Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both more and merrier, and now it is time for you to post until the merrier cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Good morning, all! On some mornings, 6:30 comes too soon, but I had another round of doozies for dreams: a nightmare set in an old house involving created humans, one of whom was not behaving well; an endless dream involving Tolstoy, Chekhov and some sexual scandal involving Vronsky and Vershinin; and life at The Drama Book Shop, inventory cards, and Shakespeare plays. I was glad gto get out of bed.
I am off to Toyland. I have to wait for a Fed Ex delivery.
While I'm there, I will go through the ROBERTA vocal score - again - because I gace a cppy to Bruce Pomahac and he sent me two pages of questions about possible wrong notes. Our proofreader missed several lyric and melodic errors, I missed some on my final edit, and I need to check Bruce'squestions aganst the original published score, the Bennett full scores, and the last edit full scores. The notes must be corrected before we print the orchestra parts. and this is why I am still frustrated over my team's inability to meet my desired March 1 deadline to finish the score.

When I get home I must.
Clean my car for a maintenance service tomorrow (I somehow think they do a better job if the car is clean, people think I'm nuts to feel that way).
Take my daily walk. (while I get ready for work).
Read the new book.
;D

tod
really have not seen a lot of films with gary cooper or patricia neal over the years.

-
Today is "Liza Doolittle Day!"
-
I tried to start a monthly, let's get together for dinner and live music, with the group I hang out with.
It was good (although no one seems to care about listening to music) the first 2 times.
Now it morphed into a Tuesday evening, no music, but I send the email info and I can't even be there.
Oh well.
I think I'm butt hurt.
Oh well.

The boyfriend is out of town during the week. Only get to see him on the weekends, and only get to do things with him on the weekends his kids are not home.
Which is a good thing. I'm starting to feel like myself again. I really missed doing the things that keep me happy. Walking, doing stuff I have not done before, listening to live music, seeing new things.
Like a lecture Wednesday night, Tearing the Fabric: Exploring and Predicting Elevated Vertebrate Road Kill from Ventura County to Louisiana to the Middle East.
How's that for my local library ;D ;D.
-
An the library music menu:
June : Ventucky String Band
July : Bill Macpherson
August : Chase Christen
September : Cowboy Surfer
On Sunday afternoons. ;D

I think I better get ready for work.

Today is shopping day......so hopefully I will find some bargains.
-
DR VIXMOM always glad to help.
I used my TAILGATER at my brother in law's outdoor memorial, and it was terrific. That's only the first time I've used it, but I am glad to have mine, as well!
-
It's Monday. Already.
-
TOD:
The Fountainhead, of course for both....
GARY COOPER:
Almost everything, but especially:
Desire
Ball of Fire
Ten North Frederick
High Noon
PATRICIA NEAL:
Hud
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Breakfast at Tiffany's
-
Good morning, all.
I, too, historically, am a wild and crazy dreamer like DR Elmore, and for a few years I kept a dream journal, taking special care to describe the extraordinary ones thoroughly enough that another person could sort of imagine them, and so that I could remember them when reading them after some time has passed. (I'd discovered when reading a few of them that even the detailed descriptions didn't bring them back for me. ME!) But that takes extraordinary time and effort and I eventually abandoned it. Still have those journals, though.
I have several major dream themes that reappear and get replayed frequently in various settings. It's a fascinating thing, really.
Now what the hell am I talking about? Where am I?
Oh! At home, following a blessedly decent sleep in my blessedly very own bed. How wonderful a thing that is.
Coffee!
-
This is a "me" day, for sure -- let no one attempt to declare otherwise -- which shall be dedicated to reading the BOOK.
-
TOD:
I think we did Cooper about a week or so ago.
Patricia Neal:
HUD
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
A FACE IN THE CROWD
THE BREAKING POINT
JOHN LOVES MARY
-
RE: THE FOUNTAINHEAD.
I recall reading that Bogart was originally set for the Cooper role.
-
Good morning.
-
TOD:
Cooper is one of my favourtie actors of all time, my fav films of his:
LIVES OF A BENGAL LANCER
DESIRE
MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN
BEAU GESTE
MEET JOHN DOE
BALL OF FIRE
THE FOUNTAINHEAD
FRIENDLY PERSUASION
Fav Patricia Neal Films:
FACE IN THE CROWD
FOUNTAINHEAD
SUBJECT WAS ROSES
I don't think Bogart was ever set for Cooper's role in FOUNTAINHEAD, but it's who Vidor wanted. I directly asked this question of Vidor once at a Q & A after a screening of DUEL IN THE SUN. He said he felt Bogart better represented the iconoclastic Howard Roark. I disagree and think he's wrong...I think Cooper perfectly represented Roark's uncompromising integrity and his quiet resolution to go his own way and take whatever work he could until he could achieve his ideals on his own terms rather than diminish them.
-
The Fed Ex has arrived, and I'vew been through all the current ROBERTA questions. More to follow from Rob Berman.
I will make no corrections until I hear from him.
-
And I can go home now. I like that.
-
And the word of the day is: MULIEBRITY!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I AM WOMAN
-
I'm back from the monthly reunion lunch so will need to sober up.
Coffee!

I sent Claire Moore (original Ellen in the helicopter show) an email in April telling her about our show and asking if she had any thoughts about the Ellen character. I wasn't sure if the email would get to her as I found the address on some website that I had never heard of. Anyway, she got it and wrote back this morning. The inner fan boy in me is excited beyond words as I've loved her music since the day I got serious about musical theatre. Of course, I've created a Claire Moore playlist to use as I pack my life away today. Such a great day already!
-
Oh, and good morning!

And just because a page shouldn't have to turn for a dance to fill your pants:

-
TOD:
"Friendly Persuasion" and "Ball of Fire' certainly are among my favorite Cooper films, along with "Meet John Doe"
Patricia Neal's films that are favorites include "The Subject Was Roses", "Hud" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
I have a great fondness for "The Fountainhead", naturally. Neal has rarely been so fiery and lusty.
-
I will return later, just want to say I had a delightful read before going to sleep last night. Thank you Bruce.
-
And I am home!
I have very little work for the week so it will be a lot of vacation time.
-
The latest Kimmel opus has arrived, suitably inscribed. Mucho Thanks, BK!
-
If someone didn't know that the Unseemly Button did anything, how would they know what the Topic of the Day would be?
-
I think one can discern the topic by visiting the board, but in this case this person has never visited the board.
-
I didn't get to sleep until two, I woke up at four, mind ablaze with thoughts, didn't fall asleep until six-thirty and am now up. So, somewhere in there I think I got five hours of sleep. And now - I'm up.
-
OMG -
How could I forget Patricia Neal in A FACE IN THE CROWD......add that to my list.
-
Slow day here at HHW.....we are going to turn on the Air Conditioning for the first time this year.
-
Adriana Hofstetter (and the gifts) have arrived! :-*
Thanks, BK!

Matthew, that is so cool!! I don't suppose you asked her about the changing of "It's Her or Me" to "Now That I've Seen Her." I always wondered about how and why it happened, and how she felt about having to redo it. I have the original CD release with "It's Her or Me." :)
-
CRAP!! I had a bait-and-switch situation with Amazon.co.uk. :P I had ordered THIS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0563504196/) 14-disc boxed set of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Complete Radio Series," BUT what they sent was THIS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009SJU1Z8/) 13-disc version. The boxed set is in a spiffy cool box and has an extra disc with an interview with Douglas Adams...AND cost me GBP 40.92 ($66.08 with shipping). Right now, there isn't a seller that can ship the 13-disc version to the US, but the cheapest available is only 17.99GBP...that's only about $27.50...which is almost half of what I was charged for it. I'd settle for a refund, but I'll wait to hear back from the seller. I just sent a not-very-polite e-mail...through Amazon.co.uk (of course).
-
I ordered the multi-disc set of "Ghost Story" from Amazon.com.
Thanks for the heads-up, Mike! 8)
-
Ugh...DR GEORGE.....I hate that!
-
And now I shall prepare to leave for Round Two of Angel Street Auditions.....
-
In an amazing coincidence, I just this very morning placed the "Ghost Story" set in my cart!
I remember hearing they'd released it, but never followed up on it and had totally forgotten about it. Shame on me.
-
"And the more the merrier says I"
-
DR Doug R, those reunion "lunches" sound like the kind of "lunches" they have on MAD MEN. :)
-
May I say I enjoyed a delightful read this morning and afternoon?
And that there's a delightful new review up on Amazon?
Well, it seems I've actually said both of those very things.
-
You'd best get that air-conditioning going, DR Jrand62.
I believe Cincinnati was to be near 90 these next couple of days. We're finally enjoying some high 70s here, and there's a LOT of moisture outside that, with the windows open, is also inside. But I don't mind. For a while. It's too early to retreat into the A/C in these here parts. I'll bring a couple of the large fans up from the basement later. This is actually my favorite kind of warm weather -- the kind you can make comfortable with a few judiciously placed fans. In fact, this was perfect reading weather this morning. Absolutely perfect.
-
You know, if I could think of one more thing to post about, it could get us off this damned page.
-
I wonder what it should be.
-
Oh well.
Three!
-
Back from a sandwich and no fries or onion rings (I have been SO good about not having fries or onion rings - it's been four months now). I decided the jog would happen this afternoon so that I could finish the liner notes before I had my meal o' the day - I did finish and sent them on their merry way, so both packages should be able to go in tomorrow for approvals.

Drats I was just going to plant some flowers but someone is mowing their lawn right near me. And I am allergic to freshly cut grass and cannot breathe out there. I wonder how long it would take for the smell to go away. I guess I'll check back in two hours.
-
IT is supposed to rain for the next three days. So probably no planting flowers and no bike rides those days. :(

She discussed that in her response. It was one of my questions to her. It was cool to hear what she had to say.
From the email:
. Poor thing! I loved playing her although the constant re-writes in our preview time was a bit of a pain as it really impacted on the character. 'It's her or me' so much more confrontational than 'Now that I've seen her'. Which lyrics did you use I wonder? Did you know that there was a different song which got thrown out during rehearsals? It was called ' What if he doesn't come back home tonight'. I loved the role and I still love the show
-
Took my Mother on a major grocery shopping trip and came home exhausted. I had some lunch and then sat and vegged in my recliner for a couple of hours. Getting ready now to go to an AAUW board meeting this evening

Package from Kritzerland!!! Book, CD's, stuff.... yay!

DR Chas I'm glad you made it home safely with all the fog.

From DR Jennifer:
You can still rate a book 3 1/2 stars on goodreads. Just include it in the text. Many many people do this (including myself). I need half stars, so I use them a lot.
LOL But then that would require me to make a comment.

From Jennifer:
I think we rate books differently. To me 3 stars is okay. 4 stars is I like it. 4.5 I like it a lot. And 5 stars is rare it means I absolutely love it/perfection. I think I have given 5 stars to maybe 5 books this year so far (out of 46 or so). I don't give 5 stars easily.
I think 3 stars is a decent rating. There are plenty of authors I gladly read again but only give a 3 star rating to. Most those books would get a 3 1/2 if there were a half star option and why I'm more bothered not having the half star in the 3 stars ratings.
4 stars is a very good rating from me, especially as I give few books 5 stars. I think I've given fewer books 5 stars this year than you have. Since 4 stars, to me, is a high recommendation I don't mind as much not having the half star.
I would say we think pretty much the same about the rating. I just think I'm less generous than you are.

When we lived in Michigan the second time we lived in a neighborhood where everyone had a lawn service. It seemed to me that we all had our lawns mowed on the same two days of the week, days which I had to cover my nose and mouth for half of my walk.
-
Keith was planning to plant the last of the petunias today. A frost, and possible snow, warning was released for tonight. Instead of planting he will be covering the ones already in the ground and bringing the rest inside.

Correction, our weather advisory is for tomorrow night, not tonight. I really can't imagine we will get snow. It is so beautiful today it is difficult to imagine a frost warning-lol

I took the day off to spend with my parents. My brother brought them to town since he had some business here. It was a lovely day
-
DR Cilla I thought you were working hard or avoiding tornadoes. I'm glad you had a fun day.
-
However I got home and turned on the weather channel because the clouds were looking dark. When I did they had live coverage of the tornado as it devastated Moore, Okla. They are saying it's worse than Joplin was. The damage is 20 mile long and 2 1/2 miles wide. Kids were in school and the school was hit. I'm just heartsick
-
Terrible news from Oklahoma.

It's hard to know what to say. It's all such cold comfort for the victims. i have mostly questions, but the news of the school is truly devastating. I hope Sioux City will be okay.

Fantastic! Thanks for posting the info, Larry! I'm downloading it here at work but I think that it'll take too long. I'm leaving early to go to rehearsal and it won't be done by the time I leave. I'll have to re-download at home tonight...hopefully, it'll still be available!

You don't have to write anything else. I know it doesn't make a difference to the rating. But a lot of people look at the reviews and ratings. So I would definitely rate it what you really think.

Well, it's early, but I must be off. I need to get something to eat, and then go to the theater to help the sound guy work on the microphones to make sure that they all work. That's something that should be dealt with before the actors get there. Wish us luck!
Be back later!

I actually don't think that we think the same about ratings. I don't think 3 stars is a good rating at all. Not in my ratings. Since you haven't done half stars I think that you like books that you rated 4 stars more than I do (my equivalent is probably 4.5 stars). Also you give books 1 and 2 stars and I don't. I research the books I read a lot. And follow a lot of the authors I read on facebook and twitter. If I'm not crazy about a book I will either stop reading it and not review it or write a detailed description of what I did and did not like but give it 3 stars.

On my bike ride even though today is a holiday they were mowing beside a portion of the bike path. I thought I was going to die. I couldn't breathe. Luckily it was only for a few minutes of my ride.
Luckily today at 6pm the smell was gone so I was able to plant. Now I am super tired.
-
Some of the books I give 2 stars to had excellent reviews-lol

I don't know why they don't have the 1/2 stars in their system. It would be much better. But I have seen tons of people put the half stars at the top of their reviews. I have been doing this for ages mostly because I need that 1/2 star!

Several children and teachers were pulled out alive. I hope there are many, many more rescued.
-
I am looking forward to tonight's DWTS. Go Kellie and Derek!
-
In Michigan, as these children were, mine were at school in the hallway waiting out a tornado warning while I practically slept through it. I could see the wind and was listening for the siren to go off. Seems it did but I couldn't here it from where I was. A high school, not ours, was hit. The only students there by then were from some sport practicing in the gym. The coach lines them up outside of the gym, which had a direct hit, and they were all fine.
-
Last night I put a hold at my eBook library. Looking at it now I am 222nd out of 225 holds on the queue. ;D
It does say there are 2 books available & my library might move faster, which likely means one of those books is solely for my library.

Sioux City is fine and far away from the really bad weather. Joplin just got a tornado warning and they just announced there are as many as 24 kids from the school in Oklahoma who died. This is just awful.
-
Horrible :'(

Le Voila!
:) Thanks
-
DR Cilla is there more news on Joplin?
-
I'm exhausted.
-
I searched news of Sioux City today & was pleased not to find any. Searching Joplin I don't even see warnings, only news about the previous tornado that hit.
-
Received in today's mail: my lovely inscribed book, my lovely autographed CD and some fun gifts!
thank you!!
-
These tornado stories are heatbeaking
-
The discussion board has been updated on the staging site - it's not current yet, in terms of the topics - it's back on May 7, but there are several fun new features on the main page. Lots of stuff to work out and as soon as the tech guy says go, I'll let vixmom and George begin testing things. Right now, only the oldest avatars are showing up, so I've alerted him to that.
-
how would we go about accessing the board for testing purposes, pray tell?
-
meatloaf
-
oven roasted taters
-
mushroom gravy
-
peas
-
and then an unexpected nap
-
DR Cilla is there more news on Joplin?
Sorry for leaving you hanging. It went south of therel. When I heard there was a warning I called mom. She said she had talked to my brother in law and Joe had just arrived at their house and they were going to seek shelter. They have a tornado room built into their basement so as long as they know and have time to get there, they will always be ok
-
DR Jane when I'm curious about what's up with weather in a town, I usually do a Google search for a tv station for that town and then click on weather. If there's anything going on they will have it.

It is tragic news about Moore, Oklahoma.
-
Almost the identical track as the previous tornado back in 1999.
-
The previous tornado in Moore had the highest winds ever recorded on earth. 300 mph.
-
50 people confirmed dead in Moore; 20 of them children.
-
They said on the news that there are another 50 people dead, but that city officials don't wish to confirm those deaths yet
-
Today was my final P.T appointment. She said that she couldn't do anything more for me.
-
I wanted to point out to her that I still can't walk.
-
However, she has already made it clear that she doesn't believe I will ever walk again.
-
That leaves me feeling very depressed.
-
In fact, that is the first time I have felt depressed since the cruise.
-
I wish I had a new book to read!
-
Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
-
How could I forget THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL?
-
G'night!
