Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Twilight Time, both song and new DVD label, and now it is time for you to post until the twilight cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BLANDISHMENT!
-
A Question for BK: can you give a hint as to what the newest cast album release will be...and if you can, what is it??
:D
-
And Nick Redman and his pal Brian Jamieson's new DVD label sounds pretty cool!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
No one here, not even a guest?
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I've actually been up since about 5:30... <snoooze>... Well, make that 6:00...
-
And it's raining in NYC. But it is supposed to dry out over the next couple of hours.
-
DR Ben - FYI: Scoutmob (http://scoutmob.com/new-york/) is currently offering a 50%-off deal for East of Eighth (http://scoutmob.com/new-york/deal/657). All you - or any other DR - have to do is claim the deal on their website (or keep it on your smartphone). There's no fee and no obligation. However, this offer does expire June 15.
*Scoutmob (http://scoutmob.com/) is also available in other cities.

raining hard out and I must get me to work --- all I want to do is go back to bed

VIBES for All Good Things for all DRs!!
-
Oh...
I went back to packing....
Laters...
-
Good morning, all! I was out of bed and wide awake at 4 am, pondering the email response I'd written to the Master Toymaker, and I wrote another draft between 4 and 4:45. This one's nicer: I don't call him a pig although I did tell him I hope to never see or hear from him again. I went back to bed and slept fitfully with horrible dreams of broken friendships and betrayal unril 7:30.
I will shortly depart in the rain for Toyland to cart home more personal items. I would like everything out by Friday; it isn't much: about three bookshelves of books and scrapbooks, all the photocopies of the full scores to BABES IN TOYLAND that I copied in 1990 for The Houston Grand Opera, a few CDs that I may end up tossing. I have the piano and the computer to worry about, and if they're pitched, that's life. As far as I'm concerned, anything left belongs to the Institute and I suspect it will all become landfill.
After I bring home this first load today, I will call Joshie, learn about times for rehearsal this afternoon and tonight's dress, and plan my day.
Excelsior!
-
VIBES for All Good Things for all DRs!!
I most certainly second this.
-
DR elmore - There's a branch of Housing Works on 18th Street. You may want to give them a call about donating the piano and computer to them.

I may offer them the piano, but I've called my Mac man about the iMac. I'm waiting to hear from him.
Good luck with your move! I am finally heading out of the apartment.
-
I enjoyed BOMBSHELL and LIBELED LADY last night.....but didn't stick around for RECKLESS......
I am intrigued by the Twilight Time DVD label, although I am not wild about The Kremlin Letter - I shall look forward to future titles. And of course I am excited to hear about the Kritzerland titles that MR BK mentioned in the notes.
-
I need to write my director's notes for Camelot......I've started a couple of times......and didn't like what I had to say.
I hope I have something interesting to say today.
-
I had a question yesterday.....but I forgot what it was.
I did make a video for my friend Shelly who is directing THE MUSIC MAN.

Wednesday morning greetings! The big plan for today is for all of us to apply for passports. What we didn't plan, until late last night, is a trip to the Apple Store Genius Bar. Richard's laptop misbehaved last night and seems to have a dead hard drive. Might be time for a new computer for him...
-
Good morning, all.
-
My question for ASK BK day......do you live close to Mr Ramon Navarro's last home at 3110 Laurel Canyon Blvd?
-
TOD: So, with the death of the DVD industry, where does that place a niche company like the Criterion Collection? I'm still seeing handsomely packaged movies, such as a great new Japanese flick called "Still Walking," which has recipes in the movie booklet. Because the films are smaller to begin with, are they in a category like the one you wrote about?
-
VIBES for All Good Things for all DRs!!
I most certainly second this.
Add me to the chorus.
-
I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.
Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.
-
Travel vibes for DR Druxy!
-
DR GINNY.....you said yesterday DS Rob had finished 4 of 5 quarters of his training.....it has 5 quarters?
-
Safe travels, Druxy!
-
DR GINNY.....you said yesterday DS Rob had finished 4 of 5 quarters of his training.....it has 5 quarters?
Yeah, DR JRand, it doesn't really compute, does it?
-
LOL.....now I am going to have to learn to make change all over again.
-

I did make a video for my friend Shelly who is directing THE MUSIC MAN.

Something tells me that's fairly normal for auditions, JRand.
-
I need to write my director's notes for Camelot......I've started a couple of times......and didn't like what I had to say.
I hope I have something interesting to say today.
Jack, if you want to talk about the material cut immediately in Toronto, when the show was four hours long, I can tell you about the two big numbers in Act One that were cut.
-
Greetings from Toyland! Tomorrow the Mac Man is coming for the computer.
-
I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.
Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.
Lucky you! She's a wonderful lady.

I really liked GLEE last night.

HEADS-UP ALERT!
Amazon.com's Gold Box currently features that fantastic 8-disc set of remastered "The Little Rascals" shorts.
These are fab, and I paid $50 or so for the set when it first came out.
It's in today's Gold Box for $28 and some change.
You read it HERE!
-
DR GINNY.....you said yesterday DS Rob had finished 4 of 5 quarters of his training.....it has 5 quarters?
New math?
-
I really liked GLEE last night.
I wanted to....and Kurt's "Blackbird" vocal was superb. But Regionals reeked, IMO.
I'm so TIRED of over-processed voices (shrieking songs instead of singing them) passing for "live, on-stage" performances.
-
DR Druxy, have a great time at FESTIVAL OF THE WEST! And give DR Laura a big hug from us all.
-
A Question for BK: can you give a hint as to what the newest cast album release will be...and if you can, what is it??
:D
I can say it has a wonderful score, was a smash on B'way, but did not do well in London, although the London cast recording is lovely.
-
I just hope he will like me even though I don't watch movies.
(And that thrust "this" into my mind):
Will he like me when we meet?
Will the shy and quiet girl he's going to see
Be the girl the he's imagined me to be?
Will he like me?
Will he like the girl he sees?
If he doesn't, will he know enough to know?
That there's more of me than I may always show,
Will he like me?
Will he know that there's a world of love
Waiting to warm him?
How I'm hoping that his eyes and ears
Won't misinform him
Will he like me, who can say?
Oh, this evening seems a million years away
It's insanity to worry so all day
I'll try not to
Will he like me?
He's just got to
Will he like me?
He's just got to
-
My question for ASK BK day......do you live close to Mr Ramon Navarro's last home at 3110 Laurel Canyon Blvd?
The addresses on Laurel Canyon can be odd, but if it's where I think it is, I'm probably five to ten minutes from there.
-
BK, I am excited about Twilight Time. When you mention "obscure" does that mean that Twilight Time will be releasing some of 20th Century Fox's B movies??? I sure hope so! It would mean a great deal to me and DR JRand if they could release Allison Hayes' 1960 film HIGH POWERED RIFLE!!
-
I'm up - slept well, and probably would have slept another hour but someone nearby was tapping or hammering or something, so that was that.
-
I am in the apartment with two shopping bags of books. I also brought home Skip Kennon's BMI bag since I doubt he will be in the office before I turn in my keys this weekend.
-
On my way to a taxi, one of the bags broke from the weight of the books. Oy! I don't know where I'll line up more shopping bags by tomorrow, but I will try.
-
!!! Cranberries !!!
Page 3 Dance.
-
How about those cloth grocery bags?
-
Now I have to empty these bags and prepare for the trip to City Center.
-
I am thinking about a jog.
-

:D

My guess is 1776 (but that's only a guess--I'm not taking any wagers!)
-

Go to an Army/Navy store and find a canvas duffel bag or sea bag.
A sea bag has one strap that allows you to carry it on one shoulder. A duffel bag often has two straps so you can carry it like an oversized backpack.
Either bag can alllow you to carry a lot of books.

So sad to be all alone on the forum.
-
Oy! I just got an apology for yesterday's email. No, I think I will not go back to this.
-
DR Elmore - I have loads of canvas tote bags from library conferences. Would you like a few?
-

I doubt they would arrive in time to finish this move. Thanks for the offer.
-
Larry, do you have luggage on wheels? Anthony and I have found them to be helpful when making a move with lots of stuff. Fill it up, pull out the handle and pull it down the street to the taxi or subway.
-
FSM, via its distributor Screen Archives, has just announced the release of the original soundtrack score, in blazing stereo, by Nathan Van Cleave for "Robinson Crusoe on Mars."
-
Elmore, perhaps you should stop reading your e-mail for better or for worse.

Me, too. I'm glad I don't know what Katy Perry (sp?) sounds like after all these audition spoofs in which she is mentioned.
-
Back from submitting our passport applications. The clerk looked at my Oregon birth certificate the way some people look at President Obama's.
-
Sounds like you are planning on a trip outside of the USA, Ginny. Did I miss a post where you said where you are going?
-
No, DR Laura, I haven't mentioned it publicly yet. Richard and I made a deposit yesterday on a fall river cruise in Germany with the Miami University Alumni Association. We'll spend some time in Paris before and after the cruise. And Rob and Mary Linda are planning to honeymoon in Canada.
-
Oooooh, nice, Ginny!
-
Sounds wonderful Ginny
-
I posted an email to a list serv about an issue with our state bar that I was upset about. Holy moly on rye did I cause a ruckus! sounds like they've had meetings about my email and I got a very sharply worded email from one of the officials telling me I was wrong in what I said in the email about past policy of the Bar. I responded privately to the same person how I got the information I posted. I haven't heard another word from him.
-
I was supposed to speak at a seminar sponsored by them in April. I decided not to do it. I didn't have a very good experience when I chaired a committee there in the 90s and now this has reared its ugly head, so I decided to cancel. I provided names of possible alternate speakers and it's about 6 weeks away, so I didn't really leave them in the lerch too much, but I just don't feel like dealing with it
-
I did get a number of supportive emails from others saying they were thinking the same thing I was. So I'm not at all sorry I said what I said.
-
Anyway, back to work.....a client awaits.
-
Cilla, nice that you got some support in what you thought.
-
DR Elmore, remember to lift with you legs.
-
DR Ginny, your upcoming trip sounds like fun!
Did those looking at your passport accuse you of being from Kenya?
-
Good Afternoon!
Everything is in the storage unit! -Well, almost everything is in there. -And, best of all, it all fit! -Although, quite snugly. Alas, I forgot to load my 2-drawer file - that's not the right term - so, I'll deal with that tomorrow.
Right now, I'm taking a little breather, and then I'll start sweeping and dusting. And then I'll turn in my keys. :)

Exciting news about the trip, Ginny
-
Aww, Druxy. Well, at least you will be missing our first 90 degree day.

I've been delayed several times, but I never got any kind of credit.

I really liked GLEE last night.
I did too...a lot. :)

I received a nice apology from the lady I do most of my licensing from - I really could stand no more today and I wrote a very strong e-mail and she apologized and said everyone over there is feeling a lot of stress from the new bosses, who simply do what new bosses always do - try to put everyone on the defensive and to justify their existence. No one knows if they're going to be replaced but what these oafs don't realize is that these people are the ONLY people who've brought in money to the company in the last few years, and suddenly making them take hard attitudes to those of us who've been nothing buy loyal and wonderful and trouble free (not all labels are created equally and from what I understand several have been pains in the ASSES) will not help them earn more money. I had ten titles being held and I let them all go yesterday, save for three that weren't part of the ten. That is a loss of 25K for them and I don't think any other labels would be picking up those ten titles. So, the new bosses will make a bad situation even worse and they will get what they deserve. I will now be very circumspect about any further titles and will only do things I'm fairly certain of and never take chances on other titles.
-
One two three....inhale.....and ......exhale....
-
Glad to be home. It's beautiful here. Still 66 degrees!! I have three windows open and each has a cat in it, lol
-
Wolf Blitzer's hair is a bit windblown or maybe just getting long
-
I got an email right before I left the office from a newspaper reporter on the other side fo the state wanting me to give her a quote about the situation I wrote about in my email. I've stirred things up enough, I said no. She'll have to find her story with others.
-
Thinking about taking a walk, but it's kind of nice to just sit here with the windows open
-
I'm all alone....so All alone.....maybe I'll just go to Cityville.
-
I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.
Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.

I hope there is photographic evidence of the mini HHW meet and greet! Are DRs Kerry & Sandra going to join in the fun?
-
Cilla you trouble maker you
;D
-
Good luck with final bits of your move Jose
-
((((Elmore)))))
but must you burn this bridge after all this time? :-\
-
JRand --- funny movie!!
-
BK - Does the apology mean that they are willing to go back to the old way of doing business with you?
-
Ginny I am so jealous!! Enjoy!!
-
From DR elmore:
That isn't a joke. It's petty and cruel.
I agree.
-
From Cilla:
I agree and just to be clear I was commenting on black/dark humor in general
I got it. :)
-
Ginny what part of Canada are the kids planning to visit?
-
Cilla you trouble maker you
;D
Oh my, there were meetings and emails and all sorts of reactions to my email on the listserv by the big wigs in the organization. Good grief, it wasn't that inflamatory. I shared a concern I had based on the way a situation similar to the one we are facing today was handled back in the 1990s. They got so excited and reacted so crazily that I get the feeling I may have been right about my concern....me thinks thou dost protest too much
-
From DR Jose:
Since there's a new owner, they can raise (or lower?) the rent, and not have to follow the rental laws in New York City.
I had no idea. Does that pertain to everyone or people who began renting after a certain date?
-
Ginny when I first read your response to the question about getting your passports I thought you were saying you needed them to go to Canada on Rob and Mary Linda's honeymoon
-
I've had the windows open for a couple hours. Man is it nice. The cats are very pleased.

The one the person sent prior to your response?

Elmore, perhaps you should stop reading your e-mail for better or for worse.
This made me laugh-sorry elmore. Even if it should have come sooner an apology is better than nothing.
-
No, DR Laura, I haven't mentioned it publicly yet. Richard and I made a deposit yesterday on a fall river cruise in Germany with the Miami University Alumni Association. We'll spend some time in Paris before and after the cruise. And Rob and Mary Linda are planning to honeymoon in Canada.

What? The groom's parents don't always go on the honeymoon?
when Vixdad and I were married his folks flew in from England (where they were still living) and they did not fly out until 3 days after our wedding -- so we delayed our honeymoon. On the Monday after our wedding we took my folks and his folks to NYC and took the CircleLine tour of Manhattan
Vixdad and I were doing a little canoodling and his Mum jokingly made some comment about public shows of affection to which I replied 'After all it's our honeymoon - didn't you enjoy the odd kiss on your honeymoon?"
She answered,,"Of course! But I wasn't bloody fool enough to bring my inlaws with me!"

Very exciting news about your friend, Vixmom.

DR Ginny, your upcoming trip sounds like fun!
Did those looking at your passport accuse you of being from Kenya?
Just about, DR MBarnum! I'm sure a bored clerk in Middletown, OH, doesn't see Oregon documentation very often.
-
Laura do Hawks eat worms? Yesterday we saw a hawk on our driveway before we startled it up into the tree. It went flew part way down to the ground a few times and we couldn't figure out why, except unless they eat worms.

Congrats to vixmom's friend.

Thanks, DRs Laura, Cillaliz, FJL, and Vixmom.
To clarify: Rob and Mary Linda will honeymoon in Toronto in September - alone. Richard and I will go to Europe in October - alone. Richard's passport had expired a long time ago and Rob and I have never had passports, so, yes, we all went to the Clerk of Courts office together.
At least the confusion of my statements prompted DR Vixmom's great story about HER honeymoon with her in-laws!

This morning I lead my hiking group on my longer hike, plus some, on my usual trails. Had it not been raining hard when I left the house I would have taken my camera. I missed out on snowed covered mountains and beautiful views. At least the rain stopped and the views were visible.

little birds?
bunny rabbits?

We didn't see the bushes moving and the hawk seemed to be eying our driveway.

At least the confusion of my statements prompted DR Vixmom's great story about HER honeymoon with her in-laws!
;D
-
DR Vixmom - congratulations to your friend! Will you go to SoCal to see the play?

Maybe it was a nearsighted hawk and it mistook your driveway for a river

I wish - but unless a barrel of money falls in my lap I am afraid not
-
Thank you all for the kind words from my friend - We have been friends since 1976 and he has been writing plays since he was a boy . I am so proud of him I could bust!

TOMMY!!!!!!!!
I scared TCB away
-
Depends on what kind of hawk it is. A kestrel (which is small) will eat grasshoppers and lizards and mice and smaller birds. I don't know about worms. Maybe if the worm was just sitting there it might.
Bigger hawks would go for rodents, other birds, etc. I once saw a Harris' Hawk try to take Tabby Tom, one of our feral cats that lives in the backyard. Tabby Tom swatted it away.

:-X

My MIL came on our "honeymoon." And she came knocking on the motel door at about 10 p.m. with a snack for my DH.

My MIL tells a story about her MIL. When she was about to cook her first meal for her new husband she asked his Mum what his favorite meal was --- the wicked old bat named all the foods he HATED as his favorites
-
Oh, that was just MEAN, Vixmom. How awful.
-
and my mothers' MIL!
Oh dear - I remember clearly standing in my grandmothers' kitchen on some holiday or another , while she washed dishes and my Mom dried...(THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES)
"Oh my poor Sonny.....:" she would sigh. "He had so many girlfriends.......". and then she would look meaningfully at my mom....
-
Vixdad and I have great MILs!
-
I miss my mother-in-law...
-
She sounds like a Marie Barone, Vixmom.

Oy! I just got an apology for yesterday's email. No, I think I will not go back to this.
The one the person sent prior to your response?
I've mailed no response yet. I am doing it Friday when I've got my things out so I can ask what I should do about my keys.
I doubt I will go back. This is the lull before the next bout of madness. I don't think that leopard will be changing spots.

How long does the hacky cough last in this cold that's going around?
Mine lasted over five weeks.

She sounds like a Marie Barone, Vixmom.
???

I am in the apartment with two shopping bags of books. I also brought home Skip Kennon's BMI bag since I doubt he will be in the office before I turn in my keys this weekend.
elmore, did you send the rewritten e-mail?
No. It was just one more draft. I have to write a whole different one now. I must acknowledge the apology and be firm about how these ups and downs are sending me away from the job.
-
She sounds like a Marie Barone, Vixmom.
???
Marie Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond. She's Raymond's mother (Doris Roberts, the actress)
-
I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.
Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.
Lucky you! She's a wonderful lady.
Even though I've been on this website for a while, I sometimes momentarily forget that DR stands for Dear Reader, so when I read that elmore thought Doctor Laura was a "wonderful lady" I was taken aback to say the least!
She may be a wonderful lady, but I will never let her operate on me.

Richard has had it for 4 weeks now. It seems to be subsiding, but it's still there...

The invited dress rehearsal of WHERE'S CHARLEY? was quite wonderful tonight. When I was leaving City Center after the afternoon rehearsal, I ran smack into Jonathan Tunick, who was waiting for Red Press, the orchestra contractor. The two of them took me out to a lovely Italian dinner on West 55th Street. We were joined by Bill Elliot who's orchestrating the new ANYTHING GOES at the Roundabout. It was a wonderful gathering, and then Bill went back to the Porter show and Red, Jonathan, and I went to WHERE'S CHARLEY?
After the performance I rode uptown in a taxi with Jonathan, who's off to London to conduct a recording he's arranged for a singer named Kate Bush.

We received word yesterday that my aunt is being relocated to a skilled nursing unit at the retirement community. This is a permanent move, so my Georgia cousin will be here next week to clear out the patio home she's lived in since 2005.

Richard's MacBook was admitted to the computer hospital to receive a new hard drive. He's back to using the desktop on the dining room table.

We watched this series when it was in syndication before we got rid of our tv.

Don't let the printer repairman get his hands on that laptop, Ginny. He might erase the hard-drive by mistake.

The desktop is a Mac, too, DR Vixmom.
And, DR Laura, the data on the old hard drive is probably already gone...

How'd it get to be 11:30? Guess it's time to go to bed - 'night!

So, if you want to know why I'm at home tonight, you can read it on my blog, which is dated tomorrow.

I didn't want to have to write this story more than once.
BTW: If you do visit my site, please sign the guest book.
Thanks.

Sounds like a wonderful evening, even if the idea of Jonathan Tunick and Kate Bush working together is somewhat hard to swallow.

Does that mean you'll be able to make the SXSW HBO party tomorrow afternoon in Austin?

Just finished listening to "Once on This Island," which always makes me feel good. It says the same story as the novel, "Ceremony," that I'm supposed to be writing about, but it says it so much better and in more interesting ways. I'm going to have to include some snippet of it in the paper.
-
I tried to leave a comment, but I couldn't get the squiggly letters right on any of several tries.

LOL!!! At least it feels like it

Be sure to work F. Scott Fitzgerald in there somehow, too.
-
I don't think you were posting here when my daughter was a college student, John G., but she said she always managed to get F. Scott Fitzgerald mentioned in a paper -- even one about Shakespeare.

There is a blank space from Laura from Arizona. At least it shows you were there

DR Druxy, so sorry your plans got so messed up. Hope you get a good night's sleep. Do you still get the $400 even though you didn't fly?
-
Vixmom - congrats to your friend
-
Obviously I had nothing to say.
-
Just your presence says it all
-
:D
-
Ok, time to get some sleep. I have a very long day tomorrow.
-
Had a very good rehearsal with The Singer - she's finally mostly comfortable and having fun - the few times when things didn't work were when she wasn't having fun - she understands that now and hopefully tomorrow night she'll be even better.
-
I'm listening to the music from an upcoming release, the one where I discovered we had pristine sources for a major cult horror film. It's been released on CD twice before and I have a rather intimate history with it, but that release was thirty-four minutes and taken from a third generation 7 1/2 ips tape. We've now got the first generation 15ips tapes. Unfortunately, the CDR that was made for me today has music only coming out of the left channel (it's mono, but you can't get any level that way and the sonics are all scrunched over there). So, he'll have to check and make sure the uploaded files are correct - if they aren't he'll have to retransfer tomorrow. If they are, I'll have him run me new CDRs.
-
I'm quite tired, especially of listening to music only coming out of my left speaker - but what music. And it does sound like we've got everything here - which means a good fifteen minutes more music than the other release, maybe even more.
-
Wow, forty more postings and I achieve a rather startling plateau.

Good Evening!
Thanks for all of the Moving Vibes. They really did help today.
I ended up spending about fours hours getting my now-old apartment back in order. There was lots of dust, and I also had a few more things to set aside for a pick-up tomorrow.
I'm staying at a friend's place for the next couple of nights. I may be heading down to Virginia on Sunday, but with the crackdown on the Chinatown busses after two very horrible and unfortunate accidents over the past few days, I have a feeling the schedules may not be so "available". And then onto Chicago on Wednesday for a week, and then once I'm back, I move into my new place.
-
DR Druxy - I'm sorry I didn't wish you ~~~~TRAVEL VIBES~~~~ earlier. ;)
-
DR elmore - What a great chance meeting with Mr. Tunick and Company! -So... Any word on Anything Goes? How big is the band?
-
And since I've been up since 6:00am...
And since the server poured me a very generous pour of sherry to go with my dessert... ;)
Goodnight.
