Well, you've read the notes, the notes laid the notes on the table, and now it is time for you to post until the card-playing cows come home.

Last weekend of rehearsals for our production of the one-act I NEVER MISS A LARRY KRAMER MUSICAL (a parody chat with "Bette Midler") - our tech and first performance are on Tuesday Feb. 25.  Where did the time go?

Trying to post our postcard image, which is here at this like, but having trouble - and rehearsals have truly been a blast, in all good ways:

Morning, all!

Happy birthday, DR Matthew!

Recovery vibes, Singdaw!

I don't know if anyone here is or was into the NYC cabaret scene, but I just found out the sad news that Erv Raible, who owned and/or booked talent at many of the legendary piano bars here, just passed away. I hadn't seen him for many years, and apparently he had been sick for a while, but it's a sad day for me.

Tomorrow, I have an actress friend and two of her actor friends coming over to my house to read aloud my new 3-person stage play.

This is a Hollywood story that I've been wanting to tell, in one form or another, for over 30 years.

I'm wondering how my dog, Chester, will react when the actress arrives tomorrow.

Chester used to be her dog (for 3 years), but he didn't play well with her other animals, so she and her husband gave him to my wife and I.

Chester has not seen his former owner for over a year.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Good morning, all! I slept too late. When I got out of bed, I thought the clock said 8:45, and I thought, that wasn't so late. It was actually 9:45, and I slept far too long. I don't have much to do today, but it's all centered about the apartment. It's time to launder the bedding, finish the choral arrangement orchestration.

DR singdaw, I hope you are okay. Oral surgery can be painful, but you've been through the war. Speaking from experience with periodontal work and my six months of gimpdom, I hope the pain meds are fantastic and of the highest quality!

Boy, everybody and his mother wants to come to the sessions this week. I have to be exclusive because:

From DR Singdaw:

Quote
Oy!  Well, today was a day. I had a dental appointment at 8:30am, which was supposed to be a simple prep for a crown. It turned out there was decay going down into the roots - the tooth had to be removed. Despite the dentist's best efforts, he couldn't get out the roots. So this afternoon, I was in an oral surgeon's chair. He ended up having to make an incision in my gum, as well as removing part of my jaw bone, in order to get those roots out. I'm not in such great shape right now, but I have some wonderful drugs.

OMG this sounds horrible!!!

HEALING & PAIN REDUCED VIBES!!!!!

DR Elan, thanks for your post about Erv Raible. So many of my FB friends were posting nice comments about him and I had no idea what he did or who he was.

Erv was co-owner (along with Karen Miller and Rochelle Seldin) of Eighty-Eights, the piano bar to which I owe whatever sanity I had in my early 20s, as well as where The Lovely Wife(tm) and I hung out at before we started dating. It is hardly exaggerating to say that I owe my marriage and children to him.

The San Antonio Symphony has got some fun planned for the fall. They move into a new expanded and refurbished center with Renee Fleming as the opener. After her appearance at Super Bowl, I'm sure that will sell a few tickets. The biggie for me, though, is they're doing Mahler's No. 2 Symphony in October. Can't wait to see that, hear it live for the first time.

You'll love that.  There's nothing like hearing a Mahler symphony live.

Of course I'd say that about a few other composers, too!  :)   The best recordings in the world still can't quite deliver what some of that really sounds like, and feels like.

I am curious what other DRs thought about yesterday's women's figure skating long program??  Especially the scores for the top 3.

The placements for the long program were mostly correct.   However, I do not believe they were correct in the short program.  Adelina Sotnikova was scored way too high for her technically "light" short program.  And where did those high component (artistry/presentation) scores come from for her?

Someone on the internet today suggested Mao Asada's rise from 16th to 6th was a gift based on her reputation.  I took exception to the remark.  She skated a brilliant long program filled with grace, artistry and technical sophistication.  She leapfrogged over lesser skaters for her final placement.  She earned it, IMO.

Ashley Wagner takes herself way too seriously, IMO.  She scares me a bit.  I also don't enjoy watching her skate.  I'm thinking the judges find her a bit much, as well.

I don't think Sotnikova came anywhere NEAR matching Carolina Kostner's component elements and a "fair" assessment of the former's skate would likely have seen the same three on top but in different positions.

The only time that I've been to NYC was in December of 1995.  It was a tour with a group of theater folk and one night, a bunch of us went to Eighty-Eights!  We sang and chatted and had a great time.  I actually recognized one of the bartenders from the videorecording of "Nunsense"...Terri White!!  I asked if she was Terri White from "Nunsense" and she said, "yes."  I grabbed one of the Eighty-Eights table-top card ads and asked if I could get her autograph.  She was so sweet and signed the card for me.  I still have it! ;D

Looking forward to hear about this, DR Druxy!

Well, here's something unusual...do any of you know of the "The Hansen Treasury of Stephen Sondheim Songs"?  It was probably one of the earliest Sondheim songbooks published, but someone on eBay is selling a copy for only $454.00 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Hansen-Treasury-of-Stephen-Sondheim-Songs-Piano-Guitar-Voice-/390780333668).  And I'm sure a bargain at twice the price. :o

I have this!  And I'm not selling...maybe. ;)

MEGA RECOVERY VIBES TO SINGDAW!!

That is very similar to what happened to me when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, except that the dentist was expecting problems and sent me directly to the oral surgeon. My roots were badly tangled and he had to remove some of my jaw bone. I was in bed for a week. But that was all four wisdom teeth. I do hope your recovery is much speedier.

I, too, spent yesterday at the dentist. I'd been having some twinges of pain on the lower right, but also had shingles and had to wait until I was well enough to have dental work. I had an old crown in the area of the twinges and knew it might be the culprit. I was really dreading the visit, as my previous two crown replacements had really knocked me out. It went as well as this sort of thing can. I'm still worn out from it, but not like the previous visits. This dentist is a holistic dentist and gave me Rescue Remedy before drilling and also uses only biocompatible materials. Did that make the difference? Difficult to say, but I'm relieved it's over, even though I'm $$$ poorer.

Yesterday's TOD (Hitchcock):

First must have been the TV shows.

Favorites used to be THE 39 STEPS, THE LADY VANISHES, and REAR WINDOW. REAR WINDOW is still a favorite, but I also love many others.

I didn't see THE BIRDS until well into adulthood. My dad worked on it and I heard many stories while it was being filmed, which sort of spoiled it for me, as I was a jaded teenager. As an adult, I was quite impressed with how well it worked and liked it much better than I expected.

One thing I find very strange: whenever we visited other family members, my dad and uncle (Ed Fitzgerald) would talk shop. I had no interest in what my mother and aunt discussed (mostly gossip); I always gravitated to my dad and my uncle. I heard countless stories from Eddie about LASSIE (he was the DP) and THE GALE STORM SHOW (OH, SUSANNA!) and how certain stars demand to be shot from certain angles. It wasn't until a few years before my dad died--and long after Eddie had--that my dad mentioned that Eddie had worked for Hitchcock. My dad thought it was two films, but couldn't recall which ones. Eddie's camera work on THE ROPE is documented on the IMDB. If there was more, I don't know what it was.

In those days, in a family that worked in motion pictures and television, it was another day at the office. i so wish more had been documented, as most of my family members are gone and took many facts and stories with them. But, mostly, I'm surprised that  Eddie's work with Hitchcock wasn't mentioned.

This morning I saw a poster on FB for a missing girl, Amy Hamilton.  Something about it didn't seem right.  I have now researched and sure enough it is a hoax.  It is such an easy thing to google a name before sharing missing people as fact.  Slicking on the photo for any missing person or pet will often show that they have been found.

I'm getting ready for my midday appointment with my cardiologist.  Looking forward to getting the results of my Feb. 4 stress test.  Paramedic Rob assured me that if it had shown anything suspicious I'd have heard from them before now.

If Rob is wrong than I suggest you protest loudly because that is exactly how it should work.

Not having watched the competition this year I don't have an opinion on the scoring.  I am disappointed more hasn't been discussed concerning the fact Ashley Wagner used a derogatory racial slur against Gypsies when she said “I feel gypped.”

Yes, I realize she probably has no idea how hurtful that comment is to Gypsies who are poorly treated.

I only remember 2 times when my blood pressure was NOT low -  once, during the week in 2003 when Richard and my Mother both had outpatient surgery, Richard retired, and I assumed new job responsibilities.  And, in 2010, when I was riding to the hospital in an ambulance having a heart attack.

He's concerned because it's lower than low and my heart rate is, too.  Because of the heart attack, I have to take a beta blocker, but he's prescribed a different one to replace the one I've been on for 3 & a half years.

Vibes the new beta blocker works better!!!  It is good your new doctor is trying different approaches.

For years I carried my blood pressure numbers in my wallet.  I stopped when they went up us.  I began after hearing a woman I knew talk about having to stop the doctors at the emergency room from giving her husband drugs to raise is blood pressure which was where it normally was and unrelated to the emergency.

George, the original concept for the movie was like The Bad News Bears in the west.  It was very hokey and jokey, with way too many characters, no focused leads, too much screenwriting 101, and it just didn't work for me at all.  It might have way back when, but I just went in a whole other direction with the book - it does have one character that, for me, and certainly for a few of the folks who've read it, is very funny and there are assorted laughs, but it's not a comedy.

I'm watching a nice backstage film about London in the 1930s, These Foolish Things, which is based on a Noel Langley novel There's A Porpoise Close Behind Us. Langley was one of the 1937 WIZARD OF OZ screenwriters. The film's about the daughter of a stage star trying to make it and her romance with a director and a playwright and it reminds me a bit of [i[Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day[/i] and Being Julia.

I cannot believe that  Sotnikova won. It makes no sense to me. Kurt Browning (one of the announcers in Canada) was in shock. He likes her well enough (as do I). But he thought that her artistry was no where near the others. Plus she stumbled.

I thought that Yuma Kim was wonderful. I was shocked that she was rated 5 points lower than the Russian. I am sad the kid Russian fell. I much prefer her style of skating to the girl who won.

BK, I'm really curious as to what your original movie concept was, and how it was changed to become the book that you just finished.

Don't know if this has been answered yet. But I am curious as well.

DR Jennifer will appreciate this....

I switched insurance companies and they sent my new info and card in a plastic folder.  After just 1 minute looking at it and getting my new card out of it my lips itch, my throat is scratchy, and I have a headache.  I'm airing out the paperwork to look at later.

Oh no! :(

Work has been piling up lately and I've been stressed out trying to find some quiet time at the office to get work done.  I had a big project today and decided to go back to the office tonight.  I was there for about 3 1/2 hours and got the project done.  I feel really good about that. I'm going to work for several hours tomorrow too.  I think it will cut down on the stress I am feeling at not being able to get work done during the day due to the chaos.  Not complaining about the work, just wishing I had more hours in the day
