Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Colorforms, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently playing with their Cowlorforms.
-
And the word of the day is: CATHEXIS!
-
I never had a Colorforms set, but one thing we did have that I really liked was a Lite Brite (http://www.hasbro.com/litebrite/en_US/).
-
I remember playing with Colorforms. It was probably my sister's set.
-
Over on That Other Site, errant & truant DR JoseSPiano has uncovered a little holiday video tidbit featuring The East Coast Singer:

DR George - to answer your question of last night: I have the latest Kindle; the one that was released around Thanksgiving. I just love it!
I think I have owned every Kindle model, at one time or another (except the Fire tablets). I love to read, so that is my present to myself.
-
DR elmore3003 - do you know if Ron Raines had to shave his head to play Daddy Warbucks, or if he is using a skull cap?
-
Good morning, all.
Not too much of a sleeping-in this morning, but it feels like absolute heaven after yesterday's early rising and all-day schedule.
Coffee, baby. Coffee.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen... It's snowing.
-
It is certainly Tuesday.
-
Morning, all!
TOD: In my house, toys got broken far too quickly to ever be favorited. Books and bikes, on the other hand, were treasured.
-
TOD
I never knew from Colorforms! I shall have to ask my sister if she had them.
Off the top of my head (which neither holds nor sprouts anything), I'm remembering an electric train set, a little set of toy soldiers, a couple of chemistry sets, a (Sears, I think) gas station, a toy steering wheel and dashboard thing, and... and... what else? Interesting question. I'll have to think about this. I know I was crazy about toys, and the fabulous toy department at the wonderful downtown Lazarus department store at Christmas, but what the HELL were they?
Oh yes, View-Masters. Yes indeed. We had some, and my grandparents had some, plus one of those viewers with the battery-operated light attachment. About ten years ago I developed a renewed interest in View-Master and bought a couple of viewers and some reels off eBay. Probably none of the real rare and collectible ones, but a nice little selection. There is, or was, a woman in Cincinnati who had the biggest, rarest collection of all things View-Master; my folks sent me an article about her. I do love that stuff, and would also not mind having a collection of the old stereo-optic cards (what's the proper name for them?) from around the turn of the last century, but I've never made a move on that.
-
I'm remembering a toy rocket that I have snapshots of my dad and me launching in my grandparents' yard.
Also, model cars and airplanes to assemble and paint. Later, those would be replaced by interests in the original Visible Man, and the original Aurora editions of the Universal Monsters. And oh, how I wish I'd kept those. I've wept and gnashed teeth over that particular loss more than a few times over the years.
-
Good morning, all.
Pain-free vibes for all in need.
-

TOD: Books were always treasured above anything else. That said, I had this metal windup duck that I loved. I do believed I trashed mine, removing the cap that spun around, etc. But I have since found another, which I have kept in better shape.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all! I didn't want t get out of bed this morning. It just seemed better buried under a lot of blankets than being out in the world today. i have things to accomplish, so I forced myself to get moving. The weather is supposed to be bad, so I'm happy to stay in.
No word from my doctor, which concerns me, since I would like my physical therapy which ends tomorrow to be extended.
DR cillaliz, if I won the mega millions, I have a lot of things I'd like to do, beginning with a long list of recordings I'd like to make before I keel over and ending with helping my friends and family. I need enough to live on, and the rest would go to various projects and to a lot of charities and schools.
I must go to the market and buy my tickets for tonight. And milk.
DR singdaw, he's been bald for years.
-
How can it be this cold? :(
-
Nice tree DR Ginny!
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Cold and dreary here in SW Ohio and more snow is predicted for this afternoon/evening. Guess I'd better get my errands done earlier rather than later!
-
DR George - to answer your question of last night: I have the latest Kindle; the one that was released around Thanksgiving. I just love it!
I think I have owned every Kindle model, at one time or another (except the Fire tablets). I love to read, so that is my present to myself.
What do you do with your old kindles? I know some people who have quite a few of them.
-
I am a bit flabbergasted by the current New York City weather. While other areas of the state have had snow, NYC has been relatively snow-free for the past few years. Perhaps we're going the other direction now?
-
Well, DR Jennifer - at the moment they're lying around, cluttering up the place. :P
-
TOD - I'm sure I had Colorforms, but it's been too long ago to remember specifically which set. Paper dolls were some of my favorite playthings - one set of those I remember were the Lennon Sisters.
-
Meanwhile, in Norway...
-
Due to class cancellations and school closings today, evening school activities are also cancelled and I don't have to schlep anywhere for tonight's concert.
:) Yay!! :)
To make it up, they'll just add one performance to tomorrow's fare, which is totally fine by me.
-
(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a532/singdaw1/davidcassidycolorforms_zpsc4f88d47.jpg)
-
My sisters had some BARBIE Colorforms - and I think there was also an Annette Funicello Colorform set....
My favorite toy was BLOCK CITY! I would design a house, and then I would build it! I still have a box of the blocks...under my bed.
-
Page Two Block City Dance.
-
I enjoyed the Magic Piano from yesterday, How to Unwrap a Present, and the photo of DR GINNY's tree.
-
Good work news from DR ELMORE!
-
TOD:
Favorite toys were: a set of building blocks I got when I was around 3 or 4 years old; a small, stuffed, yellow bunny rabbit (which I still have); a Gumby figure which expired on my Aunt and Uncle's staircase when the wires started poking out of his legs; matchbox cars.
-
I thought the MegaMillions drawing was tomorrow night.....oh well.....
-
Lovely Christmas tree view, DR Ginny!
-
I do not recall if I had a Colorforms set or not. I know I wanted one (or several).
-
TOD add-ons:
Tinker Toys, Erector Sets, Silly Putty, and Hula Hoops.
Also, I forgot board games: Favorites were Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Chinese Checkers, Monopoly, and I'm probably forgetting another dozen or so. For cards, we played "Rummy" (I think it was a simple variation on Gin Rummy) and a number of others. Later, we got into Pinochle.
-
TOD:
I'm not familiar with Color forms. I guess they came after my childhood.
I do remember something that (in our house) we called "steering books". There would be a tab at the bottom of the page and, if you moved the tab, the characters on the page would move in a back/forth motion.
-
Ah, yes, board games! My favorites, which I still have, were Careers, Go to the Head of the Class, and The Barbie Game.
-
Sad to learn that actor Larry Pennell (star of tv series RIPCORD and played Dash Riprock on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES) passed away on August 28th.
-
A couple of people mentioned books. We loved and abused our copies of "Madeleine" and "The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge", both of which I still admire today for their artwork and their cosmopolitan/urban settings. Also, "The Wind in the Willows". "Little Black Sambo" (!).
For music, the "Golden Song Book", mightily abused and held together with layers of tape added over the years. I remember it from my earliest memorable ages, and it survived at least into my early teens.
-
Oh, I loved Chinese Checkers...also AGGREVATION, BATTLE SHIP, CONCENTRATION (based on the TV game show), THE GAME OF LIFE, and card games like GO FISH.
-
I do recall that I had a lot of stuffed animals when I was little and, one day, my mother decided that I had too many, so she called Good Will (or whatever was around at that time) and decided to donate some of them.
I was probably about four or five years old, and when the man came to take them away, I'm told that I said such a tearful goodbye to each and every one of the stuffed animals, my mother felt so guilty at what she had done that she went out and got me others to replace them.

Damn!
Larry was a former client and a friend. In fact, I wrote my Clark Gable play with him in mind to do the role.
He didn't do it, claiming he didn't want to smoke on stage, but I think he was really afraid of tackling a one-person play.
He was a great guy.
-
I have a vague memory of colorforms, but I don't think we had them
-
Mrs. Beasley was my favorite doll. I carried her around for a year or two. She even went to school with me one day, probably first grade and got to sit in a chair next to my desk
-
She's actually on the book case next to my bed now :)
-
We had all sorts of toys at our house. I'll have to think about which were my favorite
-
I bought my mega millions tickets. Fingers are crossed! I need to bail my dad's company out of trouble, keep my family afloat, help out some friends in need, invest in a few friends' companies and projects, begin a lot of college scholarships, and record about 30-35 complete shows. That would make me very happy.
-
I have no memory of toys except for board games and lots of books and comic books, which my mother threw out when I went to college. There was a fortune in comics and she was completely inconsiderate and a fool. I can only write off so much of her lunacy.

-
As soon as you win the lottery, DR Elmore, I will fly out to NYC and help you
spend manage it. Because that is the kind of friend I am.
-
I did, DR elmore3003 - and thank you kindly!
-
Does anyone else have any Christmas concerts or shows coming up this weekend? I enjoy reading about them....

It is so cold here and we have plenty of snow. I think I'll just stay home today and of course at some point watch a movie.
The other night the hubby and I watched THE IMPOSSIBLE.
I thought it was very good., Rate 8/10
-
I'm up, I'm up - didn't get to sleep until after two, so a little over eight hours.
-
I have several movies from the library to watch.
They are as follows:
DISCLOSURE
BRIDESHEAD REVISTED
HIGH CRIMES
THE CAT'S MEOW
DANGEROUS LIAISONS
GOSFORD PARK ( I saw, rate 8/10)
I also renewed MIDNIGHT IN PARIS. I Already saw it and want to watch again. I love it!
-
I had a few of these over the years - I used to enjoy the smell of the burning wood but I don't know what they actually did.
-
Has anyone seen PHILOMENIA AND SAVINGS MR BANKS.
I Know BK saw SAVINGS MR BANKS.
-
PAGE 3!!!!
-
Yes BK, I remember the wood burning Kits.
-
Goodby for now
-
Round one errands done! Bought my customary 2 small poinsettias and brought them home out of the cold. I'm grabbing some lunch before heading out for round 2.
-
Boy, there's something I haven't remembered in years. Wood burning kits. Had a couple of those.
-
Manhattan today!
The view from DR Elmore's penthouse aerie!
Yes, the third floor penthouse.
DR MBarnum, if I win the lottery, I'm going going to learn who the Henry Willson of Bollywood is and send him a lot of money to hire you as a full time advisor.
-
ChristmasUp the Holler director DJ and I have a date to see SAVING MR BANKS on Saturday.

Taking Lite Brite to the next level:
Wow! Some people (a Sondheim reference ;)) just have too much time on their hands!
-
This Last supper reminds me of my landlady when I was a grad student living at a Miami University apartment complex called Block M. She collected Last Suppers - knitted, crocheted, jigsaw puzzle, tile, painted by number, ashtray, plate, cup, saucer, you name it - and I loved to go pay my rent just to marvel over the collection. They were everywhere!
She had a mouth as bad as mine, but she always tried to talk genteely with me: "I told them bastar - er, darned kids that the fuckin - er, swimmin' pool wouldn't be ready until May and to keep their fat asse - to stay out of it until then."
She was a complete hoot, straight out of a John Waters movie!
-
Second round of errands done! We now have groceries and my car has a full tank of gas.
-
Funny story, DR Elmore!

I hadn't thought of her in years. I'm glad I've got her back in my head for the memoirs.

From DR Singdaw:
Good for you, DR Jane! Quite impressive.
Thank you.
Thanks to DR Jennifer's curiosity and prompting I took a guess as to how many books I normally read and accepted the Goodreads challenge.
-
DR Singdaw when I purchased my Nook HD I had them download the Goodreads aap for me. I haven't figured out, or it doesn't do everything as my regular link to them.
-
DR Cilla, VIBES THE INSURANCE COMPANY ACCEPTS YOUR DEMANDS!
-
DR TCB I have a book wish list at my eBook library, on Goodreads, and a small one at Barnes and Noble. The one at B & N is a small list with only books my library doesn't carry.
-
DR Cilla I like what you would do with your lottery winnings. I would make very nice donations to my favorite charities and your will be on my list.
-
TOD: Books were always treasured above anything else. That said, I had this metal windup duck that I loved. I do believed I trashed mine, removing the cap that spun around, etc. But I have since found another, which I have kept in better shape.

Ah, yes, board games! My favorites, which I still have, were Careers, Go to the Head of the Class, and The Barbie Game.
I had all of those and as much as I hated Barbie dolls I liked the game very much. You still have it, cool!

Whatever you do, do NOT watch TOY STORY 3, DR Druxy! :)
-
Thank you, everyone. I hadn't seen this particular friend in many years, but he was always an overachiever in school and went to school to be a pharmacist....then succumbed to the evils of drugs and alcohol.... I had heard he had turned his life around, but my brother was not sure that was the case....
-
When I was growing up between 8 years old and 12 years old, we lived way OUT in the country.....so there was no way to get to a library....and of course there were no home computers.
Board games and records were our great time passers.....and writing away for photos from movie stars and waiting on the mail. We loved Chinese Checkers, Clue, Monopoly, Careers, and of course card games.
We also liked flip sides of records, because some of them were instrumentals, and we would make up lyrics to the songs and sing them.....
-
That is quite a story DR DRUXY.....but a hard way to get new stuffed animals.
-
Nice interview with Julie and Richard Sherman in USA TODAY if you can get past the annoying video at the top of the page.

I'm sorry to hear this about both Jrand's and Richard's classmates. :(
Richard and I were classmates and when I saw the photo of the deceased with the obituary, I had no idea who she was!
-
Had some chicken tenders, which, after one bite, I sent back - they were just yucky - a first. Instead I had a ham and Swiss on rye and no fries or onion rings. I picked up two packages and when I returned home there were more screeners here, including August: Osage County, which I'll watch this evening, and also The Butler, and Philomena. Love getting these.

We took a little pre-dinner drive in the snow, because I'd tried for about 90 minutes to call my Mom and gotten a busy signal. That usually means she's left one of her portable phones on when she's moved to her "good" phone, but at her age it could also mean a lot of other things. We were about halfway there when I finally got through and she said, "You don't need to come out here - I'm fine!" We'll see her tomorrow when my cousin from Georgia and his fiancé come to visit.

I don't remember Midge or friends, only Ken. I found Barbie unattractive and didn't understand the fuss about her.
-
DR Ginny I'm glad your mother is fine and that you reached her before you drove all the way there.
-
While I'm mentioning things I hate, sorry DR TCB but I hate Mr Magoo and always have. He was my introduction to A CHRISTMAS CAROL and I had no idea how wonderful the book was. I'm grateful I read it in spite of Mr Magoo.
I really didn't like most cartoons when I was a child.

Great Ohio story.

DR Cilla, VIBES THE INSURANCE COMPANY ACCEPTS YOUR DEMANDS!
Thanks Jane. They never accept the first offer, but that's standard so the first offer has to be high. It's a stupid game, but it is what it is.
-
DR Cilla I like what you would do with your lottery winnings. I would make very nice donations to my favorite charities and your will be on my list.
Why thank you. I got my ticket tonight at the grocery store. There must be a lot of school programs going on because there were almost no people in the store at 6:15 PM. I felt like there was a citywide party and I didn't get an invitation.
-
Ah, yes, board games! My favorites, which I still have, were Careers, Go to the Head of the Class, and The Barbie Game.
We had all of those. I loved Monopoly, Risk, Stratego, Battleship .....actually there aren't very many I don't like

-
Had a nice and unexpected visit from Mr. Nick Redman.
-
Jane, how could you not love Magoo ?
Easily, plus I had to watch him every year with my sister-groan! I found Magoo rude and annoying.
I mostly liked westerns. I watched some cartoons. Mighty Mouse and Tom & Jerry were my favorites. I watched The Jetson's & The Flintstones but they weren't my favorite shows. I liked the Disney movies but not Mickey and the gang so much.

At times I had to work hard to separate Jim Backus from Magoo.
-
Mr. Magoo, you've done it again

Well, I survived our two-minute tap routine. Then they brought on the high school kids who were stellar.
You know, I never did recitals or anything like that as a kid. Why am I doing it now?

I was going to leave early today and go to The Book Thief before it leaves at the end of the week. But....my shades were delivered to the office and that changed things. I came home and installed the kitchen and downstairs bathroom shades. I forgot how to do it so it was a bit of a struggle on the first one. The second went very smoothly, but my shoulder got tired, so I decided to do a few every day until I'm done. I really need to paint several window sills, lol. I'll save installing the upstairs den until I finish painting it. My project for my vacation

That's great that they arrived.
I discovered today that my Christmas present from my sister, which the postal service said was delivered, is not in my possession. So, what happened to it? Did someone take it from my mailbox?
-
Where did they say it was delivered? Was it your address? My mom had a package delivered to someone in Kansas. They actually tracked it down, got it back from her and delivered it to my mom. It was worth the call

Actually when I tracked my order last night it said they weren't leaving the factory until Dec. 23.

The address on the slip was my address. So, maybe they can trace it.

Well, I must and needs say good night. Up early again tomorrow for a morning and two (count'em) evening performances at the high school. Tomorrow's the last of it. Probably ketchup for a bit in the afternoon.

I'm going to be in Los Angeles for a couple of book signings. On Saturday, December 21, at 2 pm, I will be at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, signing copies of both BASIL RATHBONE and DRACULA MEETS JACK THE RIPPER and Other Revisionist Histories. Then, on Sunday (22), also at 2 pm, I'll be in Glendale at the Mystery and Imagination Bookstore, signing copies of LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD, so if you're in town, please come to one or the other...if not both.

Did you buy your ticket?? (I didn't ::)). Anyway, here are the Mega-jackpot Mega Millions winning numbers: 8, 14, 17, 20, 39 — Mega Ball 7 (http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/12/17/21945715-mega-jackpot-mega-millions-winning-numbers-8-14-17-20-39-mega-ball-7?lite)!
Those were the winning numbers drawn late Tuesday in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery. If there's a single winning ticket, it's worth a top prize that's second only to a $656 million jackpot that was divided three ways in March 2012.
And if there are no winners and the jackpot rolls over yet again, it could approach or even top the once-unthinkable $1 billion barrier for Friday's drawing, Mega Millions officials have said.
...
The $636 million — before taxes — is on the table only if a winner or winners is willing to spread the payments out over 30 years. If it's taken all at once, it's worth "only" $341 million.
-
If I won that (at my age now), I certainly would take it out over time!
But...I didn't buy a ticket, so no use even dreaming about it. ;)

Round one errands done! Bought my customary 2 small poinsettias and brought them home out of the cold. I'm grabbing some lunch before heading out for round 2.
I tried to do some Christmas shopping today, but there were too many cars and too few parking spots. I was already worn out when I got into the stores. I just had to turn around and leave. I just don't have the strength.
-
When I went to mail a couple of packages today at lunch, I witnessed a two-car accident. Neither party seemed injured, but it was ugly. One car, driven by an elderly lady, had its fender practically ripped off. She seemed to be pushing it as she drove to get out of the street. Not a great thing to have to witness.

I'm off to bed. Good night, all.

DR TCB I have a book wish list at my eBook library, on Goodreads, and a small one at Barnes and Noble. The one at B & N is a small list with only books my library doesn't carry.
I guess I was thinking it would be Goodreads, but I couldn't remember the name of it.

Well, I've FINALLY finished the last of the evaluations for my staff. Tomorrow, I find out what my supervisor thinks of me and my work. :o
Anyway, I'm leaving and going home. Be back later!

The winning ticket was sold in San Jose California

We had to let go of our dear dog Toby just about a half hour ago. He was 13 years and 7 months old, which they say is about 94 in human years.
