On Sunday we will be going to Lehman College in the Bronx to see a production of The Wizard of Oz starring Antonia (AKA TPunk) as the Wicked Witch of the West!

Friday morning greetings!  We are all packed up and about to leave for the Jacksonville airport to catch our flight back to Cincinnati.  All in all, I'd rather stay in Florida, because it's about 11o and windy in Ohio.

I was in Florida in January once. It was over 80 degrees and HUMID. I don't think I could survive summers there.

We had a frosting of snow overnight in the South of Jersey--just enough to scrape the shovel along the pathway and sideway and to require sweeping off the car.  Otherwise, it's sort of on the mild side.  But we are suppose to plunge into the teens tonight and remain in the twenties for the coming week and unfortunately, we are not talking about our age here.

Will do. We haven't seen her in ages. We're looking forward to seeing the show. It's a Childrens Theatre Production produced by

Riverdale Childrens Theatre (http://www.riverdaletheatre.org/Riverdale_Theatre/HOME_Riverdale_Childrens_Theatre_Bronx_NY.html)

located in the Bronx (or Riverdale as those residents who don't like to say they live in the Bronx call it  ;))

Streets are not cleared as yet and the temperature is -1 degree.

I've been in Phoenix in the middle of August. It was hell on earth. The street was so hot I could not stand in one place for any length of time because the heat from the sidewalk would transfer up through my sneakers and my feet got incredibly hot!

Guacamole has good fats in it. Or so I hear. I love guacamole. If it has good fats I can eat it. I think I passed my cholesterol test this year but I won't know until later this afternoon. I'm seeing the doctor to set the date for the appendectomy and at that time I will learn the results of my blood work.

Avocados are fruits and are really good for you. The fat in them is like olive oil, very beneficial and supposedly the kind that lowers bad cholesterol.

Had an original guac on Sunday night that was made with fresh pear, apple, dried cranberries (CRANBERRIES!) and pomegranate seeds with a touch of jalapeno to give it some heat. Very nice mixture of flavors and textures.

My personal freezing level is 70 degrees, so I don't think I'd want to go back to 11 degree weather either, DR Ginny. I remember my winter in Middletown back in the mid-'80s had days where it didn't get above -2. I had to walk to work because the streets weren't clear and nobody really wanted to do anything about it. Did all my work over the phone.

Never go near Mobile, Ala., at the same time of year. It's the same, only with humidity. You can see the waves of moisture and heat wobble and stagnate about you.

Good morning, all! The snow did indeed fall, not with the threatened amount, but enough to make Manhattan very very quiet this morning. I didn't get out of bed until 10:15. Now that I am moving about, I think I will head to the NYPL at Lincoln Center and play on the computers.

I have little else to report at the moment. I had another dream about my mother, and all of this constant stirring up of dead relatives is puzzling me.

And they cancelled school here in NYC for the mere three inches of snow that fell overnight. -Most of which had already been plowed and shoveled by the time the morning rush hour began.

I had a weird dream last night also. I dreamt that I lived ina nice house up on a hill in a nice old neighborhood. Two killers, a man and a woman, busted in through an unlocked door, sort of held me hostage for a couple of days and contemplated stealing some old movie posters and stuff. They also were planning to off me, but they did not know that I knew this, nor did they know that I knew they had parked their clunker van in an alley several blocks away and that in that van were 4 dead bodies.

It was all very strange, but my buddy Ron and the police eventually came to the rescue.

I think this dream came about  from my realizing last night that my walk home from the gym (which is about 5 or 6 blocks) is very dark and scary and that, although I now live in a secured apartment building (as opposed to the "easy to break into" cottage house I used to live in, there are still dangers around. That is my guess, anyway.

Also in that dream, I had great difficulty reaching police by dialing 911. First I kept dialing the wrong number, then the operator berated me, and then no 911 operators would answer or the call just wouldn't go through.

I think I have had this occur in dreams before, along with dreams where I am unable to dial a phone number correctly, over and over.

I've  been up for an hour, trying to deal with interim helper issues - either they have to get really serious about this or I have to begin looking for someone else - I'm not asking anyone to do anything for free, there is pay and it's not bad pay, actually.  And I'm having to do too much stuff and am not getting answers to questions quickly enough - I told the interim helper to take the weekend to see if this is something she can handle in the way I need it handled - and to be honest about it.  Then on Monday we can decide where to go from here.

DR Jane, I will keep walking since I walk from work to the gym, then from the gym home. I don't drive ot work any longer.

It will start getting darker later, so then it won't seem as ominous a trek. But I should try to find a better lit route, in the meantime.

Had a kind of funny thing happen this morning.  I went to visit one of my choir members, who had a devastating stroke in December.  She's quite spry physically, able to move OK, but she can't really talk yet and even her writing is often confused.  We sat and sang together, since music and lyrics are stored in a different part of the brain from language, and she was able to at least hum along.  But she then picked up a piece of paper and wrote in a scrawl:  NORSE MUSIC.  I started laughing and asked her if she wanted me to bring Norse music, and she just started giggling hysterically, obviously that was not what she intended.  The funny thing is, I just a couple of days ago got a new audio BD to review of the Norwegian choral group Ensemble 96 and I told her I could bring her a copy!  Still not sure exactly what she was asking for.  :)

I saw this on "The Simpsons" once. Bart, in a spoof of "Vertigo," dials 911. He gets a taped message and just starts hitting buttons. "You have selected regicide," the taped voice says back. "If you know the name of the monarch or royalty that has been killed, press 1 ..."

My scattered brain interpreted that as "more" music.

Nice story and I'm sure your visit was very beneficial physically & emotionally.

Maybe--except that after giggling, she crossed out NORSE and wrote NOSCW and underlined it vigorously.  ;)

Nothing on the viewing horizon.

On Sunday we will be going to Lehman College in the Bronx to see a production of The Wizard of Oz starring Antonia (AKA TPunk) as the Wicked Witch of the West!

DR Ben - please give TPunk a big "break a leg" hug from me!

Will do. We haven't seen her in ages. We're looking forward to seeing the show. It's a Childrens Theatre Production produced by

Riverdale Childrens Theatre (http://www.riverdaletheatre.org/Riverdale_Theatre/HOME_Riverdale_Childrens_Theatre_Bronx_NY.html)

located in the Bronx (or Riverdale as those residents who don't like to say they live in the Bronx call it  ;))

Isn't Riverdale where Archie and Jughead and Betty and Veronica and Reggie live?

As for low temperatures...

It's supposed to get down to a low of 5 degrees on Sunday here in New York City - with a high of 17.

Layers. Lots and lot of layers.

During my first year of college in Ellensburg (Jed and Ann's hometown), the snow started falling on Veteran's Day weekend and the snow stayed on the ground (and increased) until sometime in March.  One night we hiked down to the movie theater in town and it was -12 degrees.  When we came out of the movie, we all noticed how warm it had gotten.  Sure enough, it had warmed up to zero.

Sad news.

When Mia Farrow and Robert Redford made THE GREAT GATSBY, Theoni designed the costumes. A friend of mine worked on it as a beader and at one of the fittings with Farrow, she didn't like something about the costumes and asked Theoni to change it. The designer said no, and Farrow said something like "I'm the star of this movie," and Theoni replied,"On this movie I'm the star."

This is from the Times blog.    Was Theoni Aldredge 78 or 88?  (Rep[orts seem to conflict.)

"January 21, 2011, 12:46 PM
Theoni V. Aldredge, Costume Designer for ‘Chorus Line,’ ‘Annie,’ Has Died
By PATRICIA COHEN
Theoni V. Aldredge, the designer of the fabulously feathered transvestites in the original stage version of “La Cage aux Folles” and Little Orphan Annie’s red dress on Broadway, died Friday morning in Connecticut, said her husband Tom Aldredge. She was 88.

Considered one of the greatest costume designers of her era, Ms. Aldredge created the clothes for more than 300 stage and film productions, including “Gypsy,” “A Chorus Line,” “Dreamgirls” and “42nd Street.” She won an Oscar in 1975 for “The Great Gatsby” with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, and three Tony awards for “Barnum,” “Annie” and “La Cage.” In 1984 it was nearly impossible to take in the Broadway season without seeing one of Ms. Aldredge’s deliciously innovative costumes: five concurrently running shows (including “La Cage”) put 1,000 of her creations on stage at the same time.

A full obituary will follow.

An earlier version of this post gave the wrong age for Ms. Aldredge when she died. She was 88 not 78."

Very worrisome Word issues today - first time ever.  Started on the liner notes - I got a pop-up window that said I had too many windows open and to close them - of course, I had no windows open whatsoever.  Then I tried to save and another pop-up window came up that asked if I wanted to save a rescued version - I said yes, but it never did it.  I went to close the document and it wouldn't close - got another pop-up that said Word didn't have sufficient memory - say what?  I finally highlighted everything and saved, then finally was able to close the doc.  When I opened it again, the last section I'd been working on wasn't there.  Luckily, I just cut and pasted it back and all was well and I had no further problem.

Then when I was writing just now for the book, the same thing happened and THAT scrared me like crazy.  I went through the same things, highlighted the previous twenty pages just in case, then closed out of the document.  When I reopened, everything was there.  But I sent a copy of it to myself via e-mail, and I know the computer itself saves everything via Time Machine every forty minutes or so - still I really don't like that sort of stuff.  I haven't been able to find out anything online about it, and I may call Apple tomorrow to see if they have any suggestions, although I'm sure they'll just tell me to call whoever makes Word for Mac.

Without knowing the name of today's notes, DS Zach just told me how much he loves Orange Chicken. :)

BK, I believe you had this problem a long time ago, maybe when you were PC'd (so to speak).  You can alleviate it sometimes by deleting NORMAL.DOT (yes, that's DOT after the .).  That file will automatically reconstitute itself when you start Word the next time.  I have to do it occasionally.

I have been playing my facebook games and looked up to find Ricky and Callie on the couch together. Ricky was giving Callie a bath.  They let me take a photo.  Now if I can just find the cord to put the photo in my computer

Finally found something about the problem and the solution seems to be, as Cilla notes above, to restrart the computer.  Sometimes if you're working a lot in Word and you don't restart, it saves up all sorts of things that eat up memory - when you restart apparently all those useless things go away and you start with fresh memory.  It's just odd I've never had this problem on any Mac before.

It's more of a Microsoft Word problem. ;)

I'm uploading two Brain From Planet X videos - it really takes a long time to do so - I've got more to upload after that.  These are all the edisaurus-edited videos from the original LACC production.

Just finished watching an Audie Murphy western called SHOWDOWN (1963). It costarred Charles Drake and Kathleen Crowley. I had never seen this one before and I quite enjoyed it.

Encore Westerns has been showing a lot of old Universal studios westerns, which are my favorite westerns of all.

And fans of WAGON TRAIN may be interested to know that Encore Westerns has begun to show the old reruns of that tv program.
