Well, you've read the notes, the notes went round and round and round, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they currently no longer believe the MOOyan calendar.

And here are our three new releases!  They'll be live for ordering at six, but if you want them sooner you know what to do.

Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere limited edition soundtrack release – two great scores on one great CD:

HUD

Music Composed and Conducted by Elmer Bernstein

and

THE LONELY MAN

Music Composed and Conducted by Nathan Van Cleave

THE MAN WITH THE BARBED WIRE SOUL

Based on the 1961 novel Horseman, Pass By by Larry McMurtry (The Last Picture Show, Terms of Endearment), Hud featured a powerhouse cast – including Newman, Melvyn Douglas, Patricia Neal and Brandon de Wilde.  With a great screenplay by Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank Jr., direction by Martin Ritt, and striking black-and-white photography by the brilliant James Wong Howe, Hud leaps off the screen from first frame to last.   Bosley Crowther’s review in The New York Times was typical, trumpeting Hud as the year’s “most powerful film.”  The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won three – for Best Supporting Actress (the superb Patricia Neal), Best Supporting Actor (Melvyn Douglas) and Best Cinematography (James Wong Howe).

Elmer Bernstein’s score for Hud runs approximately six minutes, making it one of the shortest film scores ever.  But what a six minutes it is – in fact, it’s perfection and just right for the film.  Bernstein recorded his six minutes twice: once with a 12-piece ensemble, and then, a week later, re-orchestrated (by Bob Bain) for three guitars.  Presumably the revision was at Ritt’s request for a smaller and even more intimate sound – which really was the right choice.  The music is sparse, yes, but it’s potent every time it appears.  There’s also some source music in the film – car radios, jukeboxes, records.

For this first ever release of the score to Hud, we present not only the film version of the score, but also the alternate version scored for chamber orchestra, as well as some source music cues.  It was a wonderful discovery to find it on the session masters housed in the Paramount vaults, and the tapes were in excellent condition.

In looking for something to pair with Hud, we found a truly beautiful score by Nathan Van Cleave for the 1957 western The Lonely Man.  Starring Jack Palance and Anthony Perkins (with a great supporting cast of character actors including Elisha Cook Jr., Robert Middleton, Neville Brand, Claude Akins and Lee Van Cleef), The Lonely Man is a stark and somber western about a former gunslinger and his attempts to do something for the son who hates him and from whom he’s been estranged for years.  Well directed by Henry Levin (April Love, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Where the Boys Are, The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm) and stunningly photographed in VistaVision and black-and-white by Lionel Lindon, The Lonely Man may not be well known today, but it’s a solid film and one well worth seeking out.

Nathan Van Cleave’s score is a major discovery, as you’ll hear on this CD.  Van Cleave had been at Paramount for years, orchestrating some of their biggest hits.  But he was also an expert composer, and over the years he turned in wonderful scores for such films as The Colossus of New York, The Space Children and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and provided music for such classic TV shows as The Twilight Zone, Wagon Train, Have Gun – Will Travel, Perry Mason and I Spy.

For The Lonely Man, Van Cleave came up with a beautiful main theme, for which Jack Brooks provided lyrics; Tennessee Ernie Ford sings the song in the film.  The score has real depth and its secondary themes are dramatic, elegiac and poignant, giving the film a strong spine.  The Lonely Man is a world premiere release on CD and is presented complete from tapes housed in the Paramount vaults.  A few cues were taken from the music stem.  We hope you’ll enjoy discovering this really terrific music.

Hud/The Lonely Man is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98, plus shipping.

CDs will ship the second week of February.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Here's release number two:

Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere limited edition soundtrack release – two great scores on one great CD:

HOT SPELL

Music Composed and Conducted by Alex North

and

THE MATCHMAKER

Music Composed and Conducted by Adolph Deutsch

How many women star in their first movie at age fifty-four – and win an Oscar for doing so?  Well, that’s what happened to Shirley Booth when she made her film debut for Paramount, reprising her Tony Award-winning role in William Inge’s Come Back, Little Sheba.   Booth had already had a hugely successful theatre career and stage work is what she preferred, making only a total of five films before going on to become a TV star in the hit series Hazel.  She made her final two films in 1958 and both of them are represented on this world premiere CD release.

Hot Spell had a powerhouse cast; in addition to Booth, the film starred Anthony Quinn, Shirley MacLaine, Earl Holliman and Eileen Heckart.  The film’s screenplay by James Poe is clearly in Tennessee Williams and William Inge territory.  Booth has a field day with her role – delusional, flighty, and eternally optimistic in the face of the drama around her.  Quinn is powerful in his role as someone who doesn’t want to be clung to and whose mid-life crisis results in tragedy for everyone.  MacLaine was wonderfully fresh and unique at this point in her career – there wasn’t anyone else quite like her working in movies – and Holliman and Heckart both shine.

The score for Hot Spell was by the brilliant Alex North.  By that point in his career, North had been composing for Hollywood films since 1951, when he came out swinging with three incredible scores – The 13th Letter, A Streetcar Named Desire and Death of a Salesman (he received Oscar nominations for both Streetcar and Salesman).  North’s Hot Spell score is all yearning, delusion and heartbreak.  His music brilliantly illuminates the drama and the characters – their hopes, their dreams, their heartaches.  Thanks to North and the actors (as well as the excellent writing and directing), what could have easily devolved into a melodramatic potboiler becomes a compelling character-driven drama.

Shirley Booth’s other star turn that year was the polar opposite of Hot Spell: the delightful film adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s popular stage success, The Matchmaker.  Paramount brought it to the screen, starring Booth as Dolly Gallagher Levi, Paul Ford as Horace Vandergelder, Anthony Perkins as Cornelius, Shirley MacLaine as Irene, and Robert Morse reprising his stage role as Barnaby.  The screenplay was by the great John Michael Hayes (Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much) and the film was directed by Joseph Anthony, who, the year before, had brought the play The Rainmaker to the screen for Paramount.  Of course, it would be just a few years later when The Matchmaker would undergo yet another transformation, this time being turned into a big, splashy hit Broadway musical, Hello, Dolly!

Helping the fun immeasurably is the score by Adolph Deutsch, which captures the homespun Americana beautifully.   His music includes quotes from traditional music of the era (“Buffalo Gals”), but is also filled with his own wonderful, melodic themes.  Deutsch wittily underscores the monologues of various characters delivered straight to the camera, or budding love, and Dolly’s machinations to bring everyone together in blissful happiness – including her own.  Adolph Deutsch was a really unsung film composer, especially considering the large number of huge hit films he worked on.  Although his name is not that well known today, he wrote some absolutely stellar scores during his long career, including the music for such all-time classics as They Drive by Night, High Sierra, The Maltese Falcon, The Mask of Dimitrios, Father of the Bride, Tea and Sympathy, Some Like it Hot and The Apartment.

So, two great Golden Age scores – one steamy and tragic, one charming and delightful – by two great composers: Alex North and Adolph Deutsch.

Hot Spell/The Matchmaker is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98, plus shipping.

CDs will ship the second week of February.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

And release number three - an Encore Edition so if you have the two CD set from two years ago, you don't need this one.

IF YOU’VE GOT A TASTE FOR TERROR… TAKE CARRIE TO THE PROM

Kritzerland is proud to present a very special limited edition soundtrack CD – an Encore Edition for:

CARRIE
Music Composed and Conducted by Pino Donaggio

In 1976, director Brian De Palma had already established a reputation as a cult director of such films as Greetings, Hi, Mom, and more importantly, Sisters, Phantom of the Paradise, and Obsession. But it was his film of Stephen King’s classic, best-selling first novel, Carrie, that would catapult him into major director status. Many directors have tackled Stephen King, including King himself, all to varying degrees of success, but Carrie is the film that leads the pack.

De Palma got everything right – the casting (an amazing group of actors, including Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, John Travolta, Nancy Allen, P.J. Soles, and Betty Buckley), the adaptation by Lawrence D. Cohen, the art direction (Jack Fisk and Bill Kenney), camerawork (Mario Tosi), editing (Paul Hirsch) – everything just came together magically and perfectly. The film works so well because there is not only great horror (as to be expected), but also a large helping of emotion and pathos (thanks to Sissy Spacek’s affecting and brilliant performance as Carrie). There is a depth to the characterizations that elevate the film way beyond a simple scary movie. The film also has a sly sense of humor and it’s just fun in a way horror films seldom are – thrills, chills, laughs, and one of the most amazing jump-out-of-your seat scares in the history of cinema.

Horror films are rarely nominated for Academy Awards, but Carrie was one of the exceptions with Sissy Spacek getting a Best Actress nod and Piper Laurie getting one for Best Supporting Actress. Over the years, the film has never lost on iota of its popularity, thanks to numerous releases on every home video format, most recently on Blu-ray.

Of all the decisions De Palma made, one of the most important was choosing Pino Donaggio as composer. De Palma had used Bernard Herrmann on two of his films – Sisters and Obsession, but Herrmann had passed away in 1975. In 1976, Donaggio only had one major film to his credit, but his score to that film was masterful – Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now. However De Palma came to choose Donaggio, it was a perfect marriage of composer and film. Donaggio’s score hits all the right notes – he brings out every emotion and all the subtext, with great suspense and horror music, plaintive and yearning music for the character of Carrie, two songs for the prom sequence (with lyrics by Merritt Malloy) that help make that sequence so magical and memorable, and light and infectious music for the calisthenics sequence and the scene at the tux shop. It is, in fact, a perfect score, a masterpiece of film scoring, with unforgettable themes that capture every nuance of the film.

United Artists released the soundtrack album on LP. It was an odd presentation in that almost all of the music was from the film’s second half, save for the main title sequence (which was repeated verbatim at the end of the album). The album ran thirty-five minutes. That LP was released twice on CD – first by Ryko (with dialogue snippets included to pad out the running time), and then by Varese Sarabande (with the dialogue snippets gone). Ryko used the album master, and the Varese was a clone of the Ryko release (the pop songs used in the film were not available to them or to us).

For this very special Encore Edition, we are pleased to present what was CD 1 of our previous 2-CD release (the second CD was simply the third release of the LP tracks and we are not including that disc in this 1-CD release) – the complete score to Carrie – every note of great music, in film order, remixed from the original sixteen track session tapes housed in the MGM vaults.  We also found two instrumentals of the songs, which we’ve included as bonus tracks.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98, plus shipping.

CD will ship the second week of February – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).

I have to agree with BK about the over promoting of the film version of Les Miz. From what I have experienced in the past when a film gets too much promotion there is usually something wrong.

Also not mentioned in BK review is that a lot of the songs have been truncated for the film version. I never been a Les Miz fanatic as I think the score is not one of the greats for reasons I have mentioned here before

Friday morning greetings!  Snowy and blowy here in SW Ohio today.  We have a dusting of the white stuff, but traffic seems to be moving OK on Central Avenue, which I can see from here at my desk.  I've even seen school busses, so Middletown must be in session today.

I've never been a LES MIZ fanatic either, and I came to getting to know the thing way later than BK or anyone else did, and I only did so by playing keyboard in the "school version" -- which turned out to be version enough for yrs truly, thank you very much.  (I think there are three keyboard books in the Broadway version and two in this one?  Whatever it was, they only had me so I had to pick and choose, and there was never a dull moment.)

Anyhoo, I came to like and appreciate most of it, but I never got over finding certain passages overlong and tedious, although that could very likely be attributed to the production I was subjected to.  I've never gone to see another one.  Haven't even watched the televised one(s) except for snatches here and there.  I take comfort in knowing that, should I eventually want to properly immerse myself in it, there's no end of resources out there.

So am I interested in this film?  I might have been, at least enough to go see it once in a theater, had we not already been through this grotesque show of over-promotion, and (of course) had I not heard the reports of people I trust.  I probably will stick my head in and see if I want to watch it, as it doesn't cost me a cent now to see anything now at the local plex since a close friend is one of the managers.  I can sample or sit through any damned thing I want, as often as I want.  As for when this might happen, who the hell knows! -- for all the previewing, I don't think I've heard a peep as to when it will finally get here.

On top of everything else, I'm sorry to hear about the audio quality and balance.  As I'm understanding it from what BK describes ... I HATE THAT in films and recordings.

Dryer is scratch and dent - washer was a return because "customer did not like" - but they had both been checked and refurbished....so we got both of them for the price of one of them.  The dent in the dryer faces the wall, so it is not even visible....

Enjoyed the radio show.....DR MBARNUM have you listened to it yet?  The subject is a friend of yours.

Thanks for reminding me, DR JRand. I do need to listen to that. Charles is a very nice guy and also, very, very talented...as of course, was his mom.

Thanks for the comments on the photos......yes she loved them.....they are very nice.

Dryer is scratch and dent - washer was a return because "customer did not like" - but they had both been checked and refurbished....so we got both of them for the price of one of them.  The dent in the dryer faces the wall, so it is not even visible....

Would like to have afforded a higher end range, but there were no S/D ones available.....and no S/D fridges either.....

I guess I am too much of a bargain shopper.

Me too. It is always hard to pay full price when you know you can get it cheaper.

Nice photos,. Jrand!

Trivia:  The Dryer and The Washing Machine were characters in CAROLINE OR CHANGE, and had memorable musical numbers.
Indeed, here's the cast list.  http://ibdb.com/production.php?id=11975

Perhaps ours can audition for a community production of the show!

They have made three arrests in the Indianapolis south side house explosion that killed two neighbors......

They arrested the homeowner, her live in boyfriend, and his brother.....

Microwave was connected to the gas fireplace - timer activated by remote control by the brother from his van later in the day after gas from the fireplace had filled the house.....while the other two were at a local casino....

My interview went really well this morning, but they didn't pick me.  They picked the woman who doesn't live around here.  So, that means that I'm going to get a nice vacation next week and will work on moving forward with some changes around the office that Edith and I have been discussing.  I'm really ok with this. The whole process was really a good thing for me.  It made me think about where I am, what I'm doing and how successful I am right now.   I was encouraged to apply for a judicial position in the future.  Don't know if I'll do that or not.  I guess time will tell,

Well, the difference is the work that this position does as opposed to the work other judges do.   There are very few associate district court judges, so the openings don't come around very often and probably won't again for years. There are occasionally district court judge openings, but they do lots of divorces, probate and civil cases, stuff I'm not really interested in.  That's why I say I'm not sure I would apply.  They judges encouraged me to apply in the future, it just depends what the job involves before I would consider it

DVD - The Edgar Ulmer Collection.....most entertaining....especially the interview with Ulmer's daughter explaining how she finally came into possession of the elements of THE DAUGHTER OF DR JEKYLL.

Her father had had a partial interest in the film when it was released by Allied Artists.....whose library eventually came to be owned by Warner Bros.....and she would get reports now and then that NEW PRINTS were being struck and freight for transportation had to be paid up until the late 1990's....so her share of the JEKYLL profits were about $8 or $9 per year....

This is sad news:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/nyregion/spencer-cox-aids-activist-dies-at-44.html?_r=0

In summer 1988, Spencer was my intern at The Drama Book Shop. He was funny, sassy, energetic, and through him I met Anthony Rapp and playwright Jonathan Sherman, who had gone to school with him. On his last day of work, before he went back to Bennington, I took him to see the John Waters film "Hairspray." I lost touch with him although I knew he'd become an AIDS activist. What's sad is to have thought someone was dead only to learn that they were still alive and you might have spent time with them before their end.

No, DR JRand62, I didn't.  I had several friends from the Book Shop and Men's Chorus who were heavily involved with ACT UP.  I have a memory of talking on the phone to Spencer around 1990-1992, when I learned that he was positive - someone from the Book Shop might have told me - but we lost touch after that, and I had honestly thought for the past 10 years or so that he had died.

After a while, you just assume that someone you knew was positive has passed on if a space of time has gone when you hear nothing from them, although in Spencer's case, if I had been au courant on the AIDS issue, I would have known he was still around.  Between 1982 and 2012, I've lost too many friends to that damned plague. We living must tell their stories, sing their praises, and insure that they are not forgotten or overlooked.

CD - THIS CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS Vol. 3, a HOLIDAY INN soundtrack that I think came with the DVD, which seems to have an alternate take or two, and I just got to CAREER (great score!!! -- I'm sorry to say I've never seen the movie).

DVD & BLU holiday stuff - WHITE CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS STORY (and the documentary ROAD TRIP FOR RALPHIE), NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION, SANTA CLAUS (the 1959 Mexican film that everyone but me has seen), and the recently acquired BING CROSBY and BELL TELEHPONE HOUR specials.

BLU - BELOVED INFIDEL and HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN.

I have never heard of the 1959 Mexican movie, SANTA CLAUS.

Also, the recording is only being released as a single CD.  I got an announcement e-mail from dresscircle.co.uk and they had this notice in their e-mail:

Quote
We know of no plans for a full recording to be made available in the near future. This is the highlights CD.

And if you would like to hear (and see  ;)  ) Victor Turpin (be carefull, he is shirtless in part of this music video), just click on this youtube video to see one of his songs.

Very nice!  And he's a pretty good singer, too.

Larry, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

TOD:

Wow, DR TCB, even as a kid you never saw this kooky classic? Well, this trailer will give you an idea of what you have missed....or not.

I was wrong -- SO WRONG -- about Shake Shack not doing bacon.  You can get it on anything.  But not only that, the SmokeShack (which includes it) is to die for:  "cheeseburger topped with Niman Ranch all-natural applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce".

Scroll down for menu:
http://www.shakeshack.com/location/westport/

I ate one of the above (single), and one double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onions.  Impossible to say that one is better than the other.  This is bliss.  And if I hadn't had to get back on the road because of extremely heavy traffic and obligations this evening, I would have eaten a third something or other like the glutton I am.

While I was eating, a Pat La Frieda truck (meat purveyor to the ye gods) made a delivery.  I wanted to hold up that truck.

The dent in the dryer faces the wall, so it is not even visible....

When I got my new washing machine & dryer I was doing the paperwork to purchase the floor model for the washer when the saleswomen took the time to verify I had noticed all of the scratches and dents.  I was so busy looking at the top of the machine I hadn't noticed the large area of dents and scratches in the bottom front of the machine.  It was going to be far too visible from where I am sitting right now & so I passed on the good deal.

Charges include murder......

Kind of shocking that they thought they could get away with something like that. Don't they ever watch any of those CSI type shows?!

They were desperate and certainly thought all evidence would be destroyed.....the blast leveled at least two homes and 33 other homes in the subdivision have to be razed.....

Desperate..... interesting.   Does this mean they kind of had a good reason to murder the neighbors.

As always your attitude is excellent.  Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't pick you.

Well, my mood has gone from "I'm ok"  to being ticked off to hurt and all over the map today.  I went shopping for something for mom and ran into one of the commissioners, she told me I was their first choice from the first ballot all the way through (this was the round of 16 interviewees).  She said some very nice things and made me feel really good.

Then I got an email from one of the judges' court reporters telling me she hopes I apply for a district court judgeship or a federal judgeship.   I don't want either of those jobs and told the judges that.  So I'm beginning to think that they decided I'd try for a higher position later.   I guess I wasn't speaking English when I told them I didn't want to be another judge I wanted to be this judge.

Back from the editing room, picking up some packages, and no important envelope (different important envelope - the old important envelope is not an issue anymore, because its contents are now being paid direct into my account, which is much easier), then taking possession of ten boxes of Jane Lanier's caramels (she recommended them to be in the refrigerator until given out.  I then had a visit from muse Margaret's husband, and I gave him a box of caramels to take home.  The eight other boxes are now in the fridge, with the ninth box out and ready for my taste bud delectation.

DR Cillaliz, I didn't want to be a downer earlier, but wanted to tell you not to be surprised to be blindsided by these kind of feelings later.  In December of 2000 I applied for, and didn't get, a branch manager position.  Thought I was fine with it until spring of the following year when I was passed over for a position I really didn't want, but at that time I mourned heavily over the branch manager position.

Be kind to yourself and enjoy your vacation!

Groan, it is snowing again.  This morning we walked down to the mailbox with shovel in tow.  Keith did more of the road this time, completely shoveling one tire track for the car, and then we drove the car on the road twice.  The first time for a trip to the market & then Keith went back down to get the mail.

Thanks for all your support today.   The funny thing is it really is for the best. I just don't like the way it happened.

At least you had time for your first reaction before hearing why you didn't get it.

Well, I don't really know why I didn't get it. I've heard a couple different things, but that's really irrelevant.  The fact is I didn't.  I do really believe it's for the best and I'll be fine with it as soon as I get done being ticked off  :)

Sorry!

I don't get why you didn't get the job if you were their first choice. That doesn't make much sense.

At least if you knew you were the second choice it would make more sense.

Hopefully you get a better explanation.

But at least now you and Edith can do more great work. And knowing you were the first choice should make you feel great. They loved you!

I went over to my sister's house earlier so I could watch the finale of Dexter. And I had to pick up my niece from school/daycare after school. Only as I was turning onto my sister's street did I realize I didn't bring my purse. Just put all my stuff into a bag with a zipper. I had everything but the little purse with the key to my sister's house. :(

Luckily there was a spare key I could pick up only 7 minutes away. But it still added 20 minutes.

And the weather wasn't too great today. Although it was much better than what they had been expecting.

It snowed overnight and during the morning. They rained all afternoon/evening. So the roads were clear of snow. Just wet. Hopefully all that water will melt with salt and not freeze.

DR ELMORE did you know Schorling Schneider an actor who lived in NYC for many years.....he was also an AIDS activist particularly with Equity.....

My deepest sympathies, elmore.  I, too, lost a great many wonderful and talented friends.

Wow, DR TCB, even as a kid you never saw this kooky classic? Well, this trailer will give you an idea of what you have missed....or not.

Should I watch Life of Pi or the new Eyetalian Blu and Ray of the extended Once Upon a Time in America, which contains a little over twenty minutes of new footage, making the running time four hours and twenty minutes, I think - something like that.  I think we know Mr. Leone was smart enough to know his film could and should never be that long.  He knew he was pushing it at the almost four-hour mark.  Not every scene shot is meant to be in a film.

DR Jane:  I keep forgetting to ask, and just now remembered --

How long is all of that driveway?  Is there some reason you don't use a snow-blower or something to alleviate the need for shoveling those huge areas?

I think in these terms because my driveway is a horror in winter.  It's a couple of hundred feet long (don't know exactly), and hilly.  When we get any real snow covering, my neighbor very kindly plows the whole length of it.  I then run the snow-blower up and down once just to clean up where necessary, do the whole turnaround area at the house and garage, and that pretty much limits shoveling to just around the house.

Catching up with the 2012 Michael Buble special.  The Bing Crosby duet is a strange use of technology.  It could have used more of a laugh track.  It makes Bing Crosby seem as if he's not a nice person.

The driveway is about 400 ft (top section flat, rest is a hill) and the road is a half mile.  Keith did 2 hours of shoveling because he shoveled single tracks for the car.  The snow was too slushy & would have clogged the blower.  The road, also a hill, has areas that get icy so it is best to shovel tracks and/or sections of the road to be safe.  We could wait it out but we get restless.  I don't shovel, except maybe the steps, or use the snow blower since my shoulder was messed up.

Got it, DR Jane.  That all makes sense.  The slushiness is the worst thing to have to deal with when it comes to cleanup.  Heavy and horrible, nothing remotely fun about it.

Not that ice is any picnic!  But at least you can put sand and/or salt down and get moving on it soon enough.

Another downer: We ordered another case of books with two-day delivery and, two days later, the books didn't arrive. And we have a signing tomorrow with only about one case of books. Given the response this one is getting, I think we could have been able to sell an extra half case tomorrow. I've sold many this past week to people wanting last-minute gifts, and that's what several have mentioned they were planning to do tomorrow.

sometimes it is also because the people granting the job think they know better than the applicant what the applicant's true desires are. The fact that they keep mentioning higher judge ships makes me think that they found our dear Cilla to be "over qualified" for the job and that she would be bored and leave the position for a better one after  a short time leaving them the chore to replace her

Catching up with the 2012 Michael Buble special.  The Bing Crosby duet is a strange use of technology.  It could have used more of a laugh track.  It makes Bing Crosby seem as if he's not a nice person.

Did a stupid thing tonight. Lost my work badge. I was unloading books in the car and I remember it getting in the way. The next thing I knew, the badge was gone. I drove back and looked around but couldn't find it. I think it's $100 to get it replaced, plus it'll be a headache trying to get on campus Monday morning.  >:(

It may have gotten caught by the books -  did you check  to see if it is stuck in one of them?

Another downer: We ordered another case of books with two-day delivery and, two days later, the books didn't arrive. And we have a signing tomorrow with only about one case of books. Given the response this one is getting, I think we could have been able to sell an extra half case tomorrow. I've sold many this past week to people wanting last-minute gifts, and that's what several have mentioned they were planning to do tomorrow.

I could sign my copy and send it back to you

SOOOOOO

I ordered an Amazon  gift card in a snowflake tin with free next day delivery from Amazon on Sunday

it did not arrive Monday  OR Tuesday

I checked ordered status on Tuesday night and found my order had been cancelled because they were out of snowflake tins

SOOOOO I ordered a gift card ina different kind of box  with free next day delivery -  it did not arrive -

tonight I discovered that it was in the FEDEX facility on Long Island but was just not delivered -  I tried to get a human being on the phone for over an hour but I was continuously disconnected

this was a gift for my SIL  and we are seeing them  Sunday so now I must see if I can get the card locally and I am going to ahrv an extra one  as I am sure I will not be able to return it --- this makes me  quite annoyed

I need BK over here to speak strongly to people ( assuming HE could actually get through to a human being)

I parked and went over to the marshall and asked what was happening

"It's a car accident lady, you gotta turn around"

"It looks like its at my house  - is everyone OK?"

"What's your address?"

I told him --

"OK I'll move so you can go around me,   a lady lost control of  her car and  hit your fence.  The cop is still there you can get a police report"

So I  was let down the street  and was able to get into my driveway

The ambulance was just leaving and the flat bed truck was loading the car  - the whole front end of which was strewn across my street, my sidewalk,  my yard....

The fence is bent up and the grass has some deep gashes in it

When the last guy went through the fence (about 5 years ago) my Mom wanted me to replace the cyclone fence with pretty plastic  fence or wooden one -- since we had already had 2 other people through the fence before THAT I said nope -  cyclone keeps the cars OUT

Once again the fence prevented a car from being in my living room

Back from Costco, on my first-ever run for K-Cups!  (Kirkland brand, breakfast blend, $38 for 100 -- a real bargain compared to the little 12-packs I've seen in other stores.)

That is a good price.  I usually buy mine from Amazon, but I don't get that good a price.  I would like to upgrade to a Keurig vue.

That's good, TCB. Unless you were expecting the call before your surgery some months ago.

No, my regular doctor sent a referral up there last week when I saw him.  He  can't believe that there isn't anything that can be done about the spinal stenosis in my lower spine.  He doesn't want me to spend the rest of my life taking pain pills.  I agree with that, but at some point you have to say "No" to anymore surgeries.  I will go up there, see what they have to say, and then I will have to decide my future.

It's not a hard and fast recipe -  it varies depending on how much ham and noodles you have available -  I night use  1 1/4 - 1 1/2 quarts of sour cream for that size
