Title: NOTES IN VARIOUS KEYS
Post by: bk on September 19, 2013, 12:26:45 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in various keys, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing in three different keys at the same time, making beautiful MOOdern MOOsic.

Good morning, all! I was asleep by midnight, awake around 4am, and at 7:00 I decided to get up and sit in a hot bath for a while. Given my limited movement ability, I'm feeling pretty good. i have physical therapy at 11. and I look forward to that. When I get home, I'll have my usual day of small pleasures: a lie down, some tv, some reading, a tiny bit of work for Susanna Moross, then I will order dinner from Artie's,watch some more CASTLE Season 5, and go to bed. I like being up at 7am, and I want to get this schedule back in my life.  If tomorrow is like last Tuesday, I will be in great pain from the therapy tomorrow, and I do not look forward to that.

I love Fahrenheit 451, book and movie, and am sorry to hear about an off Blu-ray transfer.  Damn.  Damn it to hell.

TOD:  That, plus The October Country, Martian Chronicles, and Something Wicked This Way Comes -- which didn't start off as a favorite but it has grown on me over the years.  Must watch that film soon.  'Tis just about the season.

DR George I just did a search on "kindle" and came up with this that you wrote last time:

"Have you tried putting the cursor in the URL field and hitting "enter" (or the return button)?  Or have you tried going to the column archives and getting to the notes that way?  "

So i am going to try this.

I love Ray Bradbury. Somewhere I have a huge anthology of his stories.  If I could dig it out, I'd read some of them again today. I do know where the DVD of MOBY DICK is, though, and its his screenplay , and I've never seen the film of SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES . . .

I now think you are right, DR JRand63. I love the film, but I can only watch it occasionally. My last time was around 2004. It's a film that is s wonderful that it hurts, and Ronee Blakly's Barbara Jean reminds me so much of my mother's youngest sister Lois.

I just checked IMDB and it was Gould!

I've been up since eight - the new operating system for iPhone and iPad came last night, so I updated both and spent the morning hours getting used to the new design, new features and just figuring stuff out - some things, like Calendar look quite different.  And tomorrow, the two new iPhone models come out - I will get the 5S - I could never get the five because my plan wasn't up until last summer - I almost got one then but figured something new was coming this year and for the first time waited - and am glad I did.

Thanks for confirming DR ELMORE....

And I was incorrect - it was Henry Gibson (Haven Hamilton) who tells Karen that Julie has won an Academy Award.....although he also mentions The Christy Minstrels when Julie shows up....

I wanted a BLT, so I ordered one from the corner bodega along with a few groceries. The East Indian man who runs it is very nice but usually the young lady whose English is better answers the phone. So, I explained a BLT was bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo and a slice of American cheese on toasted whle wheat bread. The sandwich I got, which was quite tasty, was a BLT club, since it also included a lot of sliced turkey!

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of sitting next to and chatting with Ray Bradbury.  It was at some dinner sponsored by a Sherlock Holmes group.  I was there to talk about Basil Rathbone, but I don't recall what Bradbury's connection to the group was.

I'm so jealous!

I love Ray Bradbury. Somewhere I have a huge anthology of his stories.  If I could dig it out, I'd read some of them again today. I do know where the DVD of MOBY DICK is, though, and its his screenplay , and I've never seen the film of SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES . . .

When I was in high school, I had a science fiction reading class (I think) and we watched that movie.  I was riveted.  At one point, someone behind me grabbed me as a joke and I jumped because I was so engrossed in the movie!  I haven't seen it since then.  Actually, I remember that moment more than the movie itself.

My replacement debit card still hasn't arrived so I called Paypal and had a very frustrating conversation with some yokel, then a nicer one with his supervisor.  All they can tell me is that it "looks" like it went out on the 11th, but it may not have because the company they use to create the cards had some issue and it created a lot of delays - they apparently have isolated whatever the issue is and implemented a fix for whatever it is, but cards could take two to four MORE weeks to get to us, which means it might not arrive until October 11.  In about three days a ton of online auto pays will fail now and I will not enter my Kritzerland debit card info on any of those sites, so I'm going to have to call each and every one and tell them what happened and if they don't actually do paypal payments then they're just going to have to wait until the new card comes and it's just tough beans if they don't like it.  The only problematic one is the data charge for the iPad - but that's not till the first of the month.  The AT&T people I'll call, DirecTV I'll call, and Time Warner I'll call.  Everyone else can wait.

And now I'll just jog that frustration the hell out of me.  I did have a wonderful conversation with Muse Margaret this morning about what will be the new book and she's really excited I'm doing story she loves that was once upon a time going to be a film.  I told her some ideas and she absolutely adored them and it's turning into a completely different thing than the screenplay we were pitching.  Completely new plot stuff, characters, and ideas.  And she loves the title and I think it may be the best title I've ever come up with.  I came up with the title fifteen years ago in thinking about a different idea I had.  Then I appropriated it for the other idea but not as the title of it - but for the novel it is a perfect title and much better than the jokey title we had for the movie - that was also mine, but it was smart-assy and not what I want at all for what this book will be.  I will be making notes now (have already started) and know exactly how I want to begin the book and what the first chapter will be and even what the first third of the book will be in terms of how to set the world and the characters, with the plot kicking in somewhere around chapter six - much like the Kritzer books.  Color me excited and I'll begin, as I always do, January 1.

I am having some matzoh ball soup and potato salad from Artie's for dinner, and I will later have a part of the Artie's birthday cake with a scoop of ice cream.  I'll have the rest of the cake for breakfast tomorrow.

George I thought the bowl was blue until you mentioned the boa was in it-lol

There are all sorts of things you can do with it.  You can put pretty colored stones in the bottom and float flowers in it.  You can use it to serve food or you can fill it with your favorite key chains.

Several co-workers said that I should bring it to work and fill it with candy.  I was actually going to do that, but I forgot to get candy last night when I was at Costco...and then I forgot to bring the bowl to work today, anyway. ::)

I watched last night.  I (mostly) agreed with the top six that they showed.  I really would've liked the KriStef Brothers in the mix, but that's just me.  Otherwise, I agree with the selection of, but was torn between, the top two.  I really liked the winner and felt he should've been in the top two, but I really wanted the first runner up to win.  He definitely will have a very successful career.

I think you would like the movie, and the book as well, of FAHRENHEIT 451.  Both Julie Christie and Oskar Werner are wonderful in this, especially Werner.

There are changes from the book to the film that make each unique.  I've mentioned before that Ray Bradbury used to stop in at the Bruin Theater, where Keith and I worked, while the movie was playing.  He would go in, watch awhile and then leave.  He was extremely happy with it.

Back from a fun dinner at The Smoke House with the Darling Daughter.  She had the yummilicious pulled pork sandwich and I had a cup of clam chowder and a shrimp cocktail, along with three smallish pieces of the garlic cheese bread, so well within my calorie count.  She had creme brûlée for dessert and I had strawberries.

I do know where the DVD of MOBY DICK is, though, and its his screenplay , and I've never seen the film of SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES . . .

Are you sure that MOBY DICK isn't one of your videos?

Happy to say that Christiane Noll will be joining our And the World Goes Round recording cast.  Couldn't be happier that the timing worked.  She was the first person I thought of for the Karen Mason track and her voice will be perfect for it.

And RYacko will be coming back to Kritzerland for our holiday show.

Today I went for my yearly physical.  I was expecting a battle over the two additional surgeries.  I went in, laid out all my reasons for not having them, and his only response was, "Okay."

Of course the fact that he was a half hour away from leaving on his two week fishing trip helped a great deal.
