Well, you've read the notes, the notes had stats, stats had the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - the cows have had both the stats and the notes and now they're makin' hay.
-
And the word of the day is: HOBBLEDEHOY!
-
first after BK
this week and last have been absolutely ridiculous workwise and that's all I have to say about hat
-
It Might Be Fun was

Some may do things according to Hoyle, I do things according to HOBBLEDEHOY

why am I up? 4 hours sleep is not going to carry me through the day ahead

I thoroughly enjoyed the audio clip in today's notes. Diana did a lovely job with it.

I have to work longer today, but then I shall be off for three and a half lovely days!

I have to work longer today, but then I shall be off for three and a half lovely days!
wish I could say that... ah well vacation is coming...
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I will be heading out to Long Island today after work.
We will be there for the weekend.
It's supposed to be hot and muggy most of the time. I plan on spending as much of it inside as I can. I wish Anthony's parents still had their pool. Oh, well. I'll live.

Took delivery of a Blu-ray import today (US to UK) and got caught for Customs charges, which seems to happen more frequently nowadays. Charges are based not just on the cost of the item but also on the amount of international postage. International postal charges from the US are high enough but having a Customs charge of about $18 on top of everything else makes it prohibitively expensive to import many DVDs/CDs etc from the US to the UK.

Good morning, all.
More vibes and xylophones for BK.
Allergies are acting up this morning. May have to stop for stronger meds at the office pharmacy.
-
Yes, indeed - ~ ~ ~ CONTINUED WELL-BEING VIBES ~ ~ ~ for bk and anyone else that needs them!

Cute song.

-
Good morning everyone.
It's hot and muggy here also.
Off to work, off for the 4th of July, not off on Friday. Oh well.
;)
-
Mega vibes.
Note to self: get more sleep.
Note to self: eat less.
Note to self: push em pull em parade at 10am, street faire at 11am, fireworks on the football field.
Mega vibes everyone.
:)
-
Good morning.

Good morning, all! I stayed up way too late last night reading and so I slept in. I have absolutely no plans today until 6:30pm, when I meet goddaughter Charlotte to see the new film of Much Ado About Nothing.
I have no plans for tomorrow, and I may see a lot of movies.

That London skyline photo is incredible, DR SingSing, but it got promptly overshadowed by DR Doug R's horror story about the customs charges. HOLY MOLEY. What a difference, right there, between what we can get away with on either side of the water. From what I hear, Canadians are also hit with charges for buying from the US that can only be described as punitive.
-
Shocking information from DR DOUG R. I have only been caught in the web once....had to pay a lot of $$ for something that came from somewhere.....I don't even remember the details. I don't bid on or buy items for myself from outside the U.S. Now and then I get rings or jewelry for the store from China....it takes a LONG time to arrive, but there are usually no extra charges on them.
-
The set is done. So I will take a few more photos tonight. Our costumes should be arriving today or tomorrow....and dress rehearsal is Friday night.
It is a good play, and I have four GOOD actors out of FIVE.
-
Very nice song in the notes. I like to hear Diana Canova sing.....and I certainly am still a fan of her mother, Judy Canova.

My question for ASK BK day....since we can also ask other Dear Reader's.....where were you born.....and where do you live now....and how many states have you lived in in between?

Interesting posts from the Dear Readers....we are certainly gadabouts!
Most interesting interview from 1967 featuring Betty and Allen who were starring in GUYS & DOLLS at Atlanta Theater Under (of) the Stars.

Oh I forgot
Good afternoon to all
-
I just happen to be listening to a recording of GIRL CRAZY that has some Elmore credits on it.
Ooooh . . . the dish there! Some people on that recording were, and may still be for all I know, swine, and one singer was really, really, really dumb.
I got completely screwed on my editorial credit . . . and then sacked from the project in a Big Power Play. The events of 1990 still work my last nerve.
That said, there are many good things about that recording. I loved Frank Gorshin.

Is Stamford close to you? You know, you could be living right next door, or just down the street, from some of the stars of classic movies like SATAN IN HIGH HEELS or CURSE OF THE LIVING CORPSE!

I'm 40-45 minutes north of Stamford. And I'm aware of the fact that there are plenty of such people around this area, even up here in my neck of the woods. Wish I could say I knew them!
-
I am even closer to Stamford, CT, DR MBarnum - about 10 minutes. And to think, I never knew how close I am to such famed folk! 8)

I saw it in House Beautiful several months ago.
It is just elegant and beautiful.
After we have completed our painting projects, I'll try to post the pictures. However, first I will have to learn how. ( AKA Adriana)

DR BK
What is your favorite TV show of all time. what was it like working with Donny And Marie?
-
DR BK,
How old is your daughter, and what is her name?
-
Goodbye for now!
-
Another question for Bk:
Do you like magazines, and if so, what are you favorite ones?
I used to subscribe to tons of magazines in the early 70s - Time, Newsweek, the New Yorker, New York - and bought regularly TV Guide, After Dark, and a bunch of film magazines every month, including Sight and Sound, Films in Review, Films and Filming and several really esoteric ones. After about 1984 I was done with all of them.
-
DR BK,
How old is your daughter, and what is her name?
Daughter is now forty-three and her name is Jennifer.
-
DR JRands' Wednesday question:
Born in: Medford, Oregon
Now living: Salem, Oregon (300 miles north of Medford)
Lived always in Oregon.
Now tell us how many times the state has asked you to move to another.

It's a LOT of mileage!

Had a fairly horrible night trying to sleep - I think it was around three again. I was up at around nine-thirty but stayed in bed until the doorbell rang an hour later. My voice is pretty trashed this morning but most of the scratchy throat is gone and replaced by a phlegmy throat. I hate this stuff and can only hope that I have a voice for Sunday's show. I'll probably have to talk today at rehearsal otherwise I'll be quiet until the stumble-through on Saturday and hope for the best.
-
The postman just brought me a big check, so I am off to the bank.

DR RLP my friend or his father may have been at Fort Ben around the time you were...or maybe not. Charles Goad.....
-
A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father were in a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.
The boy asked, 'What is this Father?'
The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, 'Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is.'
While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially.
They continued to watch until it reached the last number… and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.
Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out.
The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son.....
'Go get your Mother'
-
HA!

A lady was traveling on a train with her baby.
The man sitting next to her happened to glance at the baby when the woman removed the blanket. He said: "Whew! That's an ugly baby. I've never seen a baby that ugly. That is the HOMELIEST baby I have ever seen in my life!"
The woman called the conductor who came rushing down the aisle. The woman said: "This man insulted me. I didn't pay good money to ride this train and be insulted."
The conductor said: "We want our customers to have a good time on our trains. If you follow me, I will find you seat in another car. We will also give you a complimentary dinner....and perhaps I can find a banana for your monkey."
-
DR George do you like UNDER THE DOME? I'm not sure how much longer we will continue watching it.

Took delivery of a Blu-ray import today (US to UK) and got caught for Customs charges, which seems to happen more frequently nowadays. International postal charges from the US are high enough but having a Customs charge of about $18 on top of everything else makes it prohibitively expensive to import many DVDs/CDs etc from the US to the UK.
That is high!
One Mother's Day my mother was visiting family on the Isle of Man and I sent her a little mother's day necklace. I made the mistake of insuring it. She said the tax was more than the necklace & postage combined.

I certainly don't love it, but I liked this last episode a little more than the first episode. I'll watch it for a while and probably end up seeing the whole thing, since it's a limited series.

This is so funny. I have done so many shows with Chuck. He is a great guy. He does theatre but also went to school to be a chef and he works at the local Second Helpings - an organization that feeds homeless people with leftover food from the kitchens of local restaurants and not prepared food - but donations.....like a food pantry.

To answer JRand's question:
Born in Louisville, Ky. Lived in Lexington, Ky.; Cincinnati; Middletown, Ohio; Catskill, N.Y.; Sarasota, Fla.; Port Charlotte, Fla. and, now, San Antonio.

Amazed at all the places our DRs have lived!

I let my subscription to FILMFARE lapse, as they seemed to interview the same Bollywood celebrities over and over again. I do miss reading it and knowing about all of the upcoming releases, however, so I might have to resubscribe at some future point...even though it is rather pricey!

Good morning everyone.
It's hot and muggy here also.
Off to work, off for the 4th of July, not off on Friday. Oh well.

It isn't easy to change a holiday with 4th in the name to the 5th for a four day weekend.

Well I think we have our color for our accent wall in the kitchen. Segovia Red, by Benjamin Moore.
I saw it in House Beautiful several months ago.
It is just elegant and beautiful.
After we have completed our painting projects, I'll try to post the pictures. However, first I will have to learn how. ( AKA Adriana)
I looked the color up and you describe it very well. I have found it best to paint a strip to see if I like it, or to paint a very large sheet of paper and tape that to the wall ;)
-
I'm off to meet Charlotte for the movie.
-
DR George do you like UNDER THE DOME? I'm not sure how much longer we will continue watching it.
I certainly don't love it, but I liked this last episode a little more than the first episode. I'll watch it for a while and probably end up seeing the whole thing, since it's a limited series.
;)
Well, since it is a limited series maybe we will stick with it. I hope limited means they wrap up the story.

That is high!
One Mother's Day my mother was visiting family on the Isle of Man and I sent her a little mother's day necklace. I made the mistake of insuring it. She said the tax was more than the necklace & postage combined.
Yikes and Yikes! :o I've never had to pay a Customs charge from anywhere...yet.
Fortunately Craig didn't when he lived in Romania. He did have to open everything at the post office so he would give the person a bag of candy or one of the treats we sent in our boxes of goodies.

I seem to be making a meal of Trader Joe's Soy & Flaxseed Tortilla Chips.
-
Do you remember your address in the LA burbs?
Yes - my parents made me memorize it in case we were ever separated. :)
5445 Eau Claire Drive
Palos Verdes Estates (now, I believe, Rancho Palos Verdes).
If we had still been living there when I went to high school, Tracy Austin would have been a classmate.

We're starting off our patriotic fervor a little early here at HHW!

Oh my!

Oh, yeah, and the Sondheim Review.
It pairs well with a Riesling. :)
-
My first ever Trader Joe's (ca-1983) was just down the hill from P.V., in the "Hollywood Riviera". I checked when out there last fall, and that store is alive and well.

When as a wee thing I made paper dolls (a la Bugs Bunny), they weren't quite this elaborate...
This is nice.

Today's birthday treat was pancakes. First food she has CHEWED in ten days.
:)

Where did you live in Connecticut, DR Jane?
Speaking of which - anyone planning on watching 1776 tomorrow?

From the sound of it, those must have been some severely impacted wisdom teeth requiring some, er, rough surgery! I'll bet she's glad to be where she is now!
-
Amazed at all the places our DRs have lived!
I think I needed to get around more!
There are also advantages to not having moved around.
-
And continued ~ ~ ~ vibes (etc.) ~ ~ ~ that bk does not get ANY WORSE!
DITTO!
-
Oh my!
Was that for Lee Majors? ;D
-
I'm off to meet Charlotte for the movie.
I'm sure you will enjoy your time with Charlotte, hope the movie is good.

1776 and The Music Man are de rigueur on the 4th around these here parts, DR singdaw. (I better watch my phraseology.)

I think Craig remembers the address for every house we lived in. I'm lucky to remember all the street names.
-
I am embarrassed to admit this, especially here, but.... here goes:
Although I have been in The Music Man on stage, I have never seen the movie.
Perhaps I should remedy this tomorrow. :P
-
Where did you live in Connecticut, DR Jane?
17 Deepwood Court, Woodbridge. It wasn't too far from New Haven.
Nice was that Keith also worked in Woodbridge and often he would call and say come meet me for lunch.
-
Oh my!
Was that for Lee Majors? ;D
LOL It was for all of it.

That's nice, DR Jane. There's some parts of New Haven that aren't so great, as I'm sure you know. But the Yale campus is beautiful, of course, and there's that amazing selection of world cuisine restaurants. I love this area for its four distinct seasons.
-
LOL It was for all of it.
I thought for sure someone was going into the drink at the end! :)

I just have very strange gaps in my cultural literacy. There's really no logical explanation.
But, at least I have something to look forward to! :)

We had season tickets to the Shubert Theater and saw some wonderful shows. My favorite, that I saw with the boys since Keith was out of the country, was Tommy Tune in "Bye Bye Birdie".
Yes, the restaurants were wonderful as were the Pizza places. There was also an old fashioned soda counter with the best Vanilla Malt. In fact it is the only vanilla malt I have ever liked. :)
We didn't go very often and we were very careful what areas we were in.

Good evening!

I've lived in the states of New York and Virginia

Where?? Where was the vanilla malt?? :)
-
Why didn't I take off Friday? Well, maybe because I was off for most of June.
-
Where?? Where was the vanilla malt??
Probably right next to the Patty Melt. :)
-
What do your paper dolls look like now?
Alas, DR Ron Pulliam, I haven't made much progress in lo these many years...

My question for ASK BK day....since we can also ask other Dear Reader's.....where were you born.....and where do you live now....and how many states have you lived in in between?
Mine is easy: Indiana.
I was born in Ft. Rucker, Alabama (my dad was in the army...I have no familial or emotional ties to the south, whatsoever). We lived there for about a year, and then we lived in Georgia; California; San Antonio, Texas and then Kaiserslautern, Germany by the time I was four years old. While we lived there, I went to kindergarten and first grade, and then we moved to Ft. Carson, Colorado. We lived there until the beginning of fifth grade (the only time I moved during a school year), when we moved here to Lacey (just north of Olympia), Washington, when my dad retired from the army. My parents still live in the house that they bought in 1976, when I was 10 years old.
While here in Washington, I've lived in Lacey (with my family), Bellingham (while going to Western Washington University), Tumwater (with a roommate), Lacey (on my own in an apartment), Tumwater (with my sister and niece in their house), an apartment on the west side of Olympia. My sister had a new house built and I rented her older house in Tumwater with a roommate. He got married (but I kept his cat...his girlfriend then fiancée then wife then ex-wife was allergic) and then I bought my condo in Tumwater, whence I shall never move again. ;D
So, to tally it all up: six states and two countries.
-

LOL. In a place downtown that had been there forever. I'm sorry I don't remember the name. I'll see if googling helps.
-
I'm not feeling 100% that's for sure. Maybe tomorrow. Throat isn't really scratchy so much - but really annoying.
~~~Continued Throat-Get-Better Vibes for BK!!~~~
And I currently subscribe to Food & Wine and Bon Appetit, though one of those could be running out soon. And I'm in no rush to re-up.
Oh, yeah, and the Sondheim Review.
I am a charter subscriber to The Sondheim Review! I've also subscribed to TV Guide, Playbill Magazine and Show Music Magazine. That's all that I can remember.
Speaking of which - anyone planning on watching 1776 tomorrow?
If I can find my DVD, I am! My family doesn't like the laserdisc version...it's too long. Well, :P to them, I say!
;)
-
For us, we always rotate between 1776 one year and Independence Day the next.
-
Googling unfortunately didn't help. I hope the place is still there. It was so long ago it could be anything now.
-
Probably right next to the Patty Melt. :)
We might have gotten fries to go with it but never a Patty Melt ;)
-
Googling unfortunately didn't help. I hope the place is still there. It was so long ago it could be anything now.
I don't suppose it could have been the somewhat historic "original hamburger" place, Louis' Lunch?
-
No. It had a very old, old fashioned soda fountain counter.
-
My brain keeps telling me there was a drug store on one side of the shop.
-
I remember this place had a history so I must be doing something wrong that I can't find it.
-
If it was a drugstore or five and dime with lunch counter, it is, sadly, probably history. There are so few, if any of those, left.
-
Probably but it was also a busy lunch place so I would expect a name change or renovation while leaving the counter intact.
I give up.
-
Someone asked the other day about my nephew. He's going to be on American Ninja Warrior Sunday night on the G4 cable channel and then on NBC on Monday.
-
Thanks DR Kevin. I'll see if I get the station. I have a feeling I don't.
-
Thanks DR Kevin. I'll see if I get the station. I have a feeling I don't.
I think I might. Let me check.
-
I do...it's on channels 136 for standard-def and 693 for hi-def.
Had maybe the best second rehearsal we've ever had - I only had to give tiny little notes but mostly I just sat and enjoyed. And Robert Yacko is a hero - came in knowing the two songs' music and he's already singing them wonderfully. I don't know many people who could do that.
-
Great news Bruce!
You are too kind, sir. Just doing my job. If you're gonna jump in, jump in ahead of the curve, I say. :)
Great songs, too. Thank you!
Time to study now.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
I just got home from my niece's (7) first ever swim meet.
We had no idea what to expect. She is an excellent swimmer (at a level with a lot of 10-11 year olds) but she has never raced.
Her first race was front crawl. They put her in the third or fourth heat. The best swimmers are in the first heat of 6. And then they randomly (?) put the other kids. There are like 50 kids swimming from our pool in the 8 and under category. So it is crazy. But she won her heat. I was so teary.
Then she was in the relay. But they put her with a group of pretty slow swimmers. Their team came 4th/6 in their heat.
For backstroke they put her in the first heat with the fastest swimmers. She is very strong in backstroke. But has never raced or even tried to go fast. So we really had no idea what to expect. She finished 5th out of 6. But those were the 5 strongest backstrokers. So it was quite impressive.
She seemed quite happy. She should get her ribbons tomorrow.
-
And I am home. The new film of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is quite delightful; I'm not sure that it all works, given some of the artificiality of Shakespeare's plotting, but when it's cooking, it's sheer delight. There are bits where I thought, hmm . . . La Dolce Vita or The Sopranos, Dogberry's watch transformed well to a neighborhood security unit, and Leonato's estate nicely became a Hollywood estate.
In some ways, the play is set better in a past time period; Claudio's jealousy and potential spouse abuse as well as the humiliation of Hero are too un-PC and ugly for a contemporary romantic comedy. I think the Joseph Papp production with Sam Waterston set in 1912 works better there, and April Shawhan's devastation as the wronged Hero moves me more than the situation here. I thought that Whedon let the melancholy moment of Don Pedro's proposal to Beatrice go by too quickly, but perhaps Whedon and reed Diamond didn't believe that Don Pedro was serious. I do.
Still, there was much to like and much of it is funny and speedily played like a good screwball comedy. I liked the hip Hollywood cast, particularly Clark Gregg as Leonato and Nathan Fillion as the nincompoop Dogberry. I liked Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof, two actors I would swear I've never seen before, quite a lot as Beatrice and Benedick, and I think the film's a good transformation of one of my favorite Shakespeare plays.
This is the cover of the auction catalogue. It is 396 pages.
Maybe BK will want to look over the overpriced (?) 1st editions.
I had a nice day thank you. On Wednesday mornings I usually hike with a group. Today we went up to Mt. Ashland to hike where is was somewhat cooler. We didn't do my favorite part of the trail but it was still lovely and there were lots of wildflowers.
Until later!
That reminds me. On Yesterday's Topic:
Seattle, WA
Tacoma, WA
Four states - Washington, Oregon, California, and New Jersey
-
Congratulations on the good rehearsal, BK.
-
Thanks, Elmore, for the notes on Much Ado. Did you see the other modern day version that the BBC filmed a few years back? It had Damien Lewis back before not too many people knew who he was. I loved that version and am looking forward to seeing this one. Maybe this weekend.
-
I am embarrassed to admit this, especially here, but.... here goes:
I could go for an old-fashioned ice cream soda right now. Cherry, with vanilla ice cream.
Jennifer, great story about your niece.
-
Eight?
-
Yup.
-
Well, I'm off to bed. Have to get up way too early, go out and help a number of people set up communion for the National Youth Gathering of the LCMS. We've got 30,000 Lutheran kids from across the country in town this week. They've been doing projects at various churches and throughout the community, etc.
So, good night, all.
-
I normally get those auction catalogues in the mail so I'm sure it will be here very soon.
-
Did a three-mile jog, went to Gelson's and got some melon balls and some diet hot dogs and buns for tomorrow. Throat is much less scratchy now, but chest feels a bit heavy and I'm clearing my throat too much - will try to stop doing that, but I just know if I can get ten to twelve hours of great sleep that will be the most helpful thing of all.
-
-
Had a fairly horrible night trying to sleep - I think it was around three again. I was up at around nine-thirty but stayed in bed until the doorbell rang an hour later. My voice is pretty trashed this morning but most of the scratchy throat is gone and replaced by a phlegmy throat. I hate this stuff and can only hope that I have a voice for Sunday's show. I'll probably have to talk today at rehearsal otherwise I'll be quiet until the stumble-through on Saturday and hope for the best.
Continued vibes and marimbas!
-
I have Dan's snail mail address somewhere because he occasionally orders CDs but that's it, although I can check his account here - there's probably an e-mail address tied to it.
-
I, of course, was born in Los Angeles, California, USA and I have lived my entire life here in the City of Angels save for the year 1969, when I lived in Brooklyn, Flatbush to be exact.
-
What is this page eight malarky?
-
It's a ghost town around these here parts.
What a bunch of WUSSBURGERS.
Is it Sandra's birthday?
She's had so many birthdays in the last week she must be MY age already.
