Friday morning greetings! Today I'm going to let my cousin totally look after his mother, because yesterday was quite stressful. Her condition continues to deteriorate and she's very uncooperative. Without going into too much detail, I can tell you that he may be in Ohio longer than he'd planned.Vibes for you, Ginny, as well as your cousin and his mom.
Good morning. I am waiting for DR Sandra to wake up to see if she wants to go for breakfast. Something besides oatmeal for a change!
I'm up and the strained muscle in the middle of my chest is still rearing it's ugly head. We move on...
iPod - been listening to podcasts and have started to listen to some opera. I need to create a program that will flash super titles on the radio display in my car. I do realize it would be terribly dangerous, but still, very helpful for the driver and passengers alike.
I know there are some cars that "project" the dashboard and GPS directions on the windshield. I'm guessing supertitles couldn't be that far behind.
Today is another Encores! day. Yesterday, joshie and I worked through the entire "Pernambuco" ballet which took us four hours, and I have a few fixes to do this morning. After that I ran to an audition to hear Kasey Marino sing. I'm looking for young performers who can do music from 1900 to 1940 with legit voices; I don't want "American Yodeling," I don't want big band crooning. I want good "Broadway" singers who can give me a legit sound. Most operatic baritones sing with a covered sound. I want a good young legit Broadway baritone like John Raitt or John Reardon. My goal is to find several young sopranos, belters, tenors, and baritones for this project begun with the Herbert songs. Ideally, my goal is to find the new generation of Rebecca Luker, Judy Kaye, Jeanne Lehman, Kim Criswell, George Dvorsky, Brent Barrett, Hugh Panaro, David James Carroll. I love them all but they will not stay young forever except in my mind.
Scrapes, cracks, and flickering lights are not good, DR Jose...Not good at all.
Morning all.
I slept very late (for me) today. I got up around 9:45am. I'm feeling much better. 12 hours of sleep can do that for you. There is still some soreness but no pain and the soreness has subsided since yesterday as well. Also the gas that they pumped into my abdomen is passing as well. My stomach was somewhat distended and before I left the hospital the nurse said part of the operation involves pumping carbon dioxide gas into the abdominal cavity to allow room to work and allow the surgeon to see...........
Thank you, DR TCB, and vibes for you, too!
Thank you, DR TCB, and vibes for you, too!
Thank you, DR Ginny. And many thainks to everyone who offered me vibes.
Adn tank ho yua to DR Vixmom.
I think I may have resolved my problem at the office. I may be looking at it from the wrong perspective. I think I need more help, not less...I'm thinking maybe hiring someone part time in addition to Edith.
DR JANE the sharpei photo from yesterday was so cute.

Good morning! After deciding to hire a part time assistant I went back to bed and actually slept. That felt very good
Aww. Feel better vibes to Fr. Richard.
...and Richard has come down with a cold. Perfect.
Glad you didn't allow yourself to be bullied into it, TCB.

CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU
CACTUS FLOWER coming back to Broadway? Oh dear! That show seemed dated when it was new. However, Maxwell Caulfield could make it more enjoyable.
DR Ginny, VIBES FOR YOUR AUNT AND YOUR FAMILY!!!
DR Ben I am amazed how pain free you are and thrilled you are doing so well!!!

"Remember?" from A Little Night Music!
So...what do I win?? :D

Technically, it's playing at an Off-Broadway house (The Westside Theatre on 43rd and 9th). I still don't think it will do particularly well. I can't imagine why someone thought to revive it. Even with Maxwell Caulfield. I like him but I didn't like the play when I saw it or the movie, even with Goldie Hawn and Ingrid Bergman.

Thank you, Ben, I thought I was being too cynical.
CACTUS FLOWER is a favorite movie of my buddy Mark. He made me watch it shortly after we met some years back...that and BLAZING SADDLES.I've learned not to force my favorite movies on friends. I like having favorite movies and I like having friends. Too many friends have made me watch things like the "Star Wars" movies (I stopped after the third, which is now the sixth) or movies by Steven Spielberg that I wouldn't seek out in lifetime and then they take offense if my mind wanders off or I start reading or gnawing off an arm to stave off the boredom.
CACTUS FLOWER I enjoyed, BLAZING SADDLES I never finished, and never plan to.
DR Ginny, VIBES FOR YOUR AUNT AND YOUR FAMILY!!!
Thank you, DR Jane. Her grandson is a trooper and is warming up to us, especially as we find more and more toys for him to play with. He's bilingual, but shy about speaking English. He understands everything we say to him and is gradually using his English more and more. He and his dad went out to the hospital by themselves today, so we'll see how that went...
DR Ben I am amazed how pain free you are and thrilled you are doing so well!!!
:D :D :D
Back when I had my appendix removed, I had to stay in the hospital for nine days! I asked my mom if this was because it was an emergency case but she couldn't recall for sure. All she really remembers is that the house was blissfully quiet for a week.
My whole body is sore today. I think my body tensed up when the docttor started shooting the numbing agents into me. I needed a bullet to bite.
Fr. Richard developed a cold this morning.
Oh. Health vibes to Fr. Richard.
Thanks, DR TCB! He was just bragging that he far fewer colds since he retired from teaching.
Thank you, DR MBarnum. I'm off now to take the cousins out for some fun - Jungle Jim's (http://www.junglejims.com) here we come! Bye for now!
I never even had a chance to post this morning. I got up late, then had to deal with all the CD stuff - all the US Gone With The Wind single orders went out, but the combos and Fear Strikes Out are so huge that they'll either go out this afternoon or tomorrow morning. There was a lot of other stuff to do, plus I'm still not up to snuff - it seems to still be stuck in my chest and it's just hanging in there. I really believe what everyone's got is the flu and I think those stupid flu shots did nothing but take our money.

I am back from Encores! with "Once In Love with Amy" to work on, so I will not be going to see Kurt Weill, much as I would like to, and I will most likely miss THE BARTERED BRIDE , one of my favorite operas, as well. The Act Two duet for the soprano and buffo tenor is one of the most glorious pieces of music ever written, and the Overture and three dances are pretty wonderful as well. I do remember seeing it in cincinnati; I hated the soprano and got into a fight about it with my friend Loyce who was studying with the same voice teacher as the soprano I loathed.
I liked THE CACTUS FLOWER as a movie quite a lot. I've never seen the play, but I have seen my old acquaintance Maxwell Caulfield, who's a very nice gentleman, in the nude (along with Sam Trammel) in a production of MY NIGHT WITH REG. Seems a hundred years ago now.

Then I had some lunch - soup and a sandwich and a few fries (the first time I've ever left fries on a plate - half, to be exact).

I tend to shut down if people try to make me watch movies. Or most television programs. I stop paying attention and my mind goes blank.

I would suspect the following reasons:
1. Clint Walker wasn't in it
2. Ty Hardin wasn't in it
3. No one stripped to the waist
4. Richard Harrison wasn't in it
You can set your clock by DR MBarnum!

It is such a strange movie one would expect DR MBarnum to like it.;) Actually, as much as I enjoyed the movie, I'm wasn't surprised he didn't like it.
I don't know, I just wasn't. Maybe because it isn't your usual Western.
Then I ran proofer one's suggestions by Muse Margaret - we did a few and didn't do many because, as always, Muse Margaret will never allow anything to harm the voice of the book, even if it's more correct grammatically. And I have to agree in every single instance, because the more correct version is always stilted or formal and that's not me and that's not the Hofstetter books.

I like the funny cats clip except some of the cats were obviously, or carelessly, set up to fall and they could have been injured. Cats can break if they don't have time to right themselves before hitting the ground.

The one that worried me was the cat who caused the light to fall into the aquarium. They are lucky that the cat (or the fish) didn't get electrocuted.

I just read that Seattle author Mary Daheim will be doing a book signing tomorrow afternoon. I don't think I will be well enough to go.

Yeah! Otherwise you won't know what today's Topic of the Day might be.
I knew I was right, and I'm quite certain that FJL will feel contrite, oh, yes, he'll feel contrite and NEVER not read the notes first again, lest the dust of 1000 devils swirl around him for eternity.
They can do Forty Carats next and revive that, too.
And whatever illness I've got can kiss my ASS.
No, seriously, BK. I always ketchup first because getting here is easy, and then I do read the notes. Quiz me. i know more about your trip than you do. :)

I have read all of the bed and breakfast series and a few of the Alpine series. The Alpine series just doesn't really grab me. The B & B is lite and frothy, and occasionaly reads like Lucy and Ethel solve a murder; but I really enjoy the characters. And if you know Seattle at all, it is fun to figure out the real names of the places she talks about.

I haven't lost any sleep over why people see Adam Sandler movies, either. It's great for falling asleep to, Elmore.
It keeps me awake pondering what in heaven makes such a lousie piece of nonsense DR MBarnum's favorite film!
That is an old joke around here, John G. Until someone chewed me out about not seeing classic movies.Ah, the classics. Like "Happy Madison." I've missed them, too.
Glad to hear MR BK is back home and back on schedule. I am sure the show was a great hit.
Remember - there is NO MAIL DELIVERY on Monday.
I like Big Love as well John G - it is about the only show that I watch regularlySince I don't get cable, I need to wait until a season comes out on DVD. So, I'm on Season Four. I know the one currently airing is the last, which is a shame.
And speaking of young singers, a friend of mine had an extra ticket to the joint presentation of The Bartered Bride (http://www.juilliard.edu/journal/2010-2011/1102/articles/bartered-bride.php) by The Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School last night, so I joined him...
First of all, it was my first time in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. What a gorgeous facility! Great sightlines, great acoustics, a big stage and a big orchestra pit (with hydraulics!).
As for the opera... The leads were comprised of singers from The Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and/or Juilliard's advanced Voice division, and the Juilliard Orchestra was led by none other than Maestro James Levine. -And Stephen Wadsworth was the stage director. It was quite a wonderful evening all around. Beautiful singing, spectacular playing, and even some fine dancing courtesy of Juilliard Dance. The "circus interlude" at the top of the Act 3 was particularly enjoyable.
This was the first presentation in this collaboration/experiment, and it seemed to work very well. Additionally, the production used a new translation by J.D. McClatchey, and, apparently, this is a trial run for an expanded version for the Met's 2012-13 season.
I didn't go in to work today. I had a very uncomfortable night. It hurt no matter which way I tried to sleep. I woke up at about two and my whole body was shaking. I got up and took some Tylenol and drifited back to sleep. There was no way I could face getting in the shower before work.
Thank you, DR TCB, and vibes for you, too!
