Good morning, all! I am awake nd moving, but I wanted to stay buried under the blankets where I was dreaming thatI was about to watch a performance of "The Golden Apple."

This morning, I have physical therapy, and following that, I will return here and begin the final round of LITTLE ME. I also need to drag out all of my blank music papers and decide what to use for this choral piece.

Then, I need to ponder setting up this Blu-Ray player.

We get Antenna TV over the air on our brand new 32 inch flat-screen HD tv (720pi). It works beautifully and we are very happy with our new acquisition.

We get 67 channels over the antenna, though many of them are foreign language or overtly religious so I just take those out of the channel listing.

Because my mind is a whirling and twirling, I was up at six-thirty.  I just stayed in bed, but then found I had to get to the bank at nine, which I did.  That's done and now we're thirty minutes away from the long rehearsal day.  I did futz and fix yesterday's pages, but I basically liked them and the way they flowed.  I added a paragraph and changed a few words, and now can move on later tonight.

I know it is early to rant but

Three actors that agreed to do the reading of the play back out yesterday. Based on recommendations from some of the other actors I think I have replacements.

I know its a non paying gig but I did give you several months notice.

Commitments don't seem to mean diddly squat to people any more, especially actors.  They will keep you on the hook, just in case nothing else comes along, but if it does - they are gone like a shot!

I have always thought that the film version of DESK SET improved greatly on the stage version....and in fact I think the stage version would be a community theatre staple if it had been the same story.

HOWEVER in the stage version....Tracy's character is not the male lead....and in fact Bunny does end up with Mike.

I think that this is one of Gig Young's best performances - along with TEACHER'S PET - and I wish he had been the third wheel with Doris and Rock in PILLOW TALK, LOVER COME BACK, and SEND ME NO FLOWERS....especially the first two....  Tony Randall was never a threat to Rock Hudson, but Gig would have made it a more difficult choice....

It has started snowing again in Louisville, according to my folks.

Dad was all set to go in and have a colonoscopy today. At least he thought he was. He should have known better when they didn't give him that horrible stuff to drink. Anyway, he went in expecting to have to take the test and was told that since he was 85, he no longer had to have one. He's very happy now.

A 1776 reference...Letter Tied to Fight for Independence Is Found in Museum’s Attic (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/02/nyregion/letter-tied-to-fight-for-independence-is-found-in-museums-attic.html) (the bold section is my emphasis):

Quote
Until Ms. Gruchow found it, only the final, printed version from July 1775 had been known to exist. She consulted with Michael D. Hattem, a teaching fellow and research assistant on The Papers of Benjamin Franklin at Yale. He analyzed the handwriting on the yellowed pages of the manuscript and did textual analysis that led to an unexpected conclusion: The document was written by Robert R. Livingston, a prominent New York jurist who had been on the fence about whether to support independence for the colonies.

The following year, Congress tapped Livingston to draft the Declaration of Independence along with Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Roger Sherman.
Livingston went on to swear in Washington as the first president. Other historians who have reviewed the document Ms. Gruchow found say her discovery explains why he was chosen. It could also change the perception of Livingston’s role in the push for independence because it had always been assumed that the document at the mansion was the work of another prominent colonial figure, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.

As if having a great rehearsal with the most talented kids wasn't candy enough, I then spent an hour with Richard Sherman polishing the song we've written together - what fun! I don't really collaborate as a songwriter, but this was just too irresistible and the back-and-forth with Richard was just so exhilarating. And the song is really catchy and positive - that was what I ultimately wanted in the lyric I gave him and he added a few things, I added a few more, and he did a wonderful Sherman tune, which we then finessed together.

Almost all our singers are getting over colds so I'm loading up on Cold-eez and Airborne just to be safe.  Must now go eat something before I fall over.

Popping in from the blizzard city of Portland, Maine to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!

The trip here took 26 hours: one delayed flight, a 5 hour airport wait, then a cancelled connection causing a hotel stay in Newark (dear diary), had me landing in time for first rehearsal with next to no sleep. Yesterday was a blessed catch up day, where I was mostly walking comatose. And now it's minus 3 degrees and already about 8 inches of snow today. Other than that, everything's great!  :P

Back to study here. I hope everyone's having a warm and happy first week of the new year.

I quite like Portland, Maine. The Maine coast has such rugged beauty. The town's a bit funky, but also charming. Granted, mine was a summer trip. Lots of good restaurants and a good art museum.

Did you purchase an HDMI cable? You need it to connect the box to your HD Flat Screen television (Roku 3 boxes only work with HD televisions). And if you don't have wifi in your apartment you need an ethernet cable to plug the box into your modem. If you do have wifi you don't need the ethernet, you just need to know the name of your wifi network and the password. Once it's connected to your television, you just follow the prompts and you're done in a matter of minutes. You can watch Netflix and other paid streaming movie services or you can find the hundreds of free channels/networks with games, movies, television shows and other ephemera.

Ben or elmore is there snow in the city?

There is indeed snow. I can't see how much. Tomorrow, I may limp out and take a short stroll.  Now I'm off to bed.

Since I had a holiday gift card, I decided to use it to buy a Roku 3.  Now I have my very own, brand new Roku 3 sitting next to be desk.  I have not the slightest idea what to do with it.

I hear they make good paper weights.

Maybe that is it.  Everyone said I would love it once I got it.

Have you tried hooking it up to you TV?

Hopefully, you will. Maybe Cilla can set it up for you when she brings the pizza.

I just saw a helpful hint - to keep your pizza warm on the way home, set it on the passenger seat and turn on the seat warmer.  It would have to stay warm a long time to drive it to TCB

I think I'm going to sign off and read my book and maybe go to bed early.  After reading Vixmom's Panera post, I made myself a nice big mug of hot cocoa with milk not water and it was yummy and warm....and made me a bit sleepy

I wrote a half a page before I left and shall now try really hard to write another three or four - on days this long that's really difficult.

I didn't know that I needed an HDMI cable until I got home, so I will get that tomorrow.  I am glad you told me that I won't need an Ethernet cable if I have WIFI.

Watched the Heat. I laughed a few times.

Now I'm watching the beginning of Midnight's Children, which is based on one of my favorite Salman Rushdie novels. Great images of India, but too much of the story feels cramped into a 2:30 timeframe. Still, I'm enjoying it.

Chas, do you have snow?

Looks like around three inches so far.  I ain't going out there to find out.

I thought we'd have more, but though it's a light snowfall, we're only halfway through this thing.  However, I shan't be disappointed if we don't break any records.  The less time I'm out there cleaning up this stuff in these temperatures, the nicer life will be.

I watched about forty-five minutes of a motion picture - about two minutes in I fell asleep for forty minutes, then I watched the other forty-three.  I've written a little over five pages and actually finished chapter one.  I'll probably go back and add just a couple more things, but on to chapter two tomorrow.

Midnight's Children was a great surprise. Rushdie found a way to tell his story in a cinematic language that was not too faithful to the book and yet it stayed true to the spirit of the novel.

And it kept me up way past midnight.

Of course, that hint assumes that one even has seat warmers. ::)
