Title: THE TIFFANY'S OF TRANSFERS
Post by: bk on September 20, 2011, 12:49:42 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the Tiffany's of notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently having breakfast at Tiffany's - some are having MOOfins, and some are having huevos rancheros.

TOD: Audrey Hepburn makes most any movie special. If you cry at "Breakfast at Tiffany's," then I cry at "Robin and Marian."

Other favorites include "Roman Holiday," "Wait Until Dark," "They All Laughed," "Charade," "Two for the Road," "Funny Face" and "Breakfast."

As for Mancini, just about everything he worked on, too, though "Victor/Victoria" is a favorite. "Breakfast," too. And "Peter Gunn."

Or else ask people who watch the preview to "sort-of promise" they'll also tune in when it's on YouTube, which I assume is kosher

Good morning!  I emailed my bank last night but decided to check out the website again to day to see if there was something else I can do.  I found a 24 hour number where I could report my debit card lost, so I did that.  I also checked on the account activity on the phone number (I can't remember my online log in id) and it's all recognizable.  So, I think the checkbook is probably in my car.  If not, maybe some good samaritan has it and is either sending it to me or turned it in somewhere.

Good morning, all! I slept late, much later than I intended. More Drama Book Shop dreams as well as others I don't remember now.

I have to get to the NYPL today, so that's a priority, and book my Amtrak tickets to DC.

DR Jose, the Capitol Hill Suites are filled next week, and I like staying there since it's next door to the Library of Congress.

DR Cillaliz, I hope the checkbook islocated at your home and that all is good. Best of luck with your presentation!

BK, I agree completely with you about BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S; it's still one of my faves, too.

TOD:
Mancini:  Charade, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Victor/Victoria
Hepburn: Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade, My Fair Lady

They said that they still had the movies, but they were all up on "Cloud".

Morning all. I arrived in Istanbul late last night, with my sister and niece (my brother's daughter) after a rather bumpy flight. Had problems at first in accessing the hotel wi fi network but am relieved to be connected to the internet world again! I requested a change to the room I was given because it was not what I had asked for so that caused some hassle as well. Very (too) hot here but a very fascinating city with lots to see and do.

I found my disc of COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK to watch last night - MR BK wrote about it here a couple of months ago....interesting without being entertaining.....

Another movie on the disc I had burned was JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF  THE SUN, which stars Roy Thinnes and Lynn Loring (then Mrs Thinnes) - lots of talking, but a movie I have liked since I saw it at the drive in about 42 years ago.

Thanks all for the vibes.  The argument went as well as it could go.  Now it's just up to the three judges who heard arguments to decide. In the even better news department, my bank says there has been no new activity on my account.  So, no matter where the checkbook and debit card are (I need to get a new one issued now) no one has taken all my money from the bank and I've reported it so I should be ok

DR Ginny,   my plane doesn't leave until 5:00 PM.  I'm planning to go to the old courthouse where the Dredd Scott case was heard. it's now a museum and is only a couple blocks from here.   I am trying to figure out how I'm going back to the airport.  There's a train station not far from here and the metrolink is a lot cheaper than what I paid for the cab.  Since I don't have a debit card that works, I need to be careful spending cash.   On the other hand, I can turn in my receipts for what I pay in cab fare and  be reimbursed, so maybe that's easier.  Gives me more time to play,.

And speaking of free ebooks...

The University of Chicago Press (http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/freeEbook.html) offers one each month. It's been quite a varied selection so far this year. Everything from Roger Ebert to Richard Stark. You just sign up on their site, and they send you a link to download the month's selection for free. They come in an Adobe Digital Editions format. I'm not sure how compatible that is with various e-readers, but, again, it's free.

Am expecting my Blu-ray discs of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Dumbo" by express delivery sometime during this day.

I have received my region-free Blu-ray player but have not hooked it up.   When my Blu-ray "Fantastic Planet" arrives from the UK, it will be the inauguaral playee on said new region-free Blu-ray player (after it is hooked up).  I guess the question that is now begged is whether the new region-free Blu-ray player will need special attention in being hooked up...or whether a hooker will be required.  A hooking service, perhaps?   (Am certain I can do it with minimal reference to enclosed manual).

~~~Hooker Vibes for DR Ron!!~~~
Did I read on these pages last week that someone received a "free" Kindle?
Where does one find, or how does one qualify, for a "free" Kindle?
Ron, I received a free Kindle because I redeemed points that I had accrued by using my (credit union) debit card.  The points were good for many, many things but there was nothing that I really wanted until I found out that a Kindle was available.  I had more than enough points for it, so I got it.
It arrived last week and I've already purchased several titles. :D
Another frustrating day with the NYPL; things I once found on historical newspapers online I cannot locate today. I don't know if the pianist is Miss Louie or Miss Lottie Mills, although i suspect Louie is a typesetter error. On the plus side, I ran into my friend David Charles Abell, a fantastic conductor, and I got to visit with Bob Kosovsky, my favorite music librarian.
And so, to work.
Morning all. I arrived in Istanbul late last night, with my sister and niece (my brother's daughter) after a rather bumpy flight. Had problems at first in accessing the hotel wi fi network but am relieved to be connected to the internet world again! I requested a change to the room I was given because it was not what I had asked for so that caused some hassle as well. Very (too) hot here but a very fascinating city with lots to see and do.
;DR Doug R - If you get a chance, could you stop in and say Hi to my friend, Berke. He's in Instanbul now too. ;)
I take the bus from the airport to the District Office. And back. There's a train station at one of the transit stations, but I don't think it goes to the airport. In fact, the bus doesn't go to the airport -- I have to walk a half mile or so to get to the airport from the bus stop.
On the day that we sailed out of Boston to the Titanic site, they filled, I think it was, two or three display cases with jewelry and other items recovered from the wreck site.  Nobody, including yours truly, even noticed until late that evening; that none of the cases had locks on them or was there anyone guarding them.
Watching Glee--they used the very same arrangement of Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead!  that Barbra and Harold Arlen used.   It was very enjoyable but not comparable to the original.
Sadly, as that thief will find out, there is little chance of ever selling any of the pieces.
Sadly for the thief or because that reduces the chances it won't be found.  Maybe the thief just wants to keep it.
Well that is true.  I am sure that there are collectors out there who would pay a king's ransom for something that came from the Titanic.
I'm leaving work.  Tomorrow, we have our All Staff Training Day.  It's the first we've had in a couple of years...maybe three (the previous one or two were cancelled to save the library money).  We'll have a main speaker, several break-out sessions and none that I'm even remotely interested in, but a free lunch!  Build-your-own burritos.  Sounds good to me. :D
Speaking of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, I just read where DINER is also making its way to the stage as a musical.
Sheesh...
Sheryl Crow is writing the score for DINER.   That sounds interesting
See, to me Diner sounds like a worse idea than Sleepless in Seattle - what about the film Diner seems to cry out to be musicalized - answer: Nothing.
I think they're going for movies that had great soundtracks. Some sort of amazing jukebox compilation that the new score is meant to emulate. "Ghost" is another. And "Dirty Dancing," etc. It's like "Shrek." It's all about the money, especially when they threw "I'm a Believer" in there because the audience was conditioned to expect it.
Morning all. I arrived in Istanbul late last night, with my sister and niece (my brother's daughter) after a rather bumpy flight. Had problems at first in accessing the hotel wi fi network but am relieved to be connected to the internet world again! I requested a change to the room I was given because it was not what I had asked for so that caused some hassle as well. Very (too) hot here but a very fascinating city with lots to see and do.
;DR Doug R - If you get a chance, could you stop in and say Hi to my friend, Berke. He's in Instanbul now too. ;)
If I come across him I certainly will  :D
Have fun. And safe home.
Had a lovely rehearsal with Alet and then spent four hours in the editing room doing the final fine tuning.  I'll get copies tomorrow and watch them all one last time before locking them.  He'll be adding the end credits for each episode tomorrow.  One of the episodes has been quite difficult to get right - the set-up scene worked very well, but the three musical numbers made the episode too long - we've been trying to figure out how to snip about a minute off and we finally did that today by eliminating the opening verse (slow) to one song, and the final verse to another - it plays MUCH better now and is now the same running time of the other two episodes - about 6:30 with front and end titles.  I don't really want any episode to be longer than that, and until we made those cuts that episode was coming in at close to 7:40.
And her sister, Phylicia Rashad, also received a nomination.
And now I need to get ready for the next 48-96 hours. We have a Noon(!!!) matinee tomorrow in addition to our regular 7:30pm Wednesday night show. And then there's a post-show piano bar tomorrow night. And then I'll be taking the red-eye bus back to NYC. Then a lunch meeting. Then Follies. Then back to DC on Friday morning. Another lunch meeting. Then a put-in rehearsal for our Curly/Dream Curly. Then the 8:00 show followed by a post-show meet-up with a friend who's coming down from NYC for the weekend. Then two shows on Saturday, two shows on Monday. -Then the final preview of Parade at Ford's Theatre.
Whew!
Time to put a sweat shirt on.  It's starting to be cold at night.
Goodnight everyone.  I'm very tired by this time of night.
Just stayed home and did laundry, trying to move things around for a free antique 5' couch i'm bringing home on Saturday.  Wonderful carved legs, will need to be recovered later.
 :)
The Ovation Awards are a sad joke - but I'm really happy Alet got one - she actually got two - one solo, one ensemble - same show.
Just finished watching the season premiere of GLEE and the first episode of Zooey Deschanel's new sitcom.
And?
I wanted to know about the new sitcom BEFORE I watch it.
I watched it and really enjoyed it.  It's somewhat similar to "Happy Endings," which I also like.
