Well, you've read the notes, the notes were released and rehearsed, not necessarily in that order, and now it is time for you to post until the rehearsed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: JAPE!
-
BK, I love "Dear Mr. Gershwin" from Radio Gals!
-
Looking good, DR George!
-
Oh, and the bacon was also looking pretty good, DR John G.!

Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's early, but I'm up.
-
Good morning, all! I finally gave in around 10:30 and took the Tylenol with codeine and a flexerill to help me sleep. The pain in my left leg focused last night on the joint between foot and ankle and throbbed incessantly most of the night. I slept very poorly, but I did get some sleep.
Today, whether I want to or not, I must walk to the corner, catch a bus, and do some banking. I hope to accomplish that in another hour or so. Tonight, I'm supposed to have dinner with friends who are moving to London. Ihope I am up to it.

If you have any knowledge and fondness of British Music Hall, this program is a lot of fun. It's a tribute to a program called The Good Old Days, a BBC television program which ran from 1953 to 1983. It recreated the atmosphere of the Victorian–Edwardian music hall with songs and sketches of the era performed by present-day performers in the style of the original artistes.
This particular radio program is only up through this Friday, August 30th at about 3pm Eastern Standard Time.
BBC Radio The Good Old Days (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b02yj9vc/Friday_Night_is_Music_Night_The_Good_Old_Days/)
Enjoy!

Good morning, all.
Continued healing vibes for Elmore and Richard and anyone else in need. Dental vibes for BK's daughter.
And Tuesday vibes for all.

TOD: I generally try to make something each year that I've never cooked before. It might be salt-encrusted fish, bread or mayonnaise from scratch, but the point is to get in there and not be intimidated by something. I usually end up doing three or four and really enjoy it.
I'm listening to Julia Child's autobiography of her years in France right now and that is making me want to get in the kitchen and start making sauces.
-
George, the photo looks great.

:)
-
Good morning.
Happy Tuesday.

Thank you, George, Lapsang Souchong, Kate, Vixmom and Jeanne. I wonder how dieting will continue?

Good morning, all.
Had to rise and shine (okay, I didn't exactly shine) and load Mikey* into the carrier for his return trip to the vet for dental work: two more extractions (he's had to lose several already, just one of those cats) and cleaning the rest. They'll "do" him this afternoon and we'll pick him up tomorrow.
*the cat, not the DR
Which btw is just one more of the good things about this cat clinic -- they won't release 'em till the day after, whenever they've been sedated. I know someone in NYC who had to bring hers home following something like this, when the cat obviously shouldn't have been anywhere but safely inside a protective cage during recovery.
And now?
Coffee!

We watched MUD last night.
Good movie.
-
TOD
Millions of things.
But for the most part, just a lot of stuff that most home cooks take for granted. I'm fairly limited in my knowledge. Which is unfortunate, because whenever I do take the trouble to follow a recipe, it has just about always come out well. I just take plunges into cooking way, WAY too infrequently.
-
MUD
And don't forget...
MUD spelled backward is... :)

This coming weekend is Norwalk's famous Oyster Festival. Well, pretty famous around these parts, anyway. They've got food, rides, entertainment, etc., etc. My first apartment on my own was across the street from the 35-acre park on Long Island Sound that serves as the venue.
In any case, I just got the flier in the mail for this year's event. The headline act on Saturday night is...
Wait for it...
THE VILLAGE PEOPLE!
-
The Oy!ster Festival!
Yes indeed, a fall ritual.
Not that I've ever gone to it, myself. But if I'm remembering correctly, a friend saw THE MONKEES there some years back. (Does that sound right?)
-
(Does that sound right?)
Undoubtedly! ;D
-
The Oy!ster Festival!
Well, when you put it that way...
It sounds like our very own DR elmore3003 should be the headline act! ;D
-
Well, gosh...
All this morning frivolity and fun has STILL not brought us to Page 2. :-\
-
But oh, so very very close.

Thanks to DR MATTHEW and DR TCB for the late night birthday greetings.
Nice link DR BEN!!
Congrats to DR JOHN G on the book contract.

What a nice por-trate, DR Jrand63!

Yesterday, my gardener work colleague gave me freshly picked carrots, tomatoes, and green beans.

I think he's already the Upper West Side's own headline act! Let's not spread him around TOO thin!
-
Thank you DR SINGDAW.
-
The Oyster Festival sounds fantastic! I wanna go!!!
DR George, I loved your photo you posted last night, and I forgot to congratulate DR John G on his book contract.
I just had my trek to 72nd Street; as long as I'm looking at my shoes while I walk, there's no pain, but when I forget, it's so bad I can hardly stand. But I'm now home: no falls, no collisions, no bruises.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! After my killer day yesterday I crashed about 10pm and slept 'til 8:30 this morning. Today, it's back to AAUW work and some household stuff.
-
Feel better vibes for DR Elmore!
-
Congratulations to DR John G on signing the book contract!
Ahem, DR Vixmom, I think I volunteered to be research assistant first ;)
-
I suspect whoever shows up first in San Antone' ready to hit the ground running will win the assignment.
-
On reflection this morning, I realize whole subplots were dropped for the US Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And they all contributed something worthwhile to the story, so, just another reason the original is more satisfying.
I'd also mentioned the subtitles being more challenging than usual. That's because of the incredible number of names to absorb, and the fairly quick pace of the proceedings. But it is all so damned rewarding. When I go back to watch it again, I'll try the English dub track, but I usually only enjoy those in the case of fun old B-pictures, horror and whatnot. In the case of TATTOO, the subtitles force you to a more thorough understanding of the film, and that's where it's at for me.
-
DR JohnG, congratulations on the new book deal!!
-
TOD:
Brains. I have always wanted to try them...and I am not a zombie.
-
Gosh darn allergies or something is making me miserable this week, and I don't like it.
-
John, great news about the book!
-
I don't believe I've congratulated DR John G. on the book.
Congratulations on the book, DR John G.! Seriously, how great to have that opportunity handed to you, and I can't even imagine how great it would be to be a participant survivor of the Texas Barbecue Tour!
-
Good Morning all,
TOD: Cannot think of anything yet!
-
DR Druxy,
I take it you didn't like MUD?
-
I was curious about MUD. We almost watched it, but decided not to on Movies on Demand on Time Warner Cable.
-
From DR Cilla:
It's a date. I think we had a Dorothy Parker or something she inspired when we were there
I only remember that I became a bit giggly from the drink :) It was a very fun time and my only time at the hotel and their bar. The waiter was nice too.
-
From DR Singdaw:
DR Cillaliz - is there a homemade apple pie in your future?
I wish we could eat the apples in our tree but they aren't very good. The wildlife enjoys them. Unfortunately the pear tree attracts bears and the very big bear (size determined by the scat left behind) is destroying the tree. We have decided we should really pull it down and if we do so the apple tree will go with it.
-
Oh - that's really too bad, DR Jane! :P

Oh man. Remember the lost/stolen cell phone?
Our long national nightmare is almost over.
"Your Request for Service has been approved and a new phone has been ordered. Please allow 4-6 BUSINESS days for delivery."
It's taken two weeks of jumping through hoops and bugging Verizon for a statement and bugging the police department for the report, which I just picked up yesterday...but the damned insurance is coming through.
Yay!!!!! ;D

-
Page 3!
Finally. Just in the nick redman of time.
-
I'm up - phone rang at nine-fifteen, but I went back to sleep so I think I got eight and a half hours or something like it.
-
Lots of e-mails and if most of them are orders we'll be sold out today.
-
It would seem REALLY surprising if it isn't sold out today, based on the popularity of the score, the notoriety of the various releases. and the length of the conversations devoted to it this past week.
Just one DR's opinion.

What's all this about DR John G. writing a new book called The Humongous Scat?? :o

I really want to see this. I like Matt Damon and I really enjoyed "District 9," which is by the same director. :)

Good day, all!
Oh, BK, it kills me that I can't be there for the anniversary show. It sounds like something truly special. And having sung with both Valerie and Kay, those two will shake the room with those voices! Sadly, I will be in tech all day, since we have an invited dress two days after.
it's back to La Jolla for me today. And I may go missing tomorrow, with a quick trip to Portland, OR for a corporate gig... flying out on a 6:40AM flight for an evening show? Who books that kinda thing at the buttcrack of dawn? ::) Oh, well, I'll be happy when the check comes.
Have a great Tuesday!
-
Good telephone news from DR CHAS SMITH.
I bought THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST and THE GIRL WHO PLAYS WITH FIRE for $3 each in their original versions at the local Family Dollar store....I have not opened either of them.

GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL

Oh - that's really too bad, DR Jane! :P

I hope you mean jazz singing. :-)
-
Perhaps I am not meeting friends for dinner tonight. Hmmm . . .
On Thursday night, I'm having dinner with Rob Berman and Bruce Pomahac. I look forward to that. I hope the Man from Philadelphia sends me my check soon. I'm still pissed that he didn't pay me a per diem in Dublin.
-
George, the photo looks great.
Thanks, John G.!
I meant to say something and then rushed off to the gym. I also think the photo is terrific.

TOD:
What I've never made, but would have fun attempting: the "timpano" from Big Night.
What I haven't eaten that I'd like to try: the entire meal from Babette's Feast. :)
I made this in a hands-on cooking class. It's a lot of work, but our version wasn't the end-all that the movie made it out to be. It could have been that our tomato sauce was overcooked to start with and then it cooks even more after you put the whole thing together.

Finished "Cuckoo's Calling" today after a marathon reading of the last 200 pages. I thought she built the tension toward the end quite well, but the middle seemed awfully padded.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through. The show has taken up too much of my reading time. I have been enjoying it, though.
-
Jrand, if you haven't opened them and they're the not extended versions, they're not worth watching - the extended versions add a LOT of material to each film and story and they are 1000% better with that added stuff.

Have had a fascinating day. Had another ham and swiss on rye, without the onion rings, got some good news on an upcoming Kritzerland project in terms of transfers, and then was invited to the FotoKem lab to meet up with Robert A. Harris, who is doing some work there. While I promised not to talk about it, I can just say it's on a film that many are anticipating on Blu and Ray and I now know ALL the details about all of it - and saw some fun footage. This was just some of the raw transfers - color correction comes later in the week and I'm going to see if I can watch some of that, too.

I seem to recall that entire movie was filmed in a kind of swirl of dust and amber light. Great music.

So, there's a menu touting something called squash blossoms with pimiento ricotta. I think that's a fancy way of saying pimento cheese, if you ask me.
-
Got the 2-disc set, The Best of Burt Bacharach: Anyone Who Had a Heart, from the library. Interesting collection of who's doing what. Isaac Hayes is performing the only song from "Promises," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again." No rhyme or reason on the order of songs, either, but I doubt I'll mind that.

Let's say goodbye to Page Four, shall we?

Finished "Cuckoo's Calling" today after a marathon reading of the last 200 pages. I thought she built the tension toward the end quite well, but the middle seemed awfully padded.
I pretty much agree with that. I will say if there is another with the same two main characters (as I assume there will be) I will definitely read it.
-
I liked Gatsby in 3D.
-
Time for bed. Lots to do at the office tomorrow. Night
-
Listening to what will be the second half of a great upcoming project - the first half we've had for ages - but it's only fourteen minutes long, the entire duration of that score in the film it's from, although we have about ten to fifteen minutes of alternates. But we've finally just transferred the companion score, same composer, and it's so beautiful, plus it has some nice forties style big-band stuff, too.
-
Hi everyone who is still awake. Back from a great rehearsal. This show might actually turn out great. Tomorrow is the first day at school with the kids and I'm totally looking forward to seeing them.
-
Well, it's time for the theater! Our first preview audience will be there!
Be back later!
We had a pretty darned good show tonight. There was an audience of about 20 and they seemed to enjoy the show. I didn't get to see if there was anyone I knew. I don't really get a chance to actually look at any audience members while I'm on stage. I think several friends are coming tomorrow night. I'm sure that they'll stick around after the show.
-
The only real goober tonight was during my big cop scene between Kershaw (me) and Stycks (the young, giant puppy dog of a cop played by a guy named Guy). We're trying to get into the building and we try to literally knock down the walls, but Guy's gun went off! :o It's just a starter pistol, but it was loud.
-
The problem is that Stycks is actually supposed to shoot his gun a little later in the scene and someone inside the building gets shot. The actress who gets shot was outside in the hall and screamed when the gun went off, which is what she is supposed to do, but it was early. We had no choice but to continue from that point. I figure that we only lost about half a page, but still....

Tomorrow, Guy is going to try something different, but I don't know what. I'm not wearing my gun during that scene because I never use it and I don't have a holster. The only time I use the gun is at the very end when we shoot [
REDACTED]. ;) Then the show is over.
