1981 issue for this very week.  Tonight you could have watched a CBS special presentation of LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY with Alec Guinness and Ricky Schroder.   If that wasn't to your tastes, FATHER MURPHY was doing his thing on NBC.

I hope I had cable back then...

OH!  But before I go... For any DRs who may also happen to be on Facebook.  Facebook recently changed their Privacy Settings and Policies.  However, it appears that they've failed to mention - at least up front - one other change, so... -This is from a friend:

"As of today, Facebook will automatically index all your info on Google, which allows everyone to view it.

Check and uncheck accordingly.

i went to do it and this came up:

"Worried about search engines? Your information is safe.
There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. They will still only see a basic set of information."

I don't see "allow indexing" anywhere antwhere!

Oh.. Looks like Facebook changed the wording over the past 24 hours. So...

Click on "Settings" in the upper right-hand corner.
From that drop-down menu, click on "Privacy Settings".
Then click on "Search".
After a FB pop-up about the Privacy Settings, you should see "Public Search Results". There should be a box to the right, "Allow".  Check or uncheck it.

i had the allowed button checked.  you can preview what that shows.  it doesn't seem to be different than what previously appeared so i don't think fb changed anything.

So on the way home I stopped at a Pathmark market to pick up a few things and lo and behold, they were offering H1N1 shots.  I thought, "Why the heck not?" so I filled out the paperwork, forked over $15, bared my manly shoulder and got innoculated. I feel very trendy!

DR JoseSPiano--as a matter of fact, I got the bus for Newark Airport right across from Bryant Park, but I hadn't read your post until just now.   Since I'm not sure about a lot of the inside information yet, what "monkey" are you referring to?

Thanks again to Ben and Anthony --they even swiped their Metro Cards at the subway for me (both ways!).  Yes, the yule log was on the TV---they have a very cozy apartment and make good use of space.

Ben--I had to laugh when I got home and saw a package from BC/EFA.  I had ordered a t-shirt and cap for a friend in California.  I looked at the return address and of course it was 165 W 46th St. I guess I could have picked them up yesterday!

TOD: I would most like to have Barbra Streisand's autograph.

I have many signed Playbills (Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Daniel Radcliffe, Patti LuPone, Angela Lansbury, among others.)   I have Hugh Jackman's , but it's just a scribble.  I guess the one I treasure the most is by Dame Judi Dench.

Needless to say I have signed CDs from Brent Barrett and also the Phantom Las Vegas program signed by the entire cast (with both Phantoms at the time, Brent and Anthony Crivello).

Oy, the back and forth on this house is maddening.  At this point, it looks like we may (emphasis:  may) have a deal, but it hinges on the bank accepting the reduced price offer and then Betsy and me putting funds for repairs into an escrow account, which will then be utilized by the bank (which will still own the house at that point) to make said repairs in order to make the house loan worthy.

The way it has to work is this:  we agree on a price (that should happen by tomorrow).  Then we get an appraisal.  We know going in the appraiser is going to at least recommend, if not outright require, a new roof.  At that point, we put the funds into escrow to re-roof the house, the bank actually hires the contractor (since they still own the house), the roof is put on, and then the loan closes.  Then we own the house.  Kind of.  ;)

If I could own any autograph that I don't already have, it would have to be the autograph of the very one, the very only...Mr. Stephen Sondheim.  I have been a fan of his music for many, many, many (that's three manys) years.  I know several people here already have it, but I don't.  Sigh.

T.O.D.

Probably Bobby Kennedy.  There was a beautiful framed and autographed photo of Bobby that was offered for sale recently by a delaer I have dealt with before.  Sadly, it cost the same amount as my cruise.

Autographs that I cherish:

BK, of course (I have to stroke his peccadillo)
WSMA - several
Barbra Streisand
Judy Garland
Liza
Angela Lansbury

But probably my prize is the autographed leather-bound copy of A NIGHT TO REMEMBER signed by Walter Lord and TITANIC - THE LAST GREAT IMAGES signed by Robert Ballard.

I share DR Laura's distrust of DR JMK's La Manse deal. It seems to me that banks in general haven't yet figured out how to deal with the many foreclosures. Since few buyers pay all cash, the property must be made loan-worthy. (I have seen some properties where the listing said it must be all cash, because the property was in such disrepair.) yet the banks don't want to pay for repairs. How much sense does that make? Senior bank executives are well-paid folks; can't they figure out a better way??

There's a beautiful house down the block from me, which is in foreclosure. It was listed two years ago for $3M. Rumor has it that the owners walked. Someone--the bank?--turned off the water and now the lovely landscaping has died. How much sense does this make?

I could go on, but I won't.

End of rant.

Yes, he did.  From what I could get from one of the Vatican Guards was that Pope John XXIII has been recently canonized (one step from Sainthood) and so his body was moved up to St. Peter's Basilica.

My, my, I seemed to have missed all the drama. I never would have guessed that mild-mannered JRand was so clever!

I hide it quite well.  Few people need have a fear of me - but those who feel the full fury of my wrath are reduced to dust.  You must remember that I am descended from Lord Stanley - who promised his army to Richard III - but in the end turned on him and handed the crown to Edward VII - his stepson.

Thomas Stanley, 2nd Baron Stanley, married Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII, and also Eleanor Nevill. The title of Earl of Derby was conferred on him in 1485 by his stepson Henry VII after the Battle of Bosworth Field where Thomas decided not to support King Richard III.

Dear folks, I am once again in South Carolina.  After an arduous Monday (ugh!) that didn't end until the airport shuttle driver called me 15 minutes earlier than expected to announce he was at my door did I officially end said Monday.  I raced around the house shutting things off (which I had plotted out carefully to be done over the next 15 minutes...minutes I no longer had) and gathering my luggage, etc.

After all was said and done, it worked out well enough, although I'd have preferred having a nap that afternoon.  The flight to Atlanta was not the best ever....first class simply isn't what it used to be.  This was one of the smaller Delta cross-country planes and it was jampacked and more...and the accommodations were a bit squeezed.  I was in semi-comfort, although the seat left much to be desired both in the upright and reclining positions.  I pray the flight back will be in a larger, more affable and comfortable aircraft.

Service was stingy, too.  I got two -- count 'em 2 -- small cups of Ginger Ale during my entire flight.  That and two small packets of dry roasted peanuts.  I tell you here and now that I'll never again allow a first-class experience to upset me as much as this one did.  I'm going to speak up and speak out...and I'm going to instruct the stewpersons to "bring the can" the next time I order a Ginger Ale.

I was here at my mother's house by noon today.  We had a nice lunch of stew (brunswick variety) and cornbread (man, can my mother ever make a pan of cornbread!!!).   By 1 p.m., I was unable to hold my head up so sleepy was I (and not having more than nodded off at any point during my cross-country flight...and by snoozing about 15 minutes on the connecting flight).   I went to bed at 1 and got up at 5:40 p.m.   I'm still sleepy, but will stay up as late as possible to ensure I get a good night's rest.

Speaking of which, my sleep the past week or so has been fitful, at best.  Too much anxiety, topped with some car ailments which perplexed and unnerved me (alternator issues now being attended to by a trusted mechanic), led me to having anxiety attacks at the oddest moments...most often when I'd awaken in the middle of the night.

Today, I slept the sleep of the dead.  It is amazingly comforting to sleep and not worry about anything.   My mom is recovering from a bout with pneumonia that erupted about two weeks ago.  She spent two nights in hospital but has been home two weeks (tomorrow) recovering.  She's feeling much better, but I've told her to do nothing, feel no obligations to decorate, etc.   I have a small tree to decorate tomorrow.

On the plus side, my mom fried me some chicken for supper and it was amazing.  We also had lima beans and a corn-and-tomato casserole (one of my, and her, favorites).   Golly but that fried chicken was sweet and tasty.   My momma can fry some chicken!  She soaks it in buttermilk first (usually overnight).  She coats it with Bisquick and then fries it in an iron skillet (or electric fry pan).  The key, however, is the size of the chicken.  She doesn't use any bird over 2.5 pounds.  The smaller the chicken, the tastier.

There's a rum cake and a fruit cake, both made by her a month ago, awaiting my taste buds.  I have not yet sampled either.

Ah, home.  Home. And I have my own room.  And I know all the faces I see.
Oh, gosh...there's no place like home.

Before I left for Jeff's home, I watched another episode of THE MENTALIST. This was the one with the teenager's body found on the beach and her group of friends who rallied around trying to help find her killer. My favorite part of the episode (because it isn't one of my favorites otherwise) is when Patrick builds this huge sand castle on the beach to draw out a suspect. It's just so delightful seeing him playing in the sand and the genuine delight the spectators have at his masterwork.

So...

Jean-Yves Thibaudet's recital at Carnegie Hall was quite wonderful.  The first half was all-Ravel, the "Pavane", and the "Miroirs" suite. Some truly beautiful, coloristic and crystalline playing.  The second half consisted of Brahms' Third Piano Sonata.  I've never really understood the Brahms piano sonatas, and, frankly, even after M. Thibaudet's quite splendid account earlier tonight, I still don't.  However, his playing and interpretation were worth experiencing.

*And through the assistance of a Twitter friend of mine, I was able to head backstage after the recital.  My friend, Joseph Hallman, who is a Philly-based composer, informed that he's known "JYT" since he was 17. So, he texted him, and was able to get my name on "the list".  It really was fun being directed to the "Maestro's Dressing Room", as well as standing in the reception line with some of the major piano teachers from Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music.

Since I was aggressively brutalized by BK to buy the Bernstein CD, I decided I might as well play it. For better or worse, it is drowning out the sound of Fox News.

der Brucer

I would post comments but we all know BK deletes all posts that do not heap lavish praise on all his endeavors.

Is "aggressively brutalized" redundant?

Why do I keep getting e-mail after e-mail about my colon?

Well, don't blame me. You know I think some of your opinions are half-assed so I would be e-mailing about your semicolon :D

TOD,

The autograph I most cherish is one by the brilliant, but unheralded,  Vinnie Cirilli.*

Well, this is a new one... To me at least...

I've been selling off some of my spare kitchen equipment via CraigsList over the past couple of weeks.  I have - well had - a Kitchen Aid Hand Mixer for sale.  -I just sold it this morning. When I got home, I found this response in my emailbox:

Quote
I am obliged to buy a used mixer, but nine Amazon customers who bought this model are not happy campers http://www.amazon.com/KitchenAid...

On yours, do both beaters operate optimally?

Does the motor smoke or shoot sparks out?

Assuming excellent working condition, may I offer $10?

Thanks.

WTF?

I went ahead and responded with a "why did you bother even responding to my ad in the first place" response.

I know I have been extremely busy

I believe derBrucer murdered him.

No bones have been uncovered and no charges filed.
