Title: TIMELINES
Post by: bk on January 15, 2012, 12:15:13 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both time and lines, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're trying to figure out the last year they did come home and they're quite confused.

Good morning, all!

I am up and moving. Slowly, but I am moving. In another five minutes I will put the laundry into the washers. I slept very well and very soundly. I vaguely remember a dream about working at Barnes & Noble and getting things set up for a dinner to which the Obamas were the principal guests. I do remember that the Barnes & Noble manager of the cashiers, with whom I had a very prickly relationship, was supervising the dinner decorations, but little memory beyond that.

So, DEAREST ENEMT, after the good meeting on Friday, is currently in a bit of jeopardy about getting the music prep - fixes to scores and new parts - accomplished, and I am in an emotional tailspin about the current situation. The problem is that if I'm to throw rocks, they should have been thrown in 2002, and the current situation is no one's fault, perhaps an error in judgment that may be okay in two days' time. At any rate it must be resolved this week. Keep them vibes coming!

Once I finish the laundry, I will make a trip to the Village and pay a call on DR Ben and Anthony, who's done some work for me. Following that, I will return home and continue what I need to do for now with DEAREST ENEMY.

Avanti!

People at PCPH keep saying they want to do NOISES OFF.....and I keep saying it would be very difficult on the trust stage that we have......I try to be nice and not say anything about having the CAST that can do it.

It will be very interesting to see how SEE HOW THEY RUN - a typical British farce - comes off when we do it in September.  I am going to audition, because I love doing comedy.....but I may be too old for the part I want.....   Time will tell.

What I keep thinking of is the producer's face when I tell him that we might have an unestmated cost of $6-8,000 if the current situation crashes, as I fear it might.

Laura I know the feeling -  every Father's Day they  have a "memorial run" down my street  -  it is a fundraiser for college scholarships for  children of firefighters that died while serving -  it is memory of Raymond Downey (for whom my block and our post office  was also renamed) who died at  the WTC -  it is a good cause but I don't see why they couldn't do the run in the local park a mile away - why they feel that  it is alright to close down all the roads and trap us all in our homes on a Sunday morning is beyond me -  it is not like we might want to go to church or something

Title: Re: TIMELINES
Post by: vixmom on January 15, 2012, 09:33:03 AM
right now I am leaning towards this one:

Best Chili

Ingredients:

2 1/2 lb. lean chuck, ground
1 lb. lean pork, ground
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 cup finely chopped onion
8 oz. hunt's tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 can beer (12 oz.)
3 Tablespoons chili powder
2 Tablespoons instant beef bouillon (or 6 cubes)
2 Tablespoons cumin, ground
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons oregano leaves
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon coriander, ground
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa
1/2 teaspoon Louisiana hot sauce
1 teaspoon cornmeal
1 teaspoon flour
1 teaspoon warm water

Directions:

1. In a large saucepan brown 1 1/4 pounds of the ground meat (the beef and the pork), drain the fat.

2. Remove meat (the beef and the pork). Brown the rest of the ground meat, drain all but 2 tablespoons of the fat.

3. Add the garlic and onion, cook and stir until tender.

4. Add the other half of the meat and the tomato sauce, water, beer, chili powder, bouillon, cumin, paprika, oregano, sugar, coriander, cocoa, and hot sauce. Mix well.

5. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer, covered , for 2 hours.

6. In a small bowl, stir together the cornmeal and flour, then add the warm water and mix well.

7. Stir into chili and cook, covered, for an additional 20 minutes.

The skin damage he was treated for - seriously - last August turned out not to be skin cancer apparently, but here's hoping he learned something from that experience.

Needless to say, because we have so mcuh free time, we'd done the (sort of somber) THE BEST OF TANS!

Tune of THE BEST OF TIMES from LA CAGE, but a fan wish, sort-of seriously.

The best of tans was yours
Watch out next summer. you’ve been lucky, friend
The best of tans was yours
And your fans cheer the news that you / are on / the mend

George, change your habits fast,
Your fans all love you and the wish we send:
Make sun part of your past
Time for the quest for tans to end, to end, to end

Now, your charm’s as great as years ago
Still, fans worry and want you to know

So change your habits fast,
We’re glad to hear that you are better now
You’ll never be outclassed
Your fans adore you still, and how, and how, and how!

I love the show, but I think this current production is a good summer stock production that isn't better because the director lets it down at every turn. Some good performances, and some that needed direction that they never got.

Vixmom, I envy you your tickets to see "Follies." I love the recording and would really love to see this production. Oh, well, I bought a CD of some production in the past with John Cullum, who is one of my favorite singers. Maybe I'll have to watch it one of these days.

ticket

I am being completely selfish and going on my lonesome ---

neither the Vixter nor Vixdad is really enthusiastic about seeing it so I am leaving them behind

It is too bad that the Vixter is not interested in seeing FOLLIES.  It is one of the all-time greatest musicals ever written, and who knows when this type of production will ever be mounted again.

And I say that, even though I think the show stumbles in the final quarter of the show.

I love the show, but I think this current production is a good summer stock production that isn't better because the director lets it down at every turn. Some good performances, and some that needed direction that they never got.

Which leads to the question:  Who would you rather have seen in FOLLIES, Bernadette Peters or Victoria Clark?

It was in the 50s today.  I opened the windows and turned on the house fan to air out the house.   It's starting to get a little cool, so I'll have to close them soon, but the house smells so fresh and there is humidity from the melting snow (all one inch of it) it's wonderful

Great lyrics as always, Fred!

I also bought a new TV stand for the living room for a whopping $39.   I put it together and it really looks good. I'll put the old one upstairs in the room I am getting ready to start working on.  I really didn't feel 100% today, so I decided not to start working on the walls

At about 4:30 AM Ricky decided that he had to play with the cat in the mirror, which I'm convinced he believes lives in the closet.  He woke me up scratching and scratching on the closet door (where the mirror is).  When I woke up, my stomach was a mess.   I didn't get sick, but I was up for a while reading and waiting for stomach meds to work.

As a result I woke up at 9:04 for my 9:00 coffee meeting with the chair of the HPC.  So I flew out of bed, medicated the cat and hurried to Panera.  Of course I missed him and he didn't get my messages.   We straightened it out later, but it was a cluster

BTW I didn't let Ricky in the closet, I don't want him to do that every night.   I did open the closet door when he left the room, hoping that would stop him from starting up again

It sometimes amazes me what Broadway information I learn about from Deep Discount DVDs.  For instance, the song list from a previous FOLLIES production.

Follies: In Concert on DVD

Including such songs as "Broadway Baby," "I'm Still Here," "The Ladies Who Lunch," and "Losing My Mind," this video features a filming of the well-known Stephen Sondheim musical as it was performed at New York's Lincoln Center in 1985. ~ Iotis Erlewine, All Movie Guide

Sunday evening greetings!  We got home from Lima about 4pm and our house smelled wonderful - split pea & ham soup bubbling away in the crockpot.  I watched most of Improv-Ice and dozed a little, removed the bones and bay leaves from the soup, and Richard and I have had a delicious supper.  Next time I make this soup, I won't cut the carrots so finely and I'll add some water to make it more soupy.  It's amazing to me how much meat was left on the ham bone when I thought we'd picked it clean!

That chili recipe looks good, but I would cut the cumin in half. You need some, but not enough to taste it by itself. And I might toast the cumin slightly before using.

Thank John,
How would I toast the cumin?  Just put it in a fry pan or should I put it under the broiler?
In a frying pan on the stove only for about a minute or two. When it begins to get fragrant, it's ready.

thank you -  as you can tell I am not a very experienced cook

Last episode of "Glee" had Loretta Devine. This episode has Cheyenne Jackson. These guest stars are better than the Gweneth Paltrows.

The best pictures were The Artist and The Descendants.

About this time last year, I was facing having to go to upstate New York, where it was snowing. The trip got canceled because of snow here in San Antonio. Cillaliz, I hope you get all the snow you want this year. And I hope I get none.

Another long day.  I did the singing contest - very impressed with some of the singers, and two of our Lost and Unsung boys were in the contest.

Then I came right home and began writing - I did about ten pages, then went and had a salad and some sweet potato fries.  Then I came back, wrote another ten pages and called it a night.  Then I called night an it.  Tit for tat, baby.

Then I watched a Maigret - the earliest one that I've seen so far, and the first one I've seen to feature Mrs. Maigret, who must only appear in a handful of the early movies.  I didn't care for this one as much as the others.

Then, even though I hadn't intended to, I wrote another three pages, just to get going on a new chapter.  I'm now in 1997 (finally!) and am breezing through the rest of the albums, stopping only to describe something if it was really interesting.
