Well, you've read the notes, the notes bid a fond farewell to 2011 and a happy hello to 2012, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they promise they'll be home in 2012.
-
And the word of the day is: MICKLE!
-
Hi. This is funny. I finally have access to a computer & I'm all alone.
-
We are anchored off of Bora Bora. Tomorrow we shall see if it is as beautiful as the photos I've seen.
Today we snorkled a little in-between the rain on a little island by Taha.
Tonight I have been watching an enjoyable show of broadway tunes performed by our cruise director Michael Shapiro who is from NY. Does anyone know him? If so please email me. I can see email on Keith's iPad.
Don't know if I'll be able to post again during the trip. We are heading to our cabin.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Good morning, all! I was awake at 6:30 with the Act One song from DEAREST ENEMY, "The Hermits," running through my head. Perhaps it's in my head because I had just awakened from a dream in which Bruce Pomahac and I were editing it. Maybe we were writing? Perhaps he and I are Rodgers & Hart?
So, I am awake but groggy. I cannot have had more than six hoours sleep last night. As soon as the laundromat is open, I've got a lot of laundry to do, and then my day is my own. Since most of it will be spent dealing with the clutter of the apartment, I know it's going to be grisly.
Tonight will be as quiet and peaceful as I can make it.
-
Happy New Year!
-
I am spending New Year's Eve day - working. But I think we may close about 4 o'clock.....depending on my work partner....we shall see.
No particular plans this evening.....except to be here on HHW.
-
Things I learned in Yesterday's Posts:
DR CILLA LIZ is campaigning for Wendall Wilkie....a good choice.
DR TCB still has a horse's behind for a doctor.
DR JMK's parents met in Pittsburgh, and his father worked for Sears & Roebuck.
DR JOSE does not have a show today.
MR BK is beginning his new book.
The horse narrates WAR HORSE, book version.
-
Great to hear from DR JANE!
-
And the word of the day is: MICKLE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: IT'S A GREAT BIG WONDERFUL WORLD
(AND A VERY HAPPY HEALTHY AND WONDERFUL NEW YEAR TO ALL YOU HAINSIES AND KIMLETS)
-
Off to work. Oh well. Last day of work for 2011!
-
We want to take Rex back to the vet because he's not acting well at all.
-
There's my exciting news for the day.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about to head out to have breakfast with Edwina. :)
-
~~~~~CONTINUED VIBES FOR DC REX~~~~~
-
New Year's Eve morning greetings! Richard and I had a very nice afternoon/evening yesterday - a crowded mid-afternoon showing of WAR HORSE, dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, and a short browse at Barnes & Noble. We are home all day today and will watch the Liberty Bowl, with University of Cincinnati and Vanderbilt. Go, Bearcats!
-
This has been making the rounds on the Book of Face this morning, and, well... It seems worthy of posting here on HHW too. Especially today...
TOD:
There is really no New Year's Eve that stands out in my memory. In recent years, my wife and I have often turned in before Midnight.
:-\
I hope that everybody here has a Happy and SAFE New Year!
:)
As for the Topic of the Day...
The first one that comes to mind is December 31, 1999. -The big(?) "Y2K" one.
I was playing Guys & Dolls at Arena Stage at the time, and they planned a huge New Year's Eve evening: reception, performance, party, champagne, custom gift bags, etc. Well... Because of the whole Y2K thing - and because it was also New Year's Eve... Well...
Only one other show in DC at that time had a performance that night too, the touring production of Chicago, but they at least moved their curtain time up in order to allow their audience members not to get "trapped" in DC since they were going to be closing off the bridges in and out of DC for a period of time due to the security concerns. Well...
Long-ish story short-ish: A few days before the performance, the price of the Gala Tickets went from $100... to $75... to $25... to "Bring Your Friends and Family for Free!"... And we still ended up with a not-full house.
The show went well. The party was fun. And I ended up with some extra gift bags and bottles of champagne to take home once the bridges were reopened.
However, I felt really bad for Steve that night. Since he was in charge of the medical records system for HCA in Richmond, he was required to camp out at the hospital and keep an eye on things should Y2K end up messing up their computers. We did get to talk on the phone throughout the evening, but at least I had a bunch of other people around me. He was sort of stuck there by himself, except for whatever doctors, nurses and patients happened to be at the hospital that night too.
The bright side: the whole Y2K thing never happened. ...And I finally threw out some of those still unopened champagne bottles sometime around 2006. ;)
More vibes for Rex!!!
Sending more love to TCB
-
Exceptionally mild today. At the cafe people were sitting outdoors which is unheard of in December.
-
I must stop all this bacon eating before I turn into a pig - what do you mean it's too late? I had bacon, sausage and egg for breakfast and then couldn't resist a bacon roll in the cafe for lunch because it looked so delicious. My excuse is that it's holiday time. I will aim for getting back to slightly more healthy eating in 2012 - which I think is not far off.
Why do I keep writing about food?
-
We want to take Rex back to the vet because he's not acting well at all.
Oh dear. I once had a cat who had to have several teeth taken out and she was very under the weather for a day or two.
Extra strong vibes for Rex.
-
Odd Karma o' the Day Department: I always check both eBay and Amazon for used CDs when I'm scouting for stuff to purchase, but the other day I stupidly ordered one on Amazon that I had seen for about $1 cheaper on eBay (yes, yes, I am that cheap). So it arrived yesterday and I opened it today and what should be in the jewel case but a dollar!
-
Speaking of bacon: Betsy's boss got her a bacon ornament (no, I'm not kidding--it's a huge, spangled plastic representation of a slice of bacon) as an example of the most non-Jewish gift evah! :)
-
They gave Rex some fluids and an anti-nausea shot.
I'm up, the sun is shining, and the jog shall begin soon.
My soup is ready for the party tonight.
I'm making another batch of my Four Bulb Garlic Dip for a do tonight. I wonder if I should make a small warning sign to post in the bowl.
-
I'm spending the day doing some light cleaning in the bedrooms and listening to music. I might run out to pick up a few 2012 calendars, too.
-
If I don't get back on today, y'all enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations. May you all be safe and happy and joyous!
-
For all my little family here on Haineshisway - I wish you health (always first, of course), happiness, love, meaningful work, prosperity and wads of fun throughout the coming year. A major infusion of luck. Astonishment. Reflection. Evolution. An appreciation of your best self under optimum circumstances.
Bruce, you prolific SOB, enjoy ever more satisfying and fulfilling accomplishments!
Abundant blessings, all!
-
Well, my goodness! It looks like we need to get our posting frenzy in gear. It is already less than 12 hours until East Coast New Year, and we are only on page two.
-
Hello to the lovely DR PennyO.
-
I'm spending the day doing some light cleaning in the bedrooms and listening to music. I might run out to pick up a few 2012 calendars, too.
How dirty can the lights in your bedrooms be?
-
Happy (almost) New year to PennyO and Ben!
-
Hi. This is funny. I finally have access to a computer & I'm all alone.
Damn! I missed Jane.
-
Typical of this December, we are having a blah weather day in the Pacific Northwet. Cloudy, chilly, but dry. We have had strong winds every night for the last three nights. Not enough to knock out our power, but strong enough to wake me up.
-
Jose, I have been meaning to ask you if any of your family was affected by the terrible flooding in the Philippines?
-
My soup is ready for the party tonight.
What kind of soup, Laura?
Good Afternoon!
Brunch at Sidewalk Cafe was lots of fun. Edwina ended up toasting a couple she has been waiting on for a couple of years who are finally getting married next week. She shared her "knowledge" of "The Three Rings of Marriage":
1) The Engagement Ring
2) The Wedding Ring
3) The F*cking Suffer-Ring
;D
It was actually a very sweet toast to the Happy Couple.
:)
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day have always been a weird holiday for me. I have never quite understood the idea of celebrating the end of yet another year in my life. Sorry, but that has always been the way I have felt. Even when I used to drink heavily, I didn't enjoy it, because it was always considered amateur drunk night.
-
Jose, I have been meaning to ask you if any of your family was affected by the terrible flooding in the Philippines?
Tom - Thanks for asking. I asked my parents the other night about this since I've never been sure exactly which part of the Philippines my relatives live in. Thankfully, no one in our family has been affected by the storms and flooding. The part most of my relatives live in does experience flooding every year during the tsunami season, but it's such a regular occurrence, that it's just a part of life for a couple of weeks each year.
-
Back from a quick run to Staples for
unicorn blood printer ink cartridges. Now I can finish the paperwork I tried to get done before our mail was picked up. Oh, well, it can wait until Tuesday to go out...
It's kind of unseasonably warm here in Richmond, and the clouds keep coming and going in the sky.
I'm still not sure what I'm doing tonight. I did call Steve to see if he wanted to head somewhere for an early dinner, but he seemed to be in cocooning mode, so... One of the local theatres is hosting an open mic, piano bar type of New Year's Eve celebration. I may pop in there for a few. Or not.
-
However, while I was out earlier, I did stop to buy a can of Mrs. Fearnow's Black-Eyed Peas & Stewed Tomatoes (seasoned with Country Ham) and some sparkling grape juice.
And some lottery tickets. :)
Ginny, what network and what time is the Liberty Bowl? I am getting sick of watching footballl with no excitement for either team.
-
I also took a drive through some of my old neighborhoods. One of them hasn't changed a bit. And one of them was hardly recognizable.
-
And now it's time to tackle that project from 2009-ish...
Laters...
Ginny, what network and what time is the Liberty Bowl? I am getting sick of watching footballl with no excitement for either team.
DR TCB - the Liberty Bowl is at 3:30 EST (about 12 minutes from now) and I have 3 different sources telling me 3 different networks. It's either ESPN, ABC, or NBC...
One of my former co-workers will be featured on a float tomorrow in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The float represents Organ Donations. Her name is Janice Langbehn, and five years ago, while on vaction in Florida, her partner of 18 years suffered a massive and fatal brain hemorrhage. She, and their three adopted children were refused the right to be with Lisa becasue they were a same sex couple. She later sued the hospital, and last year she received a personal phone call from President Obama telling her that based on her story he had changed the national policy for any hospital in the country that receives Federal Funding regarding same-sex couples. She also was given the Presidential Citizen Award in October from President Obama for her efforts. Janice is qute something.
If you have seven minutes to spare, her speech is quite well done.
Hello, everyone.
I am cleaning today. This little apartment was overdue for a thorough cleaning and it has been bugging me. I won't do it all today, but I wanted to do the worst of it. I have more tossing to do, too. I started that last week. I find it works best in small chunks--lots of mini projects.
-
I'm glad to see DR TCB here and in good form. Did you have a retirement luncheon or was that earlier?
-
I don't recall if I mentioned this most interesting piece of HHW-related news. I learned the other day that cows have best friends. Truly. In a given herd, some cows prefer the company of certain other cows over others. They like to stick together and be companionable. They suffer separation anxiety if they are separated. I learned that from the BBC.
-
Oh, and
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!
-
Must now do Round Two.
TTFN.
-
I'm glad to see DR TCB here and in good form. Did you have a retirement luncheon or was that earlier?
No, no luncheon. Maybe after the first of the year. A friend took me out to lunch for a great buffet at the local casino, but that was it.
I'm the same. I've never been into celebrating New Year's Eve. What's good about another year having gone by!! When I was young it wasn't something the family celebrated and very few people did in those days. In the UK it only became more common to celebrate New Year's Eve when New Years Day became a national holiday in 1974. I think America has always celebrated New Year's Eve more than we in the UK though.
-
My soup is ready for the party tonight.
What kind of soup, Laura?
Black bean, vegetarian, so maybe Sandra will eat some.
-
TOD - 29 years ago Richard and I were in NYC from Christmas Day to New Year's Day. On New Year's Eve, we saw EVITA on Broadway (starring Karen Akers) and just before midnight we went out in front of our 7th Ave. hotel, a few blocks north of Times Square. We could see the ball drop, but we weren't in the huge crush of people.
It's usually pretty quiet for us - a movie and carry-in Chinese food and home well before midnight. This year, because we wanted to see the Liberty Bowl, we went out yesterday. Having a 5:30 wake-up tomorrow, I may not even see the entrance of 2012.
-
I just posted this article on my Facebook page, but I thought I would share it with my friends here at HHW. I think it is a great article for the New Year!
I was thinking of watching one of the Pay-Per-View movies on Direct TV as something a little different to do this evening. But, I am not really interested in watching any of the movies that they are offering; and certainly not for $5.99 to 7.99 a film. Bah!
-
I guess I will probably just watch SHERLOCK HOLMES. Either that, or just go to bed.
-
Back from a little lunch, picking up one package and no important envelope (I've written a little e-mail about it), filling the motor car with gas, and now I am in for the rest of the day and evening and looking forward to our partay.
I wonder what ever happened to Terri Klausner, who played Eva at all of the matinees of VELVITA on Broadway?
I've worked some, although it's hard to see a dent in this clutter, lay down for a bit, and now I'm contemplating dinner. Thanks to my six hours of sleep last night, I suspect that I will crash relatively early.
In 1973, Middletown OH friends Jim Martin, Ron Fetzer and Paul Scardina threw a huge New Year's Eve party at Paul's place. He was the director of the Middletown Arts Center and he lived in a huge old house in West Middletown, at the top of the hill. The weather had been fierce and it was an ordeal getting to the party because the house was up a steep hill and the roads were very icey.
Ron Fetzer was a high school drama teacher at Middletown High and the tech director for the Campus-Community Players, which was going a joint production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, in which I was playing the Major General, with the Middletown Symphony in February or March 1974; it's a blur now. Jim Martin was the symphony's conductor, Paul was choreographing the production, and Ron may have been directing it. I don't remember now. The party was a cast party as well as huge party for other friends from the arts Center and other Middletown environs.
I remember that the party began around 8pm, and I recall some of the events:
1. my brother Macbeth got into a tequila shot contest with Ron's wife Jan, who drank him under the table, then raced him through the snow around the house, and when he slipped on the snow and fell down the hill,carried him back up it. He was married to his first wife then, a lovely lady who was everything Lady M is not: kind, generous, nurturing, friendly, and not particularly narcissistic.
2. Helen Rivero got totally smashed and ended up chasing Paul all over the house about 4am, determined to get into his pants. He's gay; she failed. He was a dancer and he moved fast.
3. Around 6am, the stragglers - about 20 of us - had eggs and bacon for breakfasy before we left Paul's place. I got home around 9am and went directly to bed.
Best New Year's Eve. Ever.
-
Are we getting a new OUTSIDE THE BOX tomorrow?
-
DR Elmore - that party was right before I met you and many of the others. Sorry to have missed the party, but I sure enjoyed your story!
Ginny, are you sure you didn't see Lonit Ackerman instead of Karen Akers? I don't think that Karen Akers made her Broadway debut until GRAND HOTEL.
I do wonder now where many of those people are now. My friend Loyce married Jim Martin - they were dating during that period - and divorced around 1983. I still see Loyce, but I haven't spoken to Jim since then. He was a real philanderer, and when he headed to LA after she threw him out of the house, she spent that Memorial Day weekend - around 1981, as I recall - having a breakdown on West 82nd Street. I'm glad I was there for a friend, but it was a horribly fraught weekend.
Helen Rivero's sister Rebeca married Bill Cope, my best friend at the time. She, her sister, and Paul are now Facebook friends. I remember Bill's sister Linda was at the party but I've not heard from her in several years. I also rememer that the house was packed with people but I cannot put any other names into the memory bank. I had for a long time a coupel of photos from the party, including one of all of the stragglers at breakfast, but that's now sitting in a carton at Miami University.
-
Hello! Like DR elmore, I'm taking a break from my organizing and it's hard to tell I've done anything. Just matching CD and DVD cases with their proper discs has taken a while!
-
TOD: My most memorable New Year's Eve would also have to be 1999/2000. My friend and I arrived in Las Vegas to see Barbra at her first (well, second) concert in many years. (We went to the New Year's Day concert--she also performed New Year's Eve).
-
Speaking of Ms. S., while cleaning I've been watching "On a Clear Day..." for the first time on my modern flat-screen TV. I still love it If only Yves Montand had not been chosen to be her leading man...
Count me among the what's-the-big-deal crowd. That said...my most memorable New Year's Eve was December 1995, when I was in New York City! We saw some great shows, my forehead was on "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee", I saw Betty Buckley in Sunset Boulevard, Avery Brooks in Robeson and Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria! And our New Year's Eve performance was a special added show of "Stomp" that ended at midnight. Fortunately, we missed the Times Square crowd. ;D
DR JMK, Betsy's situation sounds like mine - trying to be a true blue Michigan Wolverine surrounded by Ohio State Buckeyes. Tell her to hang in there and "On, Wisconsin!"
Well, Happy New Year's Eve, Everyone! Party safely and have a great new year!! I'm off to my sister's. We're all meeting there before we go to eat at Budd Bay Cafe (http://www.buddbaycafe.com/) (our reservation is for 6:30 pm). It's become our New Year's Eve tradition. After that, we'll probably go back to my sister's house for a while, but I'm sure that we'll all be back at our respective homes long before midnight. At least, I plan to be home before midnight. :D
My most memorable... probably 2 years ago in Times Square. Greg came in on a train at almost 11PM so we didn't have a chance to see the actual ball drop, but to be in the midst of all those people, in the snow, was still mighty great!
You're welcome to come on over here.
-
Happy New Year to all you beautiful people on this here site!
My most memorable... probably 2 years ago in Times Square. Greg came in on a train at almost 11PM so we didn't have a chance to see the actual ball drop, but to be in the midst of all those people, in the snow, was still mighty great!
Edi! What a wonderful surprise!
I am trying to decide if I want ot have scrambled eggs and sausage for dinner, or just order a pizza?
I'm having a frozen pizza from Germany --the brand is Dr Oetker. Anyone heard of it? It was on sale for $3!
I am afraid not. Good price!
-
I'm off to play some music with the boys but wanted to say hey to everyone! Hope to check back in before it's 2012 in CA!
-
Nice seeing you here, DR Edisaurus!
-
Well, it's a Barbra-day for sure (at least in my place). I'm now watching her 2006 concert on blu-ray.
TCB, KevinH, FJL, George, JMK and 3 Guests are viewing this topic.
Boys night in?
We're staying in the building, going to a neighbor, but the party doesn't start for a couple of hours.
-
Richard and I just had a yummy dinner of sausage, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes - reminded me of Germany!
That sounds really good!
-
Last week, I discoved this great new pizza chain around here called Garlic Jim's. So I go online and the site no longer recognizes me or my address. So, I call the store and (surprise surprise) they have already changed hands. Swell!
-
One more post.
Good Evening!
I went to Mass with my parents. January is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics, Feast of the Holy Family... No... Wait, I just checked. It's not "Mary, Mother of God" day. Hmm... I wonder when that happened? In any case...
Hello, I'm back. I did Round Two of my cleaning, then did a grocery run. Now I'm in for the night.
-
Happy belated birthday to DR DakotaCelt!
-
RE: the US Girl with The Dragon Tattoo movie. How was the violence compared to the Swedish version? I enjoyed those movies a lot. But I really found it too violent for my taste. I see the movie in the US is rated 13. So i'm guessing it's not as violent?
-
Nice to hear from DR Jane!
-
Sorry about your doctor's experience DR TCB!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Happy New Year everyone!
-
Good Evening!
The choir director at their church really likes wind chimes. ::)
So do I! But I only use them for characters who are off the deep end.
-
I can't recall any particularly memorable NYEs. I, too, am in the what's-the-big-deal camp--always have been. Plus, I don't enjoy drinking and don't want the company of the inebriated.
-
After church, my parents stopped off at a gas station to buy some more lottery tickets, and we also picked up some of tonight's dinner at their favorite Chinese place. The rest of the meal was composed of some lobster bisque and salmon filets that my father had bought at CostCo.
-
Vibes for poor little Rex. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
And I've shredded a shoebox and a half of old bills and papers from 2003-04. I think I'll go through just one more box before calling it quits for the night, well, for the year. ;)
-
Good for you, Jose! I have plenty of that awaiting me. But that's another day.
-
I'm going to watch Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin tonight (i'm assuming they are on tonight).
-
Good for you, Jose! I have plenty of that awaiting me. But that's another day.
Alas, there's 12 more boxes to go... And I really thought the whole project was going to take an hour or so. Ah, well. However, one box is filled with old computer disks - the 3-1/2 kind. That one can go right into the dumpster.
-
DR TCB, moving story about your former co-worker!
DR Jeanne - ...And then there are the storage boxes of old papers in my storage unit in NYC, so... But progress is progress, I guess. ::)
I find that tossing is very, very time-consuming. You must look at every item, even if you KNOW 90% will be tossed. The question is: WHICH 90%?! I tend to keep too much, but how do you know what you'll need?
TOD - 29 years ago Richard and I were in NYC from Christmas Day to New Year's Day. On New Year's Eve, we saw EVITA on Broadway (starring Karen Akers) and just before midnight we went out in front of our 7th Ave. hotel, a few blocks north of Times Square. We could see the ball drop, but we weren't in the huge crush of people.
Ginny, are you sure you didn't see Lonit Ackerman instead of Karen Akers? I don't think that Karen Akers made her Broadway debut until GRAND HOTEL.
Yes, DR TCB, I think you're right. Unfortunately, I no longer have the Playbills from the 8 shows we saw in 7 days on that trip.
I'd say it was Loni Ackerman too.
Unless you happened to be seeing Nine, but that didn't arrive on Broadway until the May of 1992.
*And I have to say the "thought" of Karen Akers belting out those high-G's in "A New Argentina", well... That's quite a thought! ::)
-
I'm going to watch Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin tonight (i'm assuming they are on tonight).
They are! They are! I can't wait.
It's usually pretty quiet for us - a movie and carry-in Chinese food and home well before midnight. This year, because we wanted to see the Liberty Bowl, we went out yesterday. Having a 5:30 wake-up tomorrow, I may not even see the entrance of 2012.
I wonder what ever happened to Terri Klausner, who played Eva at all of the matinees of VELVITA on Broadway?
Terri is still singing. She had a one-woman show off-Broadway a few years ago, and she's also directing now.
OK... Time to get a-shredding again...
I think so. I know it's CNN.
It's not posted in my tv, so i wasn't positive they were still going to be on. When i look at the cnn site they have tons of news. So much that i couldn't even find a schedule guide (like most websites have). Anyhow it did say "kathy and anderson". But i didn't see any details. Hopefully they will be very funny. Could use a laugh.
I'm ready to partay! I'm ready for the Bash. I'm going to eat a little ham and then I'm here for the duration.
-
I've given a lot of thought about whether to put up the new episode tomorrow and my thinking is that no one will be here to see it - everyone will be off doing things, so I'm thinking Monday's the day, if not Tuesday.
Would those be ham chunks?
I settled for scrambled eggs sans suasage. Very unsatifactory.
So, Fred, when can we learn more about the new show (based on a story by Fred Landau)?
Oh I'm fine. Didn't mean anything by the comment. Just that it would be nice to laugh since they are so funny together!
Hope you are feeling better.
Hoping I can stay awake for Anderson and Kathy. Right now I'm watching the Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy.
LOL about the chimes.
Feast of the Holy Family is usually the first Sunday after Christmas, but since the first Sunday after Christmas lands on January 1 - already the Solemnity of Mary, the holy day "trumps" the Feast of the Holy Family. Always sad as there is no excuse to sing "The Snow Lay on the Ground" which is the only carol that really mentions the Holy Family.
-
Prime Rib is in the oven. Everything else is ready to cook - fingerling potatoes, broccoli, and I'm debating whether to make Yorkshire Pudding, which seems really easy to make.
The DP is at the hotel (Four Seasons of Silicone Valley) plating his amazing dessert and probably won't be home until later. But it's sure is nice to finally have a chance to hang out here at HHW!
-
Good evening and happy almost new year
-
I was invited to a party tonight but really didn't feel like going. Since everyone I know has been sick lately, I said I didn't feel well (which is sort of true) and stayed home. I'm really glad I did
Thanks for the explanation, DR Matthew.
-And I love "The Snow Lay On the Ground" too! Venite adoremus dominum...
-
La de DAH dah dah dah!
-
DR Matthew - Why can't I still sing the descant to "Let There Be Peace On Earth"? -The one I learned when I was nine-years old and sang in Junior Choir? ::)
*And I still don't like singing, "Let us walk with each other". I prefer the original, "Let me walk with my brother". -Even back then I knew it was not a sexist statement.
-
I have been in the emergency room with my father.....who had a nosebleed....BUT everything is fine......but it was a LONG wait....but at last I am home and ready to start the New Year.
-
OH!
And I managed to get through five boxes-o-stuff. I probably shredded some stuff that I shouldn't have, but, in this age of the Internet and digital files, I'm sure a copy of a statement or two is still somewhere out there.
-
Hopefully we can make it through the night without another episode.
-
The Prolific SOB - that is the title of the middle volume of my memoirs.
-
I have been in the emergency room with my father.....who had a nosebleed....BUT everything is fine......but it was a LONG wait....but at last I am home and ready to start the New Year.
Welcome home, DR JRand. -And glad to hear that all is well with your father.
-
DR JOSE did you transfer the data from the floppy discs to CD's......or did you give the information to the ages?
-
Welcome home, DR JRand. -And glad to hear that all is well with your father.
Thank you. Me, too!
-
Signing off now to ring in the new year and go to bed at 12:05am - see y'all when we get back from Lima tomorrow!
Happy New Year!
-
DR JOSE did you transfer the data from the floppy discs to CD's......or did you give the information to the ages?
Well, most of the floppy discs are old program files for Corel, WordPerfect, etc. So those can definitely go "to the ages". I did find that they do make USB floppy drives, however, since I haven't used my PC laptop in almost seven years, well... I think whatever bits and bytes are on those discs, are meant to stay there at this point.
-
Oh, DR JRand, vibes for your Dad! ERs are interesting on New Year's Eve - we were there with DS Rob 8 years ago when he and his friend Chris collided in a foot race and Rob's glasses cut his eyelid.
-
Thank you DR GINNY.
Happy New Year to You and Yours!
And now I think I'm going to take a shower in order to enter the New Year all spic-and-span. -And I need to wash off all the dust and paper dust I've stirred up over the past few hours.
Little Laters...
-
Good idea DR JOSE.....I feel the need for the same....but I think I will wait until morning.
-
Tick tock tick tock.
-
Someone in my neighborhood is shooting his gun too early.
-
I hate when someone shoots his gun too early, don't you?
-
I watched the last two Maigret movies - the last one was very good but not up to the best, but the one prior to that was great.
-
I had a couple of ham slices for a snack and I'm done with all food until the New Year.
-
Now, aren't we supposed to be having a Bash around these here parts? And aren't we counting down to some balls dropping on the East Coast?
-
DR Matthew - Why can't I still sing the descant to "Let There Be Peace On Earth"? -The one I learned when I was nine-years old and sang in Junior Choir? ::)
I avoid that hymn at all costs!! LOL I can't remember the descant, but I can guess is that it doesn't lie in your voice well anymore :)
-
I have been in the emergency room with my father.....who had a nosebleed....BUT everything is fine......but it was a LONG wait....but at last I am home and ready to start the New Year.
Good vibes for your father, Jrand.
Yes.
-
Thank you DR TCB.
Fifteen minutes!!!
-
Someone in my neighborhood is shooting his gun too early.
I used to have that problem.
-
Batter for the Yorkshire Pudding is mixed, figerling potatoes are being par boiled. DP still at work. Laundry in the dryer. "Annie" on the stereo (I know that's random, but it's my next show!) - listening to a recording of the show we did 10 years ago (we closed on New Years Eve) I had a 4 piece band, piano, synth, bass and drums.... what a sound!!
-
I am feeling a little off this evening, so I am afraid that I am going to be a wussburger! However, we would not be on page seven right now, if I hadn't spent the day rambling along on this here site!
-
G'night!
-
Good night DR TCB.
See you next year!
-
I hate when someone shoots his gun too early, don't you?
Seriously...
bk - I noticed some tweets from some friends in L.A. that there's an arsonist going around starting fires tonight in Hollywood. They're asking people to not light their fireplaces tonight in order to make it easier to for people to detect "bad" smoke.
-
Ten minutes.
-
Nine minutes...
-
Although, according the HHW clock, we're less than two minutes away...
-
Eight minutes to East Coast balls dropping.
-
And I shall see everyone in 2012...
I'm going to head downstairs to watch whatever festivities my parents are watching on TV. As well as open the bottle of sparkling grape juice.
Until next year (at least here on the East Coast)...
Laters...
-
Seven minutes.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone? Oh, I know Jane is in Bengal or somewhere and Druxy is probably on his couch asleep with drool running down his shirt, but where in tarnation is everybody else? You'd think it was a New Year's Eve or something and anyone who is anyone knows this is the place to be.
-
Whoops!
A Very Happy New Year,
To all the Wonderful folk at HHW!
-
Five minutes.
-
Yes THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE.
-
On Page Eight.
Two minutes!
Happy New Year!
It's here!
LOL My GIF didn't work!
-
HAPPY EAST COAST NEW YEAR!!!
-
May it be a wonderfully positive year.
-
Happy New Year.....to my time zone.
The best in 2012 to all of my friends on HHW......
-
Did balls drop on the East Coast?
-
I know some balls will be dropping in the City of Studio in three hours time.
-
Lots of shotguns and fireworks in my neighborhood.....
-
2012!! It's hard to believe, isnt' it?
-
And now it's time for bed.....for the first time in 2012!!!!
-
Take it away, Central Time Zone!!
-
They're playing Sinatra singing "New York, New York" in Times Square.
-
Well, I'm afraid it's time for me to sign off too! Happy and Healthy New Year to all my friends here at HHW!
-
Well, I've got some time till the balls drop here.
-
I think I'll take a nice long hot shower and prepare for my contemplation time.
-
I do hope the Bash continues unabated.
-
Welcome fifty-seven GUESTS! Happy New Year!
-
A few of our GUESTS should make a resolution that 2012 is the year they come out of the woodwork and join our merry troupe.
-
There are 40 minutes until New Years here, hmm, time for a quick hot shower, I may just go do that
-
HNY to those on the east coast
-
I'm watching "New Year's Eve with Guy Lombardo" on public TV. Not sure what year it's from the guide just says "vintage"
-
Off for a quick shower.... I'll be back. Very glad I stayed home tongiht. I watched Bridesmaids. It wasn't what I expected it to be. I also saw The Decendants this afternoon. I enjoyed it.
-
I, too, shall do the shower thing - good to cleanse all negativity and bad and watch it go down the drain.
-
I just watched BEACHES. I was so impressed with THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE that I looked up Iris Rainer/Rainier (two spellings) Dart. The book may have been good, but I found the movie weak. Perhaps it was only intended to be a vehicle for Bette Midler.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!*
*Officially.**
**From the Eastern Time Zone.
I just watched BEACHES. I was so impressed with THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE that I looked up Iris Rainer/Rainier (two spellings) Dart. The book may have been good, but I found the movie weak. Perhaps it was only intended to be a vehicle for Bette Midler.
Oh... "Beaches". The book is better, but the movie is it's own thing. And for me, it's a very special thing. Lots of good emotional "baggage" with the movie for me. -Although, it still kind of pisses me off that "The Glory of Love" does not the end the way it does on the soundtrack. Then, again, that probably would have meant that I would have cried even more than I did. And still do at times. ::)
-
DAMN! Apparently there was another earthquake in Japan. :-\
-
Well, that was kind of unseemly post, but...
WELCOME TO PAGE NINE!!!!!!!!!
-
Certain things, such as hysterical females, have become a cliche, at least in chick lit. I find these characters tiresome, not funny. I can appreciate the friendship theme, but just found too many holes in it. Maybe with a different cast or a stronger script, or ...
-
I'm watching "New Year's Eve with Guy Lombardo" on public TV. Not sure what year it's from the guide just says "vintage"
I always say New Year's Eve belongs to Guy Lombardo. Those were the days.
-
Another earthquake? Oh, no.
-
Wae-Ling came over in the afternoon and she made a cake to take to the party. It was a thing of beauty. Truly. Then after we read a couple of chapters of Little House on the Prairie, Mae-Ling came over and she wanted to make some chicken matzoh ball soup, which she did. Then we all went to the church and sampled everyone's soup and played games.
-
Yorkshire pudding is out of the oven. Waiting for the DP to tell me he's on his way home, and I'll finish the potatoes and the broccoli. Must set the table.
-
Another earthquake? Oh, no.
It was a strong one, a 7.0. However, it was about 330 SSW of Tokyo in the Izu Islands. It apparently was very deep too. At this point, no tsunami warning has been issued. The reports from Tokyo are more along of the lines of "Did something just happen?". Hopefully, it really was that mild in the populated areas.
-
Where did you learn of it, Jose? None of my news sources haven mentioned it.
-
Then again, I suspect most news organizations are celebrating New Year's Eve.
-
I, too, shall do the shower thing - good to cleanse all negativity and bad and watch it go down the drain.
Boy did that shower feel good. I will sleep well tonight. I have just eaten an orange and am drinking a cup of tea
-
Where did you learn of it, Jose? None of my news sources haven mentioned it.
It's been coming over Twitter. If you head to www.BreakingNews.com there are some updates, as well as links to the earthquake monitoring sites. -I think most of the U.S. is still covering Lady Gaga and Mayor Bloomberg dancing in Times Square. And/or they're still drinking champagne.
-
Maybe it was like our LA earthquakes--the minor ones, I mean--in the populated areas. I hear little these days about the rebuilding efforts in Japan.
-
Thanks, Jose. I'll check that site.
-
Thanks, Jose. I'll check that site.
Just be sure the check the date on the photo if you click on "Japan Earthquake" in the lefthand column. That picture is from earlier this/last year.
-
I watched the ball drop eastern time wtih Kathy and Anderson. Now I'm watching Carson Daly delayed so we can watch the NYT ball drop central time.
-
Fireworks are being sold in South Dakota this year, so I'm curious if I'll hear any. Of course the wind is about 40-50 mph out there tonight, so I probably won't hear it anyway
-
Still another hour until the New Year here.
But have some 2011-2012 cake:
-
This is really annoying, they are right by the noisemakers
-
And since it is January 1...
Happy Birthday to my youngest brother, Jay!
He's now joined the rest of his brothers in Club 4-0! ;)
-
We've been hearing fireworks since 9 p.m. They are legal to possess now; however all the cities have banned them. Some of them are awfully close, and we swore we heard something hit our window.
-
Is that Wae-Ling, Laura? She looks very sweet.
-
The earthquake looked too close for comfort to me.
-
Happy Birthday to DR J's YB, Jay!
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR CENTRAL TIME!!!!!
-
Wow, even with the wind I hear some fireworks
-
They are illegal here, but they are for sale across the river so that never stopped anyone
-
That's Wae-Ling. She is growing up so fast.
-
That was either a big firecracker or a tree falling, maybe I better look outside...oh I think it's fireworks
-
It was kind of funny, Callie has been upstairs all night and Ricky has been in the basement, they both came into the living room to join Boo and I right before the stroke of midnight. Too funny
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR CENTRAL TIME!!!!!
What you said!
;)
-
I hear lots of firecrackers now. I'm not sure I like that with the terribly dry weather and howling wind
-
I've had my nice hot shower and feel very relaxed. Listening to some Bernard Herrmann music and in about an hour and fifteen minutes I'll go do my yearly thing I do, then return for the dropping of the balls.
-
And...
Well...
I'm afraid I won't be able to hang until the Mountain and Pacific Times Zones ring in the New Year. I actually got up "early" today, and plan to get up early tomorrow/today too.
But before I go...
-
Laura, I don't like fireworks, either. One year I was invited to a July 4th fireworks show out in the desert. I declined for several reasons, one of which was the desert in July. I later learned from the friend who attended that the host of the show lost a finger that night. I like the big, professional shows. Safer, plus better shows. But I don't go.
-
I hear lots of firecrackers now. I'm not sure I like that with the terribly dry weather and howling wind
I know exactly what you mean.
-
Legalizing fireworks in Arizona has to be one of the dumbest things our state legislature has ever done.
-
I see a new person - CLaFong - I do hope he begins posting soon - a wonderful fellow and very welcome around these here parts.
-
Do we have a new member? Welcome to CLaFong99!
-
I love this computer.
And ever since I nuked about 10,000 e-mails, the Mail program has been working perfectly.
-
Welcome, CLaFong99. Please join in our little party and post about yourself.
Bruce - Happy New Year to You! I'm so glad I got to spend some time with you again in 2011 during Lost & Unsung. Thank you for asking me to be a part of it.
-
Happy new year!
Fred, I really like A BRAND NEW MARY. I think I mentioned that the first time I heard it, but I'll mention it again. Great song, IMHO.
-
I hope everyone has a safe New Year's Eve Evening. See you in the morning.
Goodnight.
-
Good night, Jose. And Happy New Year.
-
I hear firetrucks.
-
Jose, back at you! It was a total treat.
-
One hour from now I'll do my yearly thing. Maybe by then we'll be to page twelve - haven't done that in a long time.
Thanks so much, Jeanne!!!
-
Time for me to go to sleep. I want to get some rest so I can get a lot of work done tomorrow morning on the brief I need to finish before Tuesday. I'm thinking that I'll try to get one issue completely done tomorrow morning then stop until Monday.
-
Here's Sandra and Mae-Ling playing Twisted Fish
-
I think I'm going to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with Paul tomorrow. I really liked the original version and am not sure I even want to see this one, but I want to win the oscar contest again this year and to do that I need to see the movies. So, I'm going to as many Golden Globe nominated films as possible. I know they aren't always the same, but it will really narrow down the field. I'm hoping The Artist comes to town at some point
-
I've never heard of Twisted Fish. Is it twisted? (I love the song TWISTED.)
-
I also rented Bridesmaids, Beginners, Crazy Stupid Love and Cars 2. I've been so stressed lately, and the movies are doing the trick.
-
First Time posting - but a long time friend.
We're spending a quiet New Years at home with
the dog and the 5 cats.
Happy New Year to Everyone at HainesHisWay!
-
Welcome, CLaFong99.
Can you tell us something about yourself?
-
Welcome CLaFong99!!!
-
We love pets! I have three cats
-
I imagine CLaFong is getting used to the lay of the land.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to three hundred postings.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to three hundred postings.
And no one can say Ben and Jerry's IMAGINE WHIRLED PEACE ice cream is not a great flavor. Well, they could say it but I think they'd be wrong.
-
I have three dogs. Heaven help me
-
Did I accidentally lock this topic??? Maybe I hit the button without noticing. How unseemly. Well, I've done my yearly New Year's Eve thing and am now ready for some balls to drop.
-
I can't even imagine how I could have locked the topic but locked it was.
-
I guess I should turn on the TV so we know when the ball is dropping.
-
Welcome forty-nine GUESTS.
-
I turned on ABC - but it's news. When does the countdown start? Where's Dick Clark?
-
I hope all the people who are starting fires in Hollywood have a WRETCHED New Year. Note to "people" - do something GOOD for a change. Do something POSITIVE. Don't cause grief to others or grief will most surely come to your door.
-
I see people but I don't see posts.
-
Conversely, I don't see posts but I see people.
-
I will singlehandedly take us to page twelve.
-
Thirty minutes to 2012!
-
Well, Happy New Year's Eve, Everyone! Party safely and have a great new year!! I'm off to my sister's. We're all meeting there before we go to eat at Budd Bay Cafe (http://www.buddbaycafe.com/) (our reservation is for 6:30 pm). It's become our New Year's Eve tradition. After that, we'll probably go back to my sister's house for a while, but I'm sure that we'll all be back at our respective homes long before midnight. At least, I plan to be home before midnight. :D
George, if I don't see you later, Happy New Year! Does Budd Bay have vegan dishes?
Sort of...my sister and niece got their vegetarian tacos without the cheese. I had the fresh mozzarella chicken burger and it was very good. Messy, but good. After dinner, we went to my sister's and watched Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin. I'm glad I watched it because my DVR didn't record it. >:(
I'm now watching King5 TV's local Seattle Space Needle countdown.
-
Happy New Year to the Eastern, Central and Mountain time zones!! ;D
-
Aha! So you had the topic locked up for awhile.
I thought I was doing something wrong.
You know me and computers.
I hear that your new one does the laundry and cooks
breakfast! True?
When is Episode 5 going online? Tomorrow or next week?
I got an e-mailed postal card from Jane and she asked if I could post it on HHW. Here it is:
(Apologies, if it's widescreen)
Episode five will go live tomorrow night at midnight. It's a doozy. Marshall is, of course, our brilliant editor who makes these shows look so good and move so well.
-
What a sweet card from dear reader Jane. My goal is to lose enough additional pounds so I look as thin as dear husband Keith.
-
Thirteen minutes to 2012!
-
Notes are written and will go up on time for a change.
-
Glad to see Dick Clark is still doing his thing.
-
Something named Lady Gaga sang a song. It was loud.
-
I now have to go all the way back to Page 4 to ketchup on all the posts!
-
Will no one rid me of this meddlesome page? Oh, a Becket reference.
-
Well, get to work, George!
-
And if dear readers have not sent me their addresses, please do so to kritzerland at gmail dot com.
-
You will love your special 2012 treat, I assure you.
-
I see an Arnold M. Brockman.
-
Nine minutes to 2012.
It's only appropriate to be on page 12 in 2012!
Eight minutes to 2012!
Seven minutes to 2012!
-
Six minutes to 2012!
Five minutes to 2012!
After dinner, I was supposed to go to my friend Margo's house and check on her cats...and I forgot. She called me a few minutes ago and asked me if I went. Spooo. I'll go first thing in the morning.
One minute to 2012!
