I'm flying off to Scottsdale today.

Not only will I be attending Festival of the West, but I will also get to meet DR Laura, face-to-face.

Lucky you! She's a wonderful lady.

Even though I've been on this website for a while, I sometimes momentarily forget that DR stands for Dear Reader,  so when I read that elmore thought Doctor Laura was a "wonderful lady" I was taken aback to say the least!

I thought so, too, for a moment.

DR Ginny, your upcoming trip sounds like fun!

Did those looking at your passport accuse you of being from Kenya?

Just about, DR MBarnum!  I'm sure a bored clerk in Middletown, OH, doesn't see Oregon documentation very often.

Laura do Hawks eat worms?  Yesterday we saw a hawk on our driveway before we startled it up into the tree.  It went flew part way down to the ground a few times and we couldn't figure out why, except unless they eat worms.

Back from submitting our passport applications.  The clerk looked at my Oregon birth certificate the way some people look at President Obama's.

OREGON?!!!!

I didn't know you were not an American!

Thanks, DRs Laura, Cillaliz, FJL, and Vixmom.

To clarify:  Rob and Mary Linda will honeymoon in Toronto in September - alone.  Richard and I will go to Europe in October - alone.  Richard's passport had expired a long time ago and Rob and I have never had passports, so, yes, we all went to the Clerk of Courts office together.

At least the confusion of my statements prompted DR Vixmom's great story about HER honeymoon with her in-laws!

This morning I lead my hiking group on my longer hike, plus some, on my usual trails.  Had it not been raining hard when I left the house I would have taken my camera.  I missed out on snowed covered mountains and beautiful views.  At least the rain stopped and the views were visible.

We didn't see the bushes moving and the hawk seemed to be eying our driveway.

Maybe it was a nearsighted hawk  and it mistook your driveway for a river

Depends on what kind of hawk it is. A kestrel (which is small) will eat grasshoppers and lizards and mice and smaller birds. I don't know about worms. Maybe if the worm was just sitting there it might.

Bigger hawks would go for rodents, other birds, etc. I once saw a Harris' Hawk try to take Tabby Tom, one of our feral cats that lives in the backyard. Tabby Tom swatted it away.

My MIL came on our "honeymoon." And she came knocking on the motel door at about 10 p.m. with a snack for my DH.

My MIL tells a story about her MIL.  When she was about to cook her first meal for her new husband she asked his Mum what his favorite meal was --- the wicked old bat named all the foods he HATED as his favorites

and my mothers' MIL!

Oh dear - I remember clearly standing in my grandmothers' kitchen on some holiday or another ,  while she washed dishes and my Mom dried...(THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES)

"Oh my poor Sonny.....:" she would sigh. "He had so many girlfriends.......".    and then she would look meaningfully at my mom....
