Well, you've read the notes, the notes resolved, and now it is time for you to post until the resolving cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ANTEPENULTIMATE!
-
Today will be a day of nothing for me to do. I'm going to turn off my phone and sleep as long as I want...even my cat won't get me out of bed until I'm darned good and ready. I might go see a movie later in the afternoon (or not) but I have no plans at all. :D
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning to all
-
what to do what to do
-
Saturday morning greetings! My winter's nap wasn't as long as I'd have liked, but that's not unusual. It's still snowing and I'm glad we don't have to go anywhere today.
-
Yes the snow has stopped here - but we got an additional 3 inches here and almost 6 more inches in parts of Indy. I am scheduled to work today, but I do not drive in snow.....so I shall have to wait to hear from my sister what will be done.
-
Well, DR JRand, it's encouraging to hear that the snow has stopped where you are!
-
Yes DR GINNY although more is expected throughout the day.
-
Oatmeal, banana, pecans and cinnamon and coffee.
-
No snow here though they say we are supposed to get some. I'll go to the store at some point today and get a few things now that we are back in the city and settled in.
I have to go back to work on Wednesday (as do many others, I assume).
That's all for now.
-
I did many things that were fun this year, but I think my favorite was being part of Airport Appreciation Days....and taking part in an Old Time Radio show.
-
Opening late today because of the weather.....so we shall see.
-
Good morning.
TOD: My favorite thing I got done this year was hiring a handyman while my DH was visiting his mother to do the three top items on the honeydo list.
-
Good morning, all.
Got an extra hour or more of sleep than usual, which is very good thing.
-
Good morning!
-
DRs Jrand62 and Ginny, on the radar last night it looked like y'all got a repeat of the previous storm that moved across the Midwest. The ol' one-two.
And likewise, we're supposed to get it again. The only good thing is that it's Saturday and no one has to come or go today so there's no great urgency in getting the driveway cleared...AND it's supposed to be "just snow", not a hideous wet mix that's hard to clear.
-
I RESOLVE, TOO, damn it to hell. It's essential. I have been shocked, shocked, at my eating behavior this month. While it actually might not have been worse than usual for December, I didn't exactly begin the month from a lean and mean starting point, and I feel like a hippopotamus.
-
I usually like to think I have better control than most when it comes to compulsive eating. But I really don't, and the Thanksgiving-to-New-Year's stretch is deadly. You start, and you can't stop.
What I need to commit to is which kind of dieting I'm going to tackle this time. I'm one who does fabulously on an Atkins low-carb diet, but what I really want to do this time is just cut down...on EVERYTHING. Certainly carbs, which go right to the ol' waistline on the likes of me. But...everything. I overeat and I binge eat, and I always think "I'll start tomorrow". Well, tomorrow is here, baby.
And of course one must exercise. That needs to be kickstarted into high gear.
-

How well do they clear the roads where you are? I think this makes a big difference.
They are very good about clearing the roads here. And the day after a storm you almost wouldn't even know it from the roads. Although I am lucky. Downtown I"m sure the roads (especially residential) are probably terrible. People park on the streets overnight and it's a nightmare to clean.
-
I am going to watch DAMAGES S4 Ep 3.
-
We are supposed to get more snow here. Maybe 5 cms.
-
Good morning, all.
I can add my voice to the extravagant eaters' chorus, and I'm afraid it will continue today, as friends and I are having dinner at one of my favorite places in Fredericksburg, the Nest. It's an old home that has been converted into an excellent restaurant with some particularly wonderful house-made ice creams for dessert. I'm not abstaining tonight, but I'll try not to overdo, either.
-
TOD:
The publication of the book continues to be the highlight among highlights, with the trip to Italy and landing my new job also up there. Cancer surgery, I could have done without; but the positive results from that also make it a part of the list.
-
And the word of the day is: ANTEPENULTIMATE!
I'm not speaking to Auntie Penultimate. She didn't leave me no money when she died.

A horrible old woman! She deserved her fate.
-
Good Morning. Good Mornig. Sugar and I slept in today-- heaven!
-
I would like to sleep in one day. The rooster, aka J.B., doesn't allow such frivolity.
-
Two!
-
Good morning
-
I saw "Les Miserables" again last night, and I'll probably see it again. One thing that was interesting is that I saw it at a different theatre and this time they had the sound turned way up, and it made a huge difference i the experience. I was a blubbering fool at the end and was still shaking when I left the theatre.
-
TOD:
Getting back into a classroom.
I taught a 1-day class ("Creating Effective Character") for the Texas Writer's League at St. Edwards University.
-
I also enjoyed appearing at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas and doing the panels and roundtable discussions at the Austin Film Festival
-
I'm up and brrrrrrr. I was awakened twenty minutes before the alarm went off by loud thunder. It's now actually raining rather than drizzling.
-
Save some of that rain for us! This week's was disappointing.
-
And the word of the day is: ANTEPENULTIMATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: THE SECOND TIME AROUND
-
Good morning, all! It'sactually afternoon. I could not drag my tired butt out of bed this morning; I don't feel sick, just fatigued, completely wrung out. I weighed the pros and cons of staying in bed and ifnoring Saturday, then decided I would bathe and dress and move cautiously today. I have a bit of work here on Jerome Moross' BIG COUNTRY scores for his daughter, so I may send her an invoice later for the work so far.
I'm also thinking about cooking, so there may be a trip to market. I see we're getting some actual snoe, but I don't think it's sticking.
Best thing in 2012: releasing three CDs and getting fantastic reviews for two of them and mixed thoughts on the third.
-
I might have glossed over something, so, apologies just in case: What is it you're doing with the BIG COUNTRY score?
-
Many thanks to you guys for your thoughts on the new video!
-
Jrand - sorry to hear that terrible news.
-
I might have glossed over something, so, apologies just in case: What is it you're doing with the BIG COUNTRY score?
Around 2001, when I worked on a recording of Moross' songs, Imade a comment to his daughter Susanna that there were several errors in the computer engraving of THE GOLDEN APLE, so she asked me to edit a new vocal score, whch Alfred publishes. Since then, I've been her editor for all new engravngs fof Moross' music. I just finished a new vocal score and 2-piano arrangement of BALLET BALLADS (1949) and the first proof of his wonderful Civil War musical, GENTLEMEN BE SEATED. I'vealso worked on the film scores for HUCKLEBERRY FINN (great score!) and some film whose title I've forgotten about reefs and sharks (not WEST SIDE STORY).
I'm currently working on the 5-movement suite from THE BIG COUNTRY. I've proofed nad corrected the first two movements, Main Title and Waltz, and I'm waiting for more from the copyist, who's waiting on the edits for the first two movements from me.
-
THE SHARKFIGHTERS! I've got the score for THE PROUD REBEL somewhere here.
-
I have discovered that no matter how many times I press the "ON" button on the wireless phone it will NOT turn on the TV
-
I must go and return a gift I bought Vixdad for Christmas - he had mentioned he would liek a Keurig single for the office before Thanksgiving but apparently changed his mind in the intervening month - oh well
-
It is cold and raining outside

First, getting my Mom through another two bouts of health episodes. (She is doing terrific now, BTW.)
Second, updating my programming skills at work by immersing myself into a new platform and becoming fairly proficient with it.
Third, finially clearing out my basement of a lot of crap that had been stowed down there over the years.

I, too, need to lose 20 lbs

For all the fuss that had been made all week about the forecasted snow today, all we got was a dusting. Though it was coming down pretty hard at one point, it soon faded to nothing.

Thanks, DR Vixmom!
-
We keep hearing that a major storm is expected here - I should really go out before it hits
-
I've been spending this afternoon doing some minor cleaning up and putting away of some clutter that accumulated during the past month. I found a bag of Christmas candy that I forgot to put out on Christmas Day which I think I'll pack up and bring to a New Year's Eve party. I might head out and look for a new pair of walking shoes and then maybe a movie.
-
I have no plans to start eating sensibly again until after New Year's Day.

Be careful out there, DR Vixmom!

alrighty then

I have no plans to start eating sensibly again until after New Year's Day.
I resemble that remark

I GO! I GO!!

I posted this on Facebook as I refused to post what I thought about the "Les Miserables" movie as I didn't want to see the responses to why I'm WRONG in feeling as I did.
So, DR's, I propose these questions to you:
1. What stage to screen adaptation of a musical do you think has been most successful? And I don't mean financially, just the adaptation itself.
2. What non-musical movie that has been adapted for the stage as a musical has been the most successful with the adaptation? (not financially)
3. What MOVIE-MUSICAL that has had a stage adaptation has been successful?
-

The theater where I saw it had the sound turned down way too low. If I go again I'm going to say something

Wow, best thing this year is kind of difficult. Not because it was a bad year, but because there wasn't just one good thing. I think a string of really good results for clients throughout the year may be what was best. Not only did it help my clients, but it gave me a lot of confidence.

I like DR Elmore's answers!
-
Yes, I'll go with Elmore's answers for the first two - haven't seen Once yet.
-
Same here: MUSIC MAN, PROMISES PROMISES, and haven't seen ONCE.
-
I'll go with elmore's choices - but haven't seen Once.

Page three? Three pages?

I'll go with elmore's choices.

Waiting for the helper so I can then settle down and watch some damn movies. I'll start with that new Clint movie Trouble with the Curve.

I'm enjoying the best things of the year stories.
-
I agree with Elmore's choices, also. But I haven't seen "Once"
-
Look what we saw this morning!!!

"The Pileated Woodpecker is one of the biggest, most striking forest birds on the continent. It’s nearly the size of a crow, black with bold white stripes down the neck and a flaming-red crest. Look (and listen) for Pileated Woodpeckers whacking at dead trees and fallen logs in search of their main prey, carpenter ants, leaving unique rectangular holes in the wood. The nest holes these birds make offer crucial shelter to many species including swifts, owls, ducks, bats, and pine martens."

We needed the telescope to get this view so the photo is off of the internet.
-
I finally got round to watching "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" from the Universal Monsters Blu-ray set. Somehow I'd never seen the film before. Why it's considered a classic I don't know. It's incredibly cheesy. I like the way Julia Adams' main activity seemed to be changing into a new outfit several times a day, regardless of the perilous circumstances the group were in!

Wow, that's a real treat, DR Jane!
-
Wow, Jane!
I saw one of those when I was visiting my in-laws in Indiana.
-
DR's Ginny & Laura, WOW for sure. Keith is just thrilled. It was the bird on his most want to see list. Seeing it today kind of fits the TOD.
-
Really fun was when it would look directly at us.
-
Landscaping the yard, seeing the dipper & now the woodpecker, definitely exciting highlights of the year.
I mustn't forget the beginning of the year. Riding a water speed bike, or whatever it is called, in incredibly beautiful Moorea was a lifetime experience. Included in this was the friendly sting ray that snuggled round & round our legs for us to pet during a short stop at shore to meet him.
-
Very few events in my life have filled me with the joy I felt while watching Bryan become a doctor. What a joyous day that was.

I didn't get out of bed until 1:15 pm or so. I've fed myself and am watching TV. I'm going to go back upstairs to my bedroom watch some TV up there.

TOD - 2012 was less exciting for us than 2011. Hard to top Rob & Mary Linda's wedding and my first trip to Europe. This year has been more of a reality check, as I've dealt with my Mom's decline and we did the glamorous home improvement of installing a new furnace/AC. The new year holds some promise with our trip to England on the 2nd.
Highlights of 2012 were our trip to New York and Washington, seeing DN/G Lauren become certified as an athletic trainer, my sister's 50th wedding anniversary, and the birth of our great-niece Rachel.

We usually have Acorn Woodpeckers in the yard.

I think SOUND OF MUSIC has too many song reassignments and song omissions to be a god adaptation of the stage shw; I'd put WEST SIDE STORY over it. I saw the national tour of THE SOUNDOF MUSIC and I much prefer the shpw to the film.
I'd agree with DR George about 1776. I can't believe I forgot it.

We used to get these downy woodpeckers before we took down the two old dead maples

Hello, everyone.
Add me to the list of those who slept in this morning. I've slept until 9 several times this past week--most unusual. I think that means my neighbors have been QUIET!
-
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd go with elmore's choices, although I haven't seen Once.
-
Finished one motion picture and have begun another. This is just the kind of day I needed.
-
I began a soup diet the week before Christmas. I discovered these Dr McDougall soups at Whole Foods Market. I'd never heard of them before and had WF carried them I know I would have seen them. They're really good! So I stocked up and now I have vegetable soup for at least one meal each day. Yummy, easy, nutritious, and low in fat and carbs. I love soup, so this really works for me. No weight loss yet, but I wasn't expecting any so soon. I'm eating out less, too, so I'm saving $$$.

Elmore, I hope you know how impressed I am by the incredible work you do for the preservation of the Arts.
Well, thank you, DR TCB! I just think of what I do as work I am fortunate to like. I've been really lucky in that since arriving in New York, I've pretty much had jobs I've liked to do. I can't imagine having a job you don't like and endure for the retiremenr.
-
I posted this on Facebook as I refused to post what I thought about the "Les Miserables" movie as I didn't want to see the responses to why I'm WRONG in feeling as I did.
I am afraid I don't have the musical knowledge to respond to those questions.

TOD:
First, getting my Mom through another two bouts of health episodes. (She is doing terrific now, BTW.)
Second, updating my programming skills at work by immersing myself into a new platform and becoming fairly proficient with it.
Third, finially clearing out my basement of a lot of crap that had been stowed down there over the years.
I am so glad to hear your Mom is doing well, Dan!
Me, too.

Five!

Sadly many people don't enjoy the work they do. You have been very lucky indeed.

Waiting for the helper so I can then settle down and watch some damn movies. I'll start with that new Clint movie Trouble with the Curve.
Is that the one where he talks to a chair?

The publication of the book continues to be the highlight among highlights, with the trip to Italy and landing my new job also up there. Cancer surgery, I could have done without; but the positive results from that also make it a part of the list.
You were very lucky with the positive results.
VIBES THEY REMAIN POSITIVE!!!!
Thank you, Jane.

I was lucky at the pool today. As I walked up the guy in the single lane got out. Later I was extremely grateful as the other two lanes got a bit crazy with strong & fast swimmers. On woman walked up, looked at her options and then asked me if I knew when I was getting out. Since I had an exact time she decided to do exercises on the other side of the pool even though I would be 25 minutes.
After about 15 minutes I got her attention for her to go into the lane next to me as it had eased up. She swam there keeping a close eye on me and moved over a couple of minutes before I got out.
I had a a wonderful swim today and am grateful how much stronger I am than even a year ago.

I had lunch with my high school World Lit teacher. He's 85 and no longer remembers any of us personally, but he is still sharp otherwise and a very kind man. It was a real joy to see him again. He was a great teacher.
That's wonderful of you to get together with him.

Are you sure it was a male stingray. We were told that only the females (the larger of the two) will interact with humans. When we swam with the stingrays, the males stayed on the bottom and wouldn't come near us.
-
Thank you DR John G. Several years ago I thought I would never be able to swim. Then I thought I would never be able to swim rotating my arm over my head and back into the water. I still remember when I wasn't permitted to swim in the lap lanes.

I'm not sure & don't remember which they told us this was. I'll ask Keith if he remembers. This sting ray listened for the sound of the motors and first headed to the guide for the treats the guide held. We didn't have treats to hand out and it was still affectionate with us. I will say Keith & I watched the tail very carefully. Amazing was how soft the body was.

2. Nine from 8 1/2. (What would you consider On the 20th Century since it was staged more as if it were based on the film than on the play?)
3. 42nd Street

Beautiful birdies, Jane.

Fredericksburg and the Hill Country were fun, though on the cold side. We went to a bourbon distillery, then on to a genuine five-and-dime, followed by a trip to a wine bar and then dinner. Fun.

Yes. The tour cost $10, but the samples were free. I like the way they do business. They also had a fire pit by the waiting area and had it stocked with all the makings of s'mores. Plus, wine from the nearby wineries and beer from the nearby brewery. All that was free, though there was an honor box.

When they signaled the stingrays, there had to be, at least, 30 of them show up. They gave us treats and we were allowed to let them eat off of our hands. I literally got a "hickey" on the palm of my hand from the suction.

John, during the Alamo Bowl today, they showed a lot of film of the River Walk. It looks really beautiful.
I think that was a good reason to leave town, especially with a Texas team playing. But, yes, the River Walk is beautiful.
I remember when I came to San Antonio for my job interview. I had a bad cold with a fever, and the interview ended up including lunch on the River Walk on the day that everyone was in town for the Alamo Bowl. It was a sea of purple and yellow. I forget the teams that played back in late 1998, but I doubt I'll ever forget the sight. I loved the River Walk instantly, even with all those thousands walking on it, and that sold me on the city, even as I was not in a right mind to concentrate on much else.
One person interviewing me wanted me to write a review of the lunch we had had as part of the test. I couldn't smell, so I couldn't taste. All I wanted to do was get to my hotel room, turn up the heat and sleep. Thankfully, they had me do something else.

I'll bet the River Walk is a nice place for a romantic moonlight strool.

I wonder if BK left to go see ONCE.

Started watching "Blue Skies" tonight. Fred Astaire is good, Bing is on valium. Not a great one, despite a lot of Irving Berlin music. But I'm tired, so the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.
Good night, all.
