Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Twilight Time, both song and new DVD label, and now it is time for you to post until the twilight cows come home.

DR Ben - FYI: Scoutmob (http://scoutmob.com/new-york/) is currently offering a 50%-off deal for East of Eighth (http://scoutmob.com/new-york/deal/657).  All you - or any other DR - have to do is claim the deal on their website (or keep it on your smartphone). There's no fee and no obligation. However, this offer does expire June 15.

*Scoutmob (http://scoutmob.com/) is also available in other cities.

Good morning, all! I was out of bed and wide awake at 4 am, pondering the email response I'd written to the Master Toymaker, and I wrote another draft between 4 and 4:45. This one's nicer: I don't call him a pig although I did tell him I hope to never see or hear from him again. I went back to bed and slept fitfully with horrible dreams of broken friendships and betrayal unril 7:30.

I will shortly depart in the rain for Toyland to cart home more personal items. I would like everything out by Friday; it isn't much: about three bookshelves of books and scrapbooks, all the photocopies of the full scores to BABES IN TOYLAND that I copied in 1990 for The Houston Grand Opera, a few CDs that I may end up tossing. I have the piano and the computer to worry about, and if they're pitched, that's life. As far as I'm concerned, anything left belongs to the Institute and I suspect it will all become landfill.

After I bring home this first load today, I will call Joshie, learn about times for rehearsal this afternoon and tonight's dress, and plan my day.

Excelsior!

I am intrigued by the Twilight Time DVD label, although I am not wild about The Kremlin Letter - I shall look forward to future titles.  And of course I am excited to hear about the Kritzerland titles that MR BK mentioned in the notes.

TOD: So, with the death of the DVD industry, where does that place a niche company like the Criterion Collection? I'm still seeing handsomely packaged movies, such as a great new Japanese flick called "Still Walking," which has recipes in the movie booklet. Because the films are smaller to begin with, are they in a category like the one you wrote about?

I really liked GLEE last night.

I wanted to....and Kurt's "Blackbird" vocal was superb.  But Regionals reeked, IMO.

I'm so TIRED of over-processed voices (shrieking songs instead of singing them) passing for "live, on-stage" performances.

I just hope he will like me even though I don't watch movies.

(And that thrust "this" into my mind):

Will he like me when we meet?
Will the shy and quiet girl he's going to see
Be the girl the he's imagined me to be?
Will he like me?
Will he like the girl he sees?
If he doesn't, will he know enough to know?
That there's more of me than I may always show,
Will he like me?
Will he know that there's a world of love
Waiting to warm him?
How I'm hoping that his eyes and ears
Won't misinform him
Will he like me, who can say?
Oh, this evening seems a million years away
It's insanity to worry so all day
I'll try not to
Will he like me?
He's just got to
Will he like me?
He's just got to

Go to an Army/Navy store and find a canvas duffel bag or sea bag.

A sea bag has one strap that allows you to carry it on one shoulder.  A duffel bag often has two straps so you can carry it like an oversized backpack.

Either bag can alllow you to carry a lot of books.

I was supposed to speak at a seminar sponsored by them in April.   I decided not to do it.  I didn't have a very good experience when I chaired a committee there in the 90s and now this has reared its ugly head, so I decided to cancel.  I provided names of possible alternate speakers and it's about 6 weeks away, so I didn't really leave them in the lerch too much, but I just don't feel like dealing with it

I really liked GLEE last night.

I wanted to....and Kurt's "Blackbird" vocal was superb.  But Regionals reeked, IMO.

I'm so TIRED of over-processed voices (shrieking songs instead of singing them) passing for "live, on-stage" performances.

I also agree about the over-proccessed voices claiming to be "live, on-stage" performances.  It never sounds right...EVER! :P

I received a nice apology from the lady I do most of my licensing from - I really could stand no more today and I wrote a very strong e-mail and she apologized and said everyone over there is feeling a lot of stress from the new bosses, who simply do what new bosses always do - try to put everyone on the defensive and to justify their existence.  No one knows if they're going to be replaced but what these oafs don't realize is that these people are the ONLY people who've brought in money to the company in the last few years, and suddenly making them take hard attitudes to those of us who've been nothing buy loyal and wonderful and trouble free (not all labels are created equally and from what I understand several have been pains in the ASSES) will not help them earn more money.  I had ten titles being held and I let them all go yesterday, save for three that weren't part of the ten.  That is a loss of 25K for them and I don't think any other labels would be picking up those ten titles.  So, the new bosses will make a bad situation even worse and they will get what they deserve.  I will now be very circumspect about any further titles and will only do things I'm fairly certain of and never take chances on other titles.

Oh my, there were meetings and emails and all sorts of reactions to my email on the listserv by the big wigs in the organization.  Good grief, it wasn't that inflamatory.  I shared a concern I had based on the way a situation similar to the one we are facing today was handled back in the 1990s.  They got so excited and reacted so crazily that I get the feeling I may have been right about my concern....me thinks thou dost protest too much

No, DR Laura, I haven't mentioned it publicly yet.  Richard and I made a deposit yesterday on a fall river cruise in Germany with the Miami University Alumni Association.  We'll spend some time in Paris before and after the cruise.  And Rob and Mary Linda are planning to honeymoon in Canada.

What? The groom's parents don't always go on the honeymoon?

when Vixdad and I were married his folks flew in from England (where they were still living) and they did not fly out until 3 days after our wedding -- so we delayed our honeymoon.  On the Monday after our wedding we took my folks and his folks to NYC and took the CircleLine tour of Manhattan

Vixdad and I were doing a little canoodling  and his Mum jokingly made some comment about public shows of affection  to which I replied  'After all it's our honeymoon - didn't you enjoy the odd kiss on your honeymoon?"

She answered,,"Of course!  But I wasn't bloody fool enough to bring my inlaws with me!"

Depends on what kind of hawk it is. A kestrel (which is small) will eat grasshoppers and lizards and mice and smaller birds. I don't know about worms. Maybe if the worm was just sitting there it might.

Bigger hawks would go for rodents, other birds, etc. I once saw a Harris' Hawk try to take Tabby Tom, one of our feral cats that lives in the backyard. Tabby Tom swatted it away.

Oy! I just got an apology for yesterday's email. No, I think I will not go back to this.

The one the person sent prior to your response?

I've mailed no response yet. I am doing it Friday when I've got my things out so I can ask what I should do about my keys.

I doubt I will go back. This is the lull before the next bout of madness. I don't think that leopard will be changing spots.

I am in the apartment with two shopping bags of books. I also brought home Skip Kennon's BMI bag since I doubt he will be in the office before I turn in my keys this weekend.

elmore, did you send the rewritten e-mail?

No. It was just one more draft. I have to write a whole different one now. I must acknowledge the apology and be firm about how these ups and downs are sending me away from the job.

I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.

Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.

Lucky you! She's a wonderful lady.

Even though I've been on this website for a while, I sometimes momentarily forget that DR stands for Dear Reader,  so when I read that elmore thought Doctor Laura was a "wonderful lady" I was taken aback to say the least!

She may be a wonderful lady, but I will never let her operate on me.

The invited dress rehearsal of WHERE'S CHARLEY? was quite wonderful tonight. When I was leaving City Center after the afternoon rehearsal, I ran smack into Jonathan Tunick, who was waiting for Red Press, the orchestra contractor. The two of them took me out to a lovely Italian dinner on West 55th Street. We were joined by Bill Elliot who's orchestrating the new ANYTHING GOES at the Roundabout. It was a wonderful gathering, and then Bill went back to the Porter show and Red, Jonathan, and I went to WHERE'S CHARLEY?

After the performance I rode uptown in a taxi with Jonathan, who's off to London to conduct a recording he's arranged for a singer named Kate Bush.

Just finished listening to "Once on This Island," which always makes me feel good. It says the same story as the novel, "Ceremony," that I'm supposed to be writing about, but it says it so much better and in more interesting ways. I'm going to have to include some snippet of it in the paper.

I'm listening to the music from an upcoming release, the one where I discovered we had pristine sources for a major cult horror film.  It's been released on CD twice before and I have a rather intimate history with it, but that release was thirty-four minutes and taken from a third generation 7 1/2 ips tape.  We've now got the first generation 15ips tapes.  Unfortunately, the CDR that was made for me today has music only coming out of the left channel (it's mono, but you can't get any level that way and the sonics are all scrunched over there).  So, he'll have to check and make sure the uploaded files are correct - if they aren't he'll have to retransfer tomorrow.  If they are, I'll have him run me new CDRs.

I'm quite tired, especially of listening to music only coming out of my left speaker - but what music.  And it does sound like we've got everything here - which means a good fifteen minutes more music than the other release, maybe even more.

Good Evening!

Thanks for all of the Moving Vibes. They really did help today.

I ended up spending about fours hours getting my now-old apartment back in order. There was lots of dust, and I also had a few more things to set aside for a pick-up tomorrow.

I'm staying at a friend's place for the next couple of nights. I may be heading down to Virginia on Sunday, but with the crackdown on the Chinatown busses after two very horrible and unfortunate accidents over the past few days, I have a feeling the schedules may not be so "available". And then onto Chicago on Wednesday for a week, and then once I'm back, I move into my new place.
