And the word of the day is: CLANGOR!
I will sanitize this story for this here site:
During WWII, when Jackie Coogan was in the army, when he met guys he would say: "How would you like to shake the hand that shook the penis that boinked Betty Grable?"
He stopped saying it when a smart aleck recruit asked: "Whose penis was it?"
In the last Filichia column at Kritzerland, he discusses the Goodspeed Opera House's production of "Hello, Dolly!" with Klea Blackhurst and writes:
Even when she joins the chorus in “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” her voice stands out – not in that obnoxious way that Julie Andrews sounds when she’s showing off at the end of “Edelweiss.” Blackhurst is simply being a good team player who’s doing her job in singing; can she help it if her voice just happens to be heard among the rest?
For the record, and of course it's only my opinion, Julie Andres was never, in any way, obnoxious in her vocals for "The Sound of Music"...and I have always adored that she went up an octave on those final notes of "Edelweiss" at the folk festival. In fact, since the entire audience was singing, too, it reminded you that the Von Trapp family was on the stage singing.
There, I've said it and feel much better.

I wouldn't go near any of the modern-day rollercoasters, but I enjoy the old wooden ones.
For some reason, I had this phobia about the "World of Tomorrow" ride (is that the right name?) in Tomorrowland. I was scared that I was going to be shrunk down to microscopic size, and what if they couldn't undo it? :)
It would be hard to use a full-sized keyboard.

The Racer at King's Island is MY favorite!!!!
Leaving shortly to make a run to JFK airport. Pray for Rosemary's Baby!
That's a thrill-ride, in and of itself, DR Singdaw!
DR Jrand62, it amazes me the pace at which your productions, from casting to opening, are produced!

I've just seen the proposed artwork for DEAREST ENEMY. I was very disappointed in it: humorless and too somber.

That's too bad. :-\ Does it at least relate to the show or is it just a random image?

I feel the artist missed the boat. I loved his work for the Victor Herbert releases.

Damn. That's too bad. Maybe it can still change, or is this it?
Sounds interesting DR DRUXY! Interesting and sad....
It's exactly who you think it might be....
I gotta tell you. But I won't. The two "reasonable" copies of The Cuckoo's Calling - both at around $1,000 - got snapped up - I'm just surprised at how long it took the dealers, and let me tell you they WERE dealers, to buy it. But then again, every copy in the last two days has sold for over $1500. It's only a little over a week since this all hit. If there really were under 3000 printed, which is probably the case, while it will never be as rare as the first Harry Potter book, it could conceivably climb higher, probably to about two grand in the next few days, then beyond - the publisher is being very coy about not giving out a number for the first edition. But given that the second and third printings hit four days ago, and that they sold less than 1500 of whatever the first edition was, well, there can't have been too many more printed. And if they had, say, another 1000 or the original run, they're much better off just sitting on them while the madness continues.
You can assume I got my copy for less and you can be close to the number by simply removing one zero from 1,000.
Five zeros... preceeded by a two... preceeded by a dollar sign.. [an On the Twentieth Century reference]
TOD: Earliest memories of a trip to an amusement park was to Coney Island near Cincinnati. It is now Kings Island and I believe that an episode of the Partridge Family was filmed there.
I am not a roller coaster person, and the horrible accident that occurred this weekend will likely prevent me from ever going on a roller coaster again. I also don't care for things that turn me upside down. That said, I love the Ferris wheel and the swings. And that tube you get in where they spin you around and then drop the floor out from under you.
I was never big on merry-go-rounds, with the exception of the one in Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train.
I wouldn't go near any of the modern-day rollercoasters, but I enjoy the old wooden ones.
I love rollercoasters of any and all sorts, but the DH does not, and so I rarely have an opportunity to go on them. And this weekend's accident notwithstanding, I still would, if I had a chance. But I'm funny that way.
Anyhoo...
My first "big" amusement park might have been Cedar Point
In L.A. I went to Magic Mountain several times and liked it a lot, but way back in the mid-'70s. However, with that exception, I haven't been drawn to the huge contemporary Six Flags type of parks.

Greetings, all!
TOD: Growing up in the Philly area, once we moved into the suburbs, I used to frequent a place called Willow Grove Park, a small but wonderful place, about a 20 minute bike ride from my home.
And for the big family trips, we would go to the famous Hershey Park, where the entire town of Hershey, PA smelled like one giant chocolate factory. I wonder now if people who lived there ever got contact diabetes. ;)
I was a roller coaster junkie as a kid, but no longer. I mean, with the way they twist turn and shake these days, who needs the extra chiropractor bills? :D
That was so weird to us kids...that it was free to pee but you had to pay to poop. ::)

Hello, DR KevinH!
Congrats to William and Kate. So there will be 3 Kings in a row (if the monarchy lasts that long)!
Greetings, all!

I think Willow Grove is a mall now.

The mall sprang up across from the Park, and for a time, they were right across the road from each other. Now, it's just the mall. I'm not certain when the Park shut down. I've been to the mall a few times on trips home, and I miss seeing the Park there.

They changed the rule so if the baby had been a girl she would have inherited the crown as first born.
Considering how long she has been queen I expect Charles will still have a few good years left in him to "rule". I also suspect his son may be more suited for the job but then he might not want it too soon and prefer to spend time with his family.
Watching Live with Kelly and Michael. It's Broadway week. Today they featured Pippin. Unfortunately, Kelly is performing along with the Pippin actors. Oh, well, at least I'm getting an idea of what the show is about.
DR Ginny and her DH Richard have been holding out on us! :)

I like DR George's interpretation.
Good morning, all! Today is Pied Piper Day, the day that supposedly 130-160 children (depending on whose historic account) vanished from the German town of Hamelin in 1376. This has fascinated me since I first heard Robert Browning's poem somewhere in my elementary education past.
TOD:
We didn't have amusement parks anywhere near where I grew up. We'd have all the rides at the County fair each year, and I enjoyed the Boardwalk at Daytona Beach for one week each summer (usually the 4th of July week). The rides were okay there, but it was the "amusements"...games and such...that kept me entertained...especiallly Skee-Ball.
In my mid-teens, I enjoyed the amusement park at Myrtle Beach SC...especially the roller coaster I'd have paid double to get off at the top of the first rise. After the complete ride, however, I was in love with the thrill of it all.
And, yes, this weeken's accident is exactly why I'd never do it again. There is something to be said for being young and stupid! But far more can be said about being sadder but wiser.
For some reason, I had this phobia about the "World of Tomorrow" ride (is that the right name?) in Tomorrowland. I was scared that I was going to be shrunk down to microscopic size, and what if they couldn't undo it? :)

Maybe because there are so many Six Flags but they do seem to have more deaths than other parks. :(

Your chance of being killed on a roller coaster is 1 in 750 million
TCB I am sorry no new arrivals
Well, I must be going. Tonight will be the first rehearsal for the Hollywood murder mystery that I've been cast in! I don't know exactly what the title is...it's been referred to many different things over the last several weeks. For all I know, it probably is "The Hollywood Murder Mystery." Anyway, I'm sure that it'll be great fun! I know most of the cast and can't wait to get started.
Be back later!
Today is Vixdad's birthday
for his birthday a stranger decided to restore his faith in humanity
Vixdad reported the accident to our Insurer and started the process assuming he'd be stuck paying the $500 deductible
Shortly after dropping his car off at the Geico repair shop he received a call from State Farm stating that their insured had reported the accident and taken full responsibility for the accident and State Farm would be paying all the cost sfo the repair
