Well, you've read the notes, the notes had V-7, and now it is time for you to post until the Kellogg's Kows come home.

DR ChasSmith - I am astonished that Bayou has 100 different sauces!  Is that a typical cajun thing?

Good morning.  I have to go catch up on yesterday, which somehow got away from me - though not in a  bad way, for the MOST part anyway.

In the notes yesterday, I discovered that I am Greek - interesting.....English/German on both sides....so someone must have taken a vacation at one time or another.

When I was little I would see
Many products on TeeVee.

I did not get to buy them much
Money being tight and such.

My favorites though were good and many
E'en though I got not any.

Still I would watch and sometimes pray
That there would come the happy day

When I would get what I would see
Appearing then on my TeeVee.

Thanks to DR MBARNUM for the early birthday card that arrived yesterday.  Most entertaining.

Good morning, all! What a huge number of posts yesterday!

DR singdaw, I must have missed something, but what is this "moving" and"midwest" situation?

I have no plans for today or Sunday and I am very happy about that. I will watch a few DVDs, and try to move about as little as possible.  On Monday, I must go back down to Toyland for various and sundry jobs, but I hope I can get about without too much pain.\

Sugar Frosted Flakes and now it's Frosted Flakes
Sugar Pops and now it's Corn Pops
Sugar Smacks and now it's Honey Smacks
Super Sugar Crisp and now it's Golden Crisp

When I was growing up it was

Sugar Frosted Flakes and now it's Frosted Flakes
Sugar Pops and now it's Corn Pops
Sugar Smacks and now it's Honey Smacks
Super Sugar Crisp and now it's Golden Crisp

EXACTLY!

All of those, and I think some Raisin Bran (Post? Kellogg? maybe either?).  But let's face it, those sugary ones were the greatest.

It's too bad about the name changes.  Just last year I tried looking for Sugar Crisp and was confounded by the lack of it in stores.  I actually had to use the internet to figure out what was what.  But all four of those.  Shocking!  And there's probably not one iota of real difference in the ingredients.

I remember sending away to Kellogg's for prizes or whatnot, and always wondered what someone at Kellogg's thought of ME for winning whatever it was.

Were they the ones in Battle Creek, Michigan?  And wasn't at least one of those cereals shot from cannons?  My li'l kid brain liked to envision all the cannons that must be sitting around a town of that wonderful name from, who knows, the Revolutionary War or something, taken over by Kellogg's for the production of their wonderful cereal.

When I was growing up I could do the voices for the commercials for the cereals

Count Chocula (Vampire)
Franken berry (Frankenstein's monster)
Booberry (Ghost)

and they are still around

not knowing they were variations on Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff & Peter Lorre

and two less successful cereals with Werewolf and Mummy (fruity tastes)
which are no longer around.

My dad would sometimes bring home the "healthier" cereals that weren't nearly so much fun to eat, like Shredded Wheat.  And we ate many others, such as regular Corn Flakes and Bran Flakes and Rice Krispies and Corn Chex and Wheat Chex and really, I'd have to do some searching to remember them all.  But even though we'd have the occasional eggs or pancakes (probably mostly on weekends) and the occasional hot oatmeal, we were generally a cold cereal breakfast family and must have literally had them all.

Post by: ChasSmith on August 24, 2013, 05:25:16 AM
It's really funny about all the "now"-correct name changes, because one look at the cereal aisle in the supermarkets tells you that all of these things continue to sell like hotcakes even in the new millennium, regardless of whether today's mothers "Moms" see the word sugar or not.

Chockle the Blob

and many special editions and versions that didn't succeed

But DR Mike keeps me going, damn him.  When I do browse the cereal aisle, I feel glad that I got out of the house and out of regular cereal eating prior to the veritable explosion (not just an explosion; a veritable explosion) of so many of those character names and flavor combinations.  They actually make me a little sick looking at them and imagining the flavors and the cloying icky kid-appealing sweetness.  ewwww!!

By the bye, I'm wondering about those "100 sauces" too, DR SingAlong.

Also, the blurb on that website says The Bayou North is a "mini me" of the Fleetwood Bayou.

A "mini me" !!!

Maybe we'll only get to choose from, say, 50 sauces!

Matthew, Eddie Money was in the first concert I ever saw. It was one of those events with about five acts and Money was in the middle. He had just broken on the scene and was a lot of fun.

Sadly, the headliner of that concert was Ted Nugent, and, well, we all know how much of a horrifying mess that's turned into.

DR TCB, I tried to find some "white noise" on youtube so that you could hear what it sounds like. But truthfully I don't find that any of the videos with white noise are that close.

Just picture a big fan. It sort of makes that kind of noise, but not exactly.  It just basically blocks out most sounds and is very soothing to sleep to.  I also love it for reading. It blocks out noises from other rooms (tv) or outside.  I've been sleeping a lot better since I got this machine. I absolutely love it.

TOD - Some of my most memorable commercials were for Faygo (http://www.faygo.com/Display.aspx?id=22), a Detroit product.

Special faves are The Faygo Kid and UpTown, both from 1950, and Faygo Remembers, 1970.

Several phrases from the 1950 spots were a regular part of my Dad's lexicon:

"Which way did he go, which way did he go?"
"Blow, or Go"
"I'm too pooped to participate."

My trip to the pharmacy went well. I waited forever for a return bus, an M11, which was driven by a total ass; he sped past me before he stopped the bus, so I had a nice walk to board it, and, since he hadn't stopped at the curb, which makes the step up not so high, I had a major and rather painful climb to board. When he got to my stop, he slammed on the brakes and I nearly lost my balance and fell. I guess he figured the faster he made his route the sooner he could go home.  I hope he dies on the way.  New York life is unpleasant enough without having problems with the employees your taxes are paying to be helpful.

Clare Easton (http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/middletown/obituary.aspx?n=clare-a-easton&pid=166580574#fbLoggedOut)

Clare and I worked together at the Miami University campus here in Middletown.  She was such a classy lady and a good friend.  We'd lost touch when she developed dementia and moved to Illinois near her son.

I'm sorry.  I just think the subject matter is inappropriate for a musical...or a time travel story.

It's like doing a musical about 9/11 or the Fort Hood massacre.

Maybe it just needs more distance, time-wise.

Well my mean neighbor David told me in first grade when we were washing out the paint brushes in class, so after that I had my doubts.  I pretty much knew already, but was hoping I was wrong. I'm thinking I got Crissy in second grade.  The kicker for me was that my grandparents didn't have a fireplace and no one had ever explained to me how Santa got in when there wasn't a chimney

My niece told me that when she realized that there was no Santa (I don't know if one of her friends told her, but I don't think any family member told her), she was mad!  We all lied to her!  She said that she was upset for quite a while after that.

I love this show. I think I saw it three times. Enid Futterman wrote some simple, well-structured lyrics that grew as Anne matured. And Michael Cohen's music is lovely and heartfelt.

There was an Anne Frank musical about someone time-traveling back to try to save Anne Frank.

here's the link

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/77360-Saving-Anne-Musical-About-Time-Travel-and-Anne-Frank-Gets-US-Premiere-in-MI (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/77360-Saving-Anne-Musical-About-Time-Travel-and-Anne-Frank-Gets-US-Premiere-in-MI)

I'm sorry.  I just think the subject matter is inappropriate for a musical...or a time travel story.

It's like doing a musical about 9/11 or the Fort Hood massacre.

Maybe it just needs more distance, time-wise.

Druxy, I have the cast recording to Yours, Anne (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Yours-Anne-1985-Original-Off-Broadway-Cast/2219) and it's a small, intimate and respectful show.  I think the recording is quite good (I've never seen the show, itself).  It has since been reworked into a song cycle, now called I Am Anne Frank (http://castalbums.org/recordings/I-Am-Anne-Frank-1996-Studio-Cast/1037).  That might be more to your liking.  It's basically the same score, but not an actual "musical."  Now, it's just excerpts of Anne's diary set to the same music of the show and almost all of the other characters have been cut.  I also like this other recording.

Well, I've been at work for a few hours and it's time to leave.  I went to my sister's earlier today and she had made some wonderful waffles.  She brought me back some genuine Canadian maple syrup...actually purchased in Canada (from her trip there, which is why I had to feed her cats)! :D It was delish!  The syrup, not the cats.  She also gave me a pen and a key chain with CANADA written on them and some chocolate-maple cookies!  I haven't opened those, yet, but I will soon.  She also paid me back for her part of our dad's birthday computer, so that was nice.  Anyway, I want to get something to eat and then I'm going home.

Be back later!

From around three am this morning until around noon I was sicker than a dog.  It might have been a bug, there are several going around, but I believe it was something that I ate yesterday.  It could have been the birthday cake (Nawwwwwwwwww), but my hunch is the burger I had for lunch.  A former co-worker and friend took me to one of my favorite lunch spots around town.  It is called the Loose Wheel, so in the tradition of BK. I call it The Flat Tire.
I had the Holy Guacamole Burger.  I have had it before, but yesterday is was just too damn spicy.  I almost gagged on the first bite, but I trudged forward and ate the whole damn thing, as well as the tater tots.

Anyway, by noon, I was feeling better but I still just lounged around all day.

Sugar Frosted Flakes and now it's Frosted Flakes
Sugar Pops and now it's Corn Pops
Sugar Smacks and now it's Honey Smacks
Super Sugar Crisp and now it's Golden Crisp

And the Corn Pops without the Sugar, are pretty nasty.

Thanks Jennifer.

And who didn't want their own Peter Lemongello, meaning his "Love 76" album of course

you couldn't turn on the TV in the New York metropolitan area in 1976 without seeing  a Peter Lemongello commercial
