Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of both book and I, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing a production of The Cow and I.
-
And the word of the day is: PLENUM!
-
As promised, here is the cover of the new book:
-
That's a great cover, BK! And the CDs around you are of your actual CDs! :D
-
I think he did a great job and I love the color part of it. Originally we were going to just do black and white, but this has so much more oomph!
-
The CD covers he chose are his choices, ones he loves. The only one I had him swap out was Hey Love - I thought it would be funny to do the Dolly cover, since it's a Hirschfeld.
-
What's the CD sort of hidden behind the Guy Haines CD?
-
Not sure.
-
Love the book cover, bk.
Started to look for a "Nina" or 2, just out of habit.
-
Really like the title.
Will the book release be around mid-March?
Can't wait to read it.
-
Not sure.
I wonder if it's this CD:
-
Great book cover!
-
I think I'm coming down with something. A bad sore throat caused me to keep waking up in the night.
-
I love the cover too!
Sorry to hear that you are coming down with something, DR Doug R. The oaks are blooming around here and its keeping my nose stuffy. I sound like I have a cold but I don't. I hope that clears up when I go north.
Going back--to answer your question DR Jane. I think they will feed me. I sort of got a kick out of what the lady who called said about the trip. I asked if they would pick me up to take me the airport (no, I have to make my own arrangements) but once I'm in NY I'm under "their" care and I will be escorted everywhere.
Don't they know I already carry the most deadly weapon known to man? If I hit someone side the head with my purse I could kill them! :)
I also thought it somewhat funny since I've already been to NY 3 times on my own. I remember I even impressed DR Elmore by doing that.

Morning all.

Good morning, all! I got out of bed at 6:30, thought, what the hell am I doing, and went back to bed until 8:30. I plan to stay here and work on the score for ROBERTA by Mr Jerome Kern most of the day. I may go out for a walk later in the day. Options are nice.
Good cover, BK!
DR Danise, you've got my phone numbers, so if you have a moment free, call me.

Here's the first public news about Howard's death:

Here is another short piece about HK. I'm surprised there is not more about it, even on Playbill.com.
Howard Kissel (http://super-conductor.blogspot.com/2012/02/in-memoriam-howard-kissel-1942-2012.html)
Also, another long-time theatre man has died, though he may not be known to millions.
Ted Mann, Founder of Circle in the Square (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/160082-Theodore-Mann-Founder-of-Circle-in-the-Square-Dies-at-87-)
Circle in the Square began as a downtown, off-Broadway space. They moved uptown to Broadway and built a new space in the building that houses what is now called the Gershwin but was built as the Uris Theatre (where I saw the original production of Sweeney Todd).
-
Nary a Nina to be found.
-
JohnG, re: your post last night about the book titles. There's *another* book about Jesus and mushrooms that I read during my world religions/occult phase in my 20s: The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross. It's quite good as I recall.
-
Pery Ribeiro also died two days ago. He was the first person to chart with Girl from Ipanema in Brasil, and later was part of Sergio's group Bossa Rio (FJL, Pery was the male voice on that tune I was trying to decipher a few weeks ago).
-
What will JR's Dream-o-Matic make of this?: I awoke this morning from some sort of crazy dream where the name "Bettina Gregory" was being repeated over and over. I came down and Googled her--former ABC correspondent, evidently also an actress. Why, Lord, why? ;)

Nice scarf by DR GINNY.
Thanks for the link DR MBARNUM - I shall look forward to the disco!!
What a lovely book cover.....most colorful and eye catching.

I am sick today....oh yes, I am feeling under the weather. My sister Molly was very nice to work for me today so that I could stay home.

Well I'll be gobsmacked department: I just looked outside and it is snowing. As in a lot of snow.

Saturday morning greetings! We are taking my Mom to Dayton's Victoria Theatre today to see Human Race's world premiere of TENDERLY: The Rosemary Clooney Musical. There is a lot of local interest in this piece and Rosemary's brother, Nick, has been in Dayton quite a bit. Haven't heard of any George (her nephew) sightings, alas.
-
Thanks for the comment about my scarf, DR JRand. I'll be wearing it today. Hope you feel better soon!
-
BK, I love the book cover!
-
DR DougR - Hope you feel better soon!

Anthony recently transferred an old cassette tape of Carol Channing (BK's favorite ;)) reading passages from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. It prompted us to get the original book from the Library. I just picked it up. I also reserved the sequel, "But, Gentlemen Marry Brunettes". It's "in transit" and should be at the library for pick up in a couple of days.
We also reserved a Beverley Sills CD from 1975
Beverly Sills and Andre Kostelanetz, The Music of Victor Herbert (http://www.amazon.com/Music-Victor-Herbert-Beverly-Sills/dp/B000BHC94C)
This was also because of Dear Larry. He posted his artwork for the upcoming CD and we heard about the BS CD and lo, and behold, it's in the library. We should have it soon.
-
Good Morning to all this Saturday morning.
-
I'm up and awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, after which I'll do some sort of jog for the first time in two weeks.
-
Glad some are liking the cover.
-
Thanks DR FJL. I am watching the BBC 4 series on the British Musical.....I am just about the watch part three....most entertaining.
-
A quiet day at HHW.

Beverly Sills' Herbert recording has turned the virtually unknown "Art Is Calling For Me" from The Enchantress into one of the most popular audiiotn pices for sopranos since "Glitter and Be Gay."

I find the idea of a BS CD most unseemly. ;)

I'm glad our oak trees haven't started blooming again.
LOL DR Danise. I've been wearing my purse around my waist because it is easier on my shoulders. No swinging purses for me anymore.
I hope they will give you a little free time to see some of our New York DR's. Most of all have a grand time.

Ditto. I had that feeling.
A strep virus is going around the office. Thankfully I haven't caught it. It would be my luck after only a few days back.

Love the new book cover. The colors are the same as the First Nudie Musical Blu-Ray, so it seems fitting.

Many vibes.

Off to lunch. It's a place called Williams Confectionery Crafts and I want to order everything in the place when I go. Old-fashioned favorites, like hummingbird cake, 7-Up cake, pink cake, pies (sweet potato, coconut chess, lemon meringue), strudel (cherry, apple), cupcakes, cookies and more. I keep reminding myself I only get one that I can share, not five.
-
I'm up and awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, after which I'll do some sort of jog for the first time in two weeks.
I wish you would send her to me. I will have to skip the gym today to clean, can't do both with this annoying shoulder.

BK, you seem to be having just about exactly the same reaction to DOWNTON ABBEY that Betsy and I had. If that continues, you should be mostly very pleased with the final Christmas episode.
-
Wow the cover of the book sure looks different than it did in black and white on my kindle.
I'm curious, how did you decide on using blue as the color?

Time for a break. I'll walk down to the pharmacy and pick up my meds,

FEEL BETTER VIBES FOR DR DOUG!
Thank you Jane. I have definitely got a cold but I haven't had one for some time so can't complain too much!
-
I cooked sausages, onion rings, mashed potato, peas and gravy. I now feel bloated. Time to watch more Errol Flynn.
-
The artist decided on the blue - it took me about ten minutes to get used to it, but I really love it now.
-
Back from various and sundried and will now make sure all the stuff we did yesterday was entered correctly. I'm told I'll have at least one of the blurbs today or tomorrow.
-
Speaking of cakes. I'm making one now. The Burnt Almond cake which begins with candi-fying the almonds in the oven. Tossed the almonds in egg whites and sugar and now they are roasting in the oven. That step takes awhile. They come out looking like Frosted Flakes, which I hope happens to mine!! The rest of the cake is a white and chocolate layer cake drizzled with amaretto and layered with pastry cream. Then the thing is assembled, frosted with whipped cream and the almonds stuck on the outside of the whipped cream.
The buzzer just went off to scrape and stir the almonds... not sure I have high hopes at the moment.
-
Hello, everyone.
Very nice book cover, Bruce.

Feel-better vibes to both DR JRAND and DR DOUG!

I hope that everyone will show up for The Oscar Party here tomorrow. Even if you aren't a big fan of the awards, it is always a blast at HHW. We always set a posting record (or close); and I don't mean a low level posting total.

Oh, and the East Coast posters don't need to worry about "spoilers" because the awards are live for both coasts.

I would love to see this. She was one of a kind. Hope the person playing her is an iota near as good.
We are back after a delightful afternoon with my Mom. We went early to the theatre for a talk by the duo that created TENDERLY, Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman. Hearing them talk about creating a musical about a show business icon made me think of SMASH. My biggest problem with this production was the person playing Rosemary Clooney, Tory Ross. She sang OK, but she isn't much of an actress and she looks more like Fanny Brice than Rosemary Clooney. There's only one other person in the cast, a man who plays her therapist and all of the other roles - male and female. He was played by Dayton's favorite leading man, Scott Stoney. The band - piano, bass, and drums - was on stage and it was fun to see Music Director Scot Woolley at the keyboard. My friend Becky and I used to see him on Cincinnati's Showboat Majestic when we were both still single.

Doc Martin is on. It has some beautiful scenes of the sea.

Will you be joining us tomorrow, Ginny?

Hi folks~ Thanks for finding that DR Tom. That means I'll be home at about midnight on Wednesday and up to watch the show by 9. I knew it wouldn't take long.
DR Tom, You knew more than I did. They didn't tell me a thing!
I'm tired. I mowed the grass today and then I went and did some shopping. My coat is 7 years old and a bit shabby so I went to Burlingtons Coat factory to find a replacement. It was so neat that I put one coat on and knew right away it was mine. I tired several others on but just kept going back to the "one".
I don't like the wool coats. I prefer the down filled ones. I just love it! :)

Before Anderson's show went on the air last year, I signed up to receive weekly updates. I thought I always got them on Friday, but it was there this morning.
-
Then I went to mall to find a warm sweater or two. What a waste of time. I went to every store and didn't find a thing I liked. I almost got a white pull over but I thought it was way over priced. Then I went to Walmart and found 3 that were on the sale rack for only seven bucks. One is a very lovely shade of blue and the other is a purple.

It seems funny to read you mowed the lawn & purchased a winter coat on the same day. It is winter, lawns shouldn't need mowing ;)
I miss having a Burlington Coat Factory.

The price seems very good to me.

I thought the red eye meant you were flying from CA to the east coast and because you lose all those hours it makes you tired.
The red eyes are caused by lack of sleep. We took the "red eye" to & from Tahiti maybe getting a couple hours of sleep each way. Fortunately Tahiti was three hours behind us so we didn't fall asleep too early the first couple of nights.

I thought that too. It really wasn't grass, per say, it was mostly weeds. I just wanted to make the yard as neat as possible in case all heck breaks loose when I get back. I send an email to Jackie Callaway on 28 news because she was nice enough to run those stories about me. I thought she should know about me going on ACS. I didn't want to go behind her back. I hope I'll be able to thank her on air for everything she did as well as Thelma and few others.

I noticed that they kinda got the story wrong already. I didn't say I took out 2 loans on the house, I had to max out all of my credit cards to get back into it. Same difference I guess.

You are baaaaad. I'm still trying to figure out if he has his arms tattooed or not He has a guest on from that reality show about tattoos and said he has to show everyone his arms. There wasn't a space that wasn't tattooed. The a few days later he had his sleeve rolled up and there wasn't one to be seen. I'm guessing he just had the temp kind but on that show but I'm just not sure.

I'm guessing he just had the temp kind but on that show but I'm just not sure.
Not that it really matters to me if he has them or not.

Sorry Danise, people may wonder what you are referring to in your post. I thought I was "Modifying" my post, but I ended up "Deleting" it.

It seems funny to read you mowed the lawn & purchased a winter coat on the same day. It is winter, lawns shouldn't need mowing ;)
I miss having a Burlington Coat Factory.
That was nice of you to send an email to the local newswoman. I never thought about the local attention you might get after going on a major show. I hope you get it and it helps you get some of your money back!!!!!

Oh, DRGinny one though occurred to me while I was mowing the grass. This isn't my first national appearance--we were all on the Today show. Of course this is my first speaking appearance. I guess this will be my 15 minutes of fame. :)

Anderson wants to gt a tatoo, but hasn't gotten any yet.

That's ok. People often wonder what I'm referring to! LOL!
I'm not really looking for more air time but I think it could happen. I'm sure the news station will see it as a chance to promote her segment.

What I said was that Danise could set Anerson straight, well maybe not straight.
-
DR JMK - I think Clint Walker was Cyan.
-
Danise, I just hope that this will lead to you getting some money back or some work done for you.

Last night I watched the PBS presentation of MEMPHIS.
I liked the music and I liked the story.....I liked the show mostly.....I don't ever have to see it again....but it was okay.
What I didn't like was Chad Kimball in the lead role.......he speech patterns were exactly like Pa Kettle....and he did strange weird movements with his mouth like he was chewing tobacco or had a mouthful of snuff or something.....it was just plain weird and distracting....I almost didn't finish watching the show because of my irritation with him....but many of the other performers were very good.
BUT it was an original show with original music - so I give it that!!! The costumes were good and the sets and lighting were a lot of fun.
BUT there was also one black male dancer who was ALWAYS off the beat and late with his steps.....in EVERY song he was in....particularly in the first song he was in "Everybody Wants to Be Black on Saturday Night" - and he stood out in the WRONG way all the way through the show.
-
I confess, I have to wonder if they were able to get in touch with Turner. I do worry about what he might do. I don't know if you guys knew about what his brother, mIke, (the one who knocked on my door and started this whole mess) did.
At the beginning of December, he attacked a 83 year old he was working for. He told her he had a gun, got her into her house, stole 45 dollars, 500 worth of jewelry, BROKE the woman's arm and then stole her SUV. That gave me chills when I heard about it.

I don't think so but if I can help one person from going though what I did, it will be worth it.
-
Thanks for the feel better vibes....I am feeling better.....at about 80%, but I don't have anything to do tomorrow, so I can get some more resting time.
It is very nice.
I hope MR BK enjoys THE SOUND OF MUSIC tonight......I don't like the additional movie songs either......I don't like An Ordinary Couple.....but Something Good is not much of an improvement. And adding I Have Confidence stops the show when it should keep moving....let's get to the KIDS!!!!

Yes, we were, DR Danise, along with DR Cillaliz. I will be watching Thursday for your national speaking debut!

Glad your feeling better DR Jrand!
Well folks, I'm tired and I have a lot of things to do tomorrow. I'm going to say goodnight.
Vibes to all who need them!

SAFE VIBES FROM THE TURNERS FOR DR DANISE!!!!
-
I'll tell you one other odd thing that happened and I swear that it's 100% true. The very day I got the first email, I was down in the little sandwich shop in our building. They had the Today show on and I thought to myself that I had been there and that I would never go the NYC again. Weird how things sometimes work out, huh?
'Night all!

SAFE VIBES FROM THE TURNERS FOR DR DANISE!!!!
I'll take them!!!!

We need to figure out what game we are going to play tomorrow leading up to the Awards. We could do:
Movie titles as food dishes
Changing one letter in the movie title to make a different type of film
Or
We could come up with a new and different game?

This is great!!! Usually I do the opposite, I think really good thoughts & seconds later something bad happens.

I thought the same thing about the dancer when I saw it at the movie theaters last year. I got the DVD as a belated Christmas present, but I haven't watched it yet. So, I guess I'm with you on not needing to see it again too soon.

SAFE VIBES FROM THE TURNERS FOR DR DANISE!!!!
Exactly.

A late dinner of roasted cauliflower with a parsley sauce on it (lots of garlic, capers and anchovies). It's so good I don't need anything else.
-
'night

I will probably be able to post during the Oscars. I can read the posts on my kindle.
-
What time does the Anderson Cooper show air in most markets? Here it is on NBC at 3pm.
-
Is a red eye flight any overnight flight?

Danise, I just hope that this will lead to you getting some money back or some work done for you.
Ditto.

For some reason The Amazing Race is on tomorrow. Here it is on a Canadian station at seven. So i will just watch it before the Oscars.
-
The Amazing Race is CBS, the Oscars are on ABC.
-
And in honor of the Oscars, I must retire to watch a classic film that somehow was overlooked by the Academy, 1972's ZAAT.
-
I'll post a flowchart later to explain that joke. ;)

I live and work about 50 miles from NYC

MANY vibes to DR Danise~~~~~~ I really hope that you get some help from somewhere finishing your house or get some money back. Enjoy being taken care of by the tv people. Hope you can log on to HHW or to your facebook page to keep us updated on how things are going. If you dont' have time while you are there, a full report will be expected when you return :)
-
DR Danise, somehow I think being on TV with Anderson Cooper will be much more exciting than being on the Today Show with Ginny and I....although we did have a pretty good time!
-
Tomorrow I am going to my first rehearsal with the Le Mars flute choir. I'll be mostly playing the alto flute. I'm really hoping this works out. From what I've heard, I think it would be a really fun group to be in. Our rehearsal is at 2:00. LeMars is also the ice cream capital of the world so my guess is after rehearsal I may have to eat some ice cream!
-
I put my picks in for the oscar contest I won last year. Not sure if I'll win again, I'll be surprised if I do. They did change the prize. My prize last year was a year pass for 4 people, now it's a $100 gift certificate. I spent more than that over the past year.
-
Love the book cover, BK, when will the book be available? Can't wait to read it
-
Oy, rain and snow coming Mon-Wed. I need to try to clean off my driveway from the last snow and ice. I was hoping it would melt on it's own....I guess it will eventually :)
-
Night, all.

Back from the very long outing. This was actually deja vu - same route as my old Chance Theater route - this theater's only about ten minutes from the Chance. The production was horrid - like high school. A few good cast members, but this theater "company" is run by three entitled twenty year old siblings with some kind of rich parents or a trust fund. The director just copied the movie staging as much as possible, cast a Captain Von Trapp who's a look-alike for Mr. Plummer, and there wasn't one idea in this production that was fresh. But, when you have all your friends and family in the audience you do get a lot of "woo hoo" shouting - they even did that after the Nun's sang.
