Well, you've read the notes, the notes went about their business, and now it is time for you to post until the business cows come home.

Good morning, all! I forget to take the muscle relaxer and my left shuld kept me up far too much last night. So, I slept very poorly and arose at 5:00am to vote at 6. I got to the polls around 5:45 and was home by 6:15. It was a whole new voting machine process, but I think I did it correctly. O'm debating going backto bed until 8 or stayng up. I have to be at City Center by 10:30 to help Joshie with a problem.

So, BK, I didn't see voting on your agenda for today.

I did get a text from Jonathan and I hope to meet him later today. I'm currently thinking I will come home from City Center and nap for acouple of hours, meet Jonathan, maybe, fordinner - I owe him one, and cme home for the election news.

I also got an email from the Man from Philadelphia about postponing Friday's meeting. This is fine with me, but it's hell scheduling all of the divas with whom I work!

I hate the new voting process. I assume they spent millions of dollars on the procedures but it still sucks. I can't believe with the technology available now we have to mark a paper ballot with a f*****g pen and put it in a scanner. There are better, easier and more secure ways to do this.

Luckily I voted a couple of weeks ago and mailed by ballot in.  Although the presdiential races may take awhile to sort out, at least all of the local elections will finally be through.

TOD: The insurance company I work at has electronic banners flashing about the dangers of texting and walking. Apparently it causes accidents 63% of the time because people get so involved in texting that they wander way off course. Imagine how much worse that is when you're behind the wheel of a car. I'm glad at least my city has outlawed texting while driving. Other cities in Texas haven't, which makes me not want to drive in them.

Must get ready for work.

Think I might stay home tonight, or maybe go to a friends house to watch the results.

Although I have been warned, much yelling will be directed at the TV.

I DID HAVE A NEW COSTUME for last night.  It is gray pants with a matching SHORT jacket with a peplum....a shirt with Louis IV sleeves, my white tights (that sounds like a song from THE MUSIC MAN), and a nice Pilgrim collar that ties in the front.  Of course as first I didn't see it, and put on my blue costume....then I looked again and there was the other one.

It is very nice, perhaps I shall get a photo tonight....  Of course the pants were even BIGGER than the blue ones.  They must be about size 50.  I had to hold them up or they would be on the floor.  I pinned them to my t-shirt, but that didn't feel too secure.  So I found a belt and cinched them....they seems to work....so there you are!!!

If only that were true here in Oakland.  We have "ranked choice" voting...and it takes them forever and a day to sort through everything and assess points based on the choices you make for 1st, 2nd and (if applicable) 3rd place.

TOD... People and their electronic devices....

I just had to expand after the things I have seen over the years in the NDSU library. I was always amused at individuals who would be talking on their phones and they would invariably walk into, unlocked doors and and the security gate. One person asked why the door was there after walked into it talking on their phone. I was pleasantly surprised that no one ever fall down the stairs. One woman did walk into the men's bathroom while talking on her phone. Two males in the bathroom were not amused. It grew even more interesting when texting became more popular. The number of individuals walking into the exterior doors increased.

In my opinion, if people are texting and walking to doors and walls, they really should not be driving and texting. We averaged three to five people  per shift I worked in walking into walls and the exterior doors. I would not be surprised if there were near misses on the streets around campus.

FArgo now has a heavy fine for texting and driving. It is enforced. Last week they had a sting to catch drivers for texting and driving. They stopped over 100 people. I look at drivers who text and drive to be as dangerous as drunk drivers if not more.

Back from the cows.

TOD --

Submitted for your approval...the genius driver BK and I saw on the way to The Smoke House.

As we approached the light at a busy intersection, it turned from red to green.  I don't recall whether we'd had to come to a full stop.  The traffic coming in the opposite direction was, however, at a full stop, several cars deep, and their light was turning green, too.  One problem:  the driver of the lead car at that light was standing outside his vehicle polishing his windshield.  When he saw the light was green he ran around to get back in his car, because he was now holding up his line of traffic.  He was still getting seated as we crossed through the intersection and passed slowly alongside him, whereupon BK opened his window and shouted, directly into the guy's face and for the cars behind him to enjoy, "You're an IDIOT!"

My fellow DRs, it was a moment of beauty on the streets of the San Fernando Valley.  I felt honored to have observed it, briefly entertaining the notion that the guy was sent out from Central Casting to perform for my personal benefit.

This is becoming Dublin Month!

I'm having dinner with Jonathan tonight at Joe Allen,  Fionnuala Hunt our concert mistress on EILEEN and DEAREST ENEMY, arrives tomorrow for a master class at NYU and concert with the wonderful Lynda Lee, our Lady Maude in EILEEN, that evening at the Metropolitan Club. I believe that Niall, one of our trumpet players, is in next week.

TOD, continued--

And was that the end of the evening's delights?  Not at all.

After dinner we were turning back onto our route when BK had to take evasive action when a car driven by an elderly gentlemen cut us off as it wandered from one lane to the other and back again.  The driver was clearly engaged in either dialing or texting, and wasn't even looking up as his vehicle proceeded apace.  Never mind that it was dark and that the streets of Burbank were hardly deserted.  We easily out-ran the threat, but not without a hair-raising moment or two.

These were actually two of the finest incidents I've observed over the past few months.

Good morning.  I, too, will vote on my way to rehearsal this eve.  I'll set aside an hour for this unless I head over earlier.  I'm still registered to vote in San Mateo.  Need to pull together a wedding plan for Saturday and then work on my musical a little today.  The lyricist emailed asking how things were coming along.  I told him fine, and now I have to show that it's fine!  I hope to write a ballad as catchy as "Memory" and make millions of bucks.  I reality, I'm sure nothing will change upon composition if said ballad.

I'm thinking for breakfast I'll heat up some of the tater tot casserole and maybe add an egg...

You see, darling elmore - I go about my business.  Some of my business I choose to talk about (most things) and some is, well, my business.  You will also note that I have never in all the years of HHW talked about my romantic life.  But you see, this response of yours is why I wrote today's notes - the attitude behind these kinds of comments is what I've been reading on Facebook and elsewhere for over six months now.  You know not what I am doing this day in terms of what you speak of and what I may or may not have done on previous days.  T'ain't nobody's business but my own.

My vote, for President, doesn't count either. That was shown in 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote but Bush won the electoral college. As long as that scam (the Electoral College) is in place, presidential votes are meaningless in my opinion. It may have been a necessary evil at the founding of the country but now it's just an excuse to steal an election.

Well, when I was in college I took several radio-tv courses with the idea of becomng a common - tater.

Here is a photo I found on the inner web and printed out for David.  Britt and I were talking about the show in the green room last night....  She mentioned that she had danced in a program with Ray Bolger when she was with the San Francisco Ballet, and that he was a delightful man.

He was THE STAR of Come Summer - and Britt mentioned that if David was getting too much attention in a scene or was singing or dancing a LOT - Mrs. Bolger who was at every rehearsal would demand that Ray be in the scene and be given AS MUCH to do. Britt says that because he was ALWAYS on, his dances - which were pretty much all the same - were repetitive and instead of it being special when he came out to do something, the audience was tired of him by intermission.....

She places the blame on Mrs. Bolger not Ray himself....or even on director of record Agnes de Mille...

The show was in February, 1969 - so I don't know if MR BK saw it or not....since he was in NYC around that time......

David certainly takes over this photo:

Mrs Bolger was a major producer of WHERE'S CHARLEY?  It had a few nasty preproduction goings-on behind the scenes.

This is why I don't want to drive in LA anymore.  If my shoulder locks I'm screwed.

Oregon has had vote-by-mail now for several years and I mailed in my ballot a week ago.

It is most convenient, especially since I like to have my voter pamphlet with me when I vote so that I can refresh in my mind what some of the ballot measures are all about and who some of the candidates are.

I mark my voter's pamphlet & go through it as I vote.  Since Keith filled his out first I looked to see where we deferred & to discuss why.  I think we voted differently on one local candidate & one of the state measures.  We tend to vote pretty much the same.

We never argue over our differences :)

I have to remind many people of this.  I had to listen to two complete idiots in the booth next to me pontificate about how they voted - it was kind of nauseating and amusing at the same time.  The big difference this year is Facebook, though - this did not happen like this four years ago - it was bad but not THIS bad.  And of course four years before that Facebook wasn't an issue at all.

Have you ever noticed that when you are at a red light and in a hurry it takes forever for the light to turn green?

But when you are at a red light and you decide to blow your nose or search for something in your glove compartment, the red light is suddenly the shortest red light ever?

;D

Or when you are late you get stopped at every light, however, when you are early you breeze through green lights.

I voted two weeks ago via mail-in ballot.  I actually walked it over to the Registrar of Voters office to save postage.   We had a cut-off date for mailing ballots in and it was sometime last week, IIRC.

I dropped my ballot at the Tumwater City Hall drop box...just half a block from where I live.  In Washington state, everything is mail-in ballots.  There are no actual voting places here anymore.  The problem in Washington is that the ballots just have to be postmarked by today.  They can be received over the next several days, so our results may not be "official" until later in the week.

And yet you voted ;)

I forgot until watching the extras last night that "The Manchurian Candidate" was attacked on release and that it was yanked after the Kennedy assassination for decades.

Then I remembered the re-release in the late 1980s and all the hoopla surrounding it. What a great movie it was. And very adult for 1962, when the Hayes Code was still in effect, albeit on its last legs.

It would not surprise me. I get the impression that the Cryers are being kind.  I had heard stories that others in the cast didn't like Bolger's insistence on being front and center. I suspect he needed Mrs Bolger as his best eyes and ears for remaining "the star," and I'd bet it went on during ALL AMERICAN as well. I have also heard that Bolger was really great with his fans.

We all have opinions about everything. Some choose to share and others choose to not.  My biggest issue with politics is when they drag religion into campaigns or laws.  Somewhere in the constitution is says something about the separation of church and state, but some politicians seem to forget that and force their religious beliefs into their campaigns and therefore, getting the "church" vote.  I feel many people forget to see the facts, the history, and the actual work (or not) of the previous presidents of this country and tend to go with what they are hearing now, even though previous presidents have proven that those ways or whatever don't work.  Stupid mistakes that have cost our country war, deficits and the like are there in black and white.  If you like these things, good for you, although I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would, and I'm sad to think that there are people that want the politicians in their bedroom, or do they?  This is suppose to be the land of the free, but some politicians are doing their best to make it the land of "How they think it should be".

I don't get mad at people's opinions or their choices, what I get irritated about is how stupid people can be that they want these things to happen in our country again - continuation of war, deficits, Christian "values" in a country that has freedom of religion, etc.  You really can't take what you want here, you get it all or nothing.  Be sensible.

Thank you for listening.

Stan's apple fritters are still my favorite.  Keith is torn between them and his new favorite, the peanut butter filled ones.

Thank you for that info and the link!

Stan's is one of the great institutions, to be sure.  I will never forget how, back in the days when Westwood was still Westwood in all its glory, at the end of the night when you could drop by the window at Stan's and take home a large bag holding a week's worth of donuts for a dollar.  Well, week's worth for a normal person.  Weekend, maybe, for the likes of moi.

(Vienna is also THE Chicago hot dog brand.)

Didn't know about that.  Even though my mother had a cousin in Chicago we never went, to my great regret.

The first memory I have of ever having a hot dog was at the Orange Julius stand on the southwest corner of Pico and Robertson, sometime back around the time MAD magazine first hit the stands.  There was a newsstand next door where I got my MAD issues (in comic book form) and the a Julius and hot dog with mustard and onions.  I was probably six at the time.

Was it outside or inside of a drug store?  I have a memory of my mother taking me to a counter for my first Orange Julius.  I thought it was in that area, I'm vague on the location, pretty sure it was a drug store, positive it was a Julius.

They had a window to the street, but yes, inside a drugstore.  I think it went away in the late 1950s.

Thank you.  After that, until San's I don't recall having a good Julius.  After Stan's I never did. Stan's were so good because he doubled the ingredients or added something extra.  You have to ask him.   My sister and I used to make our own with ice cream, even better.

Catherine Damon of SOAP fame?

Yup. She did a few musicals, including Flora, the Red Menace. But Soap is how I always think of her.

It is...here's the entire series (http://www.amazon.com/Soap-Complete-Packaging-Katherine-Helmond/dp/B0016MJ73M/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1352248324&sr=1-1&keywords=soap+tv+series). I bought it a couple of years ago from Costco for only $20. :D

You can also get the individual seasons and might be able to find the whole series of good enough copies for less than the price of the set.

It probably was.  I really can't remember my first one, I do remember they had good hot dogs there.

When I went to Stan's from the Bruin a co-worker took me down the street to a new hot dog place that opened up.  I only got to go once or twice, but until I had a Cupid's, it was the best hot dog stand I went to.

Why?  Both involve politics.  My voting has nothing to do with anyone but me.  If you can show me otherwise, feel free.  As with most people, what I do and don't do and what I choose to share in regards to that is between me, myself, and I.  I don't ask people if they voted - what do I care?  People do what people do, it's their business not mine.

After all of those posts yesterday, I decided to run over to the grocery store today to pick up some Tater Tots.  Wouldn't you know it?   Tater Tots are being rationed and they are using the odd and even system.  Today was an "even" day, and for some reason, they decided I was odd.

I went to the grocery store at noon today and the tater tots that were on sale were all gone!!!   I did find some that weren't on sale and picked up the other ingredients so I can eat tater tot casserole as the returns come in

Obviously, Cilla, then you must be even.

One of our candidates for governor said this evening that he doesn't expect the new governor to be named before the end of the week.

George, were you able to record that movie?

Yes!  I just need to go through and cut out the commercials.

I just got a call from my ex-boyfriend!  We've kept in touch since we broke up.  He's in Hawaii on vacation and wanted to chat and find out the latest.  I got to tell him that Obama was reelected and that gays will be able to get married. :D

No...if we were still together, I'm sure that we'd be married.  He lives in Seattle and doesn't have a car, and his job takes him out of town for a week, every other week.  I actually broke up with him because of the situation, not because we weren't getting along.

Great, legal marijuana - just what we need.  Kids can now get high all they like and all will be wonderful.  Not.

I voted against it.

The good news I suppose is that smoking marijuana is still against Federal law.  So, it is not clear whether anything will really change about the law passing in Washington.

The funniest moment of the entire evening was when one of the political pundits on ABC said with conviction that this may be the last time in history when two white males will battle for the Presidency.  There was this strangled silence until Jake Tapper said, "Everybody does already know that Barak Obama is black?"

LOL!

It really is like high school on Facebook right now.  That part never changes.

I've checked a few things on Facebook, mainly what my niece has been posting.  She's on the board of the local PFLAG chapter, so she's really invested in Referendum 74 (even though she's not in a relationship).
