Well, here's something unusual...do any of you know of the "The Hansen Treasury of Stephen Sondheim Songs"?  It was probably one of the earliest Sondheim songbooks published, but someone on eBay is selling a copy for only $454.00.  And I'm sure a bargain at twice the price. :o

I have this!  And I'm not selling...maybe. ;)

I had a copy. I bought it around 1979. It's now sitting in my collection at the Miami University Library.

My copy should (hopefully, STILL) be in a box in my garage.  I had some boxes stolen a few years ago, but I'm pretty sure that only CDs and DVDs were taken.

Had a great conversation with Muse Margaret, who, as always, put something in perspective for me, which was very helpful.  Then I had a ham and Swiss on rye.  In about forty-five minutes I'll head over to LACC.

As for celebrating the entire weekend, I have a friend who has a birthday MONTH. What with schedule conflicts of various friends, he doesn't confine himself to a single day or even a week; he takes the whole month.

MEGA RECOVERY VIBES TO SINGDAW!!

That is very similar to what happened to me when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, except that the dentist was expecting problems and sent me directly to the oral surgeon. My roots were badly tangled and he had to remove some of my jaw bone. I was in bed for a week. But that was all four wisdom teeth. I do hope your recovery is much speedier.

I, too, spent yesterday at the dentist. I'd been having some twinges of pain on the lower right, but also had shingles and had to wait until I was well enough to have dental work. I had an old crown in the area of the twinges and knew it might be the culprit. I was really dreading the visit, as my previous two crown replacements had really knocked me out. It went as well as this sort of thing can. I'm still worn out from it, but not like the previous visits. This dentist is a holistic dentist and gave me Rescue Remedy before drilling and also uses only biocompatible materials. Did that make the difference? Difficult to say, but I'm relieved it's over, even though I'm $$$ poorer.

I'm looking forward to reading RED GOLD. Not really a fan of Westerns, but BK's approach will likely be a different one. In fact, I can't recall any Westerns that featured children, except as scenery.

BK, I'm really curious as to what your original movie concept was, and how it was changed to become the book that you just finished.

Yesterday's TOD (Hitchcock):

First must have been the TV shows.

Favorites used to be THE 39 STEPS, THE LADY VANISHES, and REAR WINDOW. REAR WINDOW is still a favorite, but I also love many others.

I didn't see THE BIRDS until well into adulthood. My dad worked on it and I heard many stories while it was being filmed, which sort of spoiled it for me, as I was a jaded teenager. As an adult, I was quite impressed with how well it worked and liked it much better than I expected.

One thing I find very strange: whenever we visited other family members, my dad and uncle (Ed Fitzgerald) would talk shop. I had no interest in what my mother and aunt discussed (mostly gossip); I always gravitated to my dad and my uncle. I heard countless stories from Eddie about LASSIE (he was the DP) and THE GALE STORM SHOW (OH, SUSANNA!) and how certain stars demand to be shot from certain angles. It wasn't until a few years before my dad died--and long after Eddie had--that my dad mentioned that Eddie had worked for Hitchcock. My dad thought it was two films, but couldn't recall which ones. Eddie's camera work on THE ROPE is documented on the IMDB. If there was more, I don't know what it was.

In those days, in a family that worked in motion pictures and television, it was another day at the office. i so wish more had been documented, as most of my family members are gone and took many facts and stories with them. But, mostly, I'm surprised that  Eddie's work with Hitchcock wasn't mentioned.

TOD:

CD: Lots of swing dancing music since we are instructing the brothers of Delta Upsilon this evening.  And of course Nancy Sinatra singing "Boots."

Wish I could join you for this. It sounds like fun.
