Well, you've read the notes, the notes were chronological, and now it is time for you to post until the chronological cows come home.

If this New York magazine listing is correct, the "Unsung Musicals" benefit was Nov. 13, 1994.

Good morning, all! I slept well, but around 5:30am I was wide awake, thinking about the Gavotte in DEAREST ENEMY. So I'm up.

I'll work on the scores this morning and make a research trip to Barns & Noble. I need to see wha books they've got on modeling and acting careers for a friend outside the City.  I don't have much else planned for the day beyond a continuation on DEAREST ENEMY. I am home today because UPS will deliver my new vacuum cleaner some time between noon and the end of the day and I need to be here to sign for it.

That's my day.

TOD: I think after about five months or so of not having flour, the pasta cravings are finally getting out of my system. I thought of indulging in a pasta dish the other day, after the visit to the doctor, but nothing much appealed. Still, the thought of flat, large pappardelle with a touch of butter, some white wine, capers and shreds of tuna or rigatoni with a hearty, spicy tomato sauce, with or without sausage, always sounds good to me.

TOD:

It's not really my favorite pasta dish, but for the past few days I've a strong hankerin' for a pasta side dish sold at Wegman's:  mini shells in a pesto sauce (made with pine nuts!) with cherry tomatos and feta.

I eat the store brand just because it's cheaper. Quaker is good but it's expensive. I use real oatmeal. It's Old Fashioned, not  "Quick Oats" which have been chopped and processed more than Old Fashioned. I don't use pre-packaged instant oatmeal and I don't use "steel cut". I pump up my oatmeal with either walnuts or pecans, some kind of fruit (cranberries, raisins, dried cherries, a banana etc) and a teaspoon of cinnamon.

I'm listening to the late great blind Brasilian pianist Manfredo Fest.  How this guy did these baroque arrangements without being able to see charts is amazing.  I'm listening to a fantastic funked up arrangement he did of Slaughter on 10th Avenue which is just incredible.

TOD:

Number one all-time favorite without any qualms, hesitations or quibbling:  Spaghetti Carbonara (prepared "properly").

Number two favorite:  Tortellini a la Bolognese (a chicken- or pork-filled tortellini with meat sauce.  YUM!)

Number three favorite:  Spaghetti a la Bolognese (spaghetti with meat sauce).

Number four favorite:  Spaghetti with pesto sauce.

Of course, parmesan is expected to embellish each of the dishes.  And cracked pepper. And red wine.

So much for easy assemblage. It took me about 45 minutes to assemble this Hoover and try it out. Instruction books and I do not agree: why does nothing in the illustrations look like the object in my hand?  why isn't there a lovely detailed dos[;ay of all the assorted objects? how did I miss the info about the handle? Oy!

It runs beautifully. I am happy I broke nothing in the assemblage.

I was awakened at eight-thirty by noisy workers somewhere nearby.  I stayed in bed until nine-thirty, got up, finessed yesterday's pages, then went and had some food after writing three new pages.  I hadn't been to the Studio Cafe for a while so I went there.  Ed Asner was lunching near me.  Then I picked up one package and now I shall write as many pages as I can.

Did you say "hello" to Ed?

So much for easy assemblage. It took me about 45 minutes to assemble this Hoover and try it out. Instruction books and I do not agree: why does nothing in the illustrations look like the object in my hand?  why isn't there a lovely detailed dos[;ay of all the assorted objects? how did I miss the info about the handle? Oy!

It runs beautifully. I am happy I broke nothing in the assemblage.

I didn't even know Hoover's needed to be assembled.  :o  I'm impressed with your skills & am pleased it works beautifully.

I just learned that a Facebook friend Joey Wilgenbusch, who played Mowgli in JUBILEE this summer for Ohio Light opera, died at the age of 29 in December from heart issues. I had him in mind for one of the Collegians on the recording of ROBERTA. I am very sad over this.

Here's the OLO page in memory of him. There's also a link to the obituary:

Re: the US Dragaon Tattoo movie. BK didn't care for it. But I know others who liked it a lot (including my mom).  I am definitely looking forward to seeing it to see which aspects were like the book and which aspects were different from the Swedish movie.

Speaking of movies....We went to three movies this trip.  Considering I think we have only gone twice since I broke my shoulder this was something.  I found I can sit, at least in a stadium seating theater, through a movie without it hurting. :)  We saw HUGO in a very comfortable theater in Palm Springs.

The weirdest thing bothers me in movies. My legs. I just have a hard time sitting without them cramping.

Jane, how did the Paul Gauguin compare to the other cruise ships you have been on?

Funny, I opened HHW with just this thought in mind knowing you would want to know.

To begin with the ship, after our cruise, headed to New Zealand to be refurbished.  We doubt as much work that is needed will be done, especially improving the stabilizers on the ship.  Happily our favorite area on the ship was the outside area where smokers were permitted.  The adjoining bar was very nice & also where a beautiful afternoon English tea was served.

The food was excellent, however after a few days the vegetarian selection didn't vary much.  The cookies were exceptionally delicious.

The service was  no better than any other ship.  For 3 nights we had the same grumpy waiter at dinner until we sat in a different section of the dining room.  This cruise is touted as having service beyond the normal cruise & there were several who provided it, beyond that it was nothing special which was disappointing as we expected to be pampered.

More in a few minutes.  I have to wash dishes.

We enjoyed the intimacy with other passengers the smaller cruise provided.

The day at the little island in Taha was done in style with tons of delicious food and an open bar.  This was an all inclusive cruise & we were impressed with the top quality of the liqueur & wines.

We spoke with other passengers who have been on smaller all inclusive ships & were disappointed with the service.  One gentleman had been on the PG cruise with the previous cruise line that owned it & said he was very disappointed.  The somewhat larger Regata was anchored near us in Bora Bora (in fact their lights were very festive on New Year's Eve while we watched the fireworks over Bora Bora from the ship) while we talked.  He has been on the sister ship & suggested we try a cruise on the Regata.

My favorite oatmeal for breakfast is scrambled eggs and sausage.

My favorite oatmeal is eggs and chicken-fried steak at Bill Johnson's Big Apple.

What a surprise.  Mit Romney has won New Hampshire.

His father was born in Mexico.  I found that very interesting.  His grandparents were fleeing anti-poligamy laws, I bet they didn't have a visa to go to Mexico

Welcome home to DR Jane!

Re: the US Dragaon Tattoo movie. BK didn't care for it. But I know others who liked it a lot (including my mom).  I am definitely looking forward to seeing it to see which aspects were like the book and which aspects were different from the Swedish movie.

My friend Paul liked it a lot better than the Swedish version, well, except for the opening credits

Did he read the books?

He probably listened to them, but he may have read them.   He's an artist and likes to listen to books as he works

Tonight was $1 popcorn and $1 pop at the movie theater so Paul and I went to see Sherlock Holmes.   It was ok.  He really liked it.  I didn't see the first one, so I don't know if that would have made it better for me.  The special effects were fun. If I had to pay to go to it, I probably wouldn't have gone

I grew up with lots of Romneys and Pratts (another wing of the family) and let's just say that polygamy didn't exactly end with the grandparents.  :)

The weirdest thing bothers me in movies. My legs. I just have a hard time sitting without them cramping.

My legs get up and walk out of movies.

So, tonight Sandra and I saw the tour of South Pacific. It was great.

While in the parking lot walking to the sidewalk, I tripped and landed hard on my knee. Boy, did it hurt to walk the steps in the theater.

Apparently, all the theaters are trying to spice up OKLAHOMA a little.

There's a wide open shirt on that fellow
There's a wide open shirt on that fellow
I'm turning my head as I watch him jump high
And it seems like Seattle's where I'm gonna fly

Oh what a beautiful cornfield
Oh what a beautiful shot
I got a beautiful inkling
Tickets are gonna be hot

All the cowboys are set for a hoedown
All the cowboys are set for a hoedown
They don't even look as they see me go by
But if I looked like them, honey, neither would I

Oh what a beautiful cornfield
Oh what a beautiful shot
I got a beautiful inkling
Tickets are gonna be hot
Oh what a beautiful shot

VERY funny, Fred! ;D

Thanks, TCB.  were they ever actually using that as the ad and maybe it got pulled?

Well they were using it for their e-mail flyers.  That is where I got the Jpeg.

Or maybe it's targeted marketing? ;)

Maybe...I got those e-mails, too. ::)

I just found this video at the Doonesbury website and fell in love with it.  I wanted to share it with y'all:

"Oh, The Places You Will Go!" (http://youtu.be/ahv_1IS7SiE?hd=1)

That was so cool!  Thanks for posting it, Dan!

That's awful, Larry.  I'm so sorry.
