Well, you've read the notes, the notes were much ado about notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently thinking there's much ado about moo.
-
And the word of the day is: SOOK!
-
First Post!
-
Post first!
-
So BK, if you open the new day posts early, why not post your new notes early...are they not yet written?
Just curious.
-
There's no way for me to change the date like there was with the old thing we used to use. So, one writes the notes and then schedules them to automatically post just after midnight. I've done it three or four times now and it works fine.
-
Ahh. Makes sense.

Happy Birthday, Kevin Spirtas!

Morning all.

Jane, that's odd about no download. I went to the link myself and it seems to be available for download. It also does still play at the bottom of the first screen if you click where it says Click play to hear the preview of the song. When you get to the site do you see these instructions on the first screen?

If you don't see those instructions then I'm not sure what's causing the problem.
Perhaps this had something to do with it. I see the message under the "Download" button that says
The above download link will expire in 2 minutes.
Did you wait before you started the download?
I can see that it's been dowloaded and some friends wrote to say they were able to download and listen to it. TuneScoop never said anything about a limit on the number of downloads or a time limit. As I said, though, the segment is still available to listen to at the bottom of the first screen. I clicked on it and it still works. I'll have to monitor the situation and see how it goes.
Here is the link again, outside of the e-mail, perhaps it will work from here.
Kinky Boots TuneScoop (http://www.tunescoop.com/play/323131333234/bwom-kinky-boots-july-28-2013-tunescoop-mp3)
I know not from iTunes (I don't have it on the computer) so I don't have a clue why it won't play on that program but I'm not surprised. As I've stated, rather forcefully at times, I do not care for iTunes. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the idiosyncrasies of the program. At least it plays through my other "favorite" program Real Player.
I'll keep an eye out for problems. When it works it's great. Many friends have e-mailed saying how much easier it is to use TuneScoop but there are inevitable kinks to be worked out.

Good morning, all! I wish everyone a good start for their week. I will shortly head down to Toyland. I've got a lot of orchestra parts to print, so I can begin corrections. On my way down, I'll stop at the bank and cash in my jar of coins.
DR George, I saw this and thought of you!

Good morning, all.
Is it Monday yet?
Never mind, let's let DR Kerry answer that.

Busy day today. Many things to get done, or at least get started.
-
Will order CD in a little while from the real computer.
-
Also must run the AC later. Haven't had it on since before that cold snap last Wednesday or Thursday. Haven't needed it for heat, but the mugginess and dampness in the house have taken over.

I watched a wonderful British film last night, THE SCAPEGOAT. It's a remake of a 1959 Bette Davis film, based on a story by Daphne de Maurier. A man walks into a pub and happens upon his doppelganger. I would never have guessed how it plays out. Beautifully done, with lots of nuances.
DR Doug, have you seen this? I believe it was made for TV. Do you know? Anyone else seen it?
DR Jeanne - I see that it was shown on British TV last year but unfortunately I missed it. There's a DVD available so I've added it to my DVD rental list.

Here's the blurb for the new release, which is now live at Kritzerland.
Kritzerland is very proud to present a 2-CD set at a 1-CD price – five incredible scores on two CDs, four of them world premiere releases:
PREMINGER AT FOX
Including FALLEN ANGEL, WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS, LAURA, DAISY KENYON and WHIRLPOOL
Music Composed by David Raksin and Cyril J. Mockridge
For Preminger at Fox, we concentrate on five films, all of which were released on DVD under the Fox Film Noir umbrella. While one could argue about the use of the word noir in one instance, all five films have the look and feel of noir, they’re all very much of a piece and they’re all brilliantly directed by Otto Preminger.
Fallen Angel has all the classic noir ingredients – a down-at-the-heels drifter, a sultry siren that men will do anything for, an innocent nice girl, a tough cop, and various other archetypes. As he had with Laura, composer David Raksin provided another classic noir tune, this one called “Slowly,” which plays as source music throughout the film (and is sung by both Alice Faye and Dick Haymes). Additionally, Raksin provides his usual expert background score, beginning with a nervous, bustling, and exciting main title and continuing through a series of wonderful cues. There’s nothing quite like Raksin in noir mode and Fallen Angel is a Raksin classic.
Where the Sidewalk Ends reunited the stars of Preminger’s Laura – Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. The composer for Where the Sidewalk Ends wasn’t Preminger regular David Raksin, but a Fox staff composer named Cyril J. Mockridge, with whom Preminger had worked before. Mockridge based his score around Alfred Newman’s classic “Street Scene” music – a piece that was used regularly in films of all types at Fox during that era. But what Mockridge does with it is great, and his own original music, of which there is plenty, suits the film perfectly.
No Preminger at Fox collection would be complete without the film that started it all – Laura, Preminger’s 1944 classic. For this CD, we include “The Laura Suite – Theme and Variations.”
Daisy Kenyon (1947), is a drama with a romantic triangle at its center, involving Joan Crawford, Dana Andrews, and Henry Fonda. It’s a terrific drama, filled with Preminger’s directorial touches that elevate it from being just another potboiler. Once again, the composer is David Raksin. Although the film has almost no music, the little that’s there is wonderful.
Whirlpool (1949), has a cast that includes Gene Tierney, Richard Conte, Jose Ferrer, and Charles Bickford. Once again a Preminger film features a classic David Raksin score, this one filled to the brim with one great cue after another beginning with its dramatic and then beguiling main theme. For this film, Raksin is at his most atmospheric and it’s one of his best scores and the longest score in this set.
Five great films by one great director for a great studio – four with scores by David Raksin and one with a gem of a score by Cyril J. Mockridge, all of which adds up to some great Golden Age film score listening.
PREMINGER AT FOX is limited to 1000 copies only and the 2-CD set is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.
CD will ship the second week of September, but preorders placed at Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks early (we’ve been averaging four weeks). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

I saw a double rainbow that was nearly that intense on my way down I-71 toward Cincinnati in May 2012. (This would have been right in DR Ginny's neck of the woods.) It was so striking and memorable that when on that same stretch of highway a year later, in the same week of the year, I found myself keeping my eye open for another one, even though there had been no rain that time. Oddly enough, the weather over the rest of the trip prior to that had actually been identical to that of the year before.
Oh, and it was the first rainbow I'd seen that was without obstruction and you could see just about the entire arc.

Good day, all,
I'm looking forward to this week's Kritzerland show (as well as today's rehearsal). And after reading BK's comments on Joan's show last night, along with savoring his second book about recordings and his musical ear, I believe that if I ever get a cabaret show together for myself, there is only one director I would consider. His initials are BK.
TOD:
So many.
I grew up loving Jack Benny, Groucho, Phyllis Diller, Bob and Ray, Bob Newhart, and Bill Cosby.
Got to work a little with Bob Elliot of Bob and Ray, on his son, Chris' show, "Get a Life". Bob's delivery of even the smallest jokes just slayed everyone. Quiet brilliance.
Saw Cosby in Vegas once. He sat in a comfy armchair in front of the mains, and told stories for seeming ever. Only got up out of the chair once or twice. I don't remember laughing so hard at a live show.
Then came, Steve Martin, Robin Willams, David Brenner, George Carlin. I guess i just love stand up.
I worked with Rita Rudner last year in a play, and was reminded how much I enjoyed her unique delivery.
I also love me some Eddie Izzard (his Death Star canteen makes me laugh still), and saw him live 2 years ago, trying out new material at the old Coronet theater here in L.A..
Also Craig Ferguson, Billy Connelly, Louis CK.... and no doubt I've left out many.
Back to music work....

I have been home for bit, dealing with email questions about the ROBERTA score from our producer Judy, another round of artwork for DEAREST ENEMY, and other bits of fresh hell.
I rode the bus to Lincoln center, stopped at the TD Bank to use their coin counting machine to cash in $31.00 worth of coins, and transferred to the 104 bus. As I walked to the rear of the bus, someone pulled by arm; it was the wonderful Marni Nixon, whom I've not seen in a couple of years. I think I'll give her a call and see if she wants to get a cup of coffee. I do love her.

Back in the very early 80s, when I was with the cabaret act "Just Good Friends," a wonderful standup comedienne opened for us several times. My memory is that it was Rita Rudner.

I had my teeth whitened today and am rather pleased with the results. I tried other methods in the past and my teeth were too sensitive to tolerate them. This one seems to be ok, as I heard over & over from various people who work for the dentist. I have a home kit to keep it up and with luck that won't bother me either.
The price was better than I've paid before, worked better, and it is an environmentally "green" method. :)

Well, I'm off to rehearsal.
Be back later!
-
Well, after all of these years, and with a bit more delay over the past week or two than I'd wanted, I have finally watched the lovely LOVE IS A MANY-SPLENDORED THING.
I guess at six years of age or whatever that I wouldn't have been taken to this one, but it's kind of amazing to think I never came into contact with it in later years. I almost have to believe that the song was so iconic throughout those years that it almost seemed like I'd seen a movie of the same name without even knowing what said movie was even about. That sounds totally absurd, but there it is. Regardless, what a wonderful discovery now, and I already look forward to more viewings.
-
DR John G, did you see the news about the film versions of THE GOOD COMPANIONS getting DVD releases?
I did. Thank you. Unfortunately, amazon only has the oldest film version available. I have not done any homework to see where I can find the other two versions.

More drugs prescribed today as the ears have begun blocking up. Ugh.
-
Rehearsal was too rough for my taste - we have three newcomers this month and not a one of them was prepared even though they're told upfront that I like them to at least pretty much be off book for our first rehearsal so I can see what they're doing. The two people who've done this before were fully prepared and therefore it was very easy for me to hear the arrangements and make adjustments. The newcomers have had their material for three weeks and I don't think a one of them did anything with it until a few days ago - this just baffles me. One was hoarse and was completely on book - hopefully she'll have her voice back by Thursday and will know her stuff perfectly. One needs to learn two of his numbers - he knows the third because it's from a show he just did. But he has the wordiest song of the show, a real tongue twister and a long one at that. He actually asked if we could find a simpler song and I said no. The other is really talented and I love her voice, but she too hadn't really nailed down anything, and one of the songs really needs precision and that one wasn't prepared at all. The idea is that we don't have to actually teach anything in the first rehearsal, but we did a lot of teaching today.
-
I then did a little interview with a Variety staffer about our little soundtrack label word. I'm afraid I was brutally honest :)
-
Now I'll finish Once Is Not Enough.
-
And while I'm doing that why don't you just get me off this damn page?
-
Brutal honesty is often just what's needed.
-
Now it's time to do some new drugs and shuffle off to bed.
-
Good night, all.

Lord, lord, lord (that is three lords - now all we need is a taylor), we really have been in the dog days of July this past week. I don't really get it, but I know who the culprits are and I shall bitch slap them from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
I then did a little interview with a Variety staffer about our little soundtrack label word. I'm afraid I was brutally honest :)
That sounds intriguing. Hopefully, a link can be posted.

Tonight, we had rehearsal for the first 12 pages of "Hollywood Who Done It."
-
My big scene as Maxwell, one of the Hollywood producers, is in those first 12 pages. I do have a couple of other producer scenes.
-
The producers, Maxwell and Matthews (who is played by a fairly young, VERY skinny and VERY tall guy) are always together and are on vacation. We're also British...that's right, British Hollywood producers...just for fun. :D
-
My other character is Kershaw, the no-nonsense plain-clothes police officer investigating the murder with his fairly young, VERY skinny and VERY tall partner, Stycks. Kershaw and Stycks are not British, so I can do a "normal" voice for him.

Why are we keeping page five alive?
-
I have to write some notes I suppose.
-
I'm planning on going to work early tomorrow because a couple of coworkers and I decided a few weeks ago to go to a restaurant that opened several years ago as a Quiznos.
-
Then early last year, it got new owners and they turned it into a Pepperjack Cheesesteak and Burgers, then early this year it was sold again and it became Daybreak Deli (but it's not a real deli).
-
It pretty much has the same menu as what Pepperjack had, but the burgers (I never liked cheesesteak sandwiches) are really good. Anyway, that's why we're going....
-
Linda in the business office went there when Pepperjack first opened and didn't really like it. I thought that it was okay and kept going.
-
Now that it's Daybreak Deli, they've really improved and I said that we should go so that she could try it again.
-
Jayne (also in the business office) said that she would go to, but she might back out...which is not unusual for Jayne. ;) But today, she wasn't feeling too well. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
-
Why are we keeping page five alive?
Well, since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
I'm watching "Love and Other Drugs" that I got from Netflix.
-
Jake Gyllenhaal is very nice to look at.
;)
