Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the cover art for Red Gold, and now it is time for you to post until the artful cows come home.

Well, it's the end of an era.  Last night, I got an e-mail from Capital Playhouse saying that they are no more.  They were a local community theater group that has been around for probably more than 25 years and put on some wonderful shows.  They owed $7500 in back rent AND another $64,502.22 in back taxes!  The IRS accepted "an Offer In Compromise"...the original debt owed was $220,000!! :o

Theater Artists Olympia was hoping to put on The Rocky Horror Show at their space.  We'll obviously have to make some other arrangements.  We did raise some money from Indiegogo.com, so we have to honor those pledges in some appropriate way.  There is a possibility to buy some of their equipment (any sales would go towards the IRS back taxes), so even though we don't have a lot of money to spend, we could help them a little...and help ourselves a bit, too.

Anyway, the very first shows that I performed in Olympia after I graduated from college were with Capital Playhouse (actually, their official name was "Capitol Playhouse '24" back then...yes, the '24 was part of their name...I don't know why).  I made some very good friends during that time and learned a LOT about acting, just by watching and doing.

They will be missed.

Good morning, all! I slept quite well, and I am ready to finish up ROBERTA this morning. I'll leave here around 9:30 and head to the studio.  i suspect we will finish up in early afternoon, hopefully before 2:00.

Yes, the cover is quite wonderful.

Sunday at 7 is turning out to be a tough sell, because it's Oscar night it seems, PLUS we're video-ing that night - so if anyone on HHW [or castrecl] wants a ticket (as the show's guest, that is), just email me by Thursday afternoon and I'll send you back a confirm that your ticket will be waiting for you.   It's a 30-minute one-act show, so should be plenty of time to get home for the Oscars if you're in NYC!

Congrats to DR FJL on his success!

Yes.....my Sunday rehearsal is supposed to end at 4 p.m. so I also have plenty of time to get home before the Academy Awards ceremony.

I am hopeful that I will win something this year....

Holy piano bar memories, Batman!

I'm sorry for not checking out your show in more detail, FJL. I've known and loved both your cast members for centuries, although I haven't seen them in ages. Jennifer Pace used to work at my beloved Eighty-Eights (and The Lovely Wife[tm] and I caught her "Every Goodbye is Hello" show there), and I remember Clare Cooper very fondly from the late (nearly as beloved) Rose's Turn. Her album "Valentine" is still pretty regularly played on Ye Olde iPod.

I don't know if they'd remember the goofy Jewish guy who used to sing Tom Lehrer songs, but please send my regards.

Great looking book cover art BK!

Ask BK Day:

Did you ever have the opportunity to meet and/or talk with Hugo Montenegro?

I am a big fan of what orchestrators/arrangers do and he was among the best.  To me, it's always fascinating to hear different arrangers, stylists, etc. take the same melody and each make it their own.  For example, I enjoy the numerous "takes" on "September Song" that have been recorded over the years.

We also have 4 eBook copies and I am now 7th on the queue.  You might very likely have a copy before I do.  Jo Nesbo's recently released book COCKROACHES that I was able to pre-request and am already 1/3 through it, my brother's Los Angeles library still doesn't have.  I would have thought a big system like that would have books sooner than our small one.  Often I get books before he does.

I currently only have the current book plus my March book for my discussion group checked out.  Maybe Fear will come in just as I finish these but I suspect that will be too soon.

I never heard of the pants being called Peggers.  I can understand I wasn't up on boys clothes when I was young, however, in the 80's I would have thought so.

Keith remembers having pants with the brand name Peggers, not that they had a special roll to the cuffs.

I reported for jury duty this morning.  Seven group numbers were told to report.

Several hundred of us jammed the jury assembly room.

Around 10 a.m., 35 names were called to report to a courtroom.

Around 10:30 a.m. another 35 (or so) names were called to report to a different courtroom.

We had been told four jury pools would be called before 5 p.m.

We waited patiently.  Around 11 a.m., a judge came in and told us we were excused...two trials they had hoped to start today had been delayed by two weeks.  We are free from jury duty for the next year.

Yippee-yay-ki-oh!

That was a sad story DR GEORGE.....what kind of taxes could they owe?  Weren't they a non-profit....or was it payroll taxes?

That's what I was wondering.  What the HELL?  At any rate, news of something going kaput like that is always sad, and I'm sorry to hear it.

I am going to check if our water has heated up yet.  I also need to clean the bathtub that I was told to run the water in first, the brown yucky water that initially came out.  A sink would have been easier to clean.  Boy, was it loud with all the air in the tanks.

DR Matthew, referring to the movie "Young Frahn-ken-steen", and putting it into the context of 1974, the casting of Peter Boyle was really brilliant as he had just been seen in two tough crime dramas, "Joe" and "Crazy Joe".  (In essence, he is sort-of brought back from the dead from those previous movies.)  I'm sure this is old news to others, but I recently put this together along with the edgy choice of Marty Feldman, as he was "near beer" Monty Python having worked with Cleese and Chapman, but had not broken through despite a short-lived comedy series.

Good luck with the show!

I just looked at their website (http://www.capitalplayhouse.com/) (it hasn't been updated since last year, but it's still on-line), and they say that they are (were) "the premier non-profit arts education and musical theater performance space in Olympia, Washington."

So they were non-profit...but they did pay a lot of people.

Fortunately this one was too inconvenient.  It is a great concern that too much water was lost with the leaks and then wasted repairing the problems.

My dishwasher is now running with HOT water.

I was a fan, but never met him, no.

Yes, I agree with Veronica Lake; she was great in "I Married a Witch".  The director, Rene Clair, also directed the best version of "Ten Little Indians" ("And Then There Were None").  To tie in with the Irish flavor theme of the other day, Barry Fitzgerald was excellent in that film.

Here's info
