VIBES and a dose of Draggy-Listless-Day-Be-Gone for DR Elmore.

That may be Rodgers, but it's not Hammerstein!
DR JOHNG that was SOME photo from last night from 15 years ago.....it almost looks like you were in costume for a production of THE BOYS IN THE BAND.that's my demented look. When I don't want to be photographed. have a whole series of those. I believe I was cleaning up after serving a three-course dinner that night.
In Iowa if you vote early, they notify both parties that you've voted and you get taken off of all the calling lists....they could care a less if you live or die once you've already voted.
BK, I hope the upsetting thing is settled very quickly and in your favor.
BK, do the cameramen have trouble getting through a shoot without laughing? Or have they pretty much seen everything by this point?
I went to the City council meeting to complain about the stupid don't feed the deer or turkeys but ok to feed the squirrels and birds ordinance. They showed part of my comments on TV. I have had more people tell me that they saw that clip and they are against the ordinance than anything I've ever done. It's hilarious. People walk up on the street to say "I saw you on tv. I agree about the deer" LOL

It's okay - having to do some quick damage control, but hopefully it will all be fine.
DELIGHTED ( :) ) to report the arrival of DAVID AND BATHSHEBA (and SUGAR!) !!
(Just an FYI to BK -- the CD spindle in D&B was broken, with five of the little "points" missing - except for one which was floating in the case. No biggie, I'll move it all to a new case, only wanted to let you know.)

I need a nap. Got five or six pages done on the paper from hell, but it's all too depressing, so I'm off to sleep.
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm in still in Chicago!

Are you sure?
What a boring first half!
And now we're about to get ready to head to dinner at The Bristol (http://www.thebristolchicago.com/) where we will be supping with my friends, Cory and Lisa, who happen to be newlyweds. And then Lisa, David, Yosh and I will be heading to Navy Pier for tonight's performance of Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakes. -Cory has a ballet gig tonight - he's a clarinetist. Not a dancing clarinetist, he plays in the orchestra. ;)

Defensive battle, for sure!

I think it would be really cool if Cory was a dancing clarinetist!
Dinner at Alinea last night was beyond what I ever contemplated it would be. Yes, it was delicious, very delicious, but it was also humorous! Some of the dishes actually made me giggle! And they were supposed to do that. Yes, it's a temple to molecular gastronomy, but it tempers that very scientific approach with a very doesn't-take-itself-too-seriously side.
I believe the final count was 15 courses, but some of those courses consisted of multiple components. It was paced over the course of just under three hours. And the dessert was a literal child's playground of sugar. Yosh and I actually ended up eating the whole thing! -And then we walked for about two miles before I hopped back in a cab to David's place and he went to his hotel.
I did take a couple of pics, and I'll get them posted sometime. In the meantime... It was more than worth dealing with their "ticketing" system and the cost of said tickets.

I thought we had eaten there until I read your description of the restaurant which doesn't fit mine. I'll try and remember to ask Bryan.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I had a good friend, who died a couple of years ago, who was a great foodie and found dinner there to be a three-hour bore.
I haven't had a great deal of the molecular stuff myself. The closest we get here would be the smoke and mirrors of the nitrogen stuff, and I am not impressed. Still, everything I've read about Alinea intrigues me. Looking forward to the photos.
From Cilla:QuoteI went to the City council meeting to complain about the stupid don't feed the deer or turkeys but ok to feed the squirrels and birds ordinance. They showed part of my comments on TV. I have had more people tell me that they saw that clip and they are against the ordinance than anything I've ever done. It's hilarious. People walk up on the street to say "I saw you on tv. I agree about the deer" LOL
;D
Here there is a reason people shouldn't feed the wildlife, Bears & Coyote's. Not feeding the deer has not reduced their population. To keep deer away all landscaping would have to be removed.

DR George, thanks for the congrats yesterday

You have a very smart grandnephew :)I threw some bread out to the squirrels today. As I threw it I yelled "Here squirrels....come get some bread" :)
That sounds like my little grandnephew Cole when he feeds the squirrels! LOL!

By the way, I very highly recommend FRESHWATER ROAD! It is about a sheltered black girl from Detroit in the 1960s who decides to travel to Mississippi to help with registering black voters. Unfortunately, she finds out this is fraught with danger.
The author is Denise Nicholas, who many of you will remember from starring in the 1970s tv series ROOM 222. I suspect some of this book is based on her work with the civil rights movement. There is a lot in this book that is reminding me of the voter suppression that has been going on lately.
Here is Denise with her handsome co-star, and one of my favorite actors, Lloyd Haynes.

I love them, but had to stop feeding them when they started damaging property. They actually bent an iron shepard's hook that had a bird feeder hanging on it. The feeder was broken into several pieces.

and for those curious, here is a poster and trailer for YOUNG AND WILD!That was fun and I like the poster.
You can watch the movie on Netflix Streaming! it stars my dear, late friend Carolyn Kearney. What a sweetheart she was.
The narrator of the trailer is wonderful! Some great lines!

I sat down to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The main titles began and I closed my eyes for just a minute and when I opened them it was thirty minutes later. So, I went back and began again.
Looking forward to the new Outside the Box videos!

I remember thinking that if Karen Valentine was too silly to know she should get off that bus in the opening credits every week, I didn't want her teaching students-I didn't get that kind of no-laugh-track-comedy at first. :) They actually had a laugh track for a brief while, IIRC.

LOL Soooo, you agree it is best not to fee them, just not to make it illegal to do so ;)
DR George, thanks for the congrats yesterday
I apologize, I thought I had congratulated you this morning.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I think deer are so amazing to watch, I guess they could mess up whatever they wanted in my yard and I wouldn't mind. Such gorgeous creatures.
Of course my friend Mark in Wyoming doesn't feel the same way. He says they eat everything he plants in his yard and it drives him crazy. I just tell him he shouldn't have moved into the animal's territory. ;D

Count me among the Room 222 fans. Loved Denise Nichols enough that I'll have to check out her book.By the way, I very highly recommend FRESHWATER ROAD! Karen Valentine is from Santa Rosa. When I worked at the mall in Santa Rosa, Karen's sister worked at the Emporium. Side by side, they didn't look that much alike, but there mannerisms were so similar, there was no doubt who was her sister.
And now, I must be off. I'm going with my niece and my sister's boyfriend (my sister isn't feeling well today) to see a local reading of Dustin Lance Black's "8" at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2012/9/28/8-the-play-by-dustin-lance-black.html). Several friends of mine are in it. And right next door on the main stage is the Seattle Men's Chorus. Actually, I was supposed to usher for the chorus but couldn't because the tickets to "8" were purchased before I realized it. Anyway, it'll be a very interesting evening.
Until later!
