Well, you've read the notes, the notes were wholly dependent on the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the wholly dependent cows come home.

And now - our two new releases - they'll be live on the site at six, but if you want them before that you know what to do.

Kritzerland is pleased to present a new limited edition soundtrack CD – two great scores on one CD:

THE FLY

and

RETURN OF THE FLY

Music Composed by Paul Sawtell and Bert Shefter

“HELP MEEEEE”

The Fly began life as a short story by George Langelaan.  Twentieth Century-Fox snapped up the rights and hired James Clavell to write the script, his first screenplay assignment (Clavell would go on to write the screenplays for The Great Escape, 633 Squadron, The Satan Bug, To Sir, With Love, the latter which he also directed – he also become a very successful novelist, turning out such books as King Rat, Tai-Pan, Shogun, and Noble House, all of which became either films or mini-series).  Kurt Neumann was in the director chair.  He’d already done a couple of sci-fi films, Rocketship X-M and Kronos.  Of course, The Fly was both science fiction and horror.

A top-drawer cast was assembled, including young Al Hedison (who would soon change his name to David), Vincent Price, Herbert Marshall, Patricia Owens, and the child actor, Charles Herbert.   It was given the Cinemascope and color treatment (shot by veteran cameraman Karl Struss).  And it was a smash hit with audiences everywhere, grossing $3,000,000 on a budget of $700,000, in at time when those figures actually meant something.

In those days, sequels were not all that common, but after the success of the first film, Fox decided to do another Fly picture, Return of the Fly, which was rushed into production and released a year later.
The scores to The Fly and Return of the Fly were written by the team of Paul Sawtell and Bert Shefter.  Beginning with just the kind of bombastic and memorable music you’d want for a movie called The Fly, Sawtell and Shefter immediately introduce the theme for the happy couple at the film’s center, and it establishes immediately the human element of the story, which is so important for any sci-fi or horror film.  From there it’s classic Sawtell and Shefter, with the scary music and the human music balancing out each other and creating a symphony of terror and things gone wrong, all in that unbelievably great Fox stereo sound.   It’s one of the great sci-fi/horror scores.   Return of the Fly is equally strong as a score and it’s not just a rehash of the first score, which is refreshing.
The Fly and Return of the Fly were both previously released in a box set on Percepto Records (which also contained Curse of the Fly, composed by Shefter alone), which has been long out of print and hard to find.  For this reissue, we decided to just present the first two films, since they were made only a year apart and were both composed by Sawtell and Shefter.  We’ve done some cleanup work and remastered the sound, combined a couple of shorter cues and removed the “Fox Fanfare” since it obviously wasn’t composed by Sawtell and Shefter.  Both scores are complete – The Fly in glorious stereo, and the low budget Return of the Fly in glorious mono.   So, turn off the lights and bask in the eerie glow of two classic sci-fi/horror scores by the great team of Paul Sawtell and Bert Shefter.

The Fly/Return of the Fly is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98, plus shipping.

CD will ship the last week of August  – however, never fear, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

and

WALLANDER
Music from the original Swedish TV series
Music Composed and Conducted by Adam Norden

Believe it or not, it didn’t all start with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  No, Nordic crime novels, movies, and TV shows had been around long before.  One of the most successful of the Nordic crime authors was Henning Mankell with his series of Wallander books – they were beautifully written and seemed like naturals for movies and TV and so we first got a series of Kurt Wallander movies based on the books that had been written to that point in the 1990s – those starred the wonderful actor Rolf Lassgard.  Then the decision came that Wallander would start up again, this time as a TV series (with occasional movie releases), called, simply enough, Wallander.  That was great news for Wallander fans.  This time we got a new Wallander, Krister Henriksson.  As good as Lassgard had been, Henriksson was even better, perfectly embodying the character.  The first series consisted of thirteen ninety-minute films and was shot in 2005/2006.

The composer of all series one’s thirteen films was Adam Norden.  A prolific composer, he really captured the essence of the films and the characters with his evocative and perfect music. His music is a key element in making those films unique.  The scoring usually consists of recurring themes for Kurt and Linda, and the approach to orchestration is usually spare and filled with interesting textures and melodic invention, somehow capturing perfectly the loneliness, the cold, the sordidness of some of the crimes, the despair.   Most of the music is contemplative in nature, but there’s some wonderful action music, too, especially in the “Mastermind” film.

While some of the music has been available as downloads only and only outside the United States it has never had a proper CD release.  The show now has so many fans, thanks to its being aired in the UK and elsewhere (and now on DVD) that doing a CD release seemed like a no-brainer.  The selections as presented here were personally chosen and assembled by Norden (who also contributes to the liner notes) and are from his masters, which he owns.

If you’re a fan of the Wallander films, especially of that brilliant first series, then this will be a lovely souvenir of the music that made that series so memorable.  If you haven’t seen the series, the music stands perfectly well on its own and is a wonderful listening experience.

Wallander is limited to 1000 copies only.

I posted this yesterday, but wanted to make sure that those who needed to, saw it:

And speaking of sending things...I realized (and finally accepted) that I have lost my list of various movies that I was going to send to people, so if you wanted the Tony Awards, 1776, the 1929 Show Boat or the 1951 Show Boat, PLEASE let me know again and I'll MAKE SURE that I don't lose my list. :-\

AND if anyone else want these even if you didn't indicate that before, I'll be happy to send them to you, too.

Apologies for the brain fart. ::)

So, let me know...actually, I do know these:

1776 (laserdisc version):  Ben, Larry and Vixmom

What else??

Morning all.  Just finished walking 2 miles.

Not much new to say since last night.

Glad all is alright with you and your friend, BK.  It's never nice to have bad feelings between friends.

I won't give it away but "Falling Skies" was good.  I just wish there wasn't so many commercials though it.  It's almost worth the wait to the next night after it's recorded to be able to fast forward though them.  If I could just wait to see what is going to happen but I really like the show and can't wait.  :)

Vibes, happy thoughts and wishing all a wonder filled day!

Good morning, all! I had my usual trouble getting to sleep, but once I did, I slept quite well.

I finished watching the Brit sitcom MIRANDA yesterday: 2 seasons, total of 12 episodes, and I didn't want it to end. It's one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time, full of slapstick and rude humor, reminding me a lot of ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS. A nice surprise wasTom Conti showing up as her dad in the last episode. Most of my day was spent putzing about the apartment on various projects.

On Saturday, a friend sent me a download of the complete 1994 performance of VERY WARM FOR MAY at Carnegie Recital Hall. I had attended the dress rehearsal for John McGlinn to keep an eye on orchestra balances, and I had on iTunes a download of all the musical numbers, but I hadn't heard the whole performance since 1994 until yesterday. It was so much fun to hear it: Greg Jbara's final "All The Things You Are" still makes me laugh at his rendition and weep at the beauty of the moment.

So, I will shortly head downtown to the McGlinnventory to pick up more of the things gping to the Library of Congress and tote them up to Toyland for shipment. I must be back here by 1, since it's a repeat of last Thursday's debacle with Time Warner. On a positive note, boding very much good for the day, the package in Dublin held by customs was released and delivered about an hour ago.

I wasn't there for Opening Night of 42nd Street (I assume you're talking about the 1980 Gower Champion show) but I was there that Friday evening. It opened (after only 6 previews) on Monday, August 25th. The next day I got in a car and began the move to New York City from Coon Rapids, MN. We arrived on Thursday morning and I settled in to my temporary digs at 14th Street and 9th Avenue. The next night (Friday, August 29th) we went to 42nd Street and after the show we went to the late, lamented Jimmy Ray's. It was a wonderful show and a great evening. A wonderful way to begin life in New York. Then, exactly one week after I arrived in New York, I became a real New Yorker because I got mugged at 11:15am on 58th Street and Broadway as I was walking up to Lincoln Center Library. I never told my mother because she would have insisted that I move back to Minnesota (not that I would have).

I've now been here almost 32 years (August 28, 1980) and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Aside from your mugging, it was probably a wonderful time to live in the city.

Does anyone get "mugged" anymore?  I haven't heard anyone use that term in ages.

that was the first show I ever saw on Broadway, but by the time I saw it, Mary Cadorette had taken over the Peggy Sawyer role and Millicent Martin was the diva. Seeing 50 people tapping all at one time was a great intro to New York theater.

Had a Weetabix for breakfast but an hour later at the coffee shop I felt so hungry that I had to have a bacon roll.

I'll see your bacon roll and offer you a bacon cup.

I am home, and I need to vacuum before Time Warner shows up and begins crawling over the modem and plugs under my computer table.

The buildng management on West 27th Street boggles me. They know that we'rekeeping the office space, only the name of the company is changign and that Packard is moving out in the next couple of weeks, but they won't let us move the 23rd Street office in until 8/01! This is ridiculous. Why can't we move in on 7/31?

If your wires are anything like mine you have to worry about the Modem and Plugs crawling not the the guy from Time Warner.  I swear they do crawl when you are not looking because I don't know how those wires get so tangled up by themselves!!!!!

Got T-boned and pushed into a utility pole.  They took me to the hospital by ambulance and I was there for about 4 hours.  They did x-rays and nothing broken, but my shoulder and ribs are really really sore and I have lots of tiny cuts from all the broken glass.   We have a local photographer who shows up for this sort of thing and puts them on Facebook, so I shared them on my page.

Danise I recommend waiting to watch the show.  Watching without commercials is more enjoyable, especially for a suspenseful show like this one.
I know but I just can't wait to see what is going to happen.

Did you figure out the wi fi?  If not let me know and I will try to help.  I think your remote should look something like mine so I might be able to help with that as well.

You are very lucky.  Ribs can take a very long time to feel better.  Remember to take good breaths.  When my ribs were bruised I found I was taking shallow breaths and had to concentrate on breathing properly.

Those little glass cuts sound painful too.

George, I don't need My Fair Lady, just the 1776 Laserdisc DVD.

Possible My Fair Ladys were Kevin H. and Larry and maybe one or two others.

I'll add Kevin to the list...just in case...and unless I hear otherwise. :)

Thanks, George!

Now we need excellent vibes and xylophones and hope that Capitol did as we asked and saved their session to Pro Tools 9 instead of the latest version.  I sent them that info three times and hopefully it got passed along - if they didn't do what we asked, then it's another day while the engineer has to do the conversion at his day job - in that case we'd mix tomorrow night, but man, I really want to get this thing done tonight, so send them strong vibes and xylophones.

Had a Weetabix for breakfast but an hour later at the coffee shop I felt so hungry that I had to have a bacon roll.

I'll see your bacon roll and offer you a bacon cup.

I wonder if I can make those with vegetarian bacon.

That looks good. But i would not put salad in a bacon cup (since the salad is vegetarian)!

Am "glancing" at Big Brother.  Two wrong things there:  Mike "Boogie" and the brother of Russell Hantz (the most-hated player of Survivor EVER).  Willi Hantz talks "big" like Russell, but I'm hoping he'll actually turn out to be a better man.  So far, not much has happened.  Am following via Hamsterwatch.com.

I do have a bit of house news.

The lady from Frigidaire sent an email to Angies List and copied me asking for an up date.  I didn't say anything because, quite frankly I didn't know what to say.  Anyway, Angies List wrote her back and said they had heard from the contractor and that they hope to have the entire project done by the end of August.

I don't know what to think but unless they get a move on I don't see how it could all be done by then.  Not that I don't hope that it is true.

My sister openly spiked the punch at our sister in-law's baby shower.  She wouldn't listen to me when I insisted doing so was inconsiderate.  Obviously the mother of the baby couldn't drink any punch and why tempt my mother who was sober that day.  Fortunately my mother stayed away from the punch.  I didn't realize at the time that my sister also had a problem, which she never admitted to even after she completely stopped drinking.

Show Boat (1929):  John G.

I've been sending large files using DropBox and have great success.

Is it just www.dropbox.com?

yes

But you have to set it up on your desktop.  It's really easy

And if I set it up on my desktop, I can send you a link or something and you could download my files?  Would YOU (or anyone I'm sending the files to) have to install Dropbox to get the files?

Okay, so what I have so far is:

1776:  Ben, Elmore, Vixmom

My Fair Lady (audio only):  ChasSmith, Elmore, John G., Ron

Show Boat (1929):  John G.

Show Boat (1951):  John G.

Tony Awards:  ??

I know at least a couple of people wanted the Tony Awards, so let me know if you still want it.

Again, I'm sorry that I goobered.

Isn't there a double disk DVD set coming out of both Show Boats?

I hadn't heard.  That would be cool, if they were.

Fritz - the guy who plays him is on The Newsroom.  Don't know that he'll be a regular, but he's already been in 2 episodes and his character is in a "serious" relationship with one of the main characters

We don't have HBO & now without NetFlix I'm not sure when we will get some of these shows.

You can see the returning cast from THE CLOSER to the spin off MAJOR CRIMES.

It won't be the same without Kyra, but still could be very good.

I agree.

Cilla I hope you sleep well tonight.

I have muscle relaxants and hydrocodone for pain.  I'm thinking I'll sleep fine....it's the waking up that I'm concerned about.

When I saw George taking photos, I actually tried to call them from the accident scene.  I wasn't thinking that you'd have to be his friend on facebook to see them.  Anyway, they weren't home.  I got a hold of them from the emergency room.  So, they heard from me.

LOL, I think you should be concerned about the waking up part.

Can you work while on those meds?  I wouldn't be able to, but then muscle relaxants don't agree with me and hydrocodone makes me throw up.

VIBES THEY AGREE WITH YOU!

A relief I'm sure.

How did he know to show up at the accident?  Were you FB friends before he took the photos?

With the demise of the iDisk (really stupid of Apple to have done that), we're now using Dropbox - it was set up for me very poorly originally and we've been trying to figure it out ever since.  We've spent hours today learning and reorganizing, making new folders so that we're ONLY sharing folders that are relevant, rather than everything that we have in there.  It's complicated, but I think we've actually figured it all out now.

You're way ahead of me, DR Danise!  Today I did a mile and a third on the treadmill and 1300 steps on the NuStep.  Tomorrow morning I start a 6-week water aerobics class.

Is anybody here watching Big Brother or BBAD?  I can't believe how much i like BBAD.

I don't know why but i really like Willie. He does look and sound like Russell. But I"m not judging him by that.  I think it could be interesting with the coaches. Do they leave when their team loses? Janelle was referring to something called Halftime on BBAD. Do the coaches enter the game?  I don't know that i think that is fair. But i am loving the coaches twist.

At the gym today a new person in town asked me about the hiking trails which cut into my time on the treadmill.  I only did half a mile today instead of 1 mile, but I did it in six minutes.  Aside from various weights I did 25 minutes, instead of 20, on the stair master and 15 minutes, instead of 10, on the bike.  We also walked Yogi for about two miles.

DR Cillaliz, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident and I'm very thankful that you're OK!  Please ask someone to check on you tomorrow.

Paul is going to help me go to my car in the morning and get everything out of it. I'm also hoping to hear from the insurance people in the morning about getting a rental car (my ins covers it).  Since it was posted in FB and I told people it was me in George's photos, lots of people have posted and called tonight.  I'm sure I'll be checked on tomorrow.  The best thing is I didn't hit my head at all, not even on the airbag, so there are no concerns about a concussion etc.  Thanks for your concern.  I'll check in here when I wake up

DR Danise, I had already decided to start working on a diet.  My exercise may have to wait, but I have a refrigerator loaded with fruits, veges and healthy food.

At the hospital they asked if I have any medical conditions....I said "Well, I'm fat"  they laughed.  I'm determined to lose weight too.

I decided if I'm going to feel worse tomorrow I better get a shower before bed. It felt pretty good.  I did get a piece of glass out of my arm.  It looks worse that I thought, but I got it cleaned off, put on some neosporin and sort of bandaged it.  I'm icing my shoulder and just took my med.  Just need to ice my ribs and then will probably try to go to bed.

Back from a completely frustrating and crazy but ultimately rewarding mix.  I'll talk about it in the notes, but Capitol screwed up the transfer somehow - a whole tone too fast - we had no idea how such a thing could conceivably happen.  It was touch and go for a while, but my brilliant engineer figured out how to fix it with a vari-speed plug-in - it took about an hour for him to figure it all out, but then it was all perfect - we had the original CD to compare it to.  There were other really interesting things, but I'll save it for the notes.

Apple made a stupid decision getting rid of iDisk.  I think it may come back, though.  In some form.
