Good morning, all!  I am definitely coming down with something, and I hope it's only a cold. I slept quite poorly last night and debated staying in bed all day.  I'll pour on the vitamin C, stay warmly dressed, and think healthy.

The Sherman Brothers and Disney bashing continues on both the Cast Recording List and FB, and I'm losing a bit of respect with several folk I've had much respect for.  It's funny: thanks to the Sondheim cult, even his dreck is regarded as High Art, and shows that should remain buried are presented in half-assed productions as the second coming of Jesus. But for some reason, a film about a rude, unpleasant P.L. Travers - who clearly had a complete set of psychological problems packed in some heavy emotional baggage - and her battle with Disney is regarded as lies, pandering to promote a 50 year-old film and a studio supporting a pack of bullies, plagiarists and thugs.  After watching the film again, I believe Ms Travers should have thanked Disney for giving the series of incidents in her books a good screenplay, taken the money, and kept her mouth shut.  The film could also have been called SAVING MRS TRAVERS' BANK ACCOUNT.

It's all ridiculous and ugly.

Healthy vibes for DR ELMORE.

Yes, I believe Dame Julie Andrews was quoted last week as saying: "I am sure Mrs. Travers cried all the way to the bank."

I guess since Target shunned Beyonce's album, she decided to visit a Walmart and give everyone in the store a Christmas present.

Walmart's on some sort of promotional ride, with Sound of Music, Garth Brooks album and now this.

It bought a couple of Travers' books in Spanish. One was Mary Poppins en el Parque. Her name was on the book, but so was Julie Andrews' face.

Happy Sunday, All!

I'm savoring the Jonathon Schwartz Christmas show this morning via the internet. JRB posted about it, and so far, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Christine Ebersole have been guests on it, as well as some stunning musicians. it goes for another hour I think.

And... thanks to the character being added to David Lee's revised "Can Can", I found my name on the Wikipedia page of the famous French fartiste, Le Pétomane... ever linked to  musical fartitude. And I thank you.  :P

Is there anything one can do if you had a package delivered ("Left on door step"), but you never received it?  Unfortunately, I bought it with a debit card instead of a credit card.  UPS says they dropped it off at my door step at 10:38 on Wednesday.  I would have been in the bathroom getting ready for the Old Actors lunch.  When I left an hour later there was nothing at my door.  Delivery robbery has been a serious problem this year in Seattle and Tacoma.

I didn't think that UPS was allowed to simply leave a package at the door. Especially if you were home. I would definitely call UPS to complain. I mean if you didn't get it.

Is it possible that a neighbor thought that you were out and took it in for you?

I've been up since ten-thirty.  Stayed in bed until the house heated up, and pondered how I wanted to respond to two slightly irritating e-mails I got this morning.  I responded as I needed to, I think, but probably could have written softer versions.  But, one has to say what one feels.

I really dislike UPS for this behavior. I think I mentioned coming home to find the new TV sitting next to the door in a huge box with a giant picture of the TV on the outside. If they had written "Steal me" on the side, it would have been about the same.

UPS used to have a default of $100 for this problem. I had an incident many years ago in Alexandria, VA. They claimed they delivered a package. I was home and saw and heard nothing. It was around the holidays, too, I think. The contents were worth far more than $100, but at least it was something.

UPS deliveries are sometimes sloppy, but those drivers have to really hustle--they never stop. A bit more common sense would help.

I had an enormous to-do list for this past fall. Full of fun stuff like dental visits and car repair, often multiple times. I wasn't able to get it all done; some of it was pushed to January and some will wait until I can do it. I'm very glad to get done what I did, though. I don't know how much longer the car would have run--or my computer. I'm now finishing up one or two Christmas things and look forward to some much-needed R&R.

Went out to a fundraiser to benefit the husband of the woman who died recently that I told you about, Barbara Wolfe. Great event. Lots of local musicians playing and beer/burgers both donated, so they were included in your $20 admission, all of which will go to Steve. Steve was well enough to attend (he's been waiting for a year for a kidney transplant). I think they raised about $3,000.

And they were HUGE in preview. Now they are tiny.

We had french toast this morning and then went for a nice long walk.  Our road still has some snow but it was fine.

I have also ironed.  I save it up until I have enough to make it work getting the ironing board out, but not too much as my shoulder can't handle it.  I had too much this time-ow well.  It feels good to have it done.

I thought the one for THE WINTER'S TALE looked really good. Now I want to read the Helprin novel.

I read "Winter's Tale" when it first came out in paperback.  If well done the movie should be very pretty to watch.

I started to read this when I was in high school.  It went over my head.  I just didn't get it.  Probably if I read it now it would be great, but then, I couldn't get through it.

UPS leaves packages all the time.

It was UPS that left Bryan's package near the trash, and Kate was home all day.

I'm lucky that I can have things delivered to my work.  I've never had anything lost...only a couple of things from Amazon.fr (France) were returned.  BK had the same experience.  Fortunately, the Blu-rays of "Cherbourg" and "Rochefort" arrived.

Very nice!

Yesterday, I worked concessions for "The Nutcracker" and then went to my friend Pug's house for her annual Yule Fest.  It was the first time that I had gone.  I've otherwise been to many of Pug's regular parties, so it really wasn't much different.  A good time was had by all...lots of food, chatting and more food and more chatting.

I've been home and I'm just watching TV.  Last night, I happened to be watching TCM when Victor Herbert's "Sweethearts" started, so I recorded it.  I just burned a DVD of it, but I happened to be on the hi-def channel.  When I record a hi-def program onto a standard DVD, the 4:3 image is window-boxed...it has a black frame around all four sides.  But I can zoom in so it's not horrible, but if I had recorded the regular def channel, it would fill the screen normally.  This isn't my TV, but it's what it looks like:

I really dislike UPS for this behavior. I think I mentioned coming home to find the new TV sitting next to the door in a huge box with a giant picture of the TV on the outside. If they had written "Steal me" on the side, it would have been about the same.

It's odd because if you want them to leave a package then they make a huge deal about needing to leave permission attached to the door. Yet you guys who clearly don't want your stuff left have it left.

I'm surprised that they would ship a tv without "signature required".

Plus I would have phoned UPS for that and gotten that driver disciplined. I mean who would leave a tv out on the street?

When I was in Costa Rica back in 1980, Maritza (my college roommate) and her brothers took me to Las Fiestas.  There are bull fights (they try to ride the bull, not kill it) and there are carnival booths.   We won about 12 bottles of ronmpope.  Egg nog.  I sipped it for 10 days.  So now every time I have egg nog I remember being in Costa Rica
